00:00:00and so day two of the Rugby World Cup begins in beautiful fashion it's a
00:00:06marvelous day at Eden Park in Auckland as we look for two very interesting
00:00:10teams Romania and Zimbabwe and to describe this Rugby World Cup match we
00:00:15introduce our commentators today Brendan Topper and Graham Thorne
00:00:23well I don't imagine there are too many names in this Romanian side this
00:00:26afternoon that mean a great deal to us here in New Zealand but it's a very
00:00:29experienced side that the Romanian team have brought to New Zealand included in
00:00:34their side are a number of players three in fact that were in this New Zealand on
00:00:37the New Zealand tour back in 1975 and they probably will start this match as
00:00:46the favourites the Zimbabwean something of an unknown quantity and as we look
00:00:50around here at Eden Park the questionable wisdom of inviting 16
00:00:54teams to the World Cup means that many of these pool matches will attract
00:00:59only marginal public interest and alas this is one of these matches I imagine
00:01:02there's probably a crowd here of somewhere less than 2,000 people but it
00:01:05really is in a historic afternoon because in my memory and Graham Thorne
00:01:09might like to just to confirm this this is probably the first time ever in
00:01:11rugby in New Zealand where an international match has been played
00:01:14between two teams neither of which is New Zealand that's right Brendan but
00:01:18what a tremendous day it is and I'm sure the Romanians there sitting in a stand
00:01:22and there was Romanian not reserves but just the members of their squad sitting
00:01:28in front of Mr. John Dick and his wife but what a magnificent day it is Brendan
00:01:33and Eden Park in fact it is in perfect order I can't remember it looking so
00:01:40good it's a tribute to the groundsman Eddie Thorne and his ground staff you
00:01:46look at it now from the number eight stand or terraces it's really beautiful
00:01:52Brendan that's probably the first time that I've ever worked at a rugby match
00:01:57at Eden Park in short sleeves and an open-necked shirt it's so warm up here
00:02:00at the top of the stand so the Romanian side with a solid seam of experience a
00:02:06third of this team have over 40 caps each to their credit and interestingly
00:02:10enough all 15 players have played at least three internationals and the side
00:02:14will be captained by their 32 year old Bucharest halfback Padas Kip who was one
00:02:18of the two members in the side that toured New Zealand in 1975 the other was
00:02:22the first 5'8 Alexandru
00:02:27the Zimbabweans have taken a conservative approach to the naming of
00:02:34their side for this important match there is only one new cap in the team
00:02:37that's 23 year old right winger Peter Colbeck their pack is one kilogram per
00:02:42man heavier than the Romanians but slightly shorter in height they have
00:02:46apparently a dynamic number eight and 22 year old Mark Neal he's over 109
00:02:49kilograms at 17 stone and is the key man in their pack and the side will be
00:02:53captained by the halfback Malcolm Jellicoe
00:03:01Mircea Padas Kip from Bucharest captain of this Romanian side and a key figure
00:03:09also in the coaching of it I've noticed over the past few days a very passionate
00:03:14voluble fellow who really stamps his mark on the training sessions here you
00:03:19can hear him from a mile away and I'm sure our microphones down the two
00:03:22touchlines this afternoon will be hearing and capturing a lot of his voice
00:03:28very colorful site the Romanian rugby team back on the rugby playing turf of
00:03:33New Zealand after an absence of 12 years they made a big impression here when
00:03:36they were here in 1975 on an eight match tour a tour which will be best
00:03:41remembered for a meritorious 10 all draw they earned at Aptotic Park into the
00:03:45New Zealand junior side their rugby has been on a bit of a roller coaster since
00:03:51then they've had some very good wins but also some rather crashing defeats
