00:00 Thanks to Super 7, after 10,000 years she's free.
00:04 Here's a look at the brand new Super 7 Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Rita Repulsa Vile Violet
00:10 Super 7 store exclusive.
00:13 After being sealed away for 10,000 years, Rita Repulsa has been
00:43 freed and sets her sights on destroying the nearest planet.
00:47 Unfortunately that means Earth.
00:48 She commands her allies and an unending army of putty patrollers to defeat the Power Rangers
00:52 by any means necessary.
00:54 Rita Repulsa looks through her repulsa scope to keep a close eye on her evil creations
00:58 when battling the Rangers.
01:00 She wastes no time using her magic wand to make her monsters grow into giant beasts,
01:04 laying waste to Angel Grove and the Power Rangers.
01:07 I better move pretty fast because I see there's an army of putties heading my way.
01:12 Before we get a closer look at the Super 7 store exclusive Rita Repulsa Vile Violet,
01:17 I'd like to first thank the folks over at Super 7 that did kindly provide the sample
01:21 we could have a look at here.
01:22 There are some considerable changes with this one versus the earlier Rita Repulsa that they
01:27 released before.
01:28 Sadly, though, I don't have the original Rita Repulsa.
01:31 It was on my to-do list of figures I did want to pick up from Super 7, having delved already
01:35 deeper into all the other figures that they have been producing.
01:39 One thing that has sort of overlooked my collection has been the Power Rangers stuff that will
01:43 be changing fast.
01:44 Though, let's grab the tape measure and see how tall the figure stands.
01:47 Rita Repulsa in this case, I guess you would count really the end horns of her hair.
01:52 That gives us a figure that's about seven and a quarter inches in height or the figure
01:55 is going to be about 18 centimeters tall.
01:58 The color scheme of Rita Repulsa here isn't so much the way that she's depicted in the
02:02 original series as that Rita Repulsa would have had more a brown dress versus the purple
02:07 one that we get here.
02:08 Though in 1995, there was a tour version of the Power Rangers in which Rita Repulsa was
02:13 dressed in purple, sort of as the way we see right now.
02:16 So in some ways you could say it's the tour version of Rita Repulsa, though I really think
02:21 honestly, "vile violet" sounds a little more sinister.
02:24 Of the accessories that the figure comes included with, most of which are actually the same
02:28 accessories that got packed with the original Rita before.
02:31 The only thing though it omitted between this one and the one released before was actually
02:36 her repulsa scope, her big telescope that she would be looking down on the planet Earth
02:40 to see how well her putties and giant monsters were doing.
02:43 Usually they weren't doing so well.
02:45 So that's one thing unfortunately that does get axed this time around, but pretty much
02:49 all the other accessories are still the ones that are packaged with the earlier Rita, with
02:54 again some color changes.
02:55 We're going to kind of go through each of these individually.
02:58 First of all, she comes included with her glass.
03:01 The glass itself this time around is filled with a red liquid.
03:04 I think the other one was maybe filled with a purple or even green liquid, but this time
03:08 around we actually get a red liquid.
03:09 The glass itself can be held in her hand, not really the closed fist that she has right
03:13 now, but she has suitable hands really for holding any one of the accessories like this
03:18 hand for example here, which we'll talk more about obviously of the detailing that they
03:22 applied to each of the fingers.
03:24 Each hand by the way does have their notable rings, silver and gold alternating you can
03:28 see on each one of Rita's fingers, as well as they've taken the time and luxury of painting
03:32 in the additional purple nails.
03:34 Really nice touches on their part.
03:36 But she does again come included with the wine glass.
03:39 It's sometimes a little harder to get this.
03:40 I don't know if that kind of looks a little bit like a martini glass.
03:42 Nothing I'm an expert at martinis, but we're going to go ahead and put that to the side.
03:46 The figure also comes included with a perfume bottle.
03:49 This perfume bottle notably is a little bit more violet in color, living I'm sure up to
03:53 the namesake of vile violet.
03:55 The original release was kind of more of a bluish color and I think the top was a little
03:58 bit more of a darker gold, which comes included with her perfume bottle as well.
04:03 Still she gets included this stone.
04:05 Now notably though, the stone here is colored in red, translucent red, as you can see my
04:09 hand waving behind it.
04:11 The original Rita stone came included with the other Rita was actually more green.
04:15 Still sticking with the color of green, the figure while not dropping it to start a fire
04:19 anywhere, she comes also with her candelabra and candle.
