00:00The Defense Department has doubts about China's decision to release a phone recording
00:06regarding the consent of a Philippine military official for a new model for the Ayungin Show.
00:12The Philippine Navy said that the AFP did not enter into any agreement regarding the West Philippine Sea.
00:19Chino Gaston got it right.
00:21On the occasion of the new agreement between the Philippines and China for the Ayungin Show in the West Philippine Sea,
00:31China has a place.
00:33According to the Manila Bulletin,
00:35a high-ranking official of the Chinese Embassy in Manila said
00:39that they will release a recording of the conversation on the phone of a Chinese diplomat
00:45and a Filipino official of the military known as AFP Westcom Chief.
00:49They agreed on a new model for the management of the news in the West Philippine Sea.
00:55However, Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. has doubts about this.
00:59There is an alleged recording in a court of the Armed Forces of the Philippines,
01:07the authenticity of which I doubt,
01:10given the propensity of the Chinese government to engage in malign information activities.
01:22Teodoro added that if it is true that such a conversation took place, China has a place.
01:29If this statement is true from the Chinese Embassy
01:35that they recorded anyone in the Philippines,
01:40they admitted that they violated the law of the Republic of the Philippines,
01:47particularly the Anti-Wiretapping Law.
01:50I should know who is responsible for this and remove them from the Republic of the Philippines.
01:57The Chinese Embassy has yet to make a statement on the statement of Teodoro.
02:01The Philippine Navy also denied that the AFP entered into any agreement with China regarding the West Philippine Sea.
02:07That is a dead story. We will not dignify reports like that.
02:11Again, it's a zombie story. Let's bring it back to where it rightfully belongs, to the grave.
02:17Anybody could say anything, these stories will be rehashed.
02:21We have to understand that today's warfare is a battle of narratives.
02:25It's a battle of shaping the perception of the people.
02:28The Department of Foreign Affairs recognizes the importance of countering China's disinformation operation,
02:35not only here but also in the international community.
02:39Counter disinformation with facts and strategic communication.
02:42To reinforce its unlawful and expansive claims in the South China Sea,
02:46China actively pursues a disinformation campaign, which is happening now at this very time,
02:54using official government channels, state-sponsored media, and possibly troll forums
03:01to peddle several falsehoods and misrepresent facts on the issue.
03:06It is said that the country is still talking to China,
03:10just like the DFA predicted, about the new bilateral talks here in Manila.
03:14But until now, China has not responded to the invitation.
03:19For GMA Integrated News, Chino Gaston Acatuto, 24 Hours.
