Showery outbreaks of rain continuing to drift northwards through this afternoon with some heavy pulses in places - especially across northern areas with a risk of thunder. Further south, mostly cloudy, however, given any brighter conditions, scattered, locally heavy showers may develop with a risk of thunder across parts of Wales and the Midlands. Warm and humid in any brighter conditions, particularly towards eastern England. This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the afternoon of 02/09/24. 00:00It's a higgledy-piggledy-mishmash kind of a weather day out there, torrential downpours
00:05in some locations, warm and humid conditions in others. This is the view from space. Huge
00:11area of clear skies out in the Atlantic, thanks to an area of high pressure here. But we've
00:16got low pressure and a real mess of weather fronts. All of it drifting up from the south,
00:22which is why we've got relatively warm and humid air across the UK, which is helping
00:26to generate some big thundery showers, north-east Scotland in particular, but also parts of
00:31the Midlands and central and eastern parts of Wales, and staying pretty soggy across
00:36western Scotland, north-west England too. There is a Met Office thunderstorm warning
00:40in place. Quite a broad area. Not everywhere in that warning area is going to catch a thunderstorm.
00:46As always, they are going to be hit and miss. But where they do occur, they are likely to
00:49cause some disruption. Much of the east Midlands and eastern England in general staying dry
00:55and brightening up here with some pretty warm sunshine. Temperatures getting up to
00:5923, 24, maybe 25, 26 in one or two places, feeling quite humid. Obviously, it's cooler
01:04further west where we've got more cloud, particularly with that persistent rain across parts of
01:08western Scotland. So, as I said, a real mishmash and continued threat of thundery showers into
01:15this evening. So, just pause it there for the evening rush hour. So, parts of east Wales,
01:20west Midlands up towards north-west England. We could see some thundery downpours here.
01:24So, parts of the M6. Not very pleasant. A lot of spray and surface water on the roads
01:29and a continued threat of heavy downpours also across northeast Scotland well into the
01:33evening. The warning runs until midnight tonight. But gradually through the evening, the risk
01:40of thundery showers drifts across northern England. But they should be fading by this
01:44stage. Many places will become dry through the night. Staying pretty cloudy across England
01:49and Wales. Staying pretty warm and humid too across these eastern parts. But further west
01:54fresher air is on the way. So, we'll be down to single figures across northern Ireland.
01:59Parts of western Scotland as well in rural spots down into single digits. On to Tuesday
02:05and it's still a mix of sunshine and showers. But generally, a brighter day for Wales, southwest
02:10England. Certainly, a much drier and sunnier day for eastern parts of Scotland compared
02:15to today. Western Scotland will see cloud and some showery rain along with northern
02:19Ireland. There is still the potential for some heavy slow-moving showers over the Midlands,
02:24East Anglia and the southeast. Again, hit and miss. But some places could catch a downpour
02:28here. And we're holding on to the warm and humid conditions here. But not as warm as
02:33today. We could still get to 22, maybe 23. But for most places, temperatures dipping
02:38off a fresher feel, much less humid for most during the course of tomorrow. And not a great
02:44little change through the evening. The heavy showers still potentially across the extreme
02:48southeast. A few more showers coming into Scotland and northern Ireland during Tuesday
02:54evening as things turn fresher as we head into Wednesday. What about the rest of the
02:59week? Well, to say the least, it's complicated. Aidan will have more on that. A full week
03:05ahead forecast. That will be available on our YouTube channel by Monday afternoon. So
03:09make sure you hit subscribe.
