00:00:00And the Sports Network.
00:00:08The 1995 Rugby World Cup is brought to you by Castrol,
00:00:12manufacturers of Castrol GTX, the oil engineered for greater protection against breakdown.
00:00:19By Labatt, good things brewing.
00:00:23And by Adidas, the brand with the three stripes.
00:00:31Welcome back to TSN's exclusive coverage of World Cup 95 from Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
00:00:37The Canadian side coming on to the pitch with the Romanian side getting set for their match today at Boat Erasmus Stadium.
00:00:46Boy, this is a huge, huge day for the Canadian rugby program.
00:00:50No question about that, Gino. We have a lot of experience in the lineup.
00:00:53Several of these players have played in both the 87 and 91 World Cups.
00:00:57We're looking at Gareth Reese. He's got the troops ready to go.
00:01:00And I'm sure Canada can sneak out a win today.
00:01:03Very fancy uniforms there. One of our commentators today, Nick Farr-Jones,
00:01:07is a man who is well admired throughout the world, throughout the rugby community.
00:01:11He captained the Wallabies to the 91 World Cup Championship.
00:01:15And after the Wallabies' performance yesterday, I'm sure coach Bob Dwyer is trying to get him back down to Cape Town.
00:01:20But he's a terrific announcer and I'm looking forward to his comments this afternoon in Port Elizabeth.
00:01:26Canada, Romania making their debut at World Cup 95 in South Africa.
00:01:31Let's now join our New Zealand TV commentators, David Fordham, Nick Farr-Jones and Simon Poidman.
00:01:57Just a word for our players, if they could please line up for the playing of the National Anthems.
00:02:01We will have the Canadian National Anthem first, followed by the Romanian National Anthem.

00:25:01The Canadian back row took Scrum half
00:25:05Niagara right out of play there
00:25:07and a quick flat ball
00:25:09to Canadian full back Scott Stewart
00:25:11Didn't he hit it hard and flat Simon, right in front of you
00:25:13The Canadians really picked the pace up here
00:25:15and Stewart did hit it particularly hard
00:25:17Also Ian Gordon carried the ball on very well
00:25:21The infant player is Roger Leonte
00:25:24The veteran prop
00:25:31A big fellow in his third World Cup
00:25:34and Stewart really did hit this well down the short side
00:25:46Just watching the finishing
00:25:49the replay of that terrific break by Stewart down the short side
00:25:52the entry to Guernigue Leonte
00:26:00and it appears that he may be going off the field
00:26:02it appears that one of the players has called for the stretcher
00:26:05but he's a pretty tough boy Leonte
00:26:07he will not want to go off
00:26:10You've played 54 tests for your country
00:26:12you've got to be reasonably tough in that front row
00:26:15Yes, he played on the tight head position
00:26:17during the 1991 World Cup against Canada
00:26:21He's the second most capped player of all time in Romanian football
00:26:25Now Colin McKenzie sets it up again for Canada
00:26:30Now they work on the short side, threes
00:26:37and again referee Colin Hawke intervenes
00:26:40as Canada try to mount another challenge
00:26:45There's certainly some scrappy play there by Canada
00:26:48but Romania are getting right in there amongst them in the rucks
00:26:51infiltrating and not allowing Canada
00:26:54to construct any rucks and mauls
00:26:59So again the entry in the Romanian ranks
00:27:05Look at that, look at the Romanian Simon
00:27:07right in there amongst them, just flying in there
00:27:09they don't have much care for their bodies
00:27:12And the man on the bottom was Ionel Nagreci
00:27:15the young 24 year old hooker from Canada, from Romania
00:27:19The Canadians are very lucky to get away with that
00:27:21Under the new rules that I think apply at this World Cup
00:27:25the Canadian player on the stationary stomp
00:27:28could have been sent off very easily
00:27:35So once again an opportunity for Canada
00:27:40They try to work the back row move
00:27:42Draft, well wrapped up by Colcheriou
00:27:48Tepe's getting a bit flared
00:27:51A try, Rod Snow
00:27:55Scores his first try in just his second international
00:28:00And that's a fine try for Canada
00:28:02Look at Rod Snow, we've had a few prop scoring tries today
00:28:05Day 2 of Rugby World Cup
00:28:07but it all came from the scrum
00:28:09Canada again a very well constructed back row move
00:28:12going the unconventional way down the left
00:28:14Taking out players, they constructed this small
00:28:17Drove it forward and look it rolled off on the left
00:28:19Rod Snow breaking free
00:28:21Romanian full back Salamia
00:28:24Very little chance against the big snow
00:28:26Well Simon he's an old flanker so you'd probably enjoy this
00:28:29Good to see flankers getting across there
00:28:31John Graff providing very good direction for the Canadian forward pack
00:28:35He's really got them up a few gears the last 5 minutes
00:28:39And it's been a big dent on the Romanian defence
00:28:45So Gareth Rees, Canada's most prolific point scorer
00:28:50234 test points
00:28:55But he won't add to that tally because he's pulled to the left
00:28:58But Canada leads
00:29:00Newfoundland's Rod Snow with the biggest try of his career
00:29:04Canada leads 5-0
00:29:09I'm sure this is a genuine party pack
00:29:12This, this is a bird
00:29:15Open up a case on the Bad Genuine Draft and presto
00:29:18A one track CD single
00:29:19You could get Heart, George Thorogood, Green Jelly or The Cult
00:29:24Cue the announcer
00:29:25OK Joel, pick up a genuine party CD pack and get a one track CD single
00:29:28Plus a chance to win full length CDs
00:29:30Or call 1-800-668-3384 toll free for no purchase entry
00:29:33Cool
00:29:34Keep dancing
00:29:35Oh dear, did you not buy a case?
00:29:39Gareth Rees just banging the ball out
00:29:43About the same position as the ball was
00:29:45Forwards do all the hard work
00:29:47But no gain
00:29:48For the life of me in those sort of situations
00:29:50I can't understand why a fly half would stand 15 metres back
00:29:55Goes back 15, then he's got to bang it
00:29:57Back downfield the 15
00:29:59Why not stand just 7 or 8?
