00:00He is pushing, and so is 30, Eugene O'Brien, and he's off!
00:06The marshals are trying to find out, help him out of the car.
00:10But meantime, Kellen, Randy Siege and Simone are still battling,
00:15and Simone is attacking at the complex, and bang!
00:20Off goes Randy Siege.
00:22Now, here is something that Keith prepared earlier.
00:25It's a replay of that, too. He's hit by the Renault,
00:28he goes off, exiting the complex out of the grass
00:31at a tremendous speed, commandingly, but enough,
00:34and there's contact!
00:36Toyota hits Vauxhall, it's Ian Carney's hit,
00:39Nigel Smith's Vauxhall.
00:42It's a racing car. I finished after two hours, 25.
00:48Simone tries to protect D'Arquini, but Kellen is through already,
00:52and Randy Siege is following through from row three.
00:56And there's contact! Simone is off! Bang! Bang!
01:00And he's trying to get back, and incredibly,
01:02Embraer Bonnet is avoiding him.
01:04Now, we're with Simone, and there's somebody going off down there,
01:07Adam Clarke, he's tackling Jeff Allum in front,
01:10but we're back again with Simone, and it's his company.
01:13He's hit a Toyota. It's Tim Sutton's car.
01:16Now, he tries to tuck in behind D'Arquini's car,
01:20but Kellen is already there.
01:22Through goes the Vauxhall, Simone looks to his right,
01:25Randy Siege is there, hits him, into the anchor, once, twice.
01:32There was a gap at the end, so I got halfway along,
01:34and he just came across, and I didn't know where to go,
01:37he just spun across my bow, and that was it.
01:43It's a collision course, there's the collision, onto the grass,
01:48no grip, in at the front, in at the back.
01:52He rotates, everybody avoids him, that is amazing.
01:55Alan Maynew goes through, and there's a spin-up!
01:59Whoa! It's Jeff Steele's BMW.
02:02It's his second race in the championship.
02:05Now, we're with Bailey, he's behind Jan Lammers Volvo.
02:09Whoa! Oh!
02:11And Julian was angry, up to the bomb hole,
02:15and there's a spin-up, that's David Leslie,
02:18and he's been hit by Richard Rydell's Volvo.
02:21With Rydell, let's see what happens.
02:24Nearly 140 miles an hour, Leslie turns in, and thump!
02:29Richard Rydell hits him, that looks a bit optimistic to me.
02:32Especially with Joe Vinkelhock.
02:36Vinkelhock receiving the full attention of Jan Lammers Volvo,
02:40Lammers blames his brakes, but Vinkelhock is out of the race.
02:46Down the rabbit straight with Cleland, 140 miles an hour,
02:49and he's been hit! He's been hit by Harvey!
02:52Oh, my goodness, off he goes! Spin, spin, spin!
02:55The Vauxhall circulates, Harvey moves ahead.
02:58I had a bad incident with John, he moved across on me on the straight,
03:02and obviously he lost out.
03:04Tim's in the pits, over the barriers.
03:07There was yet more grief to come
03:09with Rydell T-boning Tim Sugden's Works Toyota.
03:13And ironically, both cars coming to rest alongside the Vinkelhock BMW,
03:17an earlier Volvo victim.
03:20Two times the winner in the Touring Car Championship,
03:23but seemingly not today.
03:25Look at Sugden, spoiler, as they go into...
03:27Oh, wow! That is... That is Simone!
03:30Straight into the armco.
03:32That was a 100-mile-an-hour crash,
03:35and it looks to me as though the little Italian is perfectly OK.
03:39And here's how Keith O'Doar saw it from behind.
03:42He goes into Copse, Simone lights up his tyres,
03:46goes onto the grass, onto the kerb.
03:49He's lost the Alfa Romeo altogether,
03:51straight backwards into the armco,
03:53and the tyres, bounces off them,
03:55comes to a standstill, and miraculously, he's OK.
03:58Mazda on the right, Vauxhall in the middle.
04:00They're absolutely together, side by side.
04:03They're very close, in fact, they touch! Bang, bang!
04:07And that is Neil, and that is a very big one indeed.
04:10Roll, roll, roll again, all the way down the straight.