00:03:56the Zimbabwe side doesn't seem to want to come out of the field they're in the
00:04:00all-black dressing sheet here they come now led by the skipper Jellicoe and also
00:04:07captaining the opposing side today is the halfback so the two captains today
00:04:11wearing the number nine jersey this is the Zimbabwean team their pack is
00:04:14slightly heavier than the Romanians but they concede a little bit of a height in
00:04:19the lineouts the two Romanian locks are a couple of inches taller than the two
00:04:23Zimbabwean locks but man for man they measure all pretty well so a very
00:04:30historic moment for these Zimbabwean rugby players their first ever appearance
00:04:33in New Zealand and I'm sure they are aware of the importance of doing well in
00:04:37this match this afternoon they know that for the development of their rugby they
00:04:40must play well to ensure that they will be at the next World Cup and I imagine
00:04:44they are 15 very tense young men down there on Eden Park at the moment
00:05:14Oh
00:05:44Oh
00:06:14Oh
00:06:44Oh
00:07:14Oh
00:07:44Oh
00:07:57very stirring national anthem there from the Romanians last time I heard that was
00:08:02at the Olympic Stadium at Los Angeles in 1984 at the Olympic Games and it's still
00:08:06a very vivid sound and image from it I was talking to the Zimbabwe coach Brian
00:08:13Murphy just before the game and said you're going to have a go at these guys
00:08:16in the backs and Brian said to me no Thorny we're going to take them on up
00:08:20front he reckons that they aren't as strong up front as people say so so it'll
00:08:26be an interesting battle because usually the African forwards are quite good
00:08:32there's a referee Steve Hilditch of Ireland in the strip of the World Cup
00:08:39referees they all wear the same strip and the youngest man on the field 19
00:08:44year old Craig Brown the Zimbabwe first five eight starts this World Cup match
00:08:51here at Eden Park the second match of this championship and that's an
00:08:54inauspicious start by the Zimbabweans out on the ball and immediately here the
00:09:01Radhesans grabbed the ball that went into touch they weren't going to be
00:09:05caught napping like the Italians yesterday the hooker Bray quickly got
00:09:09the ball the Zimbabwe side well if this tournament is a learning experience for
00:09:14some of these younger teams it's obvious that the Zimbabweans are learning
00:09:17already there's Craig Brown the man who made that rather nervous and tended to
00:09:21start to the match he's only 19 years of age so it's understandable if he's
00:09:25sensing a few butterflies in his stomach at the moment it's the biggest day in
00:09:28the long history of Zimbabwe rugby they've been playing rugby in that
00:09:31country since just before the turn of the century
00:09:35let's have a look at these scrums that's a good scrum by the Romanians
00:09:38Padascaf Raducanu at the back of a scrum for Romania going down over the
00:09:46ball Romanian forwards have been penalized and a defensive team leader
00:09:50Zimbabwe and it'll be Brown again from almost an identical spot to where he
00:09:55started the match to kick once again for touch
00:10:01and this time he has he's done quite the opposite he's failed to find touch
00:10:05but I think in the course of the tackle Marin Alexandru Marin stepped in to
00:10:09touch just outside the 22 so credit after all to Craig Brown he's brought
00:10:13his side deep down in to the Romanian 22
00:10:19and there's ball there for the Romanian Brown and a slightly misdirected kick
00:10:31which is skewed off the side of his boot it's coming down in the middle of the
00:10:33field the Romanians have it ten meters out from their 22 Padascaf looking
00:10:37for Dimitru it's a very good kick from this very experienced first 5-8 or fly
00:10:48half in the Romanian side Dimitru Alexandru he along with the halfback
00:10:53the man inside of him Padascaf were both members of the Romanian team in New
00:10:56Zealand in 75 in between them they have 99 international caps in fact it's
00:11:04probably the most experienced inside combination here at this World Cup