00:30:03So at the halfway mark, first half
00:30:05Canada lead by 5-0
00:30:08Simon, it seems like a well practised move from Romania now
00:30:11They've tried that twice around the front
00:30:13The Canadian hooker being taken out of play
00:30:15Eero Jans came around off that ball twice
00:30:19It's been very, very successful
00:30:20It's a move used by Sydney clubs a lot
00:30:23And it's been successful for the Romanians here
00:30:27It appears that Eddie Evans may be in a bit of trouble here
00:30:39Yeah, well, I think it is Eddie Evans here
00:30:42Most capped prop playing in his third World Cup
00:30:45It's a bit of a tragic blow for Canada
00:30:52And it appears just testing, feeling in that right arm
00:30:57It's Mike James, the second row forward in fact
00:31:01And it appears that maybe a dislocation
00:31:06Or some problem with that shoulder
00:31:10It could be a nerve problem
00:31:11Seems not to have a lot of feeling
00:31:12Yeah, he's driven in very hard there
00:31:15The Romanian loose forward
00:31:17And oh, there, look, two bodies rolling over
00:31:19That doesn't do a lot of good for the shoulders
00:31:23Takes his place back in the Canadian line-out
00:31:27Again, the dominance of Romania in the line-out
00:31:39A bit of a rolling ball against the heavier Canadian pack
00:31:43But again, security is just a problem there
00:31:46They turn over possession again
00:31:47And Lapid, in fact, Winston Stanley puts it downfield
00:31:52Taken by Salumia
00:31:58Tap soccer style by Stewart, but then he knocks it on
00:32:03Well, the referee's got him for offside anyway
00:32:06You cannot advance forward if you're in front of the kicker
00:32:09And the Romanians, obviously, well in front of their kicker
00:32:12And they did move forward, so the scrum, well, it's the option of a free kick
00:32:16Where the offside infringement took place
00:32:17Or the scrum from where the kick took place
00:32:19And obviously, the Canadians go downfield
00:32:23Well, apparently, it seems Gareth Rollins, is it Simon warming up on the touchline?
00:32:28Yes, it is, David
00:32:31So maybe we're going to see Mike James come off in his 10th test match
00:32:38Now Graf
00:32:41Jalapu was there to wrap him up quickly in the number 7 jersey
00:32:46I'll tell you what, it's Lusharia cousin by mixing it, Nick
00:32:50He's a very aggressive number 8
00:32:52There's a number of them who are prepared to have a go there, David
00:32:55The forward clashes have been very strong indeed
00:32:58At times, they construct moles and rucks very well
00:33:01And at other times, it's very scrappy
00:33:03I think it's quite a sign of the emerging countries
00:33:05That, you know, they just seem to lack control at vital stages
00:33:09There, just a touch high, the Canadians coming on offside
00:33:13That's a scrum halves nightmare, those sort of guys
00:33:18So, Gareth Rees
00:33:22Unsuccessful with the conversion of the Rod Snow try
00:33:32Concentration plus
00:33:37Oh, that's drifted left again
00:33:41And hit away by Nikitian
00:33:43That's a tremendous touch finder
00:33:47Almost got me
00:33:52Nikitian, he obviously backs himself in kicking
00:33:54He had the easy option of putting it down as Canada short to a two-man line-out
00:33:58Watch for the big flankers
00:34:01Running off this
00:34:0327 minutes gone in the first half
00:34:06Taken forward by Glenn Ennis
00:34:10He played number 8 in both the 87 and the 91 World Cup
00:34:15Tonight's playing in the locked position
00:34:17And that's Ian Gordon, the flanker
00:34:21He's missed only two of Canada's last eight Test matches, Gordon
00:34:25He's become very much an integral part of the Canadian back row
00:34:29Which has seen one of their most seasoned campaigners, Gordie McKinnon, sit out tonight's match
00:34:36So, 5-0, Canada lead
00:34:45Gareth Rees
00:34:58And Gareth Rees, ball placed
00:35:0215 metres in from touch
00:35:05We'll be hoping for a third time lucky
00:35:09For further points for the Canadian team
00:35:15This time he's right on target
00:35:20So the first successful kick for the fly halves of either side
00:35:25And Gareth Rees puts Canada in the lead by 8 points to nil
00:35:30Gareth Rees, the skipper of the Canadian side, leads it
00:35:338-0, Canada over Romania
00:35:37Today's cars and trucks are more advanced than ever
00:35:40But there is a price
00:35:42Their harder working engines can wreak havoc on the motor oil
00:35:45Breaking it down almost immediately
00:35:47That's why Castrol GTX provides maximum protection against viscosity and thermal breakdown
00:35:52So use Castrol, or your harder working engine could make things hard on you
00:35:58Castrol GTX, engineered for greater protection against breakdown
00:36:03Look for Castrol's special NHL offer at these and other leading outlets
00:36:13Referee's got Canada for diving over the top
00:36:17But it's all very, very scrappy at the moment
00:36:20Simon, I think both teams are just so passionate
00:36:22This means so much to them, all the planning, all the preparation
00:36:25That they're committing some fairly cardinal sins
00:36:28Yeah, the ball is very slippery
00:36:30And the Canadians in particular are having problems with it
00:36:33But I will say that South Africa and Australia are going to face some pretty tough opposition from both these sides
00:36:39They have got size, ability, and a lot of spirit
00:36:44Now Nikitian, missed his two previous penalty attempts
00:36:50Third time lucky for Gareth Rees
00:36:54The Romanian fans will be hoping third time lucky for Nikolai Nikitian
00:37:00Great view of this kick
00:37:03Well, he's hooked it away again
00:37:06So vital points slip away for Romania, Nick
00:37:10Yeah, with under 10 minutes to go until half-time, David
00:37:13They can't afford that
00:37:14Eight behind, you really wouldn't want the Canadians to score again
00:37:17Of course, we've got just under 50 minutes to go
00:37:21In these sort of matches, points can be hard to come by
00:37:23Great play, great passion, Al Sharon
00:37:25Yeah, terrific commitment by Canada
00:37:27Now Graff
00:37:30With that sloppy play
00:37:33Now, Nikolai Nikitian
00:37:35Good run by the young hooker
00:37:39Solid defence by Canada midfield
00:37:41And they've lost the ball, Romania
00:37:44James got it away
00:37:46Stewart
00:37:48Ran off Christian Stewart's pass
00:37:50Now they've turned over possession
00:37:52Gautiniac was slammed to the ground
00:37:56And the ball knocked forward by Canada
00:38:01We have this Grand Prix to Romania
00:38:03Just inside Canada's end of the ground
00:38:07A couple of human missiles out there
00:38:09The way they launch themselves and attack
00:38:11There's the train up the top
00:38:13Corporate boxers
00:38:16Modern age of rugby
00:38:18Now, Gautiniac
00:38:21They're in 12
00:38:23They're in 12
00:38:27Simon, the forwards there coming from the scrum
00:38:29Literally having to run back 10 metres
00:38:31Such is the depth of the Romanian back line
00:38:34They're getting tackled 10 metres behind the scrum
00:38:37They're not getting across the advantage line too often
00:38:39And you're right, it's very frustrating for the Romanian forwards
00:38:42A little bit of precipitation starting to hit the ground now
00:38:45Some of the crowd moving for a bit of cover
00:38:47Has that been a training, Simon?
