Kansas Jayhawks quarterback Jason Bean talks about the difference in fan support since his first season and the preparation that allowed the team to upset the Oklahoma Sooners.
Transcript
00:00 Me and Coach Lee talked about it before the game,
00:03 just how two short years ago we were in here in an empty stadium.
00:06 And we were begging people to come to our games.
00:08 And now we're selling out multiple times in the season.
00:11 Just shows how far this program has come and how much the fans believe in us.
00:15 >> Lance was talking about earlier how he's pulling for
00:18 you just cuz you keep fighting.
00:20 Is that how you would describe yourself as a fighter?
00:22 >> Yeah, I'm definitely a fighter.
00:25 I feel like I'm fighting for this team and everybody around me.
00:30 It's not necessarily for me.
00:31 It's just I wanna win so this team wins and so
00:34 everybody's excited for themselves.
00:36 Just to believe in themselves is everything.
00:39 I want people to believe in themselves for them and not for me.
00:42 >> Jason, third year in a row that you've played against Oklahoma and
00:48 all of those games have been close.
00:50 What is it about the way that you guys have played Oklahoma or
00:52 what it is about your preparation that helps you guys to be able to compete with them?
00:56 >> Yeah, I think it is our preparation.
00:58 Just the way that we go about the week.
01:00 Knowing that we have to be locked in at each and every play is, I think,
01:03 the main thing for us.
01:04 And I think that's what we try to focus on the past two weeks and we execute it.
01:09 >> Seems like until the second half it didn't really seem like you were
01:13 necessarily either getting called on to run a lot or looking to run a lot.
01:16 What was it that changed in the second half that really had you kind of breaking
01:19 out and breaking out those big runs?
01:21 >> Yeah, that's what the defense started to do.
01:23 They tried to game plan for other things and that kind of opened up more things.
01:27 So just the defense's reaction to what we were doing.
01:30 >> Then the lightning delay, how did that affect the mood around the team?
01:35 Obviously with Oklahoma kind of making a run at that point to try to come back and
01:38 tie the game.
01:40 How did you guys stay up and motivated?
01:42 >> Well, I think just our coaches in the locker room,
01:44 just the way that they were keeping us up, keeping us moving in the locker room,
01:47 making sure that we were staying ready.
01:49 Mentally, talking about the game plan still.
01:51 I think that was the biggest thing for us and just to be inside and
01:55 get a little bit more.
01:56 That was a big thing.
01:57 >> Okay.
01:59 >> You good?