00:11:09Marin coming in from the right wing some innovation from the Romanians early
00:11:18in the match
00:11:24always not forward so we come back to the scrum midway 22 and halfway
00:11:33these two teams who do know something about each other they played each other
00:11:42a couple of times over the last five years they met in a two-match series in
00:11:45Zimbabwe a couple of years ago both were won in high-scoring matches by the
00:11:49Romanians it's an awful pass and Vasily David comes in from the left
00:11:54center to Marin who's seeing a lot of ball on the right wing back inside the
00:11:57Moraru midway 22 and halfway it's there again for Padascaf Dimitru
00:12:01Alexandru it's a very good tackle by Zimbabwe on David but he manages to walk
00:12:07away from it Vasily David
00:12:18a good set up by the Romanians there the ball going down Moraru just put the
00:12:23ball down they went right over it and then the ball went out to the left
00:12:31another good scrum by the Romani that's a bit of pass from Padascaf he misses
00:12:44out the Vytautas up from fullback that pass looked forward
00:12:51it was Vytautas who was trying to place the ball ahead of the defender so it
00:12:56meant that he had to drift the ball forward
00:13:01Marin looks that he's in trouble yes it looked like he could have pulled a
00:13:04hamstring actually he looks as if he's done it like a trotter there on the
00:13:10right leg but he put the the gas on on the right Marin and I think it just went
00:13:15he's pointing to it now but good play by the Romanians to get the ball and it was
00:13:24Tuareg that came into the back line and see the way that Ferreira comes in and
00:13:28the way that it's taken there by Marin and about there there it is it went you
00:13:32can see it in action and he knew exactly what he'd done and he is not enjoying it
00:13:37at all a very unfortunate start for Alexandra Marin a 29 year old ship from
00:13:45the province of Graviti in Romania
00:13:53he's hoping his ambax can cook up something to get his leg functioning a
00:13:57little better or that hamstring with a bit of flexibility into it because he
00:14:01doesn't look very well at the moment I think when they go you usually go off as
00:14:06well and Paraskeet who's anxiously signaling to the grandstand and that
00:14:12sadly could be the end of the World Cup campaign certainly as far as this match
00:14:17is concerned for Marin
00:14:28so the Romanians at the moment were just the 13 men on the field and this is
00:14:32Liviu Hortoca who will come on and replace Marin on the right wing
00:14:41and the prop forward Bacan has been penalized there by the referee Mr.
00:14:45Hildic for collapsing that scrum and Brown will kick the touch again the
00:14:51Romanians are sparkling in the sunshine here they do have a reputation rightly
00:14:55or wrongly as being fairly doer practitioners of the art of rugby but
00:14:58what we've seen of them so far has been positively sparkling there's no excuses
00:15:05today Bregman as I keep saying the ground is in perfect condition for rugby
00:15:10football Radu Kanna the tallest man in the Romanian team he's the number eight
00:15:15who takes his place in the middle of the lineup he's been winning good ball for
00:15:18them so far Alexandre fails to find touch Andy Ferreri the Zimbabwean
00:15:23fullback and they're going to run it as well
00:15:26good kicker hit by Graham
00:15:30this is good stuff here callback there's some support here callback to Zimbabwe
00:15:34in the first try of the match
00:15:36yes
00:15:38superb counter-rugby from the Zimbabweans
00:15:40it started from the misdirected kick remember
00:15:42from their fullback Andy Ferreri
00:15:44and right against the line of play
00:15:46the Zimbabweans have stunned the Romanians
00:15:48the favourite for this match
00:15:50and are ahead by four points to nil
00:15:52started from the misdirected kick remember
00:15:54it came to the fullback Ferreri
00:15:56and the new man on the Zimbabwe side this afternoon
00:15:58Paul Callback playing on the right wing
00:16:00took the kick ahead