00:38:50Didn't catch that one, David
00:38:54Yes, the crowd started to take a bit of cover
00:38:58On the far side of this Buonarrosto Stadium
00:39:03As Gareth Rees just pumps it in behind
00:39:07Colcheriou on that far wing
00:39:14Great opportunity now for the Canadians
00:39:16Gareth Rees just controlling it
00:39:18Of course, that midfield scrum situation
00:39:21Gives him the opportunities of going either way
00:39:23Very difficult for the Romanian full-backs to know which side to stand
00:39:37Great leap at the front again by Ejokeru
00:39:42Pumped away by Neketian
00:39:45I'll tell you what, he trusts himself on that right boot
00:39:47It's very, very effective
00:39:51Into the final 10 minutes of the opening half
00:39:56Of this second match in Pool A
00:39:59The first match yesterday, of course, went South Africa's way
00:40:02By 27 points to 18 over Australia
00:40:14Nyaga
00:40:16Neketian
00:40:18Winston-Stanley
00:40:23Lacazette for Solomi
00:40:28And from just a foot inside his own 22
00:40:31Takes play about 6 metres inside Canada's territory
00:40:37Starting to wonder, David, how the Romanian number 12
00:40:40The inside centre, Gontiniac, must train
00:40:44Robert Guest practices running 40 metres, chasing kicks
00:40:48He's hardly put his hand on the ball so far in this first half
00:40:57Graf Rees
00:41:00And once again he turns the Romanian defence around
00:41:03That's Rotaru, did very well
00:41:07The tempers just starting to flare a little
00:41:10Break it up, Poito, you're only metres from it
00:41:14Don't tempt him, Nick
00:41:17Both flankers involved there
00:41:19Rotaru has got a lot of ability there on the wing number 14 for Romania
00:41:23He really has got some pace and an evasive ability
00:41:29The referee keeping a very good gap there
00:41:31At least 2-3 metres
00:41:34Slusharyuk
00:41:46Very close to half time here at the Bararasma Stadium
00:41:50Strum feed by Nyaga
00:41:56Off the back is Slusharyuk
00:41:58Nyaga
00:42:00Off the back is Slusharyuk
00:42:03Nikitian with the high ball
00:42:06Winston Stanley did well, it's a chance for Canada
00:42:09Step beautifully back on the inside
00:42:11Support is there but he took the tackle of Solomia
00:42:16Now Canada arrived to the breakdown, James
00:42:20James sets it again
00:42:21The clean out ball is there, Graf looking for a runner
00:42:24He's found Rees, he's wrapped up by Nikitian
00:42:27Good support play there by Ian Gordon
00:42:29Graf again with room to move, taken high by Solomia
00:42:35And not releasing
00:42:38And a penalty, all the good work is undone by Canada
00:42:41Certainly was good work, I think that's the most exciting passage of play in the first half
00:42:45Winston Stanley, can't he move?
00:42:48Yes, a very impressive debut against the USA last year
00:42:52And a subsequent defeat against France, Scotland and New Zealand
00:42:55This is his 6th Test match in Canadian colours
00:42:59But Simon, he showed a terrific clean pair of heels down that right hand side
00:43:03Yes, great catch and a lot of pace
00:43:05And he's willing to have a go too
00:43:07He took that ball into a bit of traffic
00:43:10Retained it, got it back, unfortunately they couldn't carry it on from there
00:43:13Well there's a clear message out there
00:43:15From what we've seen, the four wingers on the field can motor
00:43:18But Nik, we've hardly seen them grab the ball from set moves as yet
00:43:22Yes, it is a shame that both teams don't look to push the ball wider
00:43:26I'm talking to Ian Stewart, the former Canadian captain
00:43:30Until recent years during the wing, David
00:43:32He said to look out for Winston Stanley, one of the bright prospects
00:43:42Now they decide to move at this time, the short kick through
00:43:47Knocked back by Canada, Stanley knocks it forward
00:43:52And finally, play will come back
00:43:55Penalty for the late tackle on one of the Romanians
00:43:59I think it is, he said, a three-quarter
00:44:01Nicolae Racian
00:44:04He chipped ahead and was taken out by one of the Canadians
00:44:08In a late tackle
00:44:10And 42 metres out of chance now I'd say for Nikitian
00:44:14To try and put first points on the board for Romania
00:44:17Fast approaching the half-time break
00:44:19Let's watch it again
00:44:23Oh, the little trip
00:44:25The hands went up
00:44:27I think it was Algeron
00:44:29Looks at the referee, it's always a bad sign
00:44:34Like a shagging rock down here, it's pouring down rain
00:44:37They're all running for cover
00:44:38It's not too bad up here, Simon, actually
00:44:41Now Nikitian
00:44:43Superbly struck
00:44:45And first points to Romania
00:44:49That was a superbly struck penalty goal
00:44:54Romania strikes for their first three points of the match
00:45:19And now it's time for the second half
00:45:39Agraf
00:45:40Nikitian
00:45:42Racian
00:45:45And again, not good control by the backs of Romania
00:46:01Now the referee ruling that one of the Romanian backs
00:46:04Was taken out without the ball
00:46:07And so Nikitian again will look for touch on that far side
00:46:15And again, not good control by the backs of Romania
00:46:21And we're just in time
00:46:24To look down to see Simon Pordiovan
00:46:27About to hoist the Raleigh on the touchline
00:46:29Because the rain is just starting to tumble down here
00:46:34At the Vanarasca Stadium
00:46:36It's the great corporate box area
00:46:40The northern, the southern end of the ground
00:46:43Now the tight end crop, Gabriel Vlade takes it forward
00:46:46Now Nikitian
00:46:48An ideal opportunity to use those three quarters
00:46:51But again, he pumps it high
00:46:53Canada were put under pressure
00:46:55But they've secured it well
00:46:56Agraf
00:46:57Inside his 22 is Rhys
00:47:00So close to half time
00:47:01He's quite content to drive it up the woods halfway
00:47:14Raleigh
00:47:21Slide out right on the halfway line
00:47:25Tomorrow night our coverage begins
00:47:27The clash between Wales and Japan
00:47:31From Hong Kong time
00:47:32As Rugby World Cup 95
00:47:35Goes into Day 3
00:47:37We also have highlights of Western Samoa and Italy
00:47:41A great match between England and Argentina
00:47:45And New Zealand began its campaign
00:47:48With a clash against our tribal's island
00:47:50So, Nik, another wonderful day looming
00:47:53On Penn's Rugby World Cup 1995
00:47:56It certainly has been a tremendous start to the tournament
00:48:00You can never remember a more emotional rugby day than yesterday
00:48:04Of course we were a touch disappointed
00:48:05Well, greatly disappointed
00:48:07With Australia's performance and loss
00:48:09For the host country, South Africa
00:48:11A great day
00:48:12And now some of the minnows on show
00:48:14Ivory Coast, well, a little out of their depth
00:48:17But great to have the black African country playing in this tournament
00:48:20And well done Gareth Rhys
00:48:22Just before half time
00:48:23He bought 10 metres with a quick tap
00:48:25And now he's got an opportunity to put his team in front
00:48:2811-3
00:48:29One from three so far from the Canadian fly half
00:48:35And this will be an absolute bonus
00:48:36The extra three before half time if this kick is successful
00:48:40That's the touch judges' reading
00:48:42And Bishop's view of this attempted penalty
00:48:46From the Canadian captain and fly half
00:48:53Well, the touch judges hoist the flags
00:48:57And at half time
00:49:00Gareth Rhys has given the Canadians an 11.3 advantage
00:49:05And he looks mighty pleased with himself
00:49:07Just one try punctuated the first 40 minutes
00:49:10That was scored by the tight head prop Rod Snow
00:49:14Gareth Rhys has supplied the rest of the points for Canada
00:49:17The lone penalty goal by the Kitty and for Romania
00:49:20At Port Elizabeth, Canada lead Romania by 11 points to 3
00:49:26A crucial penalty kick for Gareth Rhys
00:49:29Has extended Canada's lead to 8 points
00:49:31After the first 40 minutes
00:49:33Canada leads Romania 11-3
00:49:43Michael
00:49:44Michael Sultan
00:49:47To find what you desire requires a great effort
00:49:54You look thirsty
00:49:57Gatorade
00:49:59Thanks
00:50:00I've come
00:50:01I know why you have come
00:50:03You wish to know the meaning of life
00:50:05And?
