00:00:31in an incredible six-man explosion as World Championship Wrestling presents Clash of

00:00:38the Champions.

00:00:44It's live in Norfolk.

00:00:46Hi everybody and welcome to Clash of the Champions.

00:00:51From the Stoke Coliseum in downtown Norfolk, Tony Schiavone, Jesse the Body Venturer.

00:00:55We've been waiting for this moment for a long time.

00:00:58Tonight in the ring, the return of Nature Boy Ric Flair.

00:01:01We've waited for the Nature Boy for a long time and tonight the Nature Boy returns but

00:01:05I also got a little sad note Tony Schiavone, the injury to Mr. Wonderful Paul Orndorff.

00:01:12Paul Orndorff will not be able to wrestle but will be at ringside.

00:01:16He will be at ringside as Dirty Dick Slater takes on Ron Simmons in what of course now

00:01:20is a non-title match but you know Simmons will get his shot sooner or later at that

00:01:25World Television title.

00:01:26Let's stop talking and start butting heads as we go to the ring.

00:01:31Ladies and gentlemen, the first contest of the Clash of the Champions.

00:01:37It is set for one fall.

00:01:39Introducing first, from Winter Robbins, Georgia, weighing 278 pounds, the All-American,

00:01:49Ron Simmons!

00:02:01They call him the All-American and certainly you can see the fans that he has here.

00:02:07As Ron comes down to his song that's available on the Slam Jam album,

00:02:12Don't Step to Ron, the former World Heavyweight Champion.

00:02:16Looking great, Jeff.

00:02:18He always looks great.

00:02:20Alright, Ron Simmons to begin things on the Clash of the Champions.

00:02:26Go ahead, Gary.

00:02:27And ladies and gentlemen, his opponent, accompanied by the World Television Champion, Mr. Wonderful

00:02:35Paul Orndorff, from Tampa, Florida, weighing 248 pounds, Dirty Dick Slater!

00:02:47Well, as Orndorff and Dick Slater make their way to the ring, already the fans are into

00:02:54the Paula chant.

00:02:55As you can see, they're not leaving the World Television Champion alone.

00:02:58Now, Orndorff suffered a groin injury, unable to compete here, and the fans are really on it.

00:03:04You know, and I don't understand it, Tony.

00:03:06Why?

00:03:07As hard a wrestler as Mr. Wonderful is, the chances he takes in that ring, of course he's

00:03:13susceptible to injury like any great athlete is.

00:03:17Mr. Wonderful with a groin pull.

00:03:19You'd think these people, I'm thinking for one minute, that Mr. Wonderful would duck Ron

00:03:24Simmons.

00:03:25No.

00:03:28They're just getting on him, and that's a name that Dustin Rhodes shot him.

00:03:33Now, Orndorff and-

00:03:34Dustin Rhodes and Tony Schiavone, you deserve a little credit for that too.

00:03:39I'll take no credit for that.

00:03:41And certainly, Derry Dick Slater, as a veteran, is going to prove to be a very, very rough

00:03:45and rugged match for the All-American Ron Simmons, who, until today, had prepared to

00:03:50go up to that World TV title, something that he's come very close on winning on many occasions.

00:03:55And here we go.

00:03:56Randy Anderson, the referee, back to the corner.

00:03:59Let's see if we get a-

00:04:01Whoa.

00:04:02And look at that.

00:04:03Simmons with a cheap shot out of the corner, Tony.

00:04:05Picks him up.

00:04:07You don't want to get caught in the corner close to Ron Simmons and that power.

00:04:11And now Slater backs away.

00:04:13Well, the referee called for a clean break there, and Simmons popped him.

00:04:17That's not like him.

00:04:20And look at the fans getting on Mr. Wonderful.

00:04:22It's even bothering Slater in the ring.

00:04:24Hey, the fans are pumped up here.

00:04:25Later on, they're going to see two out of three falls for the World Tag Team title.

00:04:29Flair and Orn together against the Hollywood Blondes and that gigantic six-man with Vader

00:04:33Sid Vicious and Ravishing Rick Roode, the Master of the Roode Awakening against Dustin

00:04:38Rhodes, Davey Boyce, Smith, and Sting still to come.

00:04:41But right now, we begin it.

00:04:42And Simmons on his feet.

00:04:48Again, the power of Simmons.

00:04:53Shoulder block, a cover.

00:04:55And out in two is Slater, and he rolls down to the floor.

00:05:00Slater, a smart move by the Wiley veteran.

00:05:02Things weren't going his way inside the ring.

00:05:04It was all going for the Florida State former football star, Ron Simmons.

