00:00What would you rather have a player making too much money who's declining or a player
00:07who hasn't proven a lot but is making a lot of money?
00:10Well, the latter.
00:11Okay.
00:12Well, that's Purdy.
00:13That's Purdy.
00:1449ers got to figure out what to do with Brock Purdy.
00:21And remember, it was Jed York who said he's going to reset the market.
00:26Well, the market is the market.
00:28Numbers and numbers and numbers.
00:29But you know what I mean?
00:30This is a great...
00:31You can't be mad at him for that.
00:34He's up.
00:35You're right.
00:36He is up.
00:37And he's got a couple hits and Homer's on the wall.
00:39So...
00:40No, I'm just...
00:41Well, stop arguing for him if you're not paying him 60 then.
00:42No, I'm just arguing about is he the guy that's going to get you hoist up the next Lombardi
00:47trophy?
00:48I know.
00:49That's what I'm...
00:50It's hard to have that physical conversation when it's just about football than the Benjamins.
00:55I've just seen some things to where I don't know how good he is, Donnie.
00:58I know he's good.
00:59But I'm talking about get you to the promised land.
01:02Let's go to Javier in Vacaville.
01:05Oh, man.
01:06Get us started, Javier.
01:07What's going on, man?
01:08How you doing?
01:09I'm Mr. Simon and Mr. Johnson.
01:10Hey.
01:11I hate to break it to you, Brock Purdy.
01:12You know, I love you like every Niner fan has.
01:13And it's not a matter of what you deserve.
01:14It's a matter of business.
01:15And if you want to say, I'm going to reset the market, all right, well then, hey, what
01:27team's going to go pay you that money?
01:29Go find your suitor.
01:30Like, same thing with IU.
01:31The team that he wanted to have them pay, he didn't want to play for.
01:35You can go play for the Jets, the Giants, the Raiders, because I'm going to call your
01:39bluff.
01:40You know, if the team isn't everything all good, the end all be all, he's not doing it.
01:46And it's not like he's not a good quarterback, but you see what a $6 million quarterback
01:49here looked like.
01:50We went up to Buffalo.
01:51Period.
01:52And it ain't about, well, Purdy, I would do exactly, if Brian Baldwin, you're saying,
01:57with a neutral lens, saying, I was living right now for Sam Darnold, I'll pay Sam Darnold
02:02half of what Purdy wants.
02:03No, you won't.
02:04No, you won't.
02:05He's going to put the ball more vertical.
02:06No, you won't.
02:07What?
02:08Sam Darnold's going to call.
02:09You think Sam Darnold's not going to get paid after this season?
02:13I said half.
02:14He's not going to take, he wouldn't take three for 120?
02:16I'll bet you Sam Darnold makes more than half of what Brock Purdy makes next year.
02:21Either way, my argument is still prevalent.
02:23It's still less.
02:24You're going to lose Hufunga.
02:25You're going to lose your defense line depth.
02:27You're not going to be able to keep Debo.
02:28You're going to lose Jordan Mason.
02:29You don't even have any line depth you're trying to replenish.
02:30You're not going to be able to play any offensive linemen.
02:31Who's going to play Greg Greenwald?
02:32You're going to pay all that money to Brock Purdy, and you're going to say, you know the
02:33perfect example of it all is, look at Joe Burrow.
02:40They paid him all that money, they paid him all that money, and they're off.
02:45So you're advocating for Sam Darnold?
02:52If I can get him for three quarters of the price of Brock Purdy, you don't got to tell
02:56me twice.
02:57For how many years?
02:58I'm doing three for $100, three for $120, three for $115, three for $110 with the opt-out
03:07after two, but a team option for the player.
03:11But again, you guys keep saying, well, they didn't have all these weapons, and they didn't
03:15have all this and that.
03:16So what happens if it happens again, and you pay them all that money when you're at Rochester
03:19or even more to pay them, because you can't pay them.