00:50:06Life is a sport
00:50:07Drink it up
00:50:08That's what I figured
00:50:15I've stopped balls from the best players in the world
00:50:20But in my 20 years in goal
00:50:23I've never seen a ball do this
00:50:32What a piece
00:50:37This shoe sucks
00:50:44At Port Elizabeth, Canada leads Romania by a score of 11-3
00:50:48After the first 40 minutes in Canada's debut
00:50:51At World Cup 95
00:50:54Canada needed a strong start against Romania
00:50:57And that's exactly what they got
00:50:58Skipper Gareth Rhys with a couple of penalties
00:51:00But a terrific try early in this game
00:51:02By young Newfoundlander Rod Snow
00:51:05He just buries over the Romanian
00:51:07And crashes in the corner
00:51:08For the 5-0 lead for Canada
00:51:09And boy is he excited
00:51:10No kidding
00:51:11Just his third test
00:51:12And that's his first try
00:51:14Canadian fans making a long trip to see this game
00:51:17And Canada's up early on
00:51:19Gareth Rhys
00:51:20Another kick here
00:51:21Just misses
00:51:22Canada could have been up by more
00:51:23Unlike Gareth who missed some makeable kicks
00:51:25But he comes right back
00:51:26Splits the uprights with the next opportunity
00:51:29Gareth Rhys hits
00:51:30Canada leads Romania by a score of 8-0 at that point
00:51:33And then you talk about speed on the Canadian side
00:51:36You have to talk about UBC winger Winston Stanley
00:51:39Canadians were unfortunate here
00:51:40After this great run by Stanley
00:51:42They did take the ball on further
00:51:43And were actually penalized for going over top of the ball
00:51:46But what a great stanza for Canada
00:51:48I think this gives them more and more confidence
00:51:50Going at the Romanians
00:51:51And after a great start
00:51:52The Romanians are slowing down a little bit
00:51:54But the Canadians unfortunately are penalized
00:51:56In this instance right here
00:51:57And the ball goes to the Romanians
00:51:59After the breakdown on John Graff
00:52:01This drive by the Canadian side would ultimately be stopped
00:52:04The Romanians then would hit the board
00:52:06With just three minutes left to go in the opening half
00:52:08Nikitou strokes one from about 45 meters
00:52:11They thought they were right back in it
00:52:12But Rhys responded with a second penalty
00:52:1411-3
00:52:15Gareth Rhys with just about three or four seconds
00:52:17Left to go in the first half
00:52:18Really in the final play of the first half
00:52:19Makes it 11-3
00:52:20A crucial three points
00:52:21But let's talk now about Rod Snow
00:52:23The Newfoundlander
00:52:24Definitely not the first Newfoundlander
00:52:26To make this squad
00:52:27There have been some good representatives
00:52:28From the East Coast before on the Canadian side
00:52:30That's right
00:52:31The former captain Mike Luke
00:52:32Is obviously from Newfoundland
00:52:33But Rod Snow
00:52:34He played flanker, hooker
00:52:37And he's playing tight head prop today
00:52:39He's a fitness instructor
00:52:40And he's a very mobile guy for a man his size
00:52:43He's thrilled to be in the lineup
00:52:45But we could see him at hooker
00:52:46Before this tournament's over
00:52:48We spoke to head coach Ian Birtwell
00:52:50Of the Canadian side
00:52:51Before they went to South Africa
00:52:52When they were still in Vancouver
00:52:54And something he said was
00:52:55He liked the combination
00:52:56That he had on his team
00:52:57He had a healthy combination
00:52:58Of good experience in the international realm
00:53:01And some good young talent as well
00:53:03And I guess Rod Snow
00:53:04Is a good example of that young talent
00:53:06Terrific example
00:53:07But I don't want to dwell on things
00:53:08But Norm Hadley's absence
00:53:10We're getting crushed in the lineouts
00:53:11Glenn Ennest is doing Jolman's effort
00:53:14But he's only 6'4
00:53:15The Romanian boys are 6'6
00:53:16They're bigger than him
00:53:17Al Charron's playing blindside flanker
00:53:19We might see Al Charron
00:53:21Against Australia and or South Africa
00:53:23In the second row
00:53:24That takes Al out of the game a little bit
00:53:26But the Canadian size
00:53:27Without Hadley in the lineouts
00:53:29Is very noticeable
00:53:30How much of a factor is that
00:53:31Because the Romanians at this point
00:53:33Seem to be dominating the set pieces
00:53:35How much of a factor is
00:53:36Norm Hadley's absence to that?
