00:00But let's get back to the American pitch, if you will.
00:02We got a chock-full day on Saturday of games here for preseason action in the NFL.
00:07It feels like a college football Saturday, Dubs.
00:09You got games starting at 12 o'clock, 1 o'clock, 3 o'clock, 4 o'clock at night.
00:13You can sit back and watch.
00:14And if there was one week to watch preseason football, Dubs, it's week number two.
00:19Most teams will be playing starters at least through the first quarter and maybe up to the first half.
00:25We previewed a few of those guys, like Patrick Holmes getting some run here
00:28and some other quarterbacks around the NFL.
00:31But on a Saturday, that's week number two.
00:33How much do you pay attention to these games here, Dubs, to try to get yourself ready
00:38for that action that's going to begin in early September?
00:41Yeah, absolutely. And for some of the youngest squads, you know,
00:44especially like the Falcons taking on the Ravens there early Saturday,
00:47we're likely going to see the likes of Michael Pennix in the mix there.
00:51I think it's fantastic. Am I going to really go after it on the wagering side of things?
00:55No, I'm going to approach with absolute caution for preseason two.
00:59But it's a great measure to see where some of these rosters are really at,
01:02the kind of depth that they may need to make that postseason push there.
01:05But in terms of jumping in, you can see all these lines really close.
01:09The biggest one we got there is a touchdown for the Raiders lane at home.
01:12And they've got quite the quarterback battle there as well.
01:14So I think we see some great matchups.
01:16We highlighted earlier on the show, Patrick Mahomes expected to get a lot of reps
01:19in that first half for the Chiefs taking on the Lions.
01:24So for a couple of young guys interested to see how they get their shot
01:27because everything is on the line.
01:29It's not so much about the superstars.
01:30It's the young guys line for those roster spots before we actually hit week one
01:34in the regular season. So fantastic. Football is back.
01:37It's not college football this Saturday. It's NFL preseason week two, Donny.
01:42Yeah, a lot of kids that are actually just got out of college
01:45will be playing this Saturday trying to make their, you know,
01:47name known here and make a football team.
01:49Let me ask you this question because sometimes things come up
01:52that were a little bit abnormal.
01:53The Ravens felt like they hadn't lost a preseason game since 1999.
01:57I mean, 20, 20 plus games in a row. They lose to the Philadelphia Eagles.
02:01They take on the Falcons this weekend.
02:03They're at home as a slight favorite minus one and a half.
02:06Is Harbaugh down there telling his team,
02:08look, another streak begins here and do you bet the Ravens
02:12because they lost last week. They're not used to losing.
02:15Is that an angle that we can play in the preseason, Dubsy?
02:18What was the record for John Harbaugh?
02:20He went 24 straight preseason wins and now they've dropped three.
02:25What happened to Jones? He's still on holidays there.
02:27Look, I think it's going to be a fantastic one.
02:28Obviously, Kirk Cousins won't get the nod there for the Falcons,
02:32but we get in the mail that Michael Penix is expected to see a lot of reps.
02:35I'm excited to see what he brings to that offense for the Ravens.
02:38They'll get Josh Johnson, who's most likely, you know, a bit of a journeyman.
02:42We've seen a fair bit there around the league as a bit of a backup,
02:45but for the Ravens, yes, they're going to get back to those winning ways.
02:48But I do feel like the Falcons,
02:51and they've brought over a couple of big signings this week.
02:53There's Justin Simmons joins the crew there.
02:55There's got to be a great buzz, a great energy in the building right now, Donny.
03:00So this is a young team, a young squad with some great positional players.
03:04All things point towards another big performance.
03:06So maybe it's the Falcons going to put another preseason loss
03:11towards John Harbaugh and make it four straight.
03:14You know what's interesting, too, about this a couple of these games?
03:16The Vikings at the Browns.
03:17You might look at that like, ah, it's preseason.
03:19But the fact that you lost J.J. McCarthy for the season here for the Minnesota Vikings,
03:23I'm interested to see if Sam Darnold plays and how long he does.
03:26Because I know, and it's just human nature at this point,
03:29you get a little shell shock.
03:30If you watch one of your players go down,
03:32you say, I can't afford to have another quarterback go down.
03:35But also, Sam Darnold does need to play a little bit.
03:38New scheme, new system, now installed as the starter.
03:41I wonder how they treat that football game.
03:43So something to watch there.
03:44But it is a notable weekend across the board.
03:46We're going to check into some of these rookies that will be playing in a little bit.
03:49But if you, if I made you right now, the head coach in Minnesota Vikings, Kevin O'Connor,
03:53are you playing Sam Darnold this weekend?
03:55Or are you scared because you already lost J.J. McCarthy?
03:59I'm scared, Donnie.
04:01I'm scared.
04:01I'm looking after Sammy Darnold.
04:04Tell you what, for Sam Darnold, this is the opportunity that my guy has been waiting for.
04:09Jets, Panthers, 49ers.
04:11He's finally got the weapons where maybe he's got a chance to succeed.
04:15And you look on the other side of the ball there for the Browns.
04:17The Sean Wads are not expected to play.
04:19But they've got a great backup there.
04:21Famous James Winston.
04:22He's likely going to get the refs up.
04:24If the Vikings decide to show up and be a little cautious,
04:27the Browns' Lyons Rhee with James Winston still trying to show that he's got, you know,
04:32the starter ability.
04:33Watch out for the Browns there.
04:34Maybe that's a number we can cover just sitting right around a field goal.
04:38Yeah, we always like those instances where the quarterbacks need to play.
04:41The Steelers are a five-and-a-half-point favorite
04:43because Russ does want to have a good start for NFL football next on Football Friday.
04:48Let's go, streaking people!
04:50In the preseason, are you kidding me?
04:52You know, we usually only play three games now,
04:53but two teams in the NFL get to play four games in the preseason
04:56because of the Hall of Fame game.
04:58That is the Chicago Bears.
05:00Won their first two games.
05:01Matt Eberflus, the needle pointing up here as they take on the Cincinnati Bengals in game number three.
05:08Now, I always take a look at these odds as you're seeing on the screen right now.
05:11The Fanville Sportsbook, a touchdown favorite here for the Chicago Bears.
05:16A total that's listed at 36-and-a-half.
05:18Before we take a quick preview of what I think about this game,
05:21how do you feel, Doves, laying close to a tardy here in preseason action?
05:24Do you just take the points at that point?
05:27Nah, I can't, Donnie.
05:29I mean, that's far too much.
05:31The oddsmakers tell us it's going to be a low score, 36-and-a-half,
05:35and you still want me to lay a touchdown here for the Bears
05:38with a couple of question marks of who we're really going to see out there in the mix.
05:41Minus 280.
05:43Is the juice worth the squeeze?
05:44I would say absolutely.
05:45Pass, advance, moving on to the next one.
05:48But this has got to be the trendiest team in the offseason.
05:50Caleb Williams, he looked fantastic there last week for the Bengals.
05:54Joey Burrow, he's back to full health.
05:56Obviously, Jamar Chase, still yet to get that signature,
05:59still yet to get that contract that he's been waiting for.
06:02But this is what we saw last year.
06:04It was Joe Burrow's contract talks going right into week one.
06:07So we've seen the market reset there.
06:09So the Bengals taking on the Bears.
06:11Could I lay the Bears at close to a touchdown?
06:13Absolutely not for week two in the preseason, Donnie.
06:17Yeah, thorough dress rehearsal here.
06:19Maybe we're looking at some of those starters here,
06:20and those numbers typically indicate whose team is going to play starters
06:23and who cares about that game.