03:22I appreciate it.
03:23I appreciate it, Javi.
03:24I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you.
03:25And you know what's funny is, you know, Javi's saying I'd offer Sam Darnold three for $120.
03:31And I get it.
03:32We got to factor in the guarantee and how long it's spread.
03:35But just for the sake of ease, let's just go for average annual salary.
03:40I mean, if you offer Brock Purdy three for $120 right now, is he really going to turn
03:48it down?
03:49Is he really going to turn it down and say, no, I'm going to play for a million dollars
03:56so that in a year I can make 65 to 70 million?
04:01Or he would hold out.
04:02I don't think he would.
04:03That 40 would suffice.
04:04I think if he's got any representation worth of salt, Snotty, they know what time it is.
04:10And I just had your guys, I was a quarterback that had you in the Super Bowl.
04:14Pay me.
04:15So that's not going to be the case when he negotiates.
04:20He's not going to be the quarterback.
04:21I do wonder.
04:22I had him in the Super Bowl this past year.
04:23That's a reality.
04:24You are right there.
04:25And I wonder how much do you still, I'm asking you then, you know, Javier has me thinking
04:32you got two lines that you need to build in regard to the offensive defensive line.
04:38Okay.
04:39You got a receiver.
04:40You're paying $30 million who will not be out there week one.
04:43What do you do with your agent or whatever you want to adjective you want to use to describe
04:49Debo?
04:50They got so much to do and get done is ward coming back or is he gone?
04:55Like Stani, there's a litany of, of items that they got to find out what's going on.
05:00So I say all that to say in a crazy world, do you, does that make the purty thing almost
05:06we easier form to where a Brock here's 55 let's just, you know, and then they go attack
05:12what they got to attack.
05:13Because right now the reality is Donnie, if it's not Brock, then who, well, I, that's
05:20your reality right now, Doug who takes 11 o'clock.
05:24But you know what I mean?
05:25Like what are the chances of them really saying, we're going to go try to find something else.
05:30The Niners.
05:31Depend.
05:32I mean, I'm, if he wants too much money or if you don't think he's the guy, I mean, who
05:38knows what we don't know what, what Kyle Shanahan really thinks of him.
05:44Let's go to West Oakland Holloway on West Oakland.
05:47How you doing, man?
05:48I'm doing all right, man.
05:49I'm going to get to it because I got a lot to say, uh, unfortunately, and it pains me
05:55to say this, man, that they might be stuck with him.
05:59They may be stuck with him.
06:00They may have the pain, but the one thing I want to see if they, this is what I want
06:04to see.
06:06I want to see him play horrible because I would love to see what type of scrutiny Brock
06:11Hardy will receive if he hailed out of camp.
06:15I'm just saying, keep that energy like y'all gave BA and everybody else.
06:19That's what I pray that I see.
06:21The other thing is this, the 49ers window has closed with this team, what they need
06:28to do while they still competitive is go to route Buffalo bills.
06:34You could get something.
06:35Isaac Orindo.
06:36I want to see what you do in these next three games, because one thing we know about a Shanahan
06:41offense is friendly for running backs.
06:44So if Gorindo can prove that he's a starting running back, McCaffrey's on a trading block,
06:51uh, the boys on a trading block, my left tackle trend is on a trading box because you need
06:56to get as many draft picks right now while you still competitive, not saying you're going
07:02to win a super bowl, but you still competitive.
07:04Get as many draft picks as you can to get debt and bring people in and open a new window.
07:11Do I think Brock can take them?
07:12No, I don't.
07:13I really don't.
07:15But you can still be competitive if you can hit in the draft and get some guys that you
07:20could put on a field as playmakers because they need playmakers because they have none.
07:24So we'll see, you know, what they do in the all season, but we'll see.
07:28And one more thing, real quick, Steinie, have you guys, maybe you guys have done it before.
07:34I don't know.