00:16:02and he chased it hard
00:16:04there was some confusion in the Romanian defence
00:16:06the bounce wasn't kind
00:16:08Callback followed up
00:16:10and Richard Zimba this young man playing at right centre
00:16:12for Zimbabwe this afternoon
00:16:14was too fast in his sprint to the goal line
00:16:16and scores the first points of the match
00:16:18the wonderful thing about rugby football
00:16:20is that you always follow up
00:16:22and that was a pretty terrible kick
00:16:24but a ball, a rugby ball is not round
00:16:26and that's what made the point
00:16:28it looked like it could have been suspect there
00:16:30but he came through
00:16:32and there was a try coming up to Zimba
00:16:34and there was a try coming up to Zimba
00:17:04test rugby
00:17:06but Steve Hilditch saw that
00:17:08that actually as Phillip Leach would say
00:17:10a false start
00:17:14he was watching the replay
00:17:16there he came back
00:17:18someone just to the right
00:17:28so after eight minutes of play in this match
00:17:30the Zimbabweans and I suppose this might be
00:17:32a good time to remind Graham Thorne of the prediction
00:17:34he made before the match
00:17:36that the Romanians have won this game by 35 points
00:17:38well it's early days yet
00:17:40but what a great start by the Zimbabwe team
00:17:42and it's all going right for them at the moment
00:17:44and Ferreira even has a second shot
00:17:46at trying to convert this try
00:17:54well perhaps he needs a third attempt
00:17:56he's getting closer
00:17:58but you don't even get one point for that
00:18:00it's a 4-0 in favour of the Zimbabwe
00:18:10this is the new man
00:18:12Liviu Hortorca
00:18:14also an experienced international player
00:18:16coming onto the right wing for Romania
00:18:20Florio Maradius hits up a nice ball
00:18:22again for Alexandru
00:18:24and a poorly misdirected kick
00:18:26at goal from a drop goal by Alexandru
00:18:28and he's going to have to watch his kicking
00:18:30because it was a misdirected kick that gave away that first try
00:18:32this is Alexandru Lungu
00:18:34on the left wing for Romania
00:18:36putting pressure on Ferreira
00:18:38well taken by Andy Ferreira
00:18:42Andy Ferreira
00:18:44interesting fellow at fullback for the Zimbabweans
00:18:46this afternoon, he's a professional tennis player
00:18:48so in fact sport is his life
00:18:50in fact he's got no great pedigree
00:18:52in the game of tennis itself
00:18:54but is a keen
00:18:56and ardent student of the game
00:18:58and took the Zimbabwean National School Boys
00:19:00out to Germany last year
00:19:02and when he has some playing tennis
00:19:04he's involved with rugby
00:19:06and there's Ferreira in the play again
00:19:08now playing as half
00:19:10dummy halfback, in fact he is
00:19:12the second string halfback in the side as well
00:19:14short stocky fellow
00:19:16but it's Paraschup again
00:19:20Stefan Constantin, number 5
00:19:22the lock forward for Romania
00:19:24make a few feet up towards the 22
00:19:26but the whistle had gone
00:19:28so the match has been played at a brisk pace
00:19:30it's been 10 minutes old
00:19:32and for the small
00:19:34crowd that are here
00:19:36I'm sure they're certainly enjoying what they've seen so far
00:19:38it is a pity there's
00:19:40not more people here Brendan
00:19:42because it could be a very good game
00:19:44in fact it's the only test match I think I've
00:19:46ever attended that I could actually count
00:19:48the spectators in the test match and not be far out
00:19:54Raducanu controlling it again
00:19:56it's picked up by Dimitras
00:20:02these very good loose forwards for Zimbabwe
00:20:04are winning a lot of ball from the loose
00:20:06and again they managed to disrupt
00:20:08sufficiently that Romanian sprung
00:20:12and profited by 50 metres from it
00:20:18this of course will be the biggest moment
00:20:20of the match
00:20:22this of course will be the biggest moment
00:20:24of all for Zimbabwe
00:20:26a place in the World Cup
00:20:28a lot of people said they shouldn't be here
00:20:30I know talking to Colin Meads
00:20:32he was adamant they shouldn't be here