00:05:09Dick Slater, smart enough to jump out to the floor, talk a little bit with Mr. Wonderful,

00:05:14and take some abuse from the fans here in Norfolk.

00:05:21Basically lost to Simmons on WCW Saturday night, but he lost after the 10-minute time

00:05:27limit ran out for the TV title, and Simmons did not get the World TV Championship.

00:05:31So that means he really didn't lose.

00:05:32Well, since that time, Orndorff has continued to get disqualified to keep that TV belt.

00:05:37That's one of those little clauses in there that really he uses to his advantage.

00:05:42Exactly.

00:05:42And that's the advantage you can use, Tony, when you're the champion.

00:05:46That's the out the champion gets.

00:05:48It's very simple.

00:05:49You're going to beat a champion.

00:05:50In the case of Mr. Wonderful, Paul Orndorff, you got to beat him in the first 10 minutes

00:05:54of the match.

00:05:55If it goes 10 minutes, 3 seconds, you don't get the TV title.

00:06:00It's that simple.

00:06:02And a lot of people are ornery over that.

00:06:04That's the rules.

00:06:05Ornery?

00:06:07Where'd you come up with that word?

00:06:09You've never heard of the word ornery?

00:06:10Not from you.

00:06:11Into the near side.

00:06:13Over the top.

00:06:15Oh, that time, a right hand side of the head.

00:06:18Boy, he slapped him.

00:06:20Oh, and look at Simmons coming in with the point of the boot and the closed fist.

00:06:26Sends him out of the corner, and Ron Simmons, three-point stance.

00:06:30Orndorff's got the leg.

00:06:31Oh, and there goes Slater on top of the head with a big clothesline.

00:06:35And I love that Orndorff, the veteran he is.

00:06:37Randy Anderson, the referee, saw nothing.

00:06:40He did not see Mr. Wonderful grab Simmons' leg.

00:06:46And that may be just the little edge that Dirty Dick Slater needed here, Tony.

00:06:56Right on the head.

00:07:00Into the midsection.

00:07:01Back of the neck.

00:07:02Boy, they are exchanging blows right and left.

00:07:05Here, clash of the champions.

00:07:11Simmons on the ropes.

00:07:16It's not over.

00:07:16The match is still going on, and they think it's over.

00:07:19They better turn around, especially Slater.

00:07:23And he did.

00:07:24And here we go again.

00:07:28Simmons taking command with the right hand.

00:07:30Slater drops in behind.

00:07:32Misses a clothesline.

00:07:34And Simmons gets him up and-

00:07:52As we begin Clash of the Champions with a tremendous win over Dick Slater.

00:07:58Subbing for the injured World Television Champion, Paul Lauderdale.

00:08:01Well, right here, you see Simmons backing into the rope,

00:08:04lining up for the big shoulder bucket.

00:08:06There's Mr. Wonderful.

00:08:07Grabs a little ankle right there.

00:08:09Little bit of defensive holding.

00:08:11Boom.

00:08:12And it allows Slater to come in with a big forearm and drop the former champion.

00:08:17But here's Ron Simmons later rebounding.

00:08:20Big power body slam.

00:08:22Drives Dirty Dick Slater into that mat.

00:08:24Hooks the leg.

00:08:25Legal press.

00:08:27Simmons wins it.

00:09:15You know, Two Cold Scorpio is an amazing athlete, Eric.

00:09:20He's got everything it takes.

00:09:22Barry Windham has one attribute this young man does not, and that's experience.

00:09:27Now, that reminds me of an old Polish proverb which translated basically says,

00:09:33as the young and the useless ride that wave of life to destiny,

00:09:37they realize they're merely a first class passenger on a ship of fools.

00:09:44Of course, we got the World Tag Team title match.

00:09:46I want to bring in the man that is going to be the guest ring announcer.

00:10:07I think the action here and the fans here, the fans are part of the action.

00:10:12The fans, especially right here at the Scope in Norfolk, Virginia.

00:10:14I've worked here before when Cornell Whitaker was here.

00:10:19All right, we talked a little bit about the NWA title match.

00:10:21I want to get your opinion on the World Tag Team title contest.

00:10:25You've got Ric Flair, Arn Anderson taking on the Hollywood Blondes.

00:10:29You've got the Hollywood Blondes.

00:10:30They're young.

00:10:31They've got speed.

00:10:32They've got strength.

00:10:33But I think I'm going to have to go with experience.

00:10:36You've got that wisdom, the power that the two men have.

00:10:39Arn Anderson, a legendary family.

00:10:41And you've got that nine-time world champion in Ric Flair.