07:35Have you guys ever did like to where you have callers that call in, you had to come
07:42on a show and sit down with you guys for a segment, man, and get a sports opinion.
07:46Have you guys ever thought about doing something like that?
07:48Yeah, no, we have.
07:49Absolutely.
07:50Who did we have?
07:51No, we've thought about it.
07:52Oh, we thought about it.
07:53We thought about it.
07:54West Oakland.
07:55Thanks.
07:56Appreciate the call.
07:57That's never happened, man.
07:58We should look into that.
07:59The more you guys got the doobies, they'd pull up on Gu and Steinie.
08:03I got to say something about what West Oakland Holloway said.
08:08This is not aimed at anybody.
08:11Just let me get it out of my mouth.
08:14How the hell do you have no playmakers when Devo's getting 28 and a half, you just paid
08:21your young stud 30, and you're drafted in the first round Ricky Pearsall.
08:28How the hell do you not have, if West Oakland Holloway's right, I don't believe he is.
08:34How do you not have playmakers?
08:36Well, it would mean you made a mistake drafting.
08:39Or your system needs an oil change.
08:41Well, there's no such thing as an oil change.
08:44This way.
08:45A tune-up.
08:46No.
08:47That's kind of my point with this team right now.
08:50There's no oil change.
08:53You've got, I mean, you've got to live with whatever McCaffrey is next year.
09:00Okay, gotcha.
09:01But you can do something no different, Steinie.
09:04Like what?
09:05Like, we're running the 2-3, we'll go man.
09:07Something like that to where he's trying to, think about it, Jerry Rice said it.
09:11He was just saying why the offense is stale and stagnant.
09:14If you're going to run it back, and it looks like you are, some, just your mindset of how
09:19you attack, you can control.
09:21So you're going to ask, what does McCaffrey do best?
09:23What are you going to do?
09:24Ask McCaffrey to do it.
09:25Well, not him, but not, yeah, no, that's, my point is, here's where they're boxed in.
09:30They're at the mercy now of McCaffrey, Trent Williams, Brandon Aiyuk, and Deebo Samuel.
09:37And you know who else I'm adding to that?
09:39Nick Bosa.
09:40They're at the mercy of those guys who make a boatload of money who have been supremely
09:49disappointed.
09:50Nick Bosa's got seven sacks.
09:53Nick Bosa has seven sacks.
09:55And he's injured, man.
09:56So, in other words, like, are you, this team, this team may be so, do you think the window
10:02will shut?
10:03Yes!
10:04I actually do.
10:05I do.
10:06So then, are you really going to play, are you really going to pay Perdon $65 million?
10:11And to oversee what?
10:13A soft rebuild?
10:14Or is this going to, if you're there, and like, you know, it's funny, we just talked
10:19to a guy on the other side of the country, and he said he's going all in for next year's
10:23Niners.
10:24That's all you can do.
10:25Somebody else give me an option, other than running back this same team that looked stale
10:32and old.
10:33You know, I shouldn't say that.
10:35At least running it back with all your named players who didn't come through this year,
10:42but they're going to get another crack at it next year.
10:44How come?
10:45Because we have to.
10:46That's really what it comes down to.
10:49Let's go to Manny in Fremont.
10:52What's up, Manny?
10:53How you doing?
10:55Hey, Stiney.
10:56I just want to say, I ran into your partner in the U a few days ago.
11:01Oh, Manny!
11:02Yeah!
11:03Coming out the barbershop.
11:04I thought he was talking about high school kids for a second, but then I recognized the
11:08voice.
11:09I thought he was a grown man just speaking on high school kids, but then I recognized
11:12the voice.
11:13What's up, baby?
11:14What's up, Gil?
11:15How you doing?
11:16I'm hanging in there.
11:17Hey, real quick.
11:18Real quick.
11:19I'm going to be fast about this.
11:20Brad Purdy is a Super Bowl quarterback, right?
