00:00And he spoke today to the Assembled Media.
00:02He is your quarterback, Brock Purdy,
00:05and we call this Brock Talk.
00:07Brock, what do you remember about,
00:09obviously, Brian Forrest, a lot of blitzing
00:11and different looks they like to throw at you.
00:12What do you remember about last year,
00:14and how can that kind of help you this week?
00:15Yeah, I mean, I don't know, man.
00:17He does a lot of different looks and different things
00:19and makes you think that it's gonna be one thing,
00:21and it can be that,
00:22or go to something completely different.
00:24And so, he does a good job with that.
00:26I think one of the best in the league
00:27with just disguises in general.
00:29And so, last year, we had,
00:32obviously, a whole game against him,
00:34and got some really good looks from him,
00:36and some tough situations that he puts you in,
00:38especially as a quarterback,
00:39trying to make a decision and stuff.
00:41And so, it was a good experience last year,
00:44and there's some things that I had to learn from.
00:47So, I had a year of film and stuff,
00:50and this week of practice, so we're excited for it.
00:53What about the atmosphere last year?
00:56How does that stadium stack up with Seattle
01:00and some other loud builds that you've been in?
01:01Yeah, at the end, especially,
01:04it was a tight game and everything,
01:06and the place was rocking.
01:08And for the most part, the whole game, they were like that.
01:10And so, some loyal fans that they got in Minnesota,
01:13it's a dome, so it just gets loud in there,
01:15and they bring it.
01:16And so, it's an environment where you wanna go in
01:20and try to, obviously, do your thing to put up points
01:23and score to create momentum
01:24and keep them away from being so loud.
01:27But it's a great environment to play in.
01:29How does not having Christian McCaffrey
01:30out there on the field
01:32change the way opposing teams defend you guys?
01:35I think just with Christian,
01:37especially there's certain plays third down
01:40where we like to get him out
01:42and throw to him and stuff like that.
01:44And so, there's a lot of teams that can either double team
01:47him and then open up some other guys within our offense.
01:51And so, that's something that we sort of have to remember.
01:54That's a huge aspect.
01:56A lot of teams always have to account for him
01:58and have a whole plan for Christian.
02:00He's the best in the league at it.
02:01And so, when he's not out there,
02:03I think it sort of not necessarily simplifies things
02:06for defenses, but that's a component
02:08that they don't have to really handle.
02:10And then they can focus on George and BA and Debo.
02:12So, that's something that for us that we have to understand.
02:16And as a quarterback, I always like having that
02:18because I think it does open up other guys.
02:21What stood out for you as far as things you need
02:23to clean up specifically coming off
02:25Monday night going forward?
02:27Yeah, I think there's just certain movements in the pocket
02:31and stuff that I saw early on in the game
02:33where I feel like I could have been better
02:34and sort of threw me off some reads.
02:37And just that live action and feeling of a real pass rush
02:42and having to make smaller movements within the pocket
02:45and then deliver the ball on time.
02:46I feel like there was some reps in the game early on
02:49where I was pretty hard on myself
02:51and I needed to be better at it.
02:52So, that's something that I'm sort of honing in on
02:55and hopefully I can be better at this week.
02:57Last time you went to Minnesota, you didn't have Debo,
03:00but you also didn't have Trent Williams at left tackle.
03:02So, how much nicer is it going back there?
03:06And how necessary is it when that line
03:08has to do silent counts and stuff?
03:11You know, it's tough for the offensive line
03:12just being on a silent count.
03:15You know, they're waiting for the guy next to them to move
03:17and that's when they're in their pass set
03:20or running, you know, run blocking and all kinds of stuff.
03:23So, it's tough.
03:23And so, you know, for them in general,
03:26that's a whole challenge in itself.
03:27Not having Trent and Debo,
03:29like that was a whole component to the game
03:31and our game plan.
03:32You know, well, the things that we can do with Debo
03:34and having that out of the equation last year was tough.
03:37And then obviously Trent and his experience at left tackle,
03:40not having him within the run game and pass game and stuff.
03:42But I think Jalen Moore jumped in and did a great job.
03:45So, I'm not taking any credit away from him.
03:46He did a great job.
03:48But, you know, having Trent back in
03:49and just his dominance and force, you feel it.
03:53And so, to have him back will be great.
03:56Debo as well, having him go in full speed
03:59and being able to do everything that he does,
04:02I'm really excited for.
04:03So, I feel like for the most part,
04:05everybody's healthy, feels good,
04:06and we're excited to take on the challenge.
04:08Brock, with Jake Moody's going into his second year,
04:11his work here, he was replacing kind of a legend around here.
04:13He was a third round draft pick.
04:15Do you see a change in him and more confidence in him?
04:17And do you have more confidence in him now?
04:19Yeah, 100%.