00:11:34And ladies and gentlemen, his opponent, accompanied by Sir William from the Royal

00:11:41Forest of Dean, now residing in his summer home in the Tower of Blackpool, weighing 18

00:11:49stones, 2 pounds, Lord Stephen Regal.

00:11:59I love this guy, Shivani, Lord Stephen.

00:12:01Why?

00:12:01Because he turned his nose up at everyone?

00:12:03No, because he's got clean fingernails.

00:12:05That's hard to find in Virginia.

00:12:08Now, that was really cheap.

00:12:12As you take a look at the great Virginia crowd here on the coast of Virginia, and you

00:12:17take a look at Sir William.

00:12:19Look at those specs Sir William wears.

00:12:22Those are reed glasses.

00:12:27Lord Stephen came here to America, didn't let anybody know that he was

00:12:33blue blood.

00:12:34He wanted to see how the commoners lived.

00:12:57And our second matchup of the evening, Lord Stephen makes his first appearance

00:13:05Well, while we're waiting for him to hook up, Tony, you know,

00:13:07speaking of dirty fingernails in Virginia, I might add,

00:13:11this is your former home state where you were born, isn't it?

00:13:14It sure is.

00:13:15You're from a little town out in the hills.

00:13:17What is it, Podunk, Virginia?

00:13:18Craigsville, Virginia, Jesse, thank you.

00:13:21I thought it was Podunk.

00:13:27With Marcus Bagwell and Lord Stephen goes to the arm.

00:13:54Bagwell certainly up to the task.

00:13:55Bagwell and Too Cold certainly have to be one of the top contenders

00:14:00to the WCW World Tag Team title.

00:14:02Too Cold has been in Japan wrestling as of late,

00:14:05so they've been basically under singles competition.

00:14:08But now that Too Cold's back, got his shot at the NWA title,

00:14:10I know that down the road, there's sure going to be as a team.

00:14:14That depends.

00:14:15If Too Cold wins tonight, Bagwell's on his own.

00:14:18Well, now you're right.

00:14:19Look at that.

00:14:20Basically like a toehold maneuver, not really a drop toehold

00:14:23because he was already down.

00:14:24And Bagwell reverses.

00:14:26Nice reversal there by Marcus Alexander.

00:14:28Bagwell into a hammerlock and drives the knee into the fingers of Lord Steven.

00:15:29And right there, you can tell he don't know nothing about American football

00:15:36And Bagwell is in trouble.

00:15:38Regal, now after clipping the knee, going to the leg.

00:15:40But you got to remember something.

00:15:42Over in England, they don't play wimp games like football.

00:15:45They play rugby.

00:15:46That's football with no pads.

00:15:54Well, they're all, they got more pads on them than who knows what.

00:16:47Lord Steven will be back and I'll be talking to he and Sir William as well.

00:16:51And we'll continue our look for Cactus Jack.

00:16:55As you know, Catherine White has not been able to find Cactus Jack,

00:16:57but I understand she'll be going to Cleveland this week to try to find Cactus Jack.

00:17:01Well, she is one determined woman.

00:17:03She really is.

00:17:04Who would go to Cleveland at their own free will?

00:17:07We'll find out if she can locate the missing Cactus Jack this week on WCW Saturday night.

00:17:40And we knew that when he first came over here before he started holding his nose high in the air.

00:17:47Look at that beautiful drop toe hold right there with the legs

00:17:50right back to the knee after throwing in a couple of, as you said, European uppercuts.

00:17:56And you know, in my time to interview Lord Steven,

00:17:59I always have to talk to Sir William first because I've been told

00:18:02that you don't ask royalty questions.

00:18:04You only speak to blue blood and royalty when they speak to you first.

00:18:08Oh, great move by Bagwell.

00:18:12Bagwell still favoring that leg, but he is up to the task.

00:20:16And we are back at the Clash of the Champions, where in just a few minutes,

00:20:20we're going to see my guest Max Payne in the ring with Johnny B Mad,

00:20:24hopefully to end this controversy surrounding the Bad Blaster.

00:20:28But Max Payne, something you want to say?

00:20:29Hold on a second, Eric.

00:20:31Let's solve this controversy right now.

00:20:35You know, I've been in the lair and I've been thinking about it.

00:20:38And I thought about it a long, hard time.

00:20:41And I said to myself, Max Payne, there's only one thing to do.

00:20:46You know, I tried to teach Johnny B Bad a little respect.

00:20:50And that's all I wanted out of the deal, really, to be honest with you.

00:20:54So Johnny, if you'll come out here right now, I'll give you your Bad Blaster back.