04:22 You can already see it's been dripping some wax.
04:25 The original candle would have had a gold candelabra and it would have also had the
04:29 candle being more in green rather than the red that we get here.
04:32 So it isn't simply just the case as you've already seen that they've just used and packed
04:36 the same accessories.
04:37 They have in a sense that they are using the same molds.
04:39 I keep dropping the candelabra.
04:41 They are using of course the same mold when it comes to these accessories, but they are
04:45 changing at least the colors.
04:46 So at least it feels from a mileage standpoint, even though the molds are being used again,
04:51 you're at least feeling as if you're getting something different with a different color
04:54 scheme.
04:55 As already mentioned, she comes in clear with a whole bunch of series of hands.
04:58 Now right now she has closed fist hands in her sockets.
05:00 Those aren't going to be doing much of anything.
05:02 So she comes with some gripping hands and you can see like how just adorned each of
05:07 the fingers are with individual rings and each finger ring, including a thumb has all
05:11 been very meticulously painted as well.
05:14 Again, you can see as well, both the fingers and thumb ring have all been nicely painted
05:18 in a lighter purple.
05:20 She comes in clear with those.
05:21 She comes in clear with a slightly more wider grip and then she also comes with a, again,
05:26 just a slightly more varied, a little more closer of a grip, ideally suited for holding
05:30 her staff.
05:31 Of course, one of the big notable things about Rita Repulsa is she wants to make her monsters
05:35 grow.
05:36 So she then just throw her staff down on the planet.
05:37 I don't even know, did they ever really have an episode where it would show how she
05:40 retrieved her staff?
05:41 Maybe they did.
05:42 Anyway, she does come with her staff.
05:44 The staff though in the original release of Rita Repulsa, while this is mostly still the
05:48 same, this would have been down below here, kind of more of a greenish color.
05:51 In this case, this time around, the stones have been replaced from an emerald green to
05:56 kind of a nice violet, a purple instead, as well as this little spike on the side.
06:00 I do like the touch again, the fact that they included a chain.
06:03 It's always nice to use a real working chain.
06:05 She does also have chains actually on her bracelets as well, which is unfortunately
06:09 one problem with the figure when it comes to swapping out her hands.
06:12 Speaking though of the hands again, like she has the right suitable hands, even though
06:15 I really was looking at this and I thought there would be no real way that she'd be
06:18 able to hold the staff properly, if you get about to, let me just get the hand in here,
06:22 if you get about to the mid section here, I mean the staff sits really loose.
06:27 If you have it actually far enough down to about here, then she actually holds the staff
06:31 fairly well, or also here as well.
06:33 You sort of have the weight and gravity sort of working in your favor.
06:36 She can also hold the staff that way too.
06:38 We'll kind of, I'll pop the hands out in a second here and you'll see exactly what
06:41 I mean.
06:42 So we'll put that to the side.
06:43 Let's pick the figure up right now.
06:45 Full disclosure, by the way, I did actually add a display stand.
06:47 I just happened to have dropped right now.
06:49 The figure's feet being small in profile, she doesn't have actually really enough real
06:53 estate space to really properly stand.
06:55 You kind of have to lean her a little bit further forward.
06:58 I do wish in a case like Rita Repulsa here could have come in clear with a display stand,
07:02 just for balancing purposes, just a lot easier than me having to worry about.
07:05 She does have also a wire frame.
07:07 I just dropped her head here.
07:08 She does have a wire frame on the bottom of a dress, but still that really doesn't help
07:12 to aid to get the figure to stand properly.
07:14 Because again, like if you look at the sizing of her feet, only matched I'm sure by the
07:17 Wicked Witch of the East, was that the evil sister?
07:21 Tiny little feet, tiny little feet.
07:23 It is very much difficult to get the figure to stand properly.
07:26 So I'm just using a black display stand for right now, just attaching onto the bottom
07:29 of it and that'd be more than enough to get the figure to stand.
07:32 Okay, so I did mention the fact that the figure does have swappable hands.
07:36 One thing you will want to be careful of though, see how she's got these bracelets.
07:39 The bracelets first of all have these little strips of plastic.
07:43 Just the way they're designed in the series as well.
07:45 The only thing about it though, is anytime you're twisting the hand, it's usually prone
07:48 to twisting these or bending these little strips of plastic.