11:26Super Bowl playing quarterback.
11:28Yeah, he's been there.
11:31So is Jake Delhomie, and so was Rex Grossman, right?
11:37So I'm not going to give too much credit towards the fact that you were a Super Bowl quarterback.
11:42Now you got to get paid.
11:43Just like the Johnny Jackson says in the song, what have you done for me lately?
11:48So coming off the heels of the Super Bowl and coming into the season and showing me
11:52this kind of performance, I'm glad he still has some time left on his contract.
11:58All right, thanks, man.
11:59I appreciate the call, man.
12:00Manny would play hardball.
12:01You got a lot going on out there.
12:03So, Sadi, you think that's – there's no way in hell that scenario's happening to where
12:07if the Niners sit down and find out this dude's really trying to reset the market, that they
12:11play the hardest of all hardball and say, you know what, then go out there on your last
12:16year.
12:17You're listening to 95.7.
12:19KGMZ FM in HD1 San Francisco.
12:22Always live on the free Odyssey app, Twitch and YouTube powered by First NorCal Credit
12:26Union.
12:27I mean, I think – I mean, in a perfect world, I know it doesn't work that way and it looks
12:32bad or it would look bad, but I guess that's just how I can deal with me trying to decipher
12:40is Brock Purdy the two years ago Brock, what he's done, and where I was high on him?
12:45Or am I just letting what I've been seeing, not just results, you know, limited physically?
12:52I don't know, man, but I just think there's something there.
12:53I will say it again.
12:54I will say it again.
12:58And I don't know where this factors in to how much you pay him, but we say, you know,
13:06what is Brock Purdy?
13:07Is he this?
13:08Is he that?
13:09Do we need to see more from him?
13:11And all I'm telling you right now is I feel like when it comes to Brock Purdy as a quarterback,
13:20I know more or I believe I know more about who he is as a quarterback right now than
13:28I know who Trent Williams is as a left tackle.
13:33I know more about who Brock Purdy is as a quarterback right now than what Christian
13:39McCaffrey is going to be from this point on.
13:42I know more about who Purdy is than I do and Debo Samuel.
13:48So what I'm getting at is none of those other four guys are going anywhere.
13:53So you're actually you're not at the mercy of Purdy.
13:56You're at the mercy of those guys because all of those guys were wanting this year.
14:03And whether you pay Purdy 60 or not, it's going to their success is going to be dependent
14:08on those guys.
14:10And I'm not sure those guys have it in them anymore.
14:14That's what I believe.
14:15But I'm not mad at you and I understand what you're saying.
14:18But Stadi, that goes to saying with anybody that's ever hurt, how are they?
14:23And they got a list of them.
14:24You just these guys are older like we not like like George Kittle has had a great year.
14:32Like I would just expect a little regression from him next year because he's getting up
14:37there a little bit.
14:38So what do you do with the well, with the what you know about Brock in regard to those
14:42other guys?
14:43OK, now let me.
14:44That's my point.
14:45You're beholden to these old guys now.
14:48So you must you're not bringing a new quarterback in here.
14:53I mean, the only guy who would make sense would be Darnold.
14:56But they're not going to be able to get Darnold.
14:59But even if like they they can't, the quarterback of the 49ers next year is somebody that that
15:07the team thinks.
15:10I don't know.
15:11Like, I don't that's why I don't think it matters next year who the quarterback is in
15:15a crazy kind of way.
15:16It has to, though.
15:17Well, no, because I don't think the skill positions are good enough anymore, man.
15:21I really don't.
15:22I did what we disagree on that.
15:25That's why I'm like just I'm I'm coming down Kyle Shanahan, the coordinators road, because
15:31it can't be everybody outside of of Kittle and Jawan Jennings, you know, looking like
15:39themselves.
15:40There has to be something going on with their plan of attack.