00:53:38I think it's a big factor
00:53:39But I think the Romanians
00:53:40Must be frustrated
00:53:41Because they came out hard
00:53:42In the first 10 or 15 minutes
00:53:43Obviously we're not rewarded for that
00:53:45And they're down at the half here
00:53:46They must be a little frustrated
00:53:47I think Canada's going to build
00:53:48In their confidence
00:53:49After a little bit of dodginess
00:53:51Dropping the ball and whatnot
00:53:52Canadians are going to play stronger
00:53:53I don't think they're quite clear yet
00:53:55But they're looking pretty good
00:53:56A very, very successful
00:53:57First half for the Canadian side
00:53:58But that's only 40 minutes
00:54:00There's still 40 minutes to play
00:54:01Let's take you back now
00:54:02To Port Elizabeth
00:54:03Where Canada is set
00:54:04To take the field
00:54:05For the second half
00:54:06Against Romania
00:54:07We're at Boat Erasmus Stadium
00:54:09In Port Elizabeth, South Africa
00:54:10Just about set for the kickoff
00:54:11For the second half
00:54:12Let's rejoin David Fordham
00:54:14Simon Poidman and Nick Farjo
00:54:24Well the Romanians are really up against it
00:54:26They'll have to use
00:54:27A bit of passion here
00:54:28They haven't got too many options
00:54:29And their coach is really
00:54:31Trying to stir them on
00:54:32A bit of passion
00:54:33The Canadians have got
00:54:34A lot more going for them
00:54:35In this second half
00:54:37The ground's running their way
00:54:38Slaps away into this corner
00:54:39In front of me
00:54:40The wind's behind them
00:54:41I think they'll win this one
00:54:42Quite easily
00:54:47So referee Colin Hawke
00:54:48Sounds time on
00:54:49In the second half
00:54:50And again
00:54:51Romania arrive
00:54:52To the breakdown
00:54:53That's been knocked forward
00:54:54By Romania
00:54:55On the short side
00:54:56No advantage coming
00:54:57Yes it is
00:54:58Now towards Canada
00:54:59The referee has played that
00:55:00Now Stewart
00:55:01Tries to get on the outside
00:55:02Of his man
00:55:05But very, very good defence
00:55:06That time
00:55:07From Ratchian
00:55:08The outside setter
00:55:09Now the charge
00:55:10Down by Nikitian
00:55:12Back it goes
00:55:13For Scott Stewart
00:55:14He's got the ball
00:55:15He's got the ball
00:55:16He's got the ball
00:55:17He's got the ball
00:55:18He's got the ball
00:55:19Scott Stewart
00:55:20And he's forced onto
00:55:21His left foot
00:55:22But a relieving pressure kick
00:55:24From the Canadian fullback
00:55:26Takes place within 10 metres
00:55:28Of the halfway line
00:55:31So everyone is rugged up
00:55:35In very chilly conditions
00:55:36Here at Port Elizabeth
00:55:38It's a province
00:55:39That loves its rugby
00:55:40Eastern province
00:55:44A very passionate crowd
00:55:45And the South Africans
00:55:46Are arriving here
00:55:47here. Their third match against Canada. It's the town that brought Griswally here, Nick.
00:55:52It is indeed, and of course the town that boasts is Dani Gerber, a great South African player.
00:56:00Oh, now that's a bad mistake. It's been knocked forward by David Luffhead.
00:56:07And I'm sure our viewers from New Zealand would have heard of the news of their former All Black
00:56:11coach Griswally getting the sack. His contract terminated. There was talk
00:56:16of a barroom brawl with one of his players. I think Gris denied that. Something went wrong.
00:56:22Now scrumptious by Romania.
00:56:27Suhariuk, the number eight field off the back, turned over possession again.
00:56:33Well, Simon, every time Romania seems to get into
00:56:36a very good attacking position, just fundamental errors let them down so badly.
00:56:45It appears that the rain may have affected Simon off a touch button there, Nick.
00:56:51He's gone for a blanket, David, but you're dead right. Romania are really struggling in that
00:56:55facet of play. Maybe they've just got to quieten it down a bit. It could be the passion and just
00:56:59the enthusiasm, real desire to get over that guideline that's causing them difficulties
00:57:04in the control phase. Now Rees.
00:57:14Back for Salomia.
00:57:17Yerge Salomia skirts wide to try and put that centre kick back in.
00:57:22And very effectively and wisely, John Graff marks it inside his own 22.
00:57:27This is the very versatile Canadian player that kicked a vital drop goal.
00:57:37So that's a terrific 15-12 win over England and Vancouver, Nick.
00:57:41He will be long remembered by the Canadian fans for that.
00:57:44He's got a great ability, the Canadians, for the surprise victory, of course, last year,
00:57:49the amazing one over France. And that same French team went on weeks later
00:57:54to defeat New Zealand 2-0 in the series.
00:57:59Csardascu, a big Romanian lock.
00:58:05Kerciakou goes high to win ball again for Romania.
00:58:09And now it gets to the inside centre, Gontiniac.
00:58:14And he finds touch, but really, I do feel for Nicolae Racian and the two-wing three-quarters,
00:58:20Rotaru and Colcherio. They've seen very little of the football tonight,
00:58:27particularly with Romania dominating so much ball from the line-outs.
00:58:37You can hear the calls coming from Cardinal, the Canadian hooker.
00:58:45And again, just a little bit of lifting, the short-arm free kick awarded.
00:58:50Romania, referee Colin Hawke, very quick to jump on both sides on two occasions tonight,
00:58:59as Csardascu goes forward. Now, Slushaniuk,
00:59:05Nikitian, this time they move it wide. And good support on the inside by Jalapu.
00:59:13Well, they finally decided to let the backs have a little bit of their head,
00:59:16if it wasn't that terrific support by the open-side flanker.
00:59:19Yeah, it was great play by the backs. It's nice to see the ball go along the
00:59:24three-quarter line for Romania and the big number seven, Jalapu. Hit it with a head of steam.
00:59:32And may have done just a little bit of damage to itself as well.
00:59:36So, that's where the injury occurred. And he's back on his feet.
00:59:58And the clearing kick by Gareth Rees again is a hefty one that takes play
01:00:04to about 12 metres short of half-way still at Canada's end of the ground.
01:00:09Simon, I can't really recall Romania being in a tri-scoring situation. It really has come down
01:00:14to that lack of control at vital stages. Yeah, that last run by Jalapu was about the
01:00:19only time they looked really dangerous. They are winning a lot of line-out ball,
01:00:23and they just need to get their head together and really get across the
01:00:27advantage line instead of a few phases of playing.
01:00:31Again, flying high was the Jocaru. It was Negreci.
01:00:44Nikitian, this time onto the left foot. The kick is shallow,
01:00:48and it's wide as well. So, that was a very, very poor option by the Romanian fly half.
01:00:56Surprising with the player of his untold experience.
01:01:02Well, that looks like a more reliable statistic than the one I received at half-time.
