00:00And my chump is the NFL. As much as I love the Lions winning the game, had they lost
00:06a coin flip and LA scored, I would have been one pissed off guy that we didn't get a chance
00:11to tie it.
00:12You don't like the overtime system, huh?
00:14No, I don't.
00:16Yeah, I mean, look, they're trying to, this is the one area that interestingly, they seem
00:21to be concerned about the health of the players and don't want overtimes to go on and on and
00:26on.
00:27I've always kind of in the back of my mind thought that there should be an equal number
00:31of possessions in overtime, like innings in baseball, each team should get the ball the
00:35same number of times.
00:37They've implemented this rule to try and get away with the kickoff three first downs field
00:42goal you win.
00:43And so that felt extra punitive, the coin flip.
00:47And I wondered, I was sitting there and I'm going, is this going to be a topic?
00:50When they were walking out for the coin flip, I'm like, okay, I still expect the Lions to
00:55win this game.
00:56But if they lose this coin flip and never get the ball, is that all we're going to talk
00:59about on Monday?
01:00Yep.
01:01But we're not, that works the other way.
01:04I mean, this is a case where maybe the, maybe the NFL needs to learn from college football
01:09a little bit about how you do an overtime.
01:11I'm not saying the college football overtime is great, but to put a team automatically
01:17in the red zone to shorten things up, maybe it makes more sense.
01:22In the NFL, the teams are a lot better and they're more evenly matched.
01:26So it's not automatic.
01:27You're going to score.
01:28I don't know if they have to tweak or not, but it's not going to surprise me when they
01:32do because this, this kickoff rule, I think it's pretty apparent what teams are going
01:36to do.
01:37They're going to kick it out again.
01:38So yeah, we'll take it from the 30.
01:39Go ahead.
01:40You get an extra five yards and they don't seem to care about being marked at the 30.
01:44I don't mind the overtime rules, but I mean, they make decisions based on entertainment
01:47because this is the entertainment business and what's going to get, you know, better
01:51viewing, better audience, better numbers.
01:53So they might change it because of that.
01:56But honestly, if you get dog walked in overtime, seven play running plays out of eight plays,
02:00you deserve to lose.
02:01Now, if the Lions had lost the coin toss, they showed right before that they could stop
02:06the Rams.
02:07The Rams needed a first down to ice that game and they couldn't do it.
02:09And the Lions stopped them, got the ball back.
02:11So I mean, you got to play defense too.
02:13And the thing is, for everything that happened last night, they have this new and improved
02:18defense that they're hoping is going to help them win games.
02:21The defense had a must stop series.
02:24They had to get off the field.
02:26Rams had the ball with a chance to run out the clock.
02:28And I think they got one first down and then the Lions forced the punt.
02:33And I, you know, I mean, I'm, it's not, it's, it's too early to do victory laps about the
02:38defense getting that stop, but they got that stop that necessary stop to get the offense,
02:44the football back.
02:45Yeah, they did.
02:47And I thought it was, it was just a cool scene.
02:49You know, you get to overtime and then the coin toss, you got both quarterbacks come
02:54to midfield.
02:55That was actually pretty cool to see Stafford and golf right there at midfield, whatever.
02:59It's even remotely uncomfortable.
03:01I think it has to be a little bit, I mean, or at that point at the game, Hey man, we're,
03:06we're just playing the game.
03:07We're in overtime.
03:08That's all that matters.
03:09I'm not thinking about, Oh, we were traded for each other and we'll get a positions.
03:13We're in two, four, eight, five, three, nine, 97, 97.