00:20:38but he's taken in a very heavy tackle
00:20:40just outside his 22
00:20:42so the Romanians
00:20:44willing to run it from inside their 22
00:20:46which is not what we would have expected
00:20:48and Neal
00:20:50who clearly was offside there
00:20:52Mark Neal a big blonde number 8
00:20:54for Zimbabwe
00:20:58there he is
00:21:00just to the right of your picture there Mark Neal
00:21:02109 kilograms
00:21:04there wouldn't be too many number 8s in world rugby
00:21:06that would weigh in 17 and a half stone
00:21:08that's a huge kick from the little man
00:21:10Alexandru
00:21:18to show that it's not how big you are
00:21:20when it comes to kicking a football
00:21:22it's like swinging a golf club
00:21:24it's all to do with timing
00:21:26there he is
00:21:28Mark Neal who's the key man in the Zimbabwe pack
00:21:30he's the tallest and heaviest
00:21:32but it surprises me that he's languishing
00:21:34at the back of the line out
00:21:36I thought he might have been better used in the middle of the line out
00:21:38where the Romanians are getting quite a lot of ball
00:21:40there he is
00:21:46the Romanians are actually jumping with
00:21:48Raducanu in the middle
00:21:50well that's right
00:21:52it's interesting that both these packs
00:21:54the two tallest men are both the number 8s
00:21:56well there we see Neal going up
00:21:58but they seem to come off his hand
00:22:00and if anything he knocked it forward
00:22:02and it's the Romanians that have it
00:22:04Alexandru with a little kick over the top
00:22:06and again Andre Ferreri
00:22:09and he undid some of his good work
00:22:11by putting the ball into touch on the foot
00:22:13but he saw the kick coming
00:22:15from Alexandru and he positioned himself well
00:22:17for the catch
00:22:31Emilien Grigore with the throw
00:22:35Fortua to slip bounces in the arms
00:22:37for Jellicoe
00:22:39Brown and Zimba with the dummy
00:22:41looking for support, finds it in the form of Jellicoe
00:22:45lost forward by Jellicoe
00:22:47but the referee by the look of it
00:22:49playing advantage, no he's coming back for the scrum
00:22:55notice these northern hemisphere referees
00:22:57aren't quite so
00:23:01schooled in the art of using their hands for the signals
00:23:03and there was no indication there that he was playing
00:23:05the advantage other than the fact that he let the game continue
00:23:09you would have seen a New Zealand referee
00:23:11signalling right from the moment of the imprint
00:23:13Paraske and there's support here
00:23:15Raducanu but the pass was forward
00:23:19That's two tries that have been
00:23:21thrown away by Romania
00:23:23through four passes
00:23:25very difficult to say who's in the wrong
00:23:27I think it's the man always supporting
00:23:29that should be behind the man with the ball
00:23:31or do you say the ball carrier should not pass
00:23:33six of one or half a dozen of the other
00:23:35I presume
00:23:3714 minutes of this match
00:23:39and the lapsed here at Eden Park
00:23:41and Zimbabwe
00:23:43against predictions are leading by four points to nil
00:23:45right
00:24:01Angelica does well to clear that
00:24:03to Graham at second five eight
00:24:05gets away from Krofan
00:24:07looking for some support
00:24:09couldn't quite get the pass to Zimba
00:24:11but knocked forward I think
00:24:13the referee has allowed
00:24:15play to continue
00:24:17with his first
00:24:19touch of the ball
00:24:21and the Romanians look
00:24:23a little rattled
00:24:25and there is big gaps in their defence here at the moment
00:24:31and the Zimbabweans putting pressure
00:24:33again on the Romanians, this is where they want it
00:24:35Etoina goes in
00:24:37and a speculator from Alexandria, that's not going to help
00:24:39his team's fortunes much as they're really
00:24:41back foot now
00:24:43Hodorka only a couple of metres from his own line
00:24:45and really the Romanians
00:24:47are going to have to tighten up if they want to do
00:24:49any better than that in this match
00:24:51Hodorka
00:24:53actually threw the ball into touch then
00:24:55and the Romanians are really firing
