00:00All right, back live in New York, and the New York Giants are about ready to go in on
00:08New Orleans.
00:09The Giants lead that game 10-7, and if they can kick the extra point, well, they'd be
00:14up by seven more.
00:15Now what happened was that the Giants set up to kick a field goal, and off of the formation,
00:22they called a fake, and they hit the first down pass to the one-yard line.
00:27So now, the Giants are coming up with a first and goal, leading 10-7.
00:32You are watching this action live from the Superdome, and a great shot of that offensive
00:37huddle of the Giants, who appear to be like the Chicago Bears of a year ago, the surprise
00:42team, stalking the playoffs.
00:44And Pasarczyk will bring them in after the officials get everything squared away down
00:48there.
00:51St. Louis leading Philadelphia, 13-10 in the third.
00:55San Francisco trailing Washington and Billy Kilmer, 21-13.
01:01That game is in the third.
01:02Cleveland routing Buffalo, 34-7.
01:06That's in the third.
01:07Again, you're watching live out of New Orleans.
01:09Cincinnati shutting out Houston by 14 points, 14-0.
01:15So the Bengals may win for the first time.
01:18Pittsburgh leading Kansas City by 3 in the third, 20-17.
01:23That's the time left in the half in New Orleans, upper right-hand corner.
01:26New England, 48, the Jets, 7.
01:29Steve Grogan threw for 281 yards in the first half of that game.
01:35And of course, the contest you're watching, 21-10, Detroit leading Chicago.
01:41They straightened up the clock.
01:42That's why the delay there.
01:43They go to 21 seconds.
01:45Here's Pisarczyk.
01:48Zanka and Taylor are his running backs.
01:51Zanka, straight ahead for the touchdown.
01:55And the New York Giants have got seven more.
01:57And Jane, what have you got for a change of pace right now for us?
01:59Well, have you ever wondered what pro football players do with their off time?
02:03Well, some of them watch soap operas on TV.
02:06And I talked to one of the roughest, toughest players in the NFL who would rather miss a
02:10paycheck than an episode of his favorite show.
02:15I'm interested in only one detail.
02:17Tell him, Laura.
02:18I will bet, just by coincidence, of course, that Jill is due back on the job today, too.
02:25Do you believe this guy?
02:31While the other players are resting and recuperating after a tough morning's workout, Harry Carson,
02:36the meaner than mean middle linebacker of the Giants, rushes off the field into the
02:41players' lounge to watch his favorite soap opera.
02:44Will Leslie have Lance's baby?
02:46Who will Snapper choose, the lady doctor or his wife?
02:50And when will Jill get her hooks into Mr. Brooks?
02:53To tell us, here's Harry Carson.
02:56All right.
02:58Casey fell in love with Snapper.
03:01And Snapper and Casey are, you know, they were uptight with each other.
03:07Then Chris came back home.
03:10Now Snapper has two women.
03:12He doesn't know what to do.
03:14So he's playing the ropes.
03:15You know, he has both of them on strings.
03:17See, Jane, I told you it was simple.
03:20OK.
03:21I give up.
03:22But all kidding aside, no.
03:24Middle linebackers are usually known for tackling.
03:26But the last two weeks, you made key interceptions that have saved the games.
03:30You must be proud of that.
03:32I feel very good about, you know, getting my hands on the ball.
03:35I used to be skeptical about trying to advance a fumble or interception, because the person
03:40who has that ball draws a lot of attention.
03:45You know, I don't like to be the center of attention.
03:47You really don't?
03:48I really don't.
03:49I'm a very self-conscious person.
03:51But you like making interceptions.
03:52Well, I make them because I have to make them.
03:54What was going on in your mind when you made the interception against Washington?
03:58We were in a prevent defense.
04:00Washington was driving for a score.
04:02I fell back to my area in the zone, and the Iceman threw the ball right in my chest.
04:08I saw my blockers forming.
04:10I saw the offensive men coming at me.
04:13I'm 6'3", and about 240, but I'm pretty fast also.
04:17I run about 4'6", 40.
04:19Some guys don't believe it, but, you know, I do bring that interception back.
04:23It kind of proves it.
04:27Will Harry Carson continue making game-saving interceptions?
04:31Will the surprising Giants make it to the playoffs?
04:34To find out, stay tuned to the second half of the NFL season.
04:41Robert Stelly, Marjorie Lusky, Cat Cavage, what would they think about that?
04:44And the NFL today will continue on CBS after these messages from your local stations.