06:24Let me ask you two questions about the Bengals quickly.
06:27Joe Burrow last year, devastating injury to his throwing wrist,
06:30rehabs it all offseason, got the surgery.
06:32He says he's going to be okay.
06:34Secondary, Jamar Chase, one of the best wide receivers in football,
06:37wants a new payday, doesn't look like he's going to get that.
06:40We always talk about those, like,
06:41the vibes need to be high entering into the season.
06:44You're good players, you're great players.
06:46You always want to take care of them.
06:47Are there any issues inside the locker room for you on the Bengals,
06:51not only heading into this preseason game,
06:52but certainly early in the weeks here in September?
06:56Now, I don't have boots on the ground, Donnie,
06:58but for me, I don't like what I've seen going through the offseason.
07:01It's great to have Joe Burrow back at full health.
07:03He's a top five quarterback in the league, absolutely.
07:06There's no Joe Mixon.
07:07Now Zach Moss comes in at running back.
07:09They've lost Tyler Boyd.
07:10Mike Izzechi comes in at tight end.
07:12But for Jamar Chase, in looking to try and get paid,
07:15Justin Jefferson's deal got done there for $35 million per year.
07:18So obviously, Jamar Chase, he wants the same number.
07:22Even going to try and reset the market there again.
07:24This is not what you want to see.
07:26You want to get every player buying in, especially the star power.
07:30You've got Joe Burrow happy,
07:31but he needs a couple of fantastic wide receivers to be thrown to,
07:34and they've got to want that skin in the game.
07:36For Jamar Chase, they've got to get this deal sorted prior to week one
07:40so everything looks fine for Who Day Nation.
07:43So yeah, a little cause for concern, Donnie, absolutely.
07:47No, no doubt about it.
07:48You want to have those guys worried about the football field,
07:50not the off the football field stuff like getting a paycheck here.
07:53If we move it forward to the Arizona Cardinals taking on the Indianapolis Colts,
07:57that game is going to be Saturday night at 7 p.m. in Indy.
08:00A minus two and a half point favorite here for the Colts
08:02and a total of 36 and a half,
08:04maybe more of a preview here for Anthony Richardson.
08:06Shane Steichen, the offensive coordinator for the Colts.
08:08I'm very high on him coming from that Eagles ilk,
08:10provided that spark last year, even without Richardson.
08:13How do we feel this year about Anthony Richardson?
08:15Does he step in and be that franchise guy right away?
08:18Or is the jury for you still going to be out on him, Dubs?
08:21No, I'm big on Anthony Richardson.
08:23We obviously didn't get to see enough there last year,
08:26but again, just being in the building,
08:28getting to learn the pro scheme, a bit more maturity.
08:31You can see that the arm strength is absolutely there.
08:33He's been fantastic with those wheels,
08:35trying to get out of the pocket as we get set for preseason week too.
08:38So I like what I've seen from the Colts.
08:40I think they've got a fantastic play caller.
08:42And for the Cardinals, I mean, a couple of question marks there for Kyler Murray.
08:46He certainly got a couple of great additions through the offseason there.
08:50So minus 135 for the Colts.
08:52Very interested to see in this game.
08:55You asked us at the top of the segment, Donnie,
08:57what will I take from preseason week two?
08:59This is a game that I'll absolutely be locked in on
09:02where there are a couple of question marks behind,
09:04a couple of young quarterbacks to absolutely have that top side.
09:07But coming back after significant injuries, still time will tell.
09:12Yeah, you know what's going to be fascinating too is
09:14sometimes you like what happened last season.
09:16Let's just say if the Arizona Cardinals wrote that entire season off
09:20when Kyler Murray went down, they did.
09:21Now granted, they didn't have a good season,
09:23but he came back into play.
09:25Getting a couple games under your belt as almost part of your rehab process,
09:29I think was pretty key heading into that offseason.
09:32Jonathan Gannon's second year getting that team,
09:34you know, you know what?
09:35They're used to my offseasons now.
09:37They're used to the way we work things.
09:38It's the second straight year.
09:39We're going to have the same defense offensive mentalities here.
09:42Let's see if we can move forward.
09:43So I do think maybe they have a better season this year.
09:46They got a couple of talented players on their team,
09:48which includes one of those rookies,
09:50which we're going to talk about in the next segment.
09:52Those rookie of the year honors,
09:53could a wide receiver take it over a quarterback?
09:56But Arizona's sort of up in the air out there in the West.
09:59You're certainly going to have the San Francisco 49ers,
10:01the Rams, who are probably a better team,
10:02along with the Seahawks.
10:03We'll see if the Arizona Cardinals find their footing in 2024.
10:06The rookies, who takes the hardware home as the best of the year?
10:10Come find out next.
10:12Right out of the gates we go,
10:13and that is the National Football League set to get underway early September.
10:17Thursday night football.
10:18It's going to be the Kansas City Chiefs.
10:20It's going to be the Baltimore Ravens,
10:21and away we go,
10:22which means we got to talk some hardware here for us,
10:26Dubs.
10:26Who is going to be that offensive rookie of the year?
10:29Typically, it's a quarterback award,
10:31and no stranger here on the FanBlue Sportsbook
10:33to take a look at that awards market.
10:34Caleb Williams at a plus 135 price.
10:37Jaden Daniels at a plus 550 price.
10:39We're expecting big things out of those quarterbacks this year.
10:42Rookies coming in,
10:43a lot of good offensive weapons that they can deal with.
10:46Good seasons should be on the horizon.
10:47Then we get to the wide receivers.
10:50Harrison out there, plus 750 price,
10:52following in his father's footsteps being one of those more dominant wide receivers.
10:56You take a look at neighbors for the New York Giants at a 10 to 1 price.
10:59Worthy at a 14 to 1 price.
11:01Let me ask you this.
11:02Is it possible that a non-quarterback is going to be able to win this award in 2024, Dubs?
11:08I think it's tough, Tony,
11:09and we got so much recency bias.
11:11You know, we saw CJ Stroud as an absolute standout last year.
11:14If you look at this odds board,
11:15it tells us the awards already been handed to Caleb Williams at a plus 135.
11:21So no one's surprised.
11:22He was the first pick off the board for Chicago in that offense.
11:26They look strong through week one of the preseason.
11:29He's got all the tools in place.
11:31The only question marks I had, Tony, were coming in to the pro scheme.
11:35You know, how would he really adapt at that level?
11:37Wasn't fantastic last year there for USC.
11:40I know we turn it back to the Heisman there in 2022.
11:43What a record he put together there for the Trojans.
11:47But I mean, this is, I guess, the buy low spot.
11:50I can absolutely not jump in to play a futures market for Caleb Williams at plus 135.
11:55You've always been asked the question about injury.
11:58What if the Bears don't figure it out?
11:59What if there are a couple of issues in that locker room?
12:02By all reports, Caleb is the guy.
12:04He's telling them to pick up the towels, put them in the washing machine.
12:07I don't know.
12:07Maybe some of the older guys don't get on the same page there.
12:11Big expectations for Jaden Daniels at plus 550.
12:14If there were a player in going against the quarterbacks,
12:17I think it is Marvin Harrison Jr.
12:19We highlighted going towards the Cardinals.
12:20He's got Kyler Murray.
12:22I'm very big on Kyler Murray there for Arizona.
12:25And you take a look.
12:26He's got that pass catching.
12:27He's got the route running abilities.
12:28He's built at six foot four.
12:30So this is a kid that can absolutely have an impact.