00:24:57and as you say Brendan, my prediction
00:24:59might leave a lot of ego in my face
00:25:01well it's the
00:25:03Zimbabweans
00:25:05with Zap and the Romanians
00:25:07look rattled at the moment
00:25:11and
00:25:15coming in on the wrong side
00:25:17the Romanians receive a defensive penalty
00:25:19which they will be
00:25:21and
00:25:37and Eric Barrett
00:25:39takes the short throw
00:25:41in to Malcolm Sawyer
00:25:43travelled five metres
00:25:45so it's a legal line up
00:25:47good play here
00:25:49by the Zimbabweans again
00:25:51Brown having a little jab on his own
00:25:53almost up to the 22
00:25:57this is very good play indeed by Zimbabwe
00:25:59Barrett to Brown again
00:26:01back inside to Barrett
00:26:03Eric Barrett on the left wing
00:26:05inside the Romanian 22
00:26:13and there's only one team in this match
00:26:15at the moment
00:26:17and there goes Big Mark Neal
00:26:19and that try really had to come
00:26:21it's been brewing for the last
00:26:23four or five minutes
00:26:25and he used every ounce
00:26:27of his 17 stone bolt
00:26:29to bullock his way over for the last
00:26:31few metres of the try
00:26:33Zimbabwe ahead by eight points to nil
00:26:35and after constant pressure
00:26:37the pass
00:26:39eventually came back
00:26:41to Neal from the loose ball
00:26:43Neal who was on hand
00:26:45picked up the ball
00:26:47and with sheer brute force
00:26:49he went through the tackle of Twyda
00:26:51and stretched out a big right arm
00:26:53to get the try
00:26:55and Zimbabwe really playing above themselves
00:26:57at the moment
00:26:59there's Jellicoe there picking the ball up
00:27:01and then the big Zimbabwean forward Neal
00:27:03just picked it up
00:27:05and there's no way anyone's going to stop him
00:27:07look he stretches out his arm for the try
00:27:0922 year old Mark Neal
00:27:11made his debut this year in 1987
00:27:13and here he is again
00:27:17a human tank virtually
00:27:27Ferreira
00:27:2910 metres in from touch
00:27:31trying to make it 10 nil
00:27:33but he struck that very poorly
00:27:35so three shots at goal
00:27:37for Ferreira today
00:27:39and he's missed them all
00:27:41but the Zimbabweans
00:27:43in the throes of pulling off
00:27:45a real surprise here
00:27:47ahead by eight points to nil
00:27:49and perhaps more significantly than that
00:27:51they're ahead by two tries to nil
00:27:53and we've had 18 minutes of play
00:27:55in the first half
00:27:57when you think Brendan
00:27:59they've only got seven teams to actually pick from
00:28:01they are playing fantastic rugby Zimbabwe
00:28:07not forward and so we come back for the scrum
00:28:09now this must be
00:28:11there may well be a sense of deja vu
00:28:13descending on this Romanian side
00:28:15they might think they're back in Dublin at the moment
00:28:17where they were six months ago
00:28:19for the most shattering moment in their rugby history
00:28:21when they were beaten 60 nil by Ida
00:28:23but at the moment they look completely bewildered out there
00:28:25there is no cohesiveness
00:28:27there is no unity
00:28:29there is no purpose at all to their play
00:28:31Toira up from fullback
00:28:33and again the pass is astray
00:28:35and scooping up the loose ball
00:28:37away go the Zimbabweans again
00:28:39here's the big man nil
00:28:41and they just have the momentum
00:28:43going for them at the moment
00:28:45Zimbabwe they're on off the crest of a wave
00:28:47and it's going to be very hard
00:28:49I think for the Romanians to break out
00:28:51of this cycle at the moment
00:29:04superb take
00:29:06from Cristian Raducanu
00:29:08the Romanian number 8 in the middle of the line-up
00:29:10he acts also as their
00:29:12chief line-up jumper
00:29:16better stuff from the Romanian forwards
00:29:18the little dummy
00:29:20from Alexandru Tothan
00:29:22but still the mistakes
00:29:24coming from this Romanian back line
00:29:26and away once again comes Zimbabwe
00:29:28Ferreira
00:29:30chases on back there is Otoca
00:29:33and it wasn't a terribly wise thing to do
00:29:35for Otoca as he speculated with his foot
00:29:37if he'd missed it the line would have been open
