Andy Mitts and Kyle Davis discuss the ridiculous performance from the Kansas Jayhawks in their season opener and what it might tell us about how they'll play this season.

00:00 I knew that Hunter Dickinson was going to be great.
00:02 I did not realize that he was going to be our three point sharp shooter.
00:06 He was three of three from beyond the arc in this game.
00:09 You could tell that he was feeling it.
00:12 As good as he was, he actually did not even lead the team in scoring.
00:15 That was Kevin McCuller with 22 points.
00:18 I saw a ton of people that were upset that DeJuan Harris did not shoot the ball at all.
00:24 But let me tell you, when the rest of your team is performing that well, do you really
00:29 want a guy like DeJuan Harris shooting the ball?
00:32 If your option is a DeJuan Harris three from outside or a lob into Hunter Dickinson so
00:38 he can slam it, which one would you take?
00:41 I would take that lob every single time.
00:43 Yeah, and he's ten assists to two turnovers is a great way for Juan to start.
00:50 And also, he took to Instagram.
00:52 I don't know if you saw it.
00:53 But he was basically the Instagram equivalent of quote tweeting and was like, I'll shoot
00:59 what I need to shoot.
01:01 And basically saying, hey, they didn't need me to shoot because we were so dominant last
01:05 night.
01:06 So yeah, you're right.
01:07 He looked perfectly in his element just running the show, dishing, throwing lobs.
01:12 But even him, it was not even just him.
01:16 Obviously we know Hunter Dickinson has proven he is a good passer for a big man.
01:20 I think we've seen the relationship between him and KJ Adams already.
01:24 But like Kevin McCullough's passing looks a lot better.
01:28 Even the way Nick Timberlake's rotating the ball around the perimeter.
01:32 Johnny Furfey's always seems to be, we'll talk about him, I'm sure it seems to be in
01:35 the right place at the right time.
01:37 This group though just seemed like they're already gelling really well.
01:42 And I know it's just the first game, and it helps when shots go in.
01:45 But I think this is, it's one of those things too where the exhibition games, it's tough
01:51 to remember.
01:52 It's like, yeah, they had Puerto Rico, but Arterio Morris was playing 25 minutes a game
01:56 in there.
01:57 And you have to, it's just a different dynamic when you're throwing new guys at the two and
02:01 trying to figure things out.
02:02 And I think this one went a long way to getting a confidence boost, not only seeing the ball
02:07 go in, but also again, I think that the passing of this team, being able to run in transition,
02:12 it's one of the reasons why you knew it could be scary is because NC Central historically
02:16 has turned the ball over quite a bit.
02:18 And you knew that that's where Kansas wanted to be, long rebounds or turnovers, they want
02:22 to run.
02:23 And that's where you've seen it's like, it's a very unselfish team.
02:26 And I think maybe in the exhibition games, they were unselfish to a fault.
02:30 And now this was the, but this was the, you know, very high on the good end of the spectrum
02:37 of what happens there.
02:38 And you just saw so many guys get involved.
02:40 And again, the assist numbers, you know, you have six or sorry, four players who have at
02:45 least five or more assists in the game.
02:47 That's pretty incredible.
02:50 You have nine players who recorded an assist just overall, and the passing and you know,
02:55 the shooting is not going to like that's, that's going to regress to a mean, they're
02:59 not going to shoot 79% from before, and they're not going to shoot 56% from three, that's
03:05 for sure.
03:06 Although it's interesting to 79% from the two point range was number one in the country
03:12 last night, but the passing and the spacing and just the way that already guys are starting
03:18 to come into their roles, I think, and that comes into Harris knowing his role in executing
03:22 it better than anybody, arguably, I think that's what gives you hope for the consistency
03:27 of this team.
03:28 And that even if some of those shots don't fall, they just create so many good open looks
03:32 for themselves.
03:33 Yeah, I mean, and you know, this is a team like, like you said, the assists are the things
03:38 that I think makes me super optimistic for how well this team can maintain this level
03:44 of play.
03:45 Obviously not like you said, not 79% from two and you know, 57% from three, like those
03:51 are obviously difficult to maintain, or if not impossible to maintain throughout the
03:55 entire season.
03:56 But what we do know is that this is a team that is able to pass has that kind of chemistry
04:02 that you need.
04:03 And I was, I was more impressed by the interior passing from Hunter Dickinson and KJ Adams
04:08 than I was from the passing from DeJuan Harris.
04:09 And that's saying something because he's damn impressive.
04:12 You know, DeJuan Harris is probably the best passer in all of college basketball.
04:16 But when you have interior passing as well as they have as well, that can have a much
04:22 bigger impact on a game than a point guard who is, you know, dishing the ball out where