04:21I think, you know, last year,
04:23he went through a lot of different kinds of situations
04:25where, you know, things were on the line
04:27and there was a lot of meaningful kicks that he had,
04:30you know, in situations that he got put into.
04:32You know, as a rookie, it's not easy.
04:33And then especially being a third round pick,
04:35it's like you have all this extra pressure
04:37and expectations and stuff.
04:39But I think just the more experience that he got, man,
04:44just the more confident he got.
04:45And then obviously this year, man, like in camp and stuff,
04:47he's been locked down and just locked in on his job
04:51and he's been great.
04:52So obviously the first game, he had a great performance
04:55and just who he is around the building,
04:58just talking to him and stuff more
04:59and seeing him sort of come out of his shell
05:01and talking to guys, you can just feel it.
05:03So we all got his back and we love going to war with him.
05:06Teams run a version of your defensive scheme.
05:09Is what they're running in Minnesota like really unique?
05:11I mean, is it tough to prepare for
05:12because you don't really see it very much?
05:14I would say so.
05:15Yeah, like you get into some teams throughout the league
05:18where you know what they're running,
05:20they're in quarters, three deep, man,
05:22like you know what they're running.
05:24With Minnesota, it's sort of an illusion fest.
05:28They wanna make it seem like they're doing this
05:30and then post snap, they're dropping eight
05:32and every which way.
05:34So they do a lot.
05:35It's hard for us to just grasp exactly what they're doing.
05:39So I think a lot of it is dropping back
05:41and post snap, seeing the shell, the safeties,
05:44who's coming, who's not,
05:46and where I need to go with the ball from there.
05:47But it's definitely one of those outliers
05:50of a scheme that you have to get ready for.
05:52Part of what makes it effective in Minnesota,
05:55the fact that it's so loud and it's hard to communicate.
05:57Yeah, for sure.
05:58I think that's definitely a component of the game.
06:00Being in the huddle, screaming to play, breaking,
06:03and then you're not being able to hear guys
06:04and yell and make audibles.
06:06It's all signals and like I said, we're on silent cadence,
06:10which is a whole nother dynamic from being
06:12and playing at home.
06:13And so it's totally different,
06:16but there's some good things that can come from it
06:18just in terms of the preparation
06:20and being ready for those moments and executing.
06:22Sometimes the best executed games are on the road
06:26with crazy environments
06:27because you have to be more in tune to the little things.
06:29And so there's pros and cons to it,
06:32but Minnesota is one of those places
06:34where you have to be on top of your stuff
06:36or else you can get exposed.
06:38Brock, this is kind of a crazy game.
06:39I mean, a few months ago,
06:41you shared a quarterback room with Sam Darnham.
06:43Now you're going up against him.
06:45Yeah.
06:46Um, yeah, he's, Sam's the man.
06:50Like I've told everybody that I absolutely love Sam
06:53and who he is as a person,
06:54what he's done for this team
06:56and the quarterback room last year for Brandon and I.
07:00You know, he came in and helped me prepare
07:01and gave me everything that he had, you know,
07:04with his role as a backup
07:06to help me be successful on Sundays.
07:08And so I'll always be grateful for that.
07:10Love Sam.
07:11And so, and dude, he's very talented.
07:14He's in a great situation, great offense,
07:16great players around him.
07:17And Sam is so talented with his arm strength,
07:20his legs, like Sam can move.
07:22And so, you know, to be able to go out
07:24and compete against him, man, it's gonna be fun.
07:25So, and that's who he is.
07:27He's a competitor.
07:27I know he's gonna want this one too.
07:29And so for all of us, man, it's gonna be a fun game.
07:32Do you think that George's punishment
07:35for the Iowa State-Iowa game
07:37was equal to your punishment last year for that same game?
07:41I mean, we agreed to the terms
07:43of what was gonna happen after this year.
07:46You know, I had to walk up here with a mascot helmet,
07:48so that's a little different,
07:49but it did feel good though,
07:50just seeing him in an Iowa State helmet,
07:52like what could have been.
07:53You know, he could have been a cyclone.
07:55George Kittle is a cyclone.
07:56That would have been pretty sweet.
07:57So I thought he looked good, man.
07:59That helmet looks so good.
08:00And then with George's hair coming out of it,
08:02I was like, all right.
08:03Do you have a mascot head somewhere?
08:05I don't.
08:06No, I mean, yeah, I could ask my equipment guys
08:08back at Iowa State to send me one.
08:11And to tell you the truth, my rookie year,
08:13that was the deal too.
08:15And Iowa State won and I had the stuff sent out
08:18and it got lost in the mail.
08:20So George was like, you're a rookie.
08:23You have three days to do it.
08:25And it didn't show up and he goes, that's too bad.
08:27I was like, bro.
08:28So, and then last year, of course they win.
08:30And then this year it got them.
08:32So I don't know, maybe there'll be a mascot head thing again.
08:35So yeah, go cyclones.