00:29:39I don't think he's got the biggest heart
00:29:41in the business, Brendan
00:29:43there's a quick throw-in though by Radica
00:29:45coming by Zimbabwe
00:29:47and away comes Domitrias
00:29:49for Romania up to the 10m line
00:29:51tries to find his
00:29:53outside centre, Tothan
00:29:55Moradiu, Paraskei
00:29:57Otoca up to half way
00:29:59that tackle
00:30:01looked as if it might have been a little late
00:30:03but the referee
00:30:05has ruled that it was in fact
00:30:07legitimate, or has he? I think he's given them
00:30:09in fact the option for the penalty or the scrum
00:30:11for that late tackle on Otoca
00:30:19and a chance here now
00:30:21for the Romanians from this
00:30:23penalty that has resulted for that late tackle
00:30:25to put some points on the board
00:30:27and this is Otoca who
00:30:29came on for a replacement
00:30:31who in turn now has suffered
00:30:33from what looks like a fairly nasty
00:30:35blow to his ribcage after that tackle
00:30:37here's
00:30:39Otoca going along the
00:30:41sideline and see the way he kicks
00:30:43and that was very late by
00:30:45Mr Neil
00:30:49so Otoca is
00:30:51in sort of great pain
00:30:59the Romanian coach
00:31:01and doctor
00:31:03the Romanian
00:31:05baggage man there as well but
00:31:07Otoca looks as if he
00:31:09in fact has recovered his breath
00:31:11he might have been just winded more than anything but yes
00:31:13his ribs I imagine are feeling a little sore
00:31:15at the moment but he will continue
00:31:19important kick here
00:31:21for
00:31:23Dimitri Alexandru
00:31:25from about 35 metres
00:31:29yes
00:31:31he stuck that well
00:31:33and so after 21 minutes of play
00:31:35Romania post their first points
00:31:37here at the World Cup a penalty to their
00:31:39fly half Dimitri Alexandru
00:31:41and it's 8 points to 3
00:31:45and that's what Romania wanted
00:31:47to get on the board because they have been playing
00:31:49like a team of schoolboys
00:31:51they don't seem to have
00:31:53any combination whatsoever
00:31:55perhaps there's no communication in their side
00:31:57no backing up nothing
00:31:59they've got to settle down now and realise
00:32:01that ok they've got
00:32:0319 minutes to go in the
00:32:05first half so the game's a quarter over
00:32:11Alexandru from just outside his own goal line
00:32:13and he really does have a huge
00:32:15punt on him this lad
00:32:17it's a massive kick
00:32:19it's a kick that Roger Gould would have been
00:32:21eminently proud of
00:32:24the Romanians have
00:32:26certainly trained very well here in Auckland
00:32:28this week they've settled down well
00:32:30staying at a very nice beachside
00:32:32motel in Takapuna
00:32:34and they've thoroughly enjoyed the week they've been here
00:32:36and they've trained long and hard but they just
00:32:38perhaps they're still suffering from nerves out there
00:32:42and rattled by that early try of course
00:32:44it's always harder then to settle down
00:32:46when you're coming from behind
00:32:48you do concede an early try
00:32:50but that penalty
00:32:52penalty goal might have just been the
00:32:54fillip they needed
00:32:56they are a very good
00:32:58international side as their record
00:33:00does show but they just can't seem to
00:33:02get things together at the moment and there's another
00:33:04pass that's gone astray
00:33:08they had some marvellous results
00:33:10in the early 1980s they beat France
00:33:12they beat Scotland they beat Wales
00:33:14then during a tour of England in 1984
00:33:1685 their rugby started to go wrong
00:33:18and a string of embarrassing defeats
00:33:20followed they were beaten by places like Tunisia
00:33:22and Russia and the Italians beat them as well
00:33:24and then the most shattering blow
00:33:26of all that 60 mil hiding to the Irishman
00:33:28in October of last year since then
00:33:30they've only played one international
00:33:32that was against Italy who they beat 9 points
00:33:34to 3 but in light of what happened to the Italians
00:33:36yesterday I don't imagine we can
00:33:38attach much importance to that win