12:33Day one, he's going to have to put up some monster numbers.
12:36Likely going to have to be top 10 in the league there in receiving yards.
12:39But you're still getting a fantastic price.
12:41So I think that would be the play against for me.
12:43If you weren't buying in at plus 135 on Caleb.
12:47Yeah, boy, we got spoiled last year.
12:49It's obvious.
12:49You take a look at guy like CJ Stroud comes into a team that we didn't expect
12:52a lot from last year.
12:53The Houston Texans is absolutely phenomenal.
12:55He sets that bar here for Williams and Daniels here entering into 2024.
13:00A fun market.
13:01We'll see how some of these young kids perform early on in their NFL careers.
13:04But let's get to a game on Saturday afternoon.
13:07It's going to be the Detroit Lions and the Kansas City Chiefs.
13:10Look at this number here.
13:11Dubs minus 7.
13:12A full touchdown favorite for Kansas City in a total of 38 and a half.
13:17It's a high number there.
13:18It's a high number on the total at 38 and a half.
13:20Why?
13:20Well, Andy Rhee comes in and says, you know what?
13:22Patrick Mahomes in that offense.
13:24We might let it rip for an entire first half.
13:26That's going to change numbers, but it does catch your eye here.
13:29Dubsy.
13:29Is it worthy to lay seven points in this game in your opinion versus the Lions?
13:34You've got my attention Donnie.
13:36But again, a full touchdown.
13:37We know if Andy Rhee and the Kansas City Chiefs likely not going to play their
13:41starters in week three.
13:42So we'll see Patrick Mahomes and a couple of the superstars out there in the mix
13:46for the first half.
13:47But Patty Mahomes, he's going to have to have that offense absolutely humming.
13:50They're probably going to have to go up by 14 or so to cover that one going into
13:54the second half there for the Detroit Lions.
13:56A couple of question marks.
13:57Not expected to see a lot of their starters.
14:00And for the Chiefs, I guess Hollywood Brown, that was the big injury coming
14:04across there in week one for the Lions.
14:05Jamar Gibbs now dealing with that hamstring injury as well.
14:09So close to seven.
14:10I think the Chiefs will absolutely get it rolling there in the first half and maybe
14:14that's the way I'd look to play it.
14:16Bank on Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in that first half.
14:19In the game total, late in this one, in the fourth, anything can happen.
14:22But at minus 320 for a preseason game, Andy Rhee's going to have them fired up.
14:27For the Chiefs outlook here in 2024, I think it's Super Bowl or Buster once again
14:33because you've got Patrick Mahomes, you've got Andy Rhee.
14:35They're used to getting the Super Bowls and winning Super Bowls.
14:37I'm not, I don't smoke cigarettes, but I felt like I needed a couple packs of cigarettes
14:41watching the Chiefs play down the stretch lace.
14:43You're saying, how is this possible?
14:45They're beating these football teams.
14:47This is the least talented Chiefs offense we're supposed to have known over the past
14:50four to five years and they still dubs won the Super Bowl.
14:53So look at those odds to win the AFC West, a minus 230 price, to win the AFC title,
14:58a plus 350 price, to win the Super Bowl, a six to one price.
15:02Are we buying into another Super Bowl championship, which will make it three in a row
15:06for the Chiefs here, Dubsy?
15:09Donnie, if I said no, you'd say, Dubsy, you've been on the good stuff early on a Friday,
15:14but I can't.
15:15I think they avoided a lot of misfires there going through the regular season last year.
15:20I mean, they couldn't score in the second half.
15:23Spags are still one of the best minds in the game.
15:25The defensive side got them out of a lot of trouble.
15:27And then the other two key names, Andy Rhee and Patrick Mahomes.
15:31Whenever you got these two calling shots, yes, they're going to be a factor late in
15:35the season, but they've just got to make it towards the playoffs there.
15:38So yes, the class, the experience.
15:41Does it get easier in search of a third consecutive Lombardi?
15:45I don't think so.
15:46Every team is going to be playing their Super Bowl when they take on the Kansas City Chiefs
15:50and we'll see that opening night coming up on the 5th of September.
15:53But I do think there are a couple of concerns.
15:56You know, the drop balls, that was a real thing last year.
15:59Which weapons is Patty Mahomes really going to have?
16:01Hollywood Brown, is he going to be back for full fitness to start this year?
16:05Travis Kelsey, fantastic catcher of the ball.
16:08What's he really going to put through another season?
16:11I mean, he is copping big body shot after big body shot.
16:14So for Patty Mahomes, he's going to have to be every bit of that superstar that we have
16:19seen through the last couple of years to make up for a couple of deficiencies that I see
16:23with that offense in terms of how do we play him on the betting side of things.
16:26Plus 600, it's Super Bowl or nothing, Donnie.
16:30That's it.
16:31It's the only way to jump in.
16:33I'm telling you, even as a handicapper, died in the wall.
16:35I see it year to year.
16:36You're trying to take a look at this version of a team as opposed to what they did in the past.
16:40But last year was the year to get the Kansas City Chiefs and nobody could get them.
16:44They're more talented this year than they were last year.
16:46Now granted, you still have to perform.
16:47There are going to be injuries that happen.
16:49I get that.
16:50But that was such an unbelievable playoff performance by the Chiefs.
16:53It's hard to not believe they're not going to be competitive,
16:55meaning competitive, getting to another Super Bowl with a legitimate chance to win it.
16:59And Patrick Mahomes, obviously, is the linchpin.
17:02Andy Reid is an unbelievable head coach slash offensive coordinator.
17:05If we look at some of the season-long props here for Patrick Mahomes, touchdowns,
17:0932 and a half to be yardage-wise, 4,225 and a half yards.
17:15The touchdown leader, plus 550, and the yardage leader at a 7-to-1 price.
17:20I don't know how you feel.
17:21The one thing, passing touchdowns, is anybody going to take the under on a Patrick Mahomes number?
17:25It's really hard to do.
17:26Outside of injury, he's probably going to eclipse that.
17:28How we feel about Patrick Mahomes, another season, another chance at an MVP here, Dubs?
17:34Yeah, he's going to be right in the conversation.
17:37And you've got to correlate all these bad times.
17:39If you think the Chiefs can go on to win it all, it is going to be largely in part thanks to Patrick Mahomes.
17:44Look at the numbers that he put up last year.
17:47He's only getting better.
17:48I don't think we put enough credit towards how good Patrick Mahomes really is.
17:52The poise that he shows when everything's up against him there.
17:55So the MVP at plus 500, I don't mind that.
17:58Offensive player of the year there at 50-to-1.
18:01But yes, I will be playing overs on his passing yards and absolutely overs on those passing touchdowns as well.
18:07Because you look at the run game, it's solid for the Chiefs.
18:09With Patrick Mahomes, he will be dissected in that red zone.
18:13I mean, you just expect it.
18:15It's third and seven.
18:16What do you say?
18:17Forget about the ponder.
18:18We're going to convert this first down.
18:20Oh, look, the Chiefs are down with 15 seconds to go basically in a playoff game and they need to score.
18:24Yeah, Patty Mahomes will handle that as well.
18:26He's absolutely fantastic.
18:28So nothing short of greatness is what we expect.
18:30But if we do look at that MVP market and look at some of the guys that might be able to chase down Patrick Mahomes, it's Josh Allen at an 8-to-1 price.
18:37It's CJ Stroud at a 10-to-1 price along with Joe Burrow, Jalen Hurts, and Jordan Love.
18:43They're all quarterbacks here.
