00:00Back live in New York, I'm Brent Musburger. Terry Bradshaw has just been taken off the
00:04field in St. Louis, a leg injury for the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, a big afternoon for
00:09the Cleveland Browns. They were 2-0, playing the winless Baltimore Colts. Late in the game,
00:14Cy Pitts is outstanding tied in. Ozzie Newsome, who gets down to the Baltimore 15-yard line.
00:20Score is tied, and Don Cockcroft never misses a money kick. 28 yards out, there's the field
00:26goal, 13-10 Browns. Time left, though, for Greg Landry and the Colts, and here they come.
00:32On a key third down, it is incomplete, out of the end zone, but roughing the passer on
00:37Lyle Alzado. Time for the Colts to tie it. Here comes Linhardt. He had missed two. Sets
00:43up now with a 28-yard opportunity. The snap is perfect, and here comes the kick that would
00:48have sent it to overtime. No good. But hold on. A flag has gone down in front of the Cleveland
00:54bench, and no one picks it up quicker than Teddy Marchabroda, the Colt coach. He says,
00:59let's go, let's line him up again. There's a penalty. Get back on the field, he tells
01:02the field goal team. No such luck. Unsportsmanlike conduct against the Cleveland Browns. Thus
01:09it was assessed. After the ball was turned over, the Browns ran out the clock. They win
01:13at 13-10. The Browns are now unbeaten, and they could be in first place because St. Louis
01:19leads Pittsburgh 15-7. Jane, let's take everyone around the league right now. The New York
01:24Jets, they win for the first time this year, 31-10 over Detroit. And Kevin Long with three
01:30touchdowns for the Jets. Now Philadelphia is 2-1, as they beat winless New Orleans 26-14.
01:37The Barefoot rookie, Tony Franklin, kicked four field goals for the Eagles, and now Brent,
01:41he is 6-6 for the year. And the final I just reported, 13-10, Cleveland over Baltimore
01:47on the strength of that Cockcroft field goal. And a final in overtime, Denver 20, Atlanta
01:5317. 25-yard field goal by Denver's Jim Turner won the game in overtime despite 325 yards
02:01passing for Atlanta quarterback Steve Barkowski. New England drives to a 2-1 record. Cincinnati
02:06still winless, 2014 final. Steve Grogan threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Stanley Morgan
02:12for New England. Ken Anderson was hospitalized, as we said earlier, with back problems and
02:16replaced by rookie Jack Thompson. Tampa Bay, unbeaten in three games, a surprise team of
02:22the league, 21-10 over the Packers. Tampa Bay is now 3-0, and they lead the NFC Central
02:27Division. And Houston runs its record to 2-1, Kansas City 1-2, 26th final. Gifford Nielsen
02:33starting in place of injured quarterback Dan Pastorini threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to
02:38Tim Wilson. And Earl Campbell with 32 carries, 131 yards, the Bull is back. Another unbeaten
02:45team, Miami 27, Minnesota 12. In Bloomington, the Bikes fall apart in the second half. In
02:51the second half, quarterback Don Strzok replaced the injured Bob Greasy and threw for two touchdowns
02:56to lead Miami to a come-from-behind victory. The St. Louis Cardinals, Ann Otis Anderson
03:0115, Pittsburgh 7, and Bradshaw Hurt. The Cardinals are surprisingly dominating the Steelers early
03:07in the first half, and as you said, they carry Terry Bradshaw out on a stretcher. San Francisco
03:11has ambushed Los Angeles in the Coliseum, 10-0 in the second period. At halftime, the game you're
03:17watching, Dallas over the Bears 10-7. Another game is at the half, San Diego 13, Buffalo 12.
03:24Buffalo giving San Diego all they can handle despite two touchdown runs by San Diego's
03:29Clarence Williams. And Seattle again beating Oakland 10-0. That game is at the half. We've
03:35got a lot more highlights coming up. Baseball scores, and we'll be back as the NFL today
03:39continues on CBS after these messages from your local stations.
03:43Game of a doubleheader. St. Louis 4 and the Montreal Expos 3, an ideal chance for the
03:50Pittsburgh Pirates to pick up at least a full game on the Expos. They are playing the New
03:54York Mets. Candelaria in the first inning, and the slam to right center field by Elliott
04:00Maddox. Parker can't get over in time, and Maddox takes the turn and goes into second
04:05base for a double with the Mets. Lee Mazzilli on a tear, hits safely in 17 straight games,
04:10lines a single into left field. Here comes Maddox. That made it 1-0, and the Mets shut
04:15out the Pirates 3-0. Pirates still lead by a half game. One final in in the American
04:20League. Milwaukee defeats the California Angels, and Frank Tanana, 2-1, was the final in that
04:24game. We had another overtime game this afternoon in the NFL. Let's check in on Denver and Atlanta.
