00:00 Looking at this game, looking at everything that you've seen,
00:02 how do you expect this game to go?
00:04 Who do you got winning?
00:06 - So, yeah, man.
00:08 In this -- I'm going to do the same thing I did in my pod.
00:10 In this, Texas Tech is 22-2 against Kansas in our history.
00:15 22-2, all right?
00:18 We usually, when Texas Tech sees Kansas,
00:20 we say, "Easy dub," right?
00:23 This is how it's always been.
00:24 It's how it's always going to be.
00:26 We are always going to be kicking Kansas' butt,
00:29 starting again next year, not this year.
00:31 I don't see it. I don't see it.
00:33 I just -- This is the first time --
00:37 'Cause even the one time since I've been a Tech fan
00:39 where Kansas won in 2019,
00:41 that was a game that really, for Tech fans,
00:44 we realized, "Oh, Matt Wells is not the guy."
00:46 It was a game that felt like we kind of gave away.
00:50 And it was still a game that I think if that game
00:52 was played 10 times, we would win eight of it.
00:54 However, we still lost. It didn't matter.
00:56 This is the first time I can think of,
00:58 where I'm looking at this game and I'm saying,
01:00 "We are not the better team."
01:02 Texas Tech versus Kansas.
01:03 Texas Tech is not the better team in almost every way, right?
01:08 Like, you just are flat out the better team.
01:12 In a neutral side game, I would think you're the better team.
01:14 I think the only -- You know, my co-host,
01:16 Jeremy Gillen, of the "Tortillas and Tex" podcast,
01:18 he said, "If this was a game with every --
01:21 If this was a game that was at home
01:24 and you did have your third-string quarterback in instead,
01:28 and you did have all these other things happening to you instead,
01:31 then maybe I would feel a little bit better about this."
01:33 But this is a game where it really --
01:34 You know, it does not feel good for Texas Tech in this,
01:37 the fact that we are playing a team
01:39 that is just flat out better,
01:40 and we're playing it in Lawrence.
01:42 Texas Tech is not good on the road.
01:43 We're just not.
01:44 And Joey McGuire's almost two years now
01:47 that he's been coaching Texas Tech football,
01:49 we have won two road games, at Iowa State
01:52 in what was the world's ugliest football game last year,
01:55 and then at Baylor this year because Baylor's awful
01:57 and had only five people show up to the game.
02:00 Like, that's it.
02:01 Those are the only two road games we've had.
02:03 Not only that, we have yet to beat a team
02:04 outside of the state of Texas.
02:06 We lost to BYU, lost to Kansas State, lost to Wyoming, right?
02:11 We are yet to beat a team outside of the state of Texas.
02:14 I think that's going to continue.
02:15 I just -- I don't see a situation where we win.
02:17 I do -- Let me rephrase this.
02:18 I won't say I don't see a situation where we win.
02:20 The way I see we can win this game is if Kansas --
02:25 if 18- to 23-year-olds are letting everything else
02:29 affect them outside of the game, right,
02:32 which is the fact that Kansas State plays next week.
02:34 And if we just -- if we went out,
02:36 we're likely going to the Big 12 Championship game, right?
02:39 And we just got to beat Kansas next week.
02:41 Mind you, I'm saying not beat Texas Tech.
02:43 We got to beat Kansas State next week.
02:45 That's all they're thinking.
02:46 They're thinking, "Oh, well, there was the report
02:48 that Lance Leipold interviewed with Michigan State,
02:50 and, oh, there are these rumors about Jalen Daniels,
02:52 and, oh, this then."
02:54 If they let everything else cloud their mind but the game,
02:59 then Texas Tech has a shot.
03:00 And the fact that I do think that Texas Tech --
03:02 there is something to be said that we're going to basically
03:05 be playing this game nine days
03:07 after the last time we played against TCU.
03:10 That is going to help also.
03:12 So I'm not going to say that we don't have a chance.
03:13 We have a chance because of all those things,
03:16 but I do think Kansas is just flat out the better team
03:20 and playing at home.
03:21 And so, therefore, I got Kansas winning this.
03:23 I do think it is going to be somewhat of a close game
03:26 because of everything I mentioned,
03:27 as far as all the outside noise.
03:28 I do think we can punch you in the mouth early on.
03:31 But I think that Kansas will have the lead
03:33 going into the fourth quarter,
03:35 and you will have a drive that will put the game away.
03:37 Kansas wins 34-24.
03:39 -This feels like it's completely the opposite,
03:41 whereas normally it would be like,
03:42 you know, "I could see Kansas winning this game,
03:44 but everything has to go right for them."
03:46 This is exactly the opposite.
03:47 It's like, "I could see Kansas losing this game,
03:49 but everything has to go wrong for them,
03:51 for the Jayhawks to not get out of here with this victory."
03:54 You know, Kansas' defense --
03:56 And, like, I think even, you know,
03:59 if this was beginning of the season,
04:01 you know, say the first five or six games,
04:02 like, before the bye,
04:04 I would be worried about Kansas
04:06 getting punched in the mouth early
04:07 and then having to come back.
04:08 And not that they couldn't come back,
04:10 but, you know, they were a team that started really slow,
04:13 had to make big comebacks,
04:14 and then the question was always just,
04:16 "Can they push their advantage enough?"
04:18 I mean, even against BYU,
04:19 they were down at the half by a field goal, right?
04:23 But then they came out in the second half
04:24 and just completely demolished them at home.
04:27 This is not what they've done, though.
04:29 Like, you look against Oklahoma, you look against Iowa State,
04:32 you even look against Oklahoma State to a degree.
04:36 They got off to pretty fast starts
04:37 in all three of those games.
04:39 They seem to have figured out what it is
04:41 that keeps them from performing well
04:44 at the beginning of a game.
04:45 And so I don't know that I'm convinced
04:47 that Texas Tech could come and punch them in the mouth
04:48 and build up a lead pretty early.
04:50 Like, I think this could potentially be a back and forth.
04:52 I think Texas Tech can hold their own for a while,
04:54 but there's nothing going on
04:56 that should be a big enough distraction
04:59 to keep them from winning this game
05:00 and winning this game handily.
05:01 But these two teams play weird games.
05:04 You know, we've seen that all the time,
05:06 that they play weird games.
05:08 There's only one team, I think,
05:09 that I've seen weirder games with,
05:10 and that's Kansas playing TCU.
05:12 So I fully expect this game to be a lot closer
05:17 than I'm prepared for.
05:18 I'm gonna be melting down probably at some point
05:21 on the live blog that we have,
05:23 just be like, "Why are we not winning this game by 21 yet?"
05:26 You know, there's gonna be, I think, enough hiccups here
05:30 that it's going to be interesting.
05:31 I would be glad to be wrong and, you know,
05:33 Kansas come out and build a 28-nothing lead at the half
05:36 and then just cruise to a victory,
05:37 but I just don't see it happening.
05:39 I'm gonna go 31-21.