18:44If I had to give you one quarterback outside of Patrick Mahomes, who's chasing him down as a legitimate chance for the MVP, Dubs?
18:51It's going to be Josh Allen.
18:52You know, no stuff on D's.
18:54A couple of question marks there for the Bills.
18:56If Josh Allen can have a similar trajectory for Buffalo and trying to make them get through the playoffs there, I think it's going to have to be off the back of a fantastic individual season there for Josh.
19:06He's one of the best athletes in the game.
19:08I consider him to be a top-five quarterback.
19:10And obviously, the odds make us have him as a very sure choice in taking out the MVP title there.
19:15So if you're looking to play against Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen's certainly worthy of a bit of a sprinkle.
19:21Oh, man.
19:21Just getting excited for the NFL regular season.
19:24It's right around the corner.
19:25But there is more preseason games on Saturday we're going to have to talk about.
19:29We'll do that next right here on The Early Line.
19:32Football is meant to be played on Sundays, people.
19:34We got a full slate here on a Saturday card that we just talked about.
19:38The Brewery doubleheader Sunday night football to get ready for.
19:42Let's talk about it.
19:43The mile-high matchup.
19:44It's going to be the Green Bay Packers and the Denver Broncos.
19:47Look at this number here again.
19:49A seven-point favorite for the home team.
19:52That's the Denver Broncos in a total of 39 1⁄2.
19:55Now, we understand if this was a regular season game, Dubsy, that line ain't minus seven for the Denver Broncos.
20:01Which leads you to believe there is a quarterback battle that we still have to determine who's going to win that spot here for the Denver Broncos.
20:08How much are we going to see out of Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers in this game?
20:11So, let's start there.
20:13These two teams, different maybe expectations.
20:15Let's see what we can do with the Denver Broncos.
20:18But we expect the Green Bay Packers to be a solid playoff contender here in 2024.
20:22But if I ask you a question, starting young quarterbacks like Bo Nicks,
20:26we saw the early looks from Sean Payton of the Denver Broncos say,
20:29you know what?
20:30We're going to put Bo Nicks third on the depth chart.
20:33He looked pretty good in his preseason debut.
20:35Now, taking a look at game number two.
20:37The expectations for Bo Nicks in this game and also, Dubs,
20:40do we expect Bo Nicks to be that game one starter for the Denver Broncos?
20:44Look, he did everything right in week one of the preseason.
20:48The Broncos offense went off their 34-30 against the Colts.
20:52We highlighted the unders was the trend there from week one of the preseason.
20:55Well, it certainly wasn't between the Broncos and the Colts.
20:57I love what I saw from Bo Nicks.
20:58I thought he was the standout of week one.
21:01He was sharp.
21:02He showed a lot of poise and maturity in that pocket.
21:05We know he's a tremendous athlete.
21:07And this is a 24-year-old rookie that's seen a lot of reps going through college,
21:12via Auburn to Oregon.
21:13So it really doesn't look like he's getting his first touches here
21:17in the National Football League.
21:18Will he be the starter week one?
21:20A couple of question marks.
21:21There may be a similar thing that we see around the league
21:24that maybe he's held off there through the first third of the season.
21:27But I think for the Denver Broncos,
21:28in their best chance at staying in a lot of these games,
21:32I think it would be Bo Nicks.
21:33There is plenty of upside.
21:35And he looked mature beyond his years from what we saw there.
21:38The win title's only set at 5.5 for the Broncos.
21:40So the odds makers don't have the biggest of expectations.
21:43But you look at the back end of last year
21:45and what they did achieve there for Sean Baden,
21:486-1 to close out the year.
21:50I know there was a lot of speculation, a lot of drama with Russell Wilson.
21:53But I think things are looking a lot better there for the Denver Broncos.
21:56And they've got some young guys who are still trying to prove a lot.
21:59So no surprises if we do see Bo Nicks, you know, with that jostling
22:03for the starting spot between Stidham and Zach Wilson.
22:07No surprises here. The Broncos are favored in this one.
22:10And they're going to be looking at the Green Bay Packers
22:12and saying, that's what we want to look like
22:14in one, two, three years from now.
22:16But a minus 3.10 coming in for this one on Sunday afternoon,
22:20that's a big number for the Broncos to lay.
22:22They were impressive last week.
22:24They're going to have to take another forward step for this one.
22:27It's a great talking point you bring up, Dubs, too,
22:29because it's not as if Bo Nicks, and sometimes you go back to,
22:31let's just say, Mitchell Trubisky coming out of North Carolina
22:34and going to the Chicago Bears.
22:35What's the doubt? What's the trap there?
22:37Only started about a dozen games in his career.
22:39Bo Nicks is like a veteran coming into the NFL
22:41and also doing it in two big conferences as well.
22:44He shifted around quite a bit.
22:45He's used to learning new terminology and being in a new place,
22:48so maybe gives him an advantage.
22:50Let's take a look at New Orleans and San Francisco.
22:52Also going to take place at 8 p.m. Eastern on Sunday night.
22:55The questions for me are not who's going to win this game.
22:58Saints, a slight favorite at minus 1.5 at the Bamboo Sportsbook
23:01and a total of 38.5.
23:03But the question marks for me, San Francisco,
23:05if everybody hits the field,
23:07maybe the most talented team in the NFL, Dubs.
23:10But are we worried here?
23:11We haven't heard.
23:12It's been radio silence on what's going to take place
23:14with Brandon Ayuk over the past week.
23:16Teams have offers in place.
23:18Compensation has been agreed to.
23:20He hasn't said yes or no yet.
23:21So let me ask you this question.
23:23San Francisco heading into this preseason game
23:25and the first regular season game.
23:27Are we worried a little bit that Ayuk maybe won't be there?
23:30Trent Williams is holding up,
23:32maybe the best left tackle in football.
23:33I always talk about those vibes here for San Francisco.
23:36A little bit shaky right now.
23:39Vibes are not high up there in the Bay Area.
23:42But no doubt about it,
23:43this is the best roster coming in for a new year
23:46with Brandon Ayuk, without Brandon Ayuk.
23:48I mean, the latest mail coming across there yesterday
23:50is that now he's happy to stay in San Francisco
23:53if they can figure something out.
23:55Well, you jumping on TikTok, my guy,
23:57doesn't tell me so much.
23:58So a couple of question marks
23:59who we're actually going to see out there for this one.
24:01But for the 49ers, again,
24:03you don't want to see the off the field banter
24:08and contract negotiations taking place
24:10as we head into week two of the preseason.
24:12But for the 49ers,
24:13I have no doubts that Kyle Shonahan in management
24:16will figure this thing out
24:18and they'll be rocking and rolling for week one.
24:20And again, with Brandon Ayuk, fantastic.
24:23Without, I don't think it hurts their chances
24:25as being one of the co-favorites there
24:27to win it all alongside the Kansas City Chiefs.
24:30Let's focus here for a bit on the New Orleans Saints.
24:33And this is one of those team's last year dubs
24:35coming into the preseason and into the regular season
24:38I had high hopes for.
24:39It felt like you just needed a quarterback
24:41and you got him in Derek Carr.
24:42There's talent out there,
24:43there's solid running backs,
24:44there's a decent defense.
24:46They were so underwhelming to me last year.
24:49But is there a price point now that you can look at,
24:51let's just say for the Saints,
24:52where you say, you know what,
24:53last year they had the target on their back,
24:54they were supposed to win that division,
24:56they didn't do that.
24:57Is the time to come back in on the Saints
24:59for a good season?