15:44Even the plays that they're calling now, if Debo catches a ball in the rain, they might
15:49win that game last Thursday in the season.
15:51He'll catch it next year.
15:52He'll catch it next year.
15:54Well, I mean, you have no choice.
15:56That's my point.
15:58That's my point.
15:59You can't make changes with this team, at least not at the top.
16:03Let's go to Joe in San Jose.
16:04Hey, Joe, how you doing?
16:09Joe Joe in San Jose, what do you got?
16:12Yeah.
16:13So first of all, Brock Birdie is an overachiever only at a million dollars.
16:19The moment he starts making $60 million, he needs to do what Josh Allen is doing, because
16:24he's not going to have very much of a roster around him.
16:27Right.
16:28And he's not Josh Allen.
16:29You know that.
16:30So if he's playing like Baker Mayfield, or if he's playing like Sam Donald, he deserves
16:34to be paid like, wow, that is a three year, $100 million dollar kind of deal.
16:41Regardless of how smart, you know, the liners structure his contract, to me, it's about
16:47principle.
16:48He can't pay him any closer to $60 million because he's not that kind of player.
16:52That'll send all kinds of wrong signals to the team members.
16:56This is a team, this is a franchise that played hardball with Hall of Famers like Nick Bosa.
17:03Wow.
17:04And Adebo Samuel.
17:05Appreciate the call, Joe.
17:07Now, listen, and that's the other, that's the other issue that, or one of the millions
17:12of, not millions, one of the myriad issues is however they handle Purdy, it will be compared
17:20with how they handled Trent, with how they handled fans.
17:27It should be a factor to the fans because the way they handled it last year, everybody
17:33acknowledges, didn't do them any favors going into the year.
17:37And I'm asking you, because unless we're not going to say there's a racial component,
17:43which I don't believe there is, then what are we doing with, why did, and I told you
17:48my thoughts, because McCaffrey's the best out of those three.
17:52You're missing my point.
17:53My point is this, if on June 2nd, Brock Purdy is in contract negotiations, one of two things
18:02is going to happen.
18:03He's either going to get into camp immediately, then they're going to pay him what he wants,
18:08or we're going to have a holdout situation, or he's actually going to say, they're making
18:14me play on the one, on one million.
18:17And whatever happens, that can be compared to like, like if Brock Purdy holds out and
18:24he misses all the training camp, the 49ers are going to get ripped.
18:29And they should.
18:30Well, that's my point.
18:31And they have already.
18:32Right.
18:33So how they handle the Purdy situation is going to be judged in a big, big way.
18:38I thought you were saying from within players.
18:40It might be.
18:41But they, but that, what game did that cost them this year?
18:45All you can do is go out and do your job.
18:47It's not, he's mad at him.
18:50He's mad at that guy.
18:52It's that the way the 49ers handled the off season negatively affected their team.
19:00So the way they handle this upcoming season is going to negatively impact the team, not
19:06impacted at all, or impacted in a positive way.
19:11Like, okay.
19:12Yeah.
19:13I'm not disagreeing.
19:14I just, Donny, to me, injuries is the number one thing that went wrong.
19:17No, no.
19:18Brandon Aiyuk was terrible the first five weeks of the year.
19:20No doubt about it.
19:21That was because he held out.
19:23Right.
19:25Nick Bosa, a year ago, said when he held out, he never really got back in.
19:31But they went to the Super Bowl.
19:32Right.
19:33But he wasn't, he wasn't.
19:34Okay.
19:35I'm talking about Theta.
19:36Okay.
19:37That's my point.
19:38They went to the Super Bowl when he held out.
19:39That's my point, Gu.
19:40If Brock Purdy holds out and he's not the same player, the 49ers front office is going
19:45to get killed.
19:47And rightfully so.
19:48Because we're going to be able to say, geez, you know, you let Bosa, and I don't care that
19:53the team made the Super Bowl, Bosa underachieved that year.