04:31Figured to be a tough defensive game, and it was, down in Atlanta this afternoon. Bartkowski
04:37against Norris Weiss. Weiss, the Denver quarterback, on the keeper, runs in it with 7-0 Broncos.
04:42Back comes Bartkowski, looking for Alfred Jenkins. He's covered. Ball is tipped, and
04:48Jenkins somehow holds on at the Denver 24-yard line. Bartkowski now, going back. They need
04:537 to tie. Got Wallace Francis alone, and the extra point ties it at 17. Time running out.
04:59Tim Mazzetti. He can win it for the Falcons right here, but he's wide, and the game goes
05:04to overtime. And it is Weiss again, not being replaced by Craig Morton this time. Looking
05:08for Haven Moses down the right sideline. Moses breaks free and gets down to the 11-yard line.
05:15On third down, Red Miller says that's far enough. Turner kicks the field goal. 20-17.
05:20Denver beats Atlanta in overtime. The New York Jets, winless, embarrassed last Sunday by
05:27New England. Walt Michaels knew one thing. I've got to get Wesley Walker open. I've got
05:31to get my great wide receiver some passes. But wouldn't you know it? Detroit struck first.
05:36Kamlo hits David Hill. 7-0 Lions over the Jets. Then finally, Richard Todd and quarterback,
05:43and they find Wesley Walker. No finer wide receiver in all of football. Splits the two
05:47defenders down to the 15-yard line. Kevin Long hammers behind. The left side of Walt's
05:52offensive line. 7-7 after the extra point. Richard Todd, once again, this time working
05:58the left sideline. Watch the pass. It's beautiful. Right there, Wesley Walker runs under it.
06:03Out of bounds at the Detroit 7, and once again, it was Kevin Long. This time, over to the
06:07right side, and it was 14-7 Jets. Now, second half. Richard Todd knows who's got the hot
06:14hands. It's Wesley Walker. 30-yard reception this time, and that set up still another Jets
06:19score. This time, it'll be Scott Durking. A two-yard run. It was 24-10, and then a little
06:25insurance and touchdown. Number three for Kevin Long. 31-10, the final score the Jets
06:30win for the first time this year. Irv, you've got a couple of sets of highlights. Philadelphia
06:34and New Orleans. Eagles were hot today. They traveled down to the Superdome in New Orleans
06:38and defeated the Saints by a score of 26-14. The Saints, even though they have the most
06:43powerful offense in football, are now 0-3. And it was the Eagles' day today as Ron Jaworski
06:48goes back and hits his favorite running back, Wilbert Montgomery, who catches the pass here
06:52and scores, and the Eagles take a 10-0 lead. Just before the half ended, the Saints needed
06:56a miracle play, and they get one right here. Wes Chandler making a great catch, weaving
07:01his way upfield, goes in to score, and at halftime, the score was 13-7 Philadelphia.
07:06But late in the fourth quarter, the Eagles, after having dominated the second half of
07:09the game, pitch out here to Billy Canfield. He goes over his right end, touchdown, and
07:13the Eagles win 26-14. Tampa Bay and Green Bay went to work today in Green Bay, and
07:20the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are undefeated, folks, 3-0, and the Packers right now are sitting
07:251-2 in the NFC Central Division. This has been a problem for the, this is a story really
07:31today up in Green Bay today, fumbles. Fumble after fumble after fumble, six of them. Turtle
07:35Middleton fumbles, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers recover. Jerry Eckwood, number 43 on the next
07:40play, takes the pitch out, goes 40 yards, touchdown, and they take a 7-3 lead over Green
07:45Bay. Doug Williams had a pretty good day throwing the ball, 13 for 25 and 132 yards, one touchdown.
07:51Here he hits number 42, Ricky Bell, goes down for another TD run, TD pass. Ricky Bell again
07:56going to work, number 42 going over his right end, 19-yard touchdown, and the Tampa Bay
08:00Buccaneers defeat the Green Bay Packers by a score of 21-10. Can you believe Ricky Bell's
08:05explosion today, and Tampa Bay could be leading now if Dallas, of course, beats Chicago in
08:10the second half. We've got an update on the Rams and the 49ers for you. The Rams have
08:14just scored on a Pat Hayden pass, 10-7, San Francisco leading. We'll update everything
08:19at the end of the game and have highlights on the Rams and the 49ers, but right now,
08:22let's send you back to Texas and the Sunshine Boys. Here's Pat Summerall and Tom Brookshire.