24:59Or for me, sometimes it's hard to get over
25:01that bad taste in your mouth,
25:02like they were such a disappointment.
25:04I'm not even looking at them this year in the NFC South.
25:07Nah, it's probably a play against for me there.
25:11I mean, Bacon Mayfield and the Bucks,
25:12they exceeded expectations.
25:14The Saints absolutely underwhelmed there.
25:16For Derek Carr, I mean,
25:17what you see is what you're going to get.
25:19Does he really have the pieces,
25:20the weapons there on offense?
25:22You know, Kamara's obviously dealing with some stuff.
25:24Chris Alavi certainly showed plenty of offside,
25:27but he's got to be a bit more consistent.
25:29So for me, Donnie,
25:30I'd say it's probably a pass going on the Saints.
25:33They're a tough out,
25:34they're tough to play against.
25:35They bring you down to their level.
25:37But I just question that top year,
25:39that top side,
25:40if they can run with some of the best teams
25:41in their division.
25:43Yeah, it should be an interesting watch overall.
25:45And it's one of those times
25:46like, were you on them a year too early?
25:48Like, oh, now it's the Saints' chance
25:50to actually be a legitimate contender in the NFC South
25:52because their schedule even coming into last year,
25:54Dubs, one of the easiest schedules
25:56in the National Football League,
25:58and still they were so underwhelming last year
26:00in an underwhelming division
26:02that it sort of hurt me at that point.
26:04And I was like, you know what?
26:05Do you jump back on this year?
26:06Do you have high expectations?
26:07Is Alvin Kamara going to have a good season?
26:09Those are always the question marks.
26:11But we do have, as we said,
26:12a full NFL slate of preseason games on a Saturday,
26:15a doubleheader on Sunday.
26:16The thing is, with week number three in the preseason,
26:19which is a game number three for most of these teams,
26:21you're not going to see a lot.
26:23So if there's one week of preseason football, guys,
26:26that you want to watch,
26:26it's going to be this weekend in week number two.
26:29Get that snapshot,
26:30maybe a dress rehearsal from your favorite football team
26:32and see how that goes
26:33because within three weeks' time,
26:35we are going to be out there watching
26:37a Thursday night game
26:39followed by a Friday night game,
26:40an unbelievable Sunday night schedule,
26:43as well as Monday night football.
26:44And away we go into that regular season.
26:47And we'll see who wins that Super Bowl.
26:48Ooh, that's a good question.
26:50Who does win that Super Bowl?
26:51Dubs and Donnie on a Friday morning.
26:53We're going to talk about that next.
26:55Ah, the age-old question.
26:56If you can bring out that crystal ball,
26:58who is going to win the Super Bowl?
27:00Well, we just told you.
27:02There's a couple of really good teams
27:03at the top of that heap,
27:04which starts with the Kansas City Chiefs.
27:06But on a football Friday here on the Sports Grid Network,
27:09maybe we have a fresh approach to this.
27:10Nah, maybe not.
27:11If we look at the FanDuel Sportsbook right now
27:13and the leaderboard right now,
27:15it is the Kansas City Chiefs at a 6-1 price,
27:18the San Francisco 49ers at a 6-1 price.
27:20The only team 10-1 or less to join them,
27:23Dubs, is the Baltimore Ravens,
27:25followed by the Lions, the Eagles,
27:26the Texans, the Bengals, and the Bills.
27:28So as always, we'll start here.
27:30The co-favorites at the FanDuel Sportsbook,
27:32the Chiefs and the 49ers.
27:34One AFC, one NFC.
27:36Deserving, in your mind, Dubs,
27:38to be the leaders right now in the clubhouse.
27:41Yeah, absolutely.
27:42The Kansas City Chiefs
27:43looking for a third consecutive Lombardi.
27:45As long as it's Andy Reid, Spaggs, and Patrick Mahomes,
27:48they're going to figure out to find a way into the playoffs.
27:51And yes, they've got that X factor.
27:53They just found a way late in that season last year.
27:56So really tough in trying to bet
27:57against the Kansas City Chiefs.
27:59With a plus 600, I highlighted just before,
28:02week in, week out,
28:02every team is going to get up for the occasion.
28:05So it doesn't get any easier.
28:07I think it's going to be another tough test
28:08for the Chiefs to try and run it back
28:10in search of the hat trick.
28:11The 49ers, arguably the best roster
28:13coming in for a new year in the NFL.
28:15Whether Brendan Ayuk is going to be in the building or not,
28:18I still think the 49ers have all of that firepower.
28:21Brock Purdy, systems quarterback,
28:23say whatever you like.
28:24Cole Shanahan has a fantastic system
28:26and structure in place there
28:28with the best running back,
28:30maybe the best player in football in CMC.
28:33Christian McCaffrey and big skittles there.
28:35Georgie Kittle, one of the best tight ends there.
28:37Interested about the Baltimore Ravens, Donnie.
28:39A double digits at plus 1,000.
28:42King Henry, Derrick Henry comes across.
28:44We know they love to run the ball,
28:45but I certainly think the Ravens and the Lions
28:48exceeded expectations last year for them to run it back.
28:52I think it's going to be another tough test.
28:54So interested to see Lamar Jackson,
28:56if he can come up with another MVP campaign.
28:59Yeah, the shame of it too is last year
29:01at the Fanville Sportsbook, before the season started,
29:03the Ravens were my pick.
29:04And I believe I've made it either an 18 to 1
29:06or a 19 to 1 price.
29:07Love them as always, dubs, in the regular season,
29:10but something just doesn't click.
29:12And even in the playoffs where you have
29:13the home field advantage against Kansas City,
29:16and you knew your bread and butter is on the ground,
29:19they decide to throw it all over the lot.
29:20It doesn't work out.
29:21They go up in flames.
29:22Kansas City moves on and eventually wins a Super Bowl.
29:25So for my money, I always loved the Ravens
29:27in the regular season.
29:28But the postseason, they certainly
29:30have to prove it to me.
29:31Now, talking about the San Francisco 49ers,
29:33this does play into it a lot, certainly
29:35across the sports landscape.
29:36It takes so much energy to get to the Super Bowl,
29:39let alone win it.
29:40The 49ers went to the Super Bowl.
29:42I thought they should have won the Super Bowl,
29:43didn't play their best game.
29:45Kansas City wins.
29:46Is there any of a malaise that you worry about
29:48for the San Francisco 49ers, knowing they
29:50lost the Super Bowl last year, and getting back to it
29:53usually is a Herculean effort?
29:56It's a massive effort.
29:57But I do believe that, especially
29:58for a young team such as the 49ers,
30:01you've got to lose one before you can
30:02learn how to win one.
30:03So I think they run it back.
30:04And they'll still have plenty of confidence in the building.
30:07They'll be buoyed by their feats and efforts
30:09that we saw last year.
30:10But a couple of question marks coming out of the NFC.
30:13You know, your Eagles, Tony.
30:15I know we've got a new OC, a new DC.
30:17We've given a fantastic price for them.
30:19I consider them to have an absolutely loaded offense.
30:22If Jalen Hurts and Sirianni can just see eye to eye
30:25and get this thing going in the right direction,
30:27don't sleep on the Eagles at a monster price there.
30:30I'm obviously out here on the West Coast.
30:32I like Sean McVay and the Rams for what we saw there
30:35last year, a couple of injury concerns
30:36coming back in for this one.
30:38But in terms of playing the Futures, the Super Bowl odds,
30:41the Chiefs at 6-1, the 49ers, those numbers
30:44are a little too short for me on the betting side of things.