04:14The accident just beyond Copse that left wreckage all over the track.
04:18Chris Goodwin, the man sandwiched between the two Mazdas
04:21of Leslie on the left and Matt Neil on the right.
04:24A lot of contact until that final touch launches Neil into a series of rolls.
04:29Six times the Mazda rolls in all,
04:31but the driver, well strapped in, well protected, survives shaken.
04:35But unscathed.
04:36And it was some of the resulting debris
04:38that was collected by Paul Radicec,
04:40which led to his subsequent puncture.
04:44But he's been hit by Menuh in the Renault,
04:47and Zonk, straight into the Alfa Romeo, goes Odors-Nissan.
04:51The Italian getting a gentle nudge from Alain Menuh,
04:54but the Renault itself getting pushed from a whole line of contact behind.
04:59And the final impact from Keith Odors-Nissan
05:03ends Tarquini's race for good.
05:07It looked gentle enough, but we'll see it from another angle in a moment.
05:10But this is why Winkelhock was heading to the pits.
05:12Tarquini's accident is two corners further on,
05:15but Winkelhock is involved, in his own misunderstanding,
05:18with James Thompson's Peugeot.
05:21You know, you just pretend right.
05:22You know, the cars are on the limit.
05:24You can't move, so I hit him. Teabag him.
05:28The last viewpoint of all comes from Tarquini himself,
05:31who had little idea of the chain reaction behind,
05:34that was about to cost him the chance of making it six wins out of six.
05:42And here's a replay.
05:43Now, we're in Winkelhock's car.
05:45That's Sugden on the left. Bang!
05:47Well, whose fault was it?
05:49Depends who you ask.
05:50They'll all say it was the other chap's.
05:52He can almost throw a blanket over them.
05:54Now, we're with Menuh.
05:55Oh, he's got a crisis!
05:57Look! Spin!
05:59Wow!
06:00180 degrees, 360 degrees,
06:02and he regains just behind Raus, who must have hit him.
06:06Now, let's see what happened.
06:07This is a replay.
06:08At the top of your picture,
06:10oh, Allum is hit by one of the Nissans.
06:13Van der Poel spins into the tarball,
06:16and that's the end of the race.
06:17This is the last meeting for the BMWs
06:19before their weight penalty is reduced.
06:22And what's hit?
06:23Radicic.
06:24Oh, and off goes the four.
06:26Third place gone.
06:28There's third, fourth, fifth.
06:30Lammers in fourth position.
06:31Oh!
06:32And a bang!
06:33That's O'Dor,
06:34and he's hit Chris Goodwin's Cavalier.
06:36Goodwin was leading the total cup.
06:41And there's contact!
06:42Cleland hits Soper.
06:43Spin! Spin!
06:44Double spin!
06:45Through the gap go Cleland and Menuh.
06:48Lammers is stuck on the left.
06:49Soper is rally crossing.
06:51Bang!
06:52Cleland hits Soper.
06:54Soper most definitely hits Lammers.
06:57They both spin.
06:58Cleland goes through the gap,
07:00followed by Menuh.
07:02Now, let's look then from Cleland's point of view.
07:04That is Soper ahead.
07:05Biff, he hits the BMW.
07:07The BMW hits the Volvo.
07:09They both spin.
07:10Thank you very much.
07:11And now we're in Bailey's Toyota.
07:13Third place, Eton Cox.
07:14Bang!
07:15Oh, that's Menuh's Renault on the left.
07:18And they're all going on.
07:20Well, this is absolute carnage at Cox.
07:23It's right out of the way of something.
07:25And I'd already decided to sort of use
07:27part of the pit lane exit, the curbing at Cox,
07:30to try to avoid whatever was ever going to happen.
07:32It was going to always happen at that corner.
07:34But I just went into the sand trap a little bit.
07:37There were so many cars involved,
07:39the track was just locked up, so there was nowhere to go.
07:41I managed to get back out again.
07:42I've only got light body damage, really,
07:44so we're all ready to go again.
07:46Here's one more reminder of how the damage was done.
07:54Even now, there were incidents, as Andy Rouse discovered,
07:58when Jan Lammers tried to force the Volvo Estate
08:01inside the Ford Mondeo.