01:01:19And a cardinal
01:01:19to the back of the line-out. Again, a line-out. Gee, that was well cleaned up by Leonte,
01:01:29sweeping the loose head prop as if turned over possession.
01:01:32Now Rees takes on the defence, looks for the support on the inside,
01:01:36but the referee has ruled the Romanian backs well up offside, and this will give another terrific
01:01:42chance for Gareth Rees to add further points for Canada.
01:01:46Actually, I've been very, very impressed with Colin Hawke's control of this match tonight.
01:01:49He's played great advantage. Now, here's trouble for Gareth Rees.
01:01:59This could be a crucial blow for Canada if this is a serious injury.
01:02:08He's certainly their most experienced player out there tonight.
01:02:15Very interested on lookers. He looks all right. He's opting for the kick, and a very vital kick.
01:02:33Now that seems to be a bit of a knock, maybe a nerve problem again in the shoulder.
01:02:39He's a seasoned campaigner for Canada.
01:02:49He's now played in all eight internationals at World Cup level for Canada.
01:02:55This to really boost the scoreline out to 14 points to three.
01:03:00Oh, that again is a superb kick. Gee, he struck it well, just allowed the breeze to drift it back.
01:03:09And 14 points to three, Canada lead this international.
01:03:14Gareth Rees now goes to nine points in the match, Canada up 14 to three.
01:03:20Three weekend warriors, four-letter words, six flights daily,
01:03:28six flights daily, 17 scars, zero limits, nine lives.
01:03:40Equals one joyride.
01:03:47For all you do, this Bud's for you.
01:03:51And the referee ruled that it was knocked back, and Stewart finally pumps it away into touch on the far side.
01:04:07You can hear in the background the official South African rugby anthem, Shozaloza, which is the
01:04:14working man's song, and it's one that has really taken off over here, Nick. You can hear it around
01:04:19all the stadiums, in the streets, in the hotels. It's part of Rugby World Cup 1995. Great to hear, David.
01:04:27Now turning it back in Graf for Ian Gordon.
01:04:33Graf again just pumps it behind that Romanian defence. Running back for the difficult ball
01:04:39to take was Golcheriou, and his only option was to take it in a touch on the far side.
01:04:46Canada wisely shortening this line out. They have struggled to date to win possession.
01:04:51Watch for their big men charging off Rhys.
01:04:55Yes, Romania have won 78 percent of their own throws. Canada only 40-odd percent.
01:05:03Referee applying advantage. Finally the free kick.
01:05:10Short on free kick, there should be just one option. Play on as quickly as possible as the
01:05:13Canadians have. And taken forward is Rod Snow. But an obstruction there by Canada sees the penalty
01:05:21go to Romania. So really fundamental errors there, costly, particularly this end of the field for Canada.
01:05:29Just a little bit impetuous on that occasion, and running themselves into an unforced error.
01:05:37Well there's another unforced error, this time from Romania, and the ball is put up high.
01:05:43Oh, taken out early. I would have thought the Romanian player was taken out without the ball.
01:05:51But it gives Canada a great chance.
01:05:58A great scrum situation here for Canada. I don't know if he was taken out early, David,
01:06:02but I can assure you he was taken out. That was one of the biggest hits of the evening. Watch this.
01:06:08To me, that's a penalty. Yeah, that's smart. Simon, how'd you rate it? No doubt about it,
01:06:13it was a penalty. Drop goal attempt, and three more points to Gareth Rees.
01:06:19So they have capitalized on the opportunity at that end of the ground.
01:06:25And Canada go out further on the scoreline. Beautifully struck drop goal by Gareth Rees.
01:06:33And that gives him 12 points for the match so far.
01:06:39Romania have got to try and strike back straight away. They have to score next.
01:06:46And as a result of that early tackle on Nyaga, he's still not very healthy.
01:06:54Gareth Rees laying down the laws to say, let's keep this game under control.
01:07:02And Daniel Nyaga feeling the effect possibly looks like going off, and will have a replacement coming on.
01:07:12For Romania. David Flutere moving on to the ground.
01:07:17Yes, Vasily Flutere, playing in his third international for Romania.
01:07:24Had his debut against Germany last year, and he replaces Daniel Nyaga.
01:07:30A very experienced scrum half from Romania.
01:07:33Had his debut against Germany last year, and he replaces Daniel Nyaga.
01:07:39A very experienced scrum half from Romania.
01:07:53Driving it deep, very little angle, but used it well.
01:08:04So there's Flutere, 26 year old.
01:08:28Again, great control of the line out by Romania.
01:08:30Good first touch for Flutere, Nikitijan Hoisanhai, Stuart Fluhai. What a magnificent take.
01:08:40Yeah, it's very brave to charge into that situation at full steam ahead,
01:08:45and he's won a vital possession for Canada. One would imagine that from the ensuing scrum,
01:08:49Gareth Rees will bang Canada back down into the Romanian half. But a fantastic play, Simon.
01:08:55Here it is on replay. Yeah, very courageous take.
01:08:59Kept his eye on the ball, got high momentum, took him forward and secured the ball on the ground.
01:09:05Referee Colin Hawke pulled it up very quickly, a lot of boots around him.
01:09:08Again from the scrum, all Canadian back standing, at least 15 minutes of depth.
01:09:17Now Rees, oh, a bad mistake.
01:09:25Ball coming to him, he got a bit flatter, he mightn't have done that.
01:09:32Great opportunity for Canada. A couple of options, they've got a short side on the left.
01:09:37Only one defender, well two, halfback and winger.
01:09:40Just spots for the short side, the big number eight.
01:09:46Now they've got open side through Nikitijan, he tried to get it behind the defence.
01:09:52But Canada's defence is equal to the task.
01:09:56They lead by 17 points to three here in Port Elizabeth.
01:10:00Game two, Poulet of the Rugby World Cup of 95.
01:10:04Not quite sure what Nikitijan was doing. Well, you can see they're trying to free his arms.
01:10:08But he just sent straight off a cross field.
01:10:11Fly halves do have a licence to run across field, but someone's got to straighten it.
01:10:15He did cramp his outside backs.
01:10:16So the 33-year-old from James Bay in Canada,
01:10:20Mark Cardinal in his second World Cup feats in the line-out.
01:10:25Now away goes Jalapu.
01:10:29Stood at his feet well.
01:10:31Fluteur, Nikitijan, Ratchian, ball loose on the ground.
01:10:37The big number eight arrived, but it's untidy ball.
01:10:40And away goes Rotaru.
01:10:43Colin McKenzie.
01:10:47Today playing in his 17th test match.
01:10:51And the fans here, as I mentioned, just love their rugby here in Port Elizabeth.