30:46I'd be looking towards the likes of the Eagles there.
30:49And even the Dallas Cowboys, eventually,
30:52if Dak can get happy, get paid, they're
30:54going to figure things out.
30:55They certainly have the weapons.
30:57But again, it just comes down to what we're going
30:59to see in that postseason.
31:01Can they figure it out?
31:02Can they make a bit of a run?
31:03Can they stay healthy?
31:04But the Cowboys at 18-1 and your Eagles
31:07at plus 1,300, a couple of price plays up there
31:10early for the Super Bowl odds.
31:12Yeah, we would assume that CeeDee Lamb
31:14is going to be paid and paid handsomely
31:16before week number one in the NFL.
31:17I don't know what's taking too long there.
31:19Same thing with Dak Prescott.
31:20Let's see what happens.
31:21You can usually pencil in the Dallas Cowboys
31:22for at least 10 regular season wins,
31:24and they'll challenge the Philadelphia Eagles.
31:26Quickly on this one, the Houston Texans
31:28at the Fanville Sportsbook right now is a 15-1 price.
31:30Is it too much too soon?
31:32Are we too high on the Texans right now, Dubsy?
31:35I think we are, Johnny.
31:36I'm not buying in.
31:37I'm probably more bullish on the Jags
31:39coming out of the division there for the AFC South.
31:41I think CJ Stroud absolutely exceeded all expectations
31:45there the rookie quarterback last year.
31:47I think there's a very good chance in the sophomore season
31:50that we see a bit of a backward step.
31:52We saw last week, Stephon Diggs,
31:53he's already on the sideline blowing up.
31:55He's saying, give me the ball.
31:57I want that ball.
31:58If there's a little bit of drama in schooling,
32:00I know they've got the weapons,
32:01but I think for the Texans to go
32:03and do what they did last year,
32:05it's going to be a big push uphill.
32:07Yes, the Football Friday does continue right here
32:09on the early line.
32:10Sirius XM Channel 159, SportsGrid Network,
32:13Donnie Rightside, and Joe Lisi
32:17stepping up and in here on a Friday
32:19to add some action-packed outcomes.
32:21Are we ready to talk some football on a Friday, Joe?
32:25Oh, absolutely.
32:26Did you see your Eagles win last night, 14-13?
32:29Kenny Pickett looked absolutely atrocious,
32:32but Tanner McKee gets the win,
32:34and some might say Christmas came early on the network,
32:38Donnie, me and you doing the early line.
32:41I mean, it's tremendous overall.
32:42And by the way, I mean, come on now, Kenny Pickett.
32:44Can you see the pass rush coming in front of you?
32:46I mean, Joe, we've all seen players in the pocket
32:48that say, you know what?
32:49I know the blitz is coming.
32:50I just can't do anything about it.
32:52And you're right.
32:52Tanner McKee steps up and says, hey, man,
32:54I look like a nine-year vet
32:55with three Pro Bowls under my belt.
32:57I'll deliver this W for the Eagles coming down the stretch
33:00to 2-0 Philadelphia Eagles.
33:02But if we are going to still talk preseason action,
33:05let's take a look at a game on Saturday afternoon, Joe.
33:07It's the Lions and it's the Chiefs.
33:08Heavy favorite, man.
33:09Chiefs minus seven, but the questions here are,
33:11why are they a seven-point favorite?
33:13We were told by Andy Reid,
33:14we might be getting an entire first half
33:16of those Chiefs starters.
33:18That resonates with handicappers.
33:20Do we agree with that price point?
33:21And also, how long are we actually going to see
33:23Patrick Mahomes and the starters for the Chiefs?
33:26Yeah, I think, you know,
33:27maybe the wide receivers will step up
33:29and we'll get the first-teamers in regards to maybe a half.
33:32But for Patrick Mahomes, I'm expecting a quarter of action.
33:36You can't risk his, you know, health
33:38throughout the regular season
33:40by putting him in for a half of a preseason game.
33:43But that being said, Donnie,
33:45I still think the Chiefs deserve to be a seven-point favorite.
33:4838 and a half is a huge number,
33:51though when you think about these preseason odds,
33:53I would probably lean to the under
33:55or not play it at all.
33:56But I think the Chiefs are on the side.
33:58And here's the thing as well,
33:59when you have the first-teamers,
34:01we know about Xavier Worthy, Marquise Brown,
34:04that quarterback-to-wide receiver relationship
34:07is very important in the preseason.
34:09And Patrick Mahomes needs to develop that
34:11outside of Travis Kelsey
34:12if they're going to make another run
34:14at the Super Bowl this year.
34:16Yeah, can't afford any more injuries here
34:18if you take a look at the Kansas City Chiefs.
34:20But then again, last year was the time
34:21that you were supposed to get the Kansas City Chiefs.
34:24We've been talking about this all offseason
34:25and dubbing myself again this morning.
34:27It still baffles me.
34:28If you would have told me at the end of last season
34:30the Chiefs are going to get the Miami Dolphins at home
34:32in that frostbite game,
34:33but then have to go on the road against the Bills,
34:36on the road against the Ravens,
34:37and then wind up in the Super Bowl against the 49ers.
34:39Before it happened, I said, yeah, there's no...
34:41First of all, they don't even make it
34:42to the AFC Championship game,
34:43let alone get to the Super Bowl and win the Super Bowl.
34:46And they did, Joe.
34:47So the price points this year reflected.
34:49To win the AFC West, minus 230.
34:51AFC title, plus 350.
34:54Super Bowl numbers, plus 600 here,
34:56tied with the San Francisco 49ers
34:58as we're expecting a rematch.
35:00What's the outlook for the Chiefs?
35:01Because I believe they're more talented, Joe,
35:03than they were even last year.
35:05Yeah, they're like a chameleon, right, Johnny,
35:07in terms of how they developed with Isaiah Pacheco
35:10in the rushing attack and relied on the defense.
35:12Now you get Marquise Brown
35:14and you get Xavier Worthy,
35:15the potential to be sprinkled in
35:18and have that explosive offense like they had
35:20with Tyree Kell is there, you're right.
35:22We have to see it develop.
35:24I wouldn't bet the AFC East odds, right?
35:27The minus 230 or minus 270 isn't appealing for me,
35:30but the plus 350 for the AFC and more important,
35:33six to one for a Super Bowl Championship.
35:36Yet again, you're still gonna be in the mix.
35:38There's no doubt that the Kansas City Chiefs
35:40are gonna make the playoffs.
35:41So six to one right here in the off season,
35:44I think has value, Donnie.
35:46Yeah, and also let's take a look at the West, right?
35:49Because you're looking at the Las Vegas Raiders.
35:52A lot of question marks with the quarterback situation.
35:54You look at the Denver Broncos, a lot of questions,
35:56who's gonna be the quarterback
35:57and it might even be a rookie quarterback.
35:59You take a look at the Chargers.
36:00It's Harbaugh's first year trying to institute
36:02his solo called game plan this year
36:04and see what goes in the future.
36:06We used to look at the New England Patriots show
36:08and say to ourselves, boy, every single year,
36:10it's automatic five wins.
36:11They probably get six wins in the division.
36:13Is it gonna be a walkover in this division?
36:15Because the key we thought last year was,
36:18please just get Kansas City out of home field advantage
36:21as that number one seed in the AFC.
36:23Somebody's gonna beat them and they didn't.
36:25So is it a walkover in just that own division
36:27for themselves?
36:28I think it is, Donnie.
