00:00I'll just say this about Debo Samuel. I'm not second-guessing anybody. You didn't ask, but
00:04this is why I don't like to see his workload increased. Did you really need him to return
00:09kicks? Did you really need him to return kicks? And this is why, Jan, I just, I'm trying to be
00:16good today, but this is why the dudes always, yeah, hey, let's use Debo this. How about you
00:21just, you know what I mean? Stony, talk to me, man. I was listening to the weekend show with Dan
00:28Devone and Evan Giddings this weekend, and Debo Samuel's name was brought up, and Evan Giddings
00:38made it clear. He said, I wouldn't call Debo Samuel injury-prone. He gets nicked up a little,
00:45and he's probably not going to play 17 games, but he's not injury-prone. The log would back him up
00:50on that. Yeah, I agree. But he's always Bobby Brady limping off, you know what I'm saying?
00:57The Super Bowl, he'll come out for plays. Green Bay, he's out in the first half,
01:01doesn't come back, but I'm like, that is the guy that should not do more. If he does more,
01:07you'll want it in the passing game, which he did Sunday. Now he's got a calf, and I just wonder,
01:12hey, they increased his workload a bit. Why? What'd they do, Goo? They had him return kicks.
01:17Was it worth it? Mike got the answer. No. I think he just stood back there for the kicks.
01:22He caught it coming. I don't actually think he returned one. In my mind, he returned them,
01:27Stein. Evan has the game log to back him up, if you look at it. But he limps off more than
01:36anybody. Okay, so you'd like a coach to, we're playing without McCaffrey. Okay,
01:42our next best weapon is Debo. Oh, we can't use him, because we're scared. Well, I don't know.
01:48Why did Mason only get 20 totes after having 28? Willard came in here and gave you that
01:53explanation. Which was? It was the same explanation that I'd given you all day.
01:58Which was? However, when Willard used the same explanation, you said, oh,
02:03I don't remember. What was it? I think you're right. What was it?
02:06It was 20 rushes when you're behind for two scores. Oh, stop. They were down 60.
02:11That game was never, oh, we're down 23 or 18 points. We got to let it fly. No, I'm not the
02:16only one, and I love Will. Evan. I don't agree with that. I'm not the only one saying they gave
02:21up on the run too quick. 48 rushes, first two games. No, we're talking about Sunday against
02:27the Vikings. Why did you only give them 20? First and goal, and you throw it three times. I'm just
02:33saying. And you got a beast back there, a mutant, who punishes and finishes. We got the ball
02:38dispatched. You're not, see, here's the thing. You don't worry about Mason getting work too hard,
02:43but you do Debo. You got to give the ball to your playmakers. Mason doesn't have a Carfax
02:49report right now because he's so new. You like that? I don't. I don't. My feeling is when you're
02:57down players, you rely more on your stars. You want them to rely on their scurbinis, I guess.
03:04No, J.P. Mason. Let's get Garendo 15 times. He may get me. It stinks. He hadn't even seen
03:11him enough to claim that. The bottom line is, their young players didn't have a great game on
03:17Sunday. 888-957-9570. Let's go to Jonathan. He's at work, and he's coming down Evans Road
03:26right off the bat. Jonathan, he's at work, but I don't know where it is. What's up, Jonathan?
03:35What's going on, guys? Good afternoon. I have a question for you. How much
03:40money does Debo Samuel get paid to play this game of his professionally?
03:45A lot. A lot of money. A lot of chicken.
03:48And goo. Maybe the writing's on the wall, brother. Maybe we're not wanting to read it. Maybe we're
03:54too scared. Maybe Debo is not our answer. If this man cannot be used to play the game that he gets
04:01paid really well to play a game and stay healthy, just like I said with Trey Lance, maybe this isn't
04:07the career for Debo, or maybe the position he's playing isn't for him. But he's getting paid a lot
04:12of money to say yes, sir, and do a job that he can't be healthy for, goo. We need someone to be
04:18healthy, goo. Help me, man. I need to make sense out of this, because it seems like every season,
04:22we've got to count on one thing. Debo's gone. I'm not laughing. Like, he lives off with the
04:28best of them, Stein. Evan, the entry prone, you got me, brother, because the game log will back
04:34you. But just the little, you know, the little nicks and, hey, the pointing to the leg or down
04:40on the ground. We saw it Monday against the Jets. I just hope that this is only two weeks and he's
04:44Joe Burrell with the Cavs down and he comes back and he's effective. Well, but you are. Nobody can
04:50ignore the pressure on Perry. Maybe the writing's on the wall, brother. Huh? Michael's in Napa.
04:55Hey, Michael, how you doing? What do you think about Debo Samuel? How the 49ers going to get
04:59it done without him? So here's my take on this. So a couple of years ago, Debo is wondering if
05:06he's a running back or why receiver money, even though we use him a lot for running back.