01:10:59And the fans here, as I mentioned, just love their rugby here in Port Elizabeth.
01:11:12Probably still celebrating the result last night or yesterday afternoon.
01:11:16And why wouldn't they, Nik?
01:11:17South Africa's abuzz, David.
01:11:34So Canada lead by 17 points to three, and it's just a blood bin.
01:11:38Yeah, Mark Cardinal heading across to get his nose cleaned up.
01:11:41Nothing too serious.
01:11:47A little gash across the nose.
01:11:48And that will allow probably Carl Slavoda to come on.
01:11:59Referee Colin Hawke just pulling up the play.
01:12:02Normally they play on, but in this situation with the scrum they go down.
01:12:06The hooker is the vital position.
01:12:07So Cardinal goes back in the middle of that Canadian scrum.
01:12:1117-3, Canada lead Romania.
01:12:19Ries again turns around Colcetiu.
01:12:26And that's a great kick by Ries, taking play once again inside Romania's 22.
01:12:37So we're at the midway mark of the second half.
01:12:52Here at Port Elizabeth.
01:12:54Local time around about five minutes past nine.
01:12:59Friday night.
01:13:07Romania have got to start to get this ball moving.
01:13:10They can't afford to plug the touchline for too much longer with about 17 minutes left.
01:13:15Trailing by 14 points.
01:13:17Only kidding, it hasn't found touch.
01:13:20It's a Canadian set off.
01:13:21A bit of an aimless kick though.
01:13:24Back it goes for Gerge Salomea.
01:13:28Oh, good hands by Stewart.
01:13:31Good support, wonderful skills.
01:13:34Stewart back again.
01:13:35This is going to be a superb try.
01:13:39What a reward for El Sharon.
01:13:41That's the try of the tournament so far.
01:13:44Great interchange of handling.
01:13:48The Romanian kick well straight into fullback Stewart's hands and he set off.
01:13:52Pinned the ears back.
01:13:54Two switch passes and then Sharon.
01:13:57Look at Stewart.
01:13:58Timed the run beautifully.
01:14:00Here's the first switch.
01:14:01The flick pass and the second switch.
01:14:03And look at Sharon.
01:14:04Inside.
01:14:06Straight through.
01:14:08The big flanker Simon Chalk and move.
01:14:13From Winston Stanley.
01:14:17But what's the replay here?
01:14:18Stewart.
01:14:19A bit of change of his hand.
01:14:24Stewart.
01:14:26And big El Sharon goes in for a big five-pointer.
01:14:30Yes, he scored against the All Blacks in the 91 quarterfinal.
01:14:34And also scored a match winner against Wales in 1993.
01:14:38So the big flanker loves scoring tries and he would have enjoyed his second try in World Cup rugby.
01:14:45Gareth Rees puts the icing on the cake.
01:14:5024 points to three.
01:14:51Canada lead the international.
01:14:54Canada proving they deserve to be among the best at World Cup 95.
01:15:01Today's cars and trucks are more advanced than ever.
01:15:04But there is a price.
01:15:05Their harder working engines can wreak havoc on the motor oil, breaking it down almost immediately.
01:15:10That's why Castrol GTX provides maximum protection against viscosity and thermal breakdown.
01:15:16So use Castrol or your harder working engine could make things hard on you.
01:15:22Castrol GTX.
01:15:23Engineered for greater protection against breakdown.
01:15:26Look for Castrol's special NHL offer at these and other leading outlets.
01:15:31Well, I'll tell you what.
01:15:36Both sides will give Australia and South Africa a bit to think about.
01:15:41Well, Romanians haven't played well tonight.
01:15:43But I think deep down they've got a fair bit of ability.
01:15:46So this is a chance tonight for the Canadians to bring their World Cup record to four and four.
01:15:53In 87 their only win was over Tonga.
01:15:55While in 1991 they had wins over Romania and Fiji,
01:15:59which saw them advance to the quarterfinal as the second team behind Ireland in their pool.
01:16:04But they lost that quarterfinal to New Zealand by 29 points to 13.
01:16:09We, of course, had a close look at that quarterfinal day,
01:16:11but we knew we'd, well, we hoped we'd beat New Zealand in the semifinal.
01:16:15And I can assure you Canada ran New Zealand to the wire on a number of occasions.
01:16:20It wasn't until late in the game that the Kiwis got away with it.
01:16:26Now, once again, Cardinal throws the ball to the line out for Canada.
01:16:29They go to the back.
01:16:30It's been knocked forward by Canada.
01:16:33The referee attempting to play advantage.
01:16:36Bucket goes down for Stewart.
01:16:39He thumps it deep downfield.
01:16:44Fulhamir, back to the halfway, returning it well.
01:16:48That's great support by Leonte.
01:16:50They've turned over possession again.
01:16:59I just hark back to that terrific try by Al-Sharon.
01:17:03It's just wonderful to see support play like that.
01:17:06And the way they changed the angles of pace,
01:17:09that really excited this crowd here at Port Elizabeth.
01:17:12Yeah, the whole stand was up as one.
01:17:15Sometimes I can't quite understand though,
01:17:17when you've got that sort of skill in your team,
01:17:19you have that ability to communicate and transfer the possession.
01:17:23Why teams like Canada and Romania don't elect to keep it in their hands more often.
01:17:27So here at Port Elizabeth, it's 24-3 in favour of Canada.
01:17:36And Sandu Ciorascu, the Romanian captain,
01:17:42is the man receiving attention here at the moment.
01:17:4518 minutes remaining in this game.
01:17:50Canada in control, 24-3.
01:17:54Want to try New Perk Plus?
01:17:55No way.
01:17:56I tried it years ago.
01:17:58My hair needs a separate conditioner.
01:17:59This new stuff cleans and conditions better than back then.
01:18:02But it's still a shampoo and conditioner in one.
01:18:04True.
01:18:05But while some other two-in-ones only vary the level of the same conditioners,
01:18:09New Perk Plus actually has different conditioning formulas,
01:18:12customized for each hair type.
01:18:14We'll see.
01:18:15Well, it is actually better.
01:18:18It's really manageable.
01:18:20New Perk Plus.
01:18:21Customized conditioning that's right for you.
01:18:27They definitely had safe options going right.
01:18:29They could have played a back row move, Canada.
01:18:31But I suppose they think, why worry?
01:18:33Very difficult to retrieve those balls when it's put in behind you.
01:18:3721.
01:18:38When the surface is so slippery.
01:18:3961.
01:18:40Canada short in the two-man again.
01:18:45Well, they got on each other's road.
01:18:47Both dragging each other off the deck.
01:18:50A good collision.