36:30And again, we haven't seen Justin Herbert
36:32and the Chargers step up,
36:34especially with Brandon Staley.
36:36Now it's Jim Harbaugh.
36:37He loses those weapons.
36:39He's hurt entering the preseason.
36:41How is he gonna develop?
36:42Is he gonna be 100% healthy
36:44the first month of the regular season?
36:46And for me, Donnie, I think the only team
36:48that from a competitive standpoint,
36:50potentially could maybe get a win
36:53over the Kansas City Chiefs in the division
36:55is the Las Vegas Raiders.
36:57Because of Gordon Minshew,
36:58because of how that defense performed in Arrowhead
37:02last year as a 13, 12 and a half point underdog,
37:05they win it outright.
37:06They have the confidence
37:07that they can go toe-to-toe with the Chiefs.
37:10But that aside, I mean,
37:11I could see Kansas City going, quite honestly,
37:13five and one, six and O in the division.
37:16Yeah, and that's the key.
37:17And also, as long as Patrick Holmes
37:19is healthy and enters center,
37:20they're gonna do a lot of damage in 2024.
37:22If we look at those seasonal props for Patrick Holmes,
37:25touchdown passes, passing yards,
37:27will he be the touchdown leader, the yardage leader?
37:29Does anything stick out to you as an opportunity?
37:32Because the one thing we do know,
37:33it's very hard for the betting public to say,
37:35you know what, let me just take an under
37:37on Patrick Holmes in any number.
37:40Yeah, I think the passing yards is gonna be there, right?
37:43I mean, he's still gonna chuck it 30, 35 times per game.
37:4732 and a half touchdowns is appealing as well
37:50because now with those added weapons
37:52and the ability for Isaiah Pacheco
37:54coming out of the backfield to catch passes,
37:56that's always an added attribute to that offense.
38:00So I like the passing yards
38:01and I like the passing touchdowns.
38:03The awards, I don't buy into as much.
38:06We know he's gonna be there,
38:07but when it comes down to the public and perception,
38:10that's where I back off.
38:11So I like the yards and I like the touchdowns this year
38:14because I think Marquise Brown
38:16has the potential to hit the ground running.
38:18He could be that Tyreek Hill type of player
38:21playing with one of the best ever
38:22in terms of Patrick Holmes.
38:24He could be at least a 1,200 yard receiver this year.
38:28Yeah, it'll be interesting to see how those, you know,
38:30quarterbacks and receivers actually meld here.
38:32But the one thing that is interesting
38:33is I do see the starters are gonna play.
38:36You have that injury to Hollywood Brown.
38:37We don't know how long he's going to be out for,
38:39but it's not season ending.
38:40He should be back hopefully
38:41in the mid to later parts of September.
38:44But if you'd have a quarterback
38:45that can sort of, quote unquote,
38:46get by in the meantime,
38:47yeah, it's Patrick Holmes and Andy Reid.
38:49They'll certainly be ready for it, no doubt about it.
38:51If we do look at that MVP market,
38:53which I always get a kick out of this,
38:54and we just flashed the graphic up a short time ago,
38:57he's a five to one price to win the MVP for Mahomes.
38:59Obviously he's gonna be in the mix.
39:01We expect him to be one of the better football teams
39:03in the NFL, but to be the offensive player of the year,
39:06it's a 50 to one price.
39:08So you're telling me he's the best player in football,
39:10but he's 50 to one to win the offensive player of the year.
39:12Why do we still do this year
39:13with these type of award numbers here?
39:15That doesn't make any sense, Joe.
39:17No, it doesn't, and that's why what?
39:18Tyreek Gill was the front runner, wasn't Tyreek?
39:21At one point when he was close to 2000 yards,
39:24he was down to what, plus 350?
39:26At one point, we know that they give
39:28the offensive player of the year mostly to wide receivers
39:31and the MVP goes to the quarterback.
39:33So again, it comes down to perception.
39:35That's why I don't personally like betting those preseason
39:39because I'd rather take a shot mid-season
39:41once you can get a gauge about potential projection
39:44and trajectory over the second half of the season.
39:47But again, Pat Mahomes is the best player
39:49in the NFL, hands down.
39:51We saw the NFL 100 list come out
39:53and they put Tyreek Gill in terms of number one overall.
39:56That's a joke as well.
39:57Pat Mahomes has three Super Bowls.
40:01Yeah, no, you're right about that.
40:02If we're all looking at that MVP market,
40:03it is always about the quarterbacks.
40:05Quarterbacks that are 15 to one or less
40:08to win the MVP of the season.
40:09It's Lamar Jackson, Jordan Love, Jalen Hurts,
40:12Joe Burrows, CJ Stroud, Josh Allen, and Patrick Mahomes.
40:15If we take out Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen,
40:18who would get the nod for you?
40:20You know, I'm still a believer in Stafford.
40:23I'm still a believer in Jordan Love.
40:25You know, Jordan Love to me, he got his money,
40:28he has the weapons.
40:29And again, I believe in the Green Bay Packers.
40:31The way he elevated over the second half of the season,
40:34the average 270 passing yards per game,
40:37only four interceptions over the last eight or nine games,
40:40knocked off Kansas City, knocked off Detroit.
40:43And oh, by the way, pounded Dak Prescott
40:45and the Dallas Cowboys in the playoff game.
40:48I think Jordan Love has great odds.
40:51Yeah, it's interesting to see how it plays out
40:53because again, it takes a whole heck of a lot.
40:55Last year we saw, you know, Christian McCaffrey
40:56charging up those leaderboards to be an MVP,
40:58but it's so hard to knock the quarterbacks off.
41:01But again, you're talking about a dominant force
41:03in Kansas City with Andy Reid,
41:04maybe the best head coach we've ever seen in the NFL
41:07when it's all said and done.
41:08Patrick Mahomes is his quarterback
41:10and they open up on Thursday Night Football.
41:13And I'm sure the boys will be in studio for this one.
41:15The Kansas City Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens
41:18to start that season off.
41:19Can't wait for that to happen,
41:20but a lot more has to take place in the preseason.
41:23Let's talk more football next,
41:24right here on The Early Ride.
41:26Rolling on a Friday morning here.
41:28I mean, we are getting you ready for this weekend's action
41:30and also the upcoming NFL season.
41:32Can't get enough of it.
41:33And also, Offensive Rookie of the Year odds.
41:36It's on your right side, it's Joe Lisi.
41:37Who wins this or is it already done?
41:39Plus 135 price here on Caleb Williams.
41:42Jaden Daniels at a plus 550 price.
41:44Before we get to the first receiver,
41:46that's Marvin Harrison Jr. at a plus 750.
41:48Let's just start with the first two quarterbacks.
41:51Is there a legitimate chance?
41:52Because based on the price points here,
41:54technically there is,
41:55but there should be a runaway favorite with Williams.
41:57Does Daniels have a chance to steal that thunder
42:00from Caleb Williams this year, Joe?
42:02Yeah, absolutely, Donnie.
42:04And here's the thing,
42:05with Cliff Kingsbury at the helm calling the plays,
42:08he's going to have every opportunity running it.
42:10We saw it in terms of the preseason action
42:13against the New York Jets and throwing it.
42:14I think Jaden Daniels potentially has the best value
42:18from the quarterback position
42:19because they're going to put the football in his hands.
42:22They have a six and a half win total.
42:23Dan Quinn is a veteran head coach.
42:26He'll take care of the defense
42:27and allow Cliff Kingsbury to open it up with Jaden Daniels.
42:31And there's playmakers there.
42:32I am not a believer on Caleb Williams for two factors.