08:03The right-hander.
08:04This is really close.
08:06Through the chicane.
08:08And oh!
08:09Oh!
08:10Off!
08:11It's Tarquini.
08:12What happened?
08:14Gabriele Tarquini in the Alfa Romeo.
08:17Thank heavens he's safe out of the car,
08:19rushing to safety.
08:21And the crowd have shown their appreciation
08:23that he's all right.
08:34And it also showed the punishment that's handed out
08:36to the driver's neck muscles on impact
08:38as the Alfa rolls over.
08:40This was amateur footage that better illustrates
08:42Harvey's role in the incident.
08:46The time between the races didn't permit a final decision.
08:50Dodge to the right.
08:51And he's through.
08:53But they touch.
08:54O'Brien slides off.
08:55Is he going to stop?
08:57He's keeping it going.
08:58Keeping it going on the grass.
09:01Julian Bailey's easy.
09:02Clear.
09:03Hoy is going through.
09:05Oh, he's pushing his way through.
09:07Menuh runs wide.
09:08Sober goes through.
09:09He's hit the Renault.
09:11But he's through.
09:12He's in the lead.
09:13That's Menuh ahead.
09:15Watch him.
09:16Run wide.
09:17He runs wide.
09:18Sober dives in.
09:20Clips the Renault on the exit.
09:23Oh, somebody's lost it.
09:25That's Chris Goodwin.
09:26Off goes O'Brien.
09:27Off goes Nigel Smith.
09:28There he is in the Vauxhall.
09:30This is a replay from lap one of Cascades.
09:33Nigel Albon on the left.
09:35Now Goodwin spins.
09:37There he is.
09:38Smith goes off onto the grass.
09:42John Clelland had to make all the effort to move his car as quickly as possible.
09:46And then he is hit here in this second.
09:49Behind Bailey and John Clelland.
09:51Now there you see Bailey hits the Vauxhall.
09:54And Rydel hits Bailey.
09:56And now we're with Roberto Ravania.
09:58And that's Patrick Watts, losing the Peugeot.
10:01He's lost the Peugeot.
10:03It's a bit wide.
10:04I'm not blaming him until I see you on the video.
10:08I mean, I'm not blaming him until I see your film.
10:12But he spun me around, and then I was attacked by all directions.
10:17It's one of those things that sometimes happens.
10:19For whatever reason, I had nowhere to go when I was first lapping.
10:27We've Paul Radice now,
10:29and he's got to make places to earn points against Tarquini.
10:32That's Jeff Allum ahead in the box hall, and he's been hit!
10:35He's been hit, and he's off at terrific speed.
10:38Onto the grass, into the armco,
10:40across the track, onto the outside of the track.
10:43That was a very lucky one indeed.
10:45Look at his front wheel.
10:48Oh, dear. OK, did you take your picture, mate?
10:53Jeff Allum is not very happy, I don't think.
10:55Oh, dear me, he is not. Look at that.
10:58OK, he's going to go through on the inside here.
11:01Oh, no, he's not!
11:02Off he goes, both of them off.
11:04Both of them off.
11:05Kay and Goodwin have taken each other out.
11:09He's going to go through on the inside or try to take Goodwin.
11:14He locks up, he realises he's not going to do it.
11:17Hits the box hall.
11:19They both go off.
11:23Then he closes the door, fails to get through.
11:26Poor spinner! It's James Kay.
11:29That's the man who's leading the Primateers Championship.
11:34Up towards Abbey.
11:36And bang! Look at that!
11:38Look at that!
11:40Well, now, number 26 is Hamish Irvine,
11:43and behind him is Nigel Albarn.
11:46Any contact there can have violent consequences.
11:51And Brian shaken, but unhurt.
11:58Which ended during his second lap
12:00in the gravel bed outside the old hairpin.
12:03This uncharacteristic error from the new champion.
12:06Turning for Goddard.
12:09Collision! Collision!
12:11Browse is off. Browse is off.
12:15Into the S's.
12:17And up! Up! Up!
12:19Almost over on two wheels.
12:21Two-wheeled Alfa Romeo.
12:25On the kerb. Almost over.
12:28Not quite.