05:14Then this season, Chris McCaffrey goes out and Debo's sitting on the sidelines thinking, wow,
05:19my reps are going to go up. I've already, I've already told them I didn't want a lot of these
05:23reps to get hurt. Then last week and see him over the middle, he throws by party getting over that
05:30middle linebacker and getting clobbered. Now, all of a sudden, now my mom, now I've got a leg strain
05:36and I'm going to be out too for a couple of games. And lo and behold, you get Chris McCaffrey and
05:42Debo back around the same time. That's awfully coincidental in my book. Hmm. Yeah, well, we'll
05:50see if they come back. He sounded like some of my conspiracy friends, Donnie. I'm not busted.
05:55Debo wants to be out there, but again, eight catches, 110 yards, you know, took some pounding,
06:01but I just can't believe me driving home yesterday with, with this McCaffrey news and
06:07before, you know, hadn't played and now Debo's out. So you, you, you know, a lot of people want
06:12to see more Marcus Thompson, great article in the athletic again about, you know, people are really
06:17watching with their binoculars, Donnie. They're already brought. Are you that guy? Don't like,
06:22let me ask, let me ask 49er fans is don't you think they should, don't you think 49ers should
06:27be watching Brock Purdy the next two weeks? Because it does mark a significant difference
06:35in the kind of team he's quarterbacking. And won't that give you perhaps a better
06:41Objective assessment of what he can do. I look at that as a positive. And as long as it's early
06:48in the season and we haven't gotten to the midway point or in the second half of the season,
06:54I think this is a blessing in disguise to get, to take a look at Brock Purdy the next two weeks,
07:01because if he rises to the occasion, I think we can all acknowledge then the questions are
07:06answered. If he doesn't rise to the occasion, that's where I'm fixated. Okay. Well, good.
07:12Like, I mean, so all his goodwill that he's created when the team's healthy, I'm asking,
07:17yeah, I want to see how he's more. I want to hear, I want to see Brock quarterback,
07:21quarterback, a team that's loaded, which he's had the opportunity to do for a year and a half.
07:26And now I get to watch Brock Purdy quarterback, a team that's banged up and he's, he's got to
07:33have more responsibility. You would believe. And I think it's a, I think it's a, it's a great
07:39opportunity, not just for Purdy, but for the 49ers. Like I listen, it's out there and it's
07:48been out there that he can't, you know, that he's, he's taking advantage of all the weapons that he
07:54has and that he's a product of the greatness around him. Okay. People have differing views
08:02on that. I get it. But to me, this is going to be fun. The next two weeks to see Brock Purdy
08:08quarterback without as many weapons. And you'll get a more, maybe objective view of how he would
08:16quarterback a team. That's maybe not a, an elite team this upcoming week. Would you liken it to
08:23the three games that they lost last year when Debo was out and Trent was out? I would, you know,
08:28and we don't forget that, but it didn't erase all the good that he's done, I guess. And I'm
08:33with you. It is going to be exciting. Uh, now if you're Kyle, I'm sure it's not, but I heard Bonte
08:38this morning with him. And she asked him, he was right. Like Niner fans started, they went three,
08:42nothing down in LA Levi South. That'll suffice, you know, but there is another scoreboard.
08:48All of a sudden now is what are we getting from Brock Purdy without some of the Avengers? I mean,
08:55look, I I've, I've been someone who said for the last year or so that the one thing about
09:02Brock Purdy without making any kind of judgment on whether I think he's great or I don't think
09:07he's very good, but I would before he gets paid. I I'm glad that I get to see him play a couple
09:16games like this. I, I just do. And whether you like it or not, if he doesn't play well,
09:24the next two weeks, then we do have something to talk about. We, we just do. And the 49ers,
09:31like I look at this as look, Brock Purdy is a good quarterback. How good is he? How good is he?
09:39I think we'll get a better taste of it against the Rams and against the Patriots and then against
09:46the other team they play after that, that they're going to have to play without McCaffrey.
09:51To me, I, I'm going to almost look at this as, as a positive, at least, at least knowing that
09:59these guys are going to come back in weeks four or five or five and six or whatever. But if they
10:05don't, well, then he's going to have to quarterback a longer stretch without his weapons. This is
10:10crazy. No, let me ask you this. Why is it crazy? Cause I didn't foresee early week one, one,
10:20no McCaffrey. And then week two, after a big game for Debo and us talking about how great a shape
10:26he's in him being like, it's come real fast, Donnie. That's why it's just like what you've
10:33talked about. And me, I think I blew up at you. Like, why would you want to see that? And here
10:38we are week three going into week three against the Rams. It's upon us. I mean, again, it's crazy.
10:44This could be, and I'm not saying, well, Brock may not get paid. I'm not saying anything like that,
10:51but you cannot deny that we're going to get to view Brock Purdy the next two weeks, at least
11:00through a different lens. And the 49ers will get to see that too. And so, yeah, this is,
11:05these are the two biggest games of the regular season for Brock Purdy, probably in his short
11:11history.