42:36One, I think number one,
42:37he still has a little bit of development
42:39in terms of reading certain types of coverage.
42:42I think he forces balls sometimes.
42:44And the other factor is Matt Iberflus.
42:46Matt Iberflus is a defensive-minded head coach.
42:49And even though he has the playmakers and weapons,
42:51he still wants to win football games 17 to 13
42:55as opposed to 40 to 20.
42:58But he's a superstar, Joe, hard knocks.
43:00And he's taken the nation by storm.
43:02You should love the fluff he's right now
43:03in the Chicago Bears entering into this season.
43:05I mean, they got the daughters, the wife out there,
43:08hyping him up.
43:09He's got the new beard.
43:09He's got the new haircut.
43:11He's getting the barber's chop.
43:12So yeah, look, changing that image up.
43:15If I asked you this question,
43:16let's remove the top two quarterbacks.
43:17It's Williams and Daniels.
43:18The next three on the odds market
43:20of the FanDuel Sportsbook are Marvin Harrison Jr.,
43:22Malik Neighbors, and Xavier Worthy, all wide receivers.
43:25If I gave you one bet,
43:27who is going to have the better season
43:29of those three wide receivers this year?
43:31I would say Malik Neighbors.
43:33And the reason why I say that is
43:34because I think he's the most polished
43:36out of all three of those guys.
43:38Not to take away from Marvin Harrison Jr.,
43:40he's that Calvin Johnson, big body type of player.
43:43But Malik Neighbors can get yards after the catch.
43:47He is that Tyreek Hill, home run type of hitter.
43:49And even though he might be playing with Daniel Jones
43:52or Drew Locke, I still think with Brian Dable's offense
43:55outside alongside Wandale Robinson,
43:57Malik Neighbors could have the best numbers
44:00out of all three of those guys.
44:01I want to buy into Xavier Worthy,
44:03but he could be like a Darius Tony 2.0
44:08in terms of your number one.
44:09So we have to see how that plays out.
44:11Suffered with drops at Texas.
44:12I will throw one name out for you.
44:14And he's not on that board,
44:15but Brock Bowers, playing with Gardner Minshew,
44:18has the potential, if he develops
44:21and they put him in early,
44:22he's a Travis Kelsey type of player.
44:24You might get him.
44:25I think he's 40 or 50 to one, Donnie.
44:29Yeah, how about this?
44:29Coleman's on that list too.
44:30McConkie's on the list a little bit later down.
44:32Drake made a 34 to one.
44:34Roma Dunes at a 41 price here,
44:36going over there to the Chicago Bears.
44:37It should be fun.
44:38There's a lot of talent on that list here.
44:40We'll see if Caleb certainly lives up to the hype.
44:42And if he does, maybe it equates in a Super Bowl run.
44:45They're pretty far down the list.
44:46We don't honestly think that's going to happen,
44:48but if it does, it'll be fun to watch.
44:50But the Super Bowl odds this year,
44:51coming into the season of the Fandu Sportsbook,
44:53list as follows.
44:54The Chiefs and the 49ers, Joe,
44:55tied up top at a six to one price,
44:57followed by the Ravens, Lions, Eagles, Texans,
45:00Bengals, Bills, Cowboys, and Packers.
45:02Are we going to see a Super Bowl repeat
45:05with the Niners and the Chiefs this year?
45:07I don't think so.
45:08I think the Chiefs have a better shot
45:10and it's not to take away from Kyle Shanahan
45:13and the 49ers.
45:14I know on paper they're the best team in terms of the NFC,
45:17but again, they haven't stepped up.
45:20That Super Bowl was ripe for the taking last year
45:23and they blew it in regards to the overtime game
45:25and that's going to carry with Kyle Shanahan.
45:28I think that pressure develops throughout the year.
45:31And I think one of these other teams do catch them.
45:33I think there's no doubt San Francisco makes the playoffs,
45:36but the Rams are getting better,
45:37especially on the defensive side of the ball.
45:39They can be live potentially to win the division as well.
45:43And I'm still buying into your Philadelphia Eagles, Donnie.
45:46I'm a buyer of Jalen Hurts.
45:47I'm a buyer of Sirianni.
45:49Now with the two new coordinators
45:51and what they were able to do in regards
45:53to the defensive back talent added on in the draft,
45:56I think they're going to be there for the NFC.
45:59Yeah, the one thing is we won't know how good that offense is
46:01even though they are cooking with grease in practice.
46:03Every beat writers love it.
46:04Exactly what Jalen Hurts is doing.
46:06I expect big things out of the offensive.
46:08Vic Fangio comes over to settle that defense down
46:11for the Eagles. Playing out,
46:12I think it'll be a pretty good season.
46:13The IS dubs this question too.
46:15I ask you the same thing, Joe.
46:16We look at the Texans at a 15 to 1 price.
46:18That's the team that's like, you know, on the rise.
46:21Last year, maybe bit off even more than they could chew.
46:24Win a division, win a playoff game.
46:26CJ Stroud's a rookie. The sky's the limit.
46:28Are we too fast too soon with the Texans at a 15 to 1 price?
46:31Or Joe, are they a legitimate contender here
46:34to get to a Super Bowl and possibly win it?
46:36I think they're a legitimate contender.
46:38And with the addition of Stephon Diggs,
46:40they're deserving of the 15 to 1 price.
46:42But again, we're talking about the division.
46:44Any one of those teams can come out of there
46:47and potentially challenge Jacksonville
46:48and Indianapolis respectively.
46:50So it's not going to be easy.
46:52I'm a buyer of CJ Stroud.
46:53But again, I wouldn't buy into them right now at 15 to 1.
46:57I think there's parity within the division.
46:59You might get a better shot, maybe 20, 22 to 1
47:02if they start off slow the way Cincinnati did last year.
47:06But I'm still a buyer of Joe Burrow.
47:07We're talking big picture in terms of outside of Kansas City.
47:11I'm not a buyer right now with Baltimore.
47:13Lamar Jackson, he needs to show me
47:15that he could do it in terms of the passing attack
47:17in a playoff game.
47:19But I'll take a shot.
47:20Joe Burrow at 7 to 1 with Tee Higgins coming back
47:24for one more run.
47:25I'm a buyer of Jamar Chase and what they were able to do
47:27in regards to the offensive line,
47:29I'll take a shot with Joe Burrow and the Bengals
47:31at 7 to 1, Donnie.
47:33We always like value too.
47:35And you're going to get some bangers right off the bat,
47:36which means the Chiefs and the Ravers are going to play.
47:386 to 1 and 10 to 1 here.
47:40Those numbers will change based on who wins that game.
47:42Same thing with the Eagles and the Green Bay Packers.
47:458 to 1 on the Packers, 13 to 1 on the Philadelphia Eagles.
47:48Sometimes you get some squirrely environments in week number 1,
47:50which includes playing in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
47:54So if the Eagles or the Packers lose,
47:56would you jump on them as an 0-1 team probably getting enough,
47:59like let's just say the Eagles drop to 15 or 16 to 1
48:02as value there?
48:04Yeah, absolutely, Donnie.
48:05That's what you wait for, right?
48:07We saw it with Kansas City losing to Detroit,
48:10right out of the gate, 21-20.
48:12Their value fluctuated right after the first week
48:15of the season.
48:15Same thing with the Bengals.
48:17Now, granted, it didn't play out for Joe Burrow,
48:19but they started out slow.
48:210-2, you get better value.
48:23So that's why it's easy to monitor the first couple
48:25of weeks of the regular season.