07:52 And of course, when it comes to removing the hands, I find it's easy first not to really
07:56 hold on to the bracelet and just sort of wiggle the hand, because you're never really going
07:59 to be able to do it properly.
08:00 But I find rather instead, if you hold the bracelet and you hold the hand at the same
08:03 time and you'll wiggle them both off at the same time, just like so.
08:09 Then from there, just go ahead and put the figure down here for a second.
08:11 You want to make sure you remove the bracelet and you want to make sure of course, you're
08:14 not going to lose that.
08:15 Take the hand that you want to use.
08:17 Let's grab, what was the hand I was going to be using for the staff?
08:20 I think it was this hand here.
08:22 Let's just slide the post of the hand or at least the peg of the hand back in place and
08:26 then pop it from there back into the forearm.
08:30 I can't think that there would be an easier way to do this because they could have really
08:34 attached the bracelet onto the end of the forearm.
08:37 But considering for the fact that the bracelet would only have sticking out parts to it anyway,
08:41 I don't think there would be an easy way other than just having it as a separate piece.
08:45 The only thing about it though is that being a separate piece, I want to make sure I've
08:48 got the hand all the way in there.
08:49 By being a separate piece, there's always the worry of course that that bracelet is
08:53 going to fall off.
08:54 And that's the case actually on both sides.
08:55 She's got these real, real chained bracelets.
08:57 They look great, but just be careful though when you are changing out the hands that the
09:00 bracelet doesn't fall and you don't lose it somewhere on the floor.
09:03 Then of course from there, you can take yourself the staff.
09:06 The staff just attaches into her hand.
09:08 There we go.
09:09 And again, you can have it a little further down.
09:11 I mean just really having it resting against the top of it.
09:14 I guess it gives her about the same height as where she would have in the series.
09:17 Or again, you can also have a little bit higher up here as well.
09:20 So that's all the accessories that come included with Rita Repulsa, short of one extra thing.
09:24 And of course the other thing being, I want to just make sure I got the hand all the way
09:27 in there.
09:28 I don't want to have the bracelet falling off though in the course of this review.
09:31 Is it all the way on there?
09:33 I hope it's all the way on there.
09:34 The other thing that she comes included with as well is a smiling face.
09:38 And I don't know if it would be so much a smiling as she's proud of herself and all
09:42 her accomplishments, or it's more the face of defeat.
09:45 Like she just realized that the Power Rangers had defeated another one of her giant beasts.
09:49 The cost of producing those monsters, I got to think, do tally up after a while.
09:53 I don't know what she's really declaring for taxes, but I got to think she's spending a
09:56 lot on all those extra monsters only to have them being blown up by the Power Rangers.
10:01 So there's sort of this head sculpt.
10:03 And then there's the more mad looking Rita Repulsa, which is really again, no different
10:07 from the original Rita that we did get, or I didn't get the chance to get, but have been
10:11 at least released before from Super 7.
10:13 So again, you can either go that this route, or again, you can go with the crazier looking
10:17 Rita Repulsa.
10:18 I like this one a little bit more.
10:20 Head sculpt wise, they're very similar other than just the facial expression.
10:24 I'd be safe to assume that they probably did use the exact same mold for at least from
10:27 a headdress piece.
10:28 And they probably just then molded the faces and probably just pop those in place.
10:31 I don't know if I'm guessing it's probably a case where the face plate was something
10:35 that they molded separately, and then they popped in to an otherwise identical head sculpt.
10:40 But if you did want to see what it looked like, let's just go and pop the head off right
10:43 now.
10:44 Being careful, of course, of her little collar piece here.
10:46 It's pretty spiky, but we're going to go ahead and pop the head back in place.
10:50 And again, like there's sort of this head sculpt, which again, I'm torn as to think
10:54 whether that's just happy Rita, or it's disappointed Rita.
10:59 Either way though, the colors are really nicely handled here.
11:01 The headdress piece or the hair that she would have had on the original release would have
11:04 been more of a darker gray, and then like sort of the wrappings here instead of being
11:07 purple would have been a dark brown to sort of match the outfit of colors that she had.
11:11 The original outfit would have been again, brown, would have had again, the gold trim.
11:15 This has been very nicely and very colorfully swapped out for a very vibrant purple and
11:20 equally vibrant red trim that she has along the bottom here as well.
11:24 This piece, sort of her bra piece, is actually a separate plastic piece that they put over
11:29 top of her regular costume.