19:56I didn't know you were going individually if he signs and then he doesn't live up to
20:00it.
20:01And that's why, Stonny, I'm nervous now because outside of Willard, who can walk in here and
20:06feel comfortable about paying Brock 50 to 60 million?
20:10And I'm being real.
20:12Maybe Cosell.
20:13I don't know who has seen enough to, and I'm asking because now I'm seeing more warts in
20:20a fast amount of time than I ever thought.
20:22And I just have questions.
20:24I don't want to pay a quarterback because that's the market when I'm asking myself,
20:31well, he's not Josh Allen.
20:33Okay, who is?
20:34But he's not this or that.
20:36And from a physical standpoint, I forget who joined the show last week that said, how many
20:40times are you going to win the quarterback battle when Brock Purdy's your guy?
20:47And we've seen this year, what's so funny is last two years, Brock Purdy had the tuxedo
20:54around him.
20:55His team was the NFL version of a tuxedo with Stacey Adams clean.
21:00And this year, for whatever reasons, it went bad and he had to bring something to the table.
21:06And that's why I'm Stonny.
21:08He wasn't awful.
21:09That's why everybody, but he won the first two years when Brock Purdy was playing well
21:14and any, but no, no, I'm both every side, every side.
21:19Brock Purdy came out and he lit the world on fire and everyone said, oh, he's great.
21:25And then the people on the other side said, he's not that great.
21:28He's a C and they're like, both sides are wrong.
21:31He's neither.
21:33He's better than the one side thinks he is.
21:35And he's not as good as the other side thinks he is.
21:38He's not a top five quarterback, but he's pretty good.
21:41So you got to figure out what to pay him.
21:43But I'll tell you right now, the more I think about it, you're not leaving these old guys
21:46hanging with a, with a, with a quarterback that can't get it done.
21:51Like you got to be answered, right?
21:56That'll be answered though.
21:58Like when you break it down like that, I have, there's no quorums about Brock's going to
22:03get a number, Stonny.
22:04It's just about how much.
22:06And then you're right.
22:07We're, we are going to be waiting.
22:08I would not, not like jackals, but it would be a natural.
22:12Okay.
22:13What's party?
22:14The guy, you know, it's unavoidable.
22:17Like you said, um, eight, eight, eight, nine, five, seven, nine, five, seven, zero is the
22:23number.
22:24Um, what do we, you know, I, and again, I'll, I'll be honest with you.
22:29I know the question is, what are we going to do about Brock Purdy?
22:33And to me, there's a couple of things you got to do.
22:37And one is whatever you do, he can't be a holdout.
22:43So whatever happens, Brock Purdy cannot hold out and then come to camp late.
22:48Like the other guys who did that and had miserable, miserable years.
22:54That's one thing you can't do.
22:55So if you're going to pay him, figure it out in June and then pay him and then do what
23:01you have to do, which is the only thing you can do, run it back, which is run it back
23:05with your old team, your older veteran team, and you're giving them one more crack at it.
23:11The problem is now, if you're not good enough next year, and that's what you realize, what
23:16you also may realize is Purdy isn't the guy either.
23:20But then what do you do?
23:21That shit gets sailed though.
23:22And what can you do?
23:23It's all how you construct your contract.
23:26I think, right.
23:27I don't think there are any good decisions for the Niners.
23:31They're either going to overpay Brock Purdy out of necessity or they're not going to have
23:38a quarterback in here as good as Brock Purdy.
23:41Don't you think Dallas made, I'm just using them because dad got his money and he got
23:44it because it was predicated on, we have nothing, no alternative.
23:49It was out of necessity.
23:50Well, the 49ers may be bringing Brock Purdy back because of the team they have around
23:55them and they have to bring him back because this is their last chance to win.
24:02You thought last year was the last chance, but actually they're going to get one more
24:06crack at it.
24:07I don't, I don't, I don't see it happening, but.