01:18:57A few communication problems out there for Colin Hawke, the referee with the Romanians.
01:19:0263.
01:19:0321.
01:19:09Taken down by Shadiuk.
01:19:11In fact, it was the number six, Elroyan.
01:19:19Canadians have got a lot of upper body strength, Simon.
01:19:21On that occasion, able to turn the Romanian round,
01:19:24stopping from transferring the ball back in the ruck.
01:19:27Yeah, they're a strong bunch of lads.
01:19:29Obviously, they're working hard in their weight room.
01:19:32Canada have turned an 11-3 advantage at halftime into a 24-3 lead.
01:19:38As Fluteur concedes the penalty, and once again, Gareth Rees says,
01:19:47I'll opt for the three points.
01:19:51A little bit of frustration creeping into the Romanian game.
01:19:55Halfback realising the time is getting away from them.
01:20:00Ball obviously not out, but he's prepared to have a go, the little fella.
01:20:08So Gareth Rees so far has kicked a conversion, three penalties and a drop goal.
01:20:13For 14 of the 24 points.
01:20:18In fact, three penalties from four attempts.
01:20:22His last few kicks, he struck the ball magnificently.
01:20:27Canada's most capped player tonight.
01:20:30Shows his wealth of experience and talent.
01:20:33And 27 points to three, Canada lead this World Cup Clash in Poulet.
01:20:42They really have got away with it in the second half.
01:20:45And we see the 26th minute, nothing's going right for the Romanians.
01:20:48How do they look down there, Simon?
01:20:50Very disillusioned, Nick.
01:20:56Now they're still chasing.
01:20:58Deep restart, Cheron.
01:21:02Probably one of the most dominant players in that Canadian pack tonight.
01:21:10Big Al Cheron, Simon.
01:21:13Al Cheron, the whole back row has had a good game.
01:21:17And the LaLocs, given their lack of size compared to their Romanian counterparts,
01:21:21have done a reasonable sort of job.
01:21:23Particularly impressed with Glenn Ennis and his ability to get off the ground.
01:21:28Look at that statistic there.
01:21:2925 line-out wins for the Romanians, only eight to Canada.
01:21:33Canada are going to have to shorten against the Australians.
01:21:36I would also think against the South Africans,
01:21:39they've got to come up with different options if they can't win possession against the Romanians.
01:21:44So an injury back on the 22-meter line to Nikolai Nikitian, the Romanian fly half.
01:21:51With his side trailing by 27 points to three.
01:21:54The three points supplied through the right foot of Nikitian.
01:21:59One of the replacement player warming up on the sideline is Ili Ivanchuk.
01:22:11Well, he replaced Nikolai Nikitian in the 1991 World Cup for his only World Cup appearance
01:22:30against Fiji.
01:22:31So history repeats itself with the very experienced Nikitian going off and Ili Ivanchuk coming on.
01:22:42And away goes Rod Snow.
01:22:45You can see the ability as the next flanker.
01:22:48And now driving it forward, Mark James.
01:22:52Crap.
01:22:52Away.
01:22:54Setting it again, Canada.
01:22:56Just inside Romanian territory.
01:22:58Short side move.
01:22:59Rees giving the pass away.
01:23:02Again, good support by Rod Snow.
01:23:04And now they roll that ball forward again.
01:23:06It's Canadian Pack giving away weight advantage, but that pass is forward, surely.
01:23:12Yeah, shame he really shouldn't have thrown that ball, should half-back Graf.
01:23:17But a very fine passenger play by the Canadians going through four and five phases.
01:23:21Mixing it up between quick ruck ball, going back to the rolling ball.
01:23:25Terrific variation.
01:23:27Ili Ivanchuk, the replacement player.
01:23:31And his first touch, sees him drop it onto the right boot and take it up to the halfway line.
01:23:38Someone better tell him he hasn't got much time to go and his team's trailing by 24 points.
01:23:43They really have to start to throw the ball around, try and liberate their wingers now,
01:23:47the Romanians.
01:23:57Ball's made.
01:23:58Ball's made available.
01:24:04Snow again.
01:24:11Good ball movement by Canada.
01:24:17Now Stewart.
01:24:22Ball is on the ground.
01:24:23Canada coming clearly from an offside position.
01:24:27Romania have to play on quickly, the quick tap and just move it.
01:24:37Another injury here.
01:24:39Mark Cardinal down injured.
01:24:41Doesn't look too serious, Simon.
01:24:42Maybe just a bit of a time waster.
01:24:46Trekkie, seven points to three.
01:24:49Let's have a look how this incident arose.
01:25:06Now the touch finder, up to the 22.
01:25:12Ten minutes left, Canada with a commanding 24-3 lead.
01:25:19115 years of tradition.
01:25:29One distinctive recipe.
01:25:32Zero preservatives.
01:25:34Too smooth for words.
01:25:37One Canadian brewery.
01:25:40Five percent alcohol.
01:25:43Equals one good beer.
01:25:47It's all we do, because this blood's for you.
01:25:57Canada trying to capitalize on that quarterfinal appearance of 1991.
01:26:03And Gareth Rees
01:26:08just turns the Romanians around again as he has done all night here in Fort Elizabeth.
01:26:13Simon, the big Romanian, slowed to a walk.
01:26:17Yeah, I think they've sort of run out of hope.
01:26:19Might be happy to see him this year, normally.
01:26:34Now to Grecci, a loose pass.
01:26:37One of the rare touches for Gontiniac.
01:26:46That's absolutely calling it right, David.
01:26:54Low quality possession.
01:26:55Look where it started, look where it finished up.
01:26:57Just passing pressure, transferring pressure.
01:27:01They really have to straighten the play, the Romanians.
01:27:03If they don't practice it, standing flat out, running straight,
01:27:06well then you can't expect all of a sudden to be able to do it in a game with success.
01:27:10Now Futur, Nikitian, now they move it again.
01:27:19Horatian, Gontiniac was standing wide, couldn't receive it as the support was turned back on the inside.
01:27:26And again the temp has started to play out.
01:27:30And yet again, the Romanian forwards required to run back to support the broken play.
01:27:35Well, Simon, how impressed have you been with this Canadian outfit tonight,
01:27:44despite the lack of height in that line-out?
01:27:47There's no doubt they have got a lot of natural ability, these guys.
01:27:51They've got to work very hard in the line-out.
01:27:52I think one of the problems in that line-out is Mark Cardinal and his throws.
01:27:57Not all that sort of accurate.
01:27:59It just makes you wonder, there was a personality clash with the former captain Norm Hadley.
01:28:05Who is a giant of a man that I'm sure would have made a huge impact in this Canadian side.
01:28:13So you just wonder whether personal things should be put aside.