11:31 So while this is being a material, this is actually a plastic that they sort of put over
11:34 top.
11:35 It doesn't look like it removes, I mean, obviously they would have probably had to
11:37 take the body and sort of put it together around this.
11:41 And of course, she's got then the back skirting there.
11:43 This was kind of really wondered what this was sort of like a feathering skirting that
11:47 she had on the back of her dress.
11:48 But all in all, it's a really nice looking figure.
11:51 It's more compelling me for me now to even go back and now try to track down the original
11:55 Rita Repulsa, seeing how well they really have handled this version of Rita, the vile
11:59 violet version.
12:01 For the articulation on Rita Repulsa, going back to her head sculpt, it is on a ball joint
12:04 after all.
12:05 So it does rotate back and forth, up and down.
12:07 But I find though, it's always a hard thing to get the head properly onto the ball joint.
12:11 Whenever I think I've got it all the way on there, any bit time, any time that I seem
12:15 to be moving the head around, it seems to pop back out of place.
12:18 I'm gonna have to make sure I get that properly in place though.
12:20 Head does move up or back, does move also again forward.
12:25 The upper torso is on a ball joint.
12:26 The only thing about it though, is obviously like the back of this is all hard plastic.
12:30 So when you are rotating the body, you always sort of feel like this is, well, it's obviously
12:33 gonna be getting in the way of things.
12:35 Arms go forward, the arms go back.
12:37 They also move out also as well.
12:38 She has a single hinge, it seems only in the elbow and the hands also rotate back and forth.
12:43 Just though be careful.
12:44 These actual pieces of plastic sticking out.
12:47 As for the legs, I'm just gonna lift up the skirt just enough to show you that her legs
12:51 do have a ball joint.
12:52 Sorry, sorry.
12:54 Legs go forward, legs go back.
12:56 There is a mild swivel at the top of the thigh.
12:58 People only possessing a single hinge in the knee, but at least the lower leg rotates back
13:01 and forth.
13:02 And there's also a hinge up and down this way as well as back and forth this way as
13:06 well.
13:07 All in all, a really nice looking Rita Repulsa.
13:09 If I had the original, I feel like it would be more compelled to be, like if I had the
13:13 choice, I think I would still wanna get the original Rita Repulsa simply just because
13:17 again, like that's the way that she looks in the cartoon series.
13:19 But I gotta say though, like the purple works really well for this particular mold.
13:23 Even making me more interested now to go and try to track down that original Rita Repulsa
13:28 as well as the rest of the Power Ranger Ultimate figures that Super 7 have done so far.
13:32 The only thing about this figure, not only is that color swap and not only the costume
13:35 that she wears, but also the accessories.
13:37 But sadly, unfortunately, one thing gets lost in here and it's not just a big giant monster
13:41 that gets defeated once again by the Power Rangers, but she also loses her rotoscope
13:45 or her repulsive scope, that big telescope that she has.
13:49 That's also something that was packaged with the original figure that doesn't unfortunately
13:53 get repeated again with the Rita Repulsa vile violet figure that we looked at now.
13:57 Wow, Rita Repulsa is a few moments away from making her monster grow.
14:02 It's never gonna work, Rita Repulsa.
14:03 You're only just gonna lose the staff.
14:05 Does she just have really like a storage locker that just has multiple staffs though?
14:08 She never really has to worry about retrieving them.
14:10 They, you know, they just, I, oh, I lost another one.
14:12 I'm gonna have to go to the storage cabin and get another.
14:15 And she's just got like rows upon rows of the same staff.
14:18 Maybe there was an episode where it showed how she retrieved the staff, but more times
14:21 than not.
14:22 She usually was just throwing it down to the planet.
14:24 It was sort of just, of course, increasing the size of the monsters and the monsters
14:28 were always getting defeated by the hands of the Power Rangers.
14:30 I really liked the color scheme of this one, though not necessarily show accurate.
14:35 If you though already had the Rita Repulsa, which I'm still looking to get myself, I think
14:39 this is a really nice addition.
14:41 It's using though all of the same accessories as the original Rita before, but at least
14:45 it changed the color scheme.
14:46 So it doesn't feel like, oh, we already had the candelabra.
14:48 Oh, we already had the stones.
14:50 We already, we already had the perfume bottle.
14:53 You did, but you didn't have it in the color scheme that gets presented with this figure
14:56 release.
14:57 Again, this one though is a super seven store exclusive.
