00:00The game of the year so far was Alabama over Georgia.
00:03What'd you think, Doug?
00:04Okay, Ryan Williams is incredible.
00:06That touchdown catch is going to go down in history as one of the greatest plays in Alabama
00:09football history.
00:10But here's something to watch.
00:11Kalen DeBoer is an exceptionally good coach.
00:14He's got this pattern, though.
00:15If they get out to big leagues, they're really good at coming out of the gate fast and then
00:20hanging on in the end.
00:22Like, that game they were up 28-0 and actually gave up the lead.
00:26The national semifinal last year, they were up two scores, and Texas came back and had
00:30passes into the end zone.
00:31They almost blew the lead twice against Oregon, both two-score leads.
00:35Last year, they got shut out in the second half against Oregon State.
00:39Kalen DeBoer's amongst the best in the game, but I kind of wanted to keep battling, keep
00:42hanging in there.
00:43It's something that, you know, it might just be a coincidence, but you shouldn't be surprised
00:47when teams come back against Kalen DeBoer teams.
00:49But, unbelievable game.
00:52The game was amazing.
00:53I, unfortunately, didn't get to watch all of it because Michigan State was playing at
00:57the same time, and I didn't have the awesome setup that you did in the command center.
01:02So I was, I caught most of the second half, though, and it was so amazing.
01:06So much talent on that field between those two teams.
01:09That amazing 17-year-old wide receiver is, it's insane how good he is and how fast he
01:15is.
01:16Milrow is poised on and off the field.
01:18I love Jalen Milrow as a person.
01:20Like, he's great.
01:22And the atmosphere epitomizes what college football is all about.
01:25As far as DeBoer is concerned, you might be right with that, and that's something he's
01:29going to have to figure out.
01:30But something that the rest of the nation is going to have to figure out, this Alabama
01:34team is not a Nick Saban team.
01:36It's a DeBoer team.
01:37So Kalen DeBoer is going to put his own stamp on it.
01:40It's going to be different football, and I think people are just expect, oh, this is,
01:43this is what Saban would, no, it's different.
01:45It's totally different.
01:47It turned out to be a great game.
01:48In that first half, Alabama was eating the dogs.
01:52That's right.
01:53It was terrible in the first half.
01:54I mean, I thought, I thought I'd left them for dead.
01:56What?
01:57They weren't.
01:58The Georgia Dogs, right?
01:59I mean, I'd left Georgia for dead.
02:01It looked terrible.
02:02Beck looked completely lost.
02:05He had no idea where he was throwing the ball.
02:07But the second half, what a comeback.
02:09And to take the lead, incredible.
02:11Obviously, a great game in the second half.
02:13Ryan Williams is unreal, 17 years old, ridiculous.
02:19All right, the Big Ten and SEC are meeting in Nashville next week.
02:22The topic of discussion will be to guarantee four teams each in the college football playoff.
02:28Do you like this or not, Gator?
02:30Not even a little.
02:31I think this is the epitome of arrogance that can come from the SEC and the Big Ten.
02:36Unfortunately, we're lumped into it.
02:38I hate it.
02:39It's disgusting.
02:40You have to earn your way.
02:41What happened to that?
02:42We're going to guarantee each conference gets four?
02:45Look, you may each get four in because the conferences are that tough, but you don't
02:49guarantee anything.
02:51What you guarantee is that your champions get in there, and likely your runner-ups are
02:54going to get in there.
02:55And that's it.
02:56And I say likely, because who knows what happens from one year to the next.
03:00But to guarantee four from each conference?
03:03It's disgusting.
03:04I'm so disappointed in hearing the Big Ten was a part of that.
03:06I love the Big Ten, but think about this, because things change.
03:10They're cyclical, and conferences go from being stronger to less strong.
03:15Imagine if the ACC has a 12-0 Miami, 11-1 Virginia Tech, and a 10-2 Clemson.
03:23And 10-2 Clemson doesn't get in because they have to guarantee a spot for an eight-and-four
03:27Penn State team.
03:30If they're not going to guarantee spots, they really do need to pay attention to strength
03:34of schedule.
03:36And they really need to allow teams to have some losses to get in.
03:39But I agree.
03:40You can't do this.
03:41Yeah, I don't like this either.
03:44But this is not college football.
03:46This is not what the college football I loved growing up and watching.
03:49Everything's changing so rapidly.
03:52Do I like this?
03:53No, I don't.
03:54If it's going to make them money and give them more teams to market, super teams, everyone
03:58likes stars and star teams.
04:01They're probably going to try to find a way to get something, if not exactly like this,
04:04something close to this.
04:05But no, I don't like this.
04:07And I don't think any of the real college purist football fans will, but is this something
04:12we have to get used to?
04:14It passes, and then we find out, hey, this actually kind of sucks, and they go back the
04:17old way.
04:18But I don't like it.
04:20All right, freshmen, wide receivers.
04:23We spoke of one earlier.
04:24Alabama's Ryan Williams and Ohio State's Jeremiah Smith.
04:27Which one is better?
04:30Chalk this up as an impossible question to answer.
04:33Smith has 19 catches for 364 yards and five touchdowns.
04:36Williams, 16 catches, 462 and five touchdowns.
04:40But we have to split hairs.
04:42So I'm going to make the weakest of arguments.
04:44I'm going with Smith because he's bigger.
04:48That's it.
04:49That's all I got.
04:50Listen, these are weak arguments, right?
04:53Because these two might be the best receivers in college football.
04:57They're both amazing.
04:58Are they both 17?
05:00Or is one finally turn 18?
05:01I don't know.
05:02They're both great.
05:03I'm going to go with Williams because I think he's faster.
05:08I mean, you think.
05:11I think.
05:12This is an incredibly difficult question.
05:14Love, love both these receivers.
05:17I actually think Smith probably checks more boxes.
05:20But I'm going to take Williams because he's got something that's so intoxicating to me.
05:24That's game-breaking speed and ability.
05:26He's got that home run threat every single time he touches the ball.
05:30He's a unicorn.
05:31And I think it's harder to find that type of receiver than Smith, even though I think
05:34Smith may be better overall as a receiver.
05:37But we're splitting hairs, like you guys said.
05:40All right, Army and Navy are both 4-0.
05:43Could either one of these teams make the Group of Five playoff?
05:46I mean, they could.
05:48They have to kind of run the table here.
05:51I think Navy's got a better shot because they have the win over Memphis and everybody likes
05:54Memphis as a team.
05:55And I think they're 4-1, so it's their only loss.
05:58Both teams get to play Notre Dame and each other.
06:01So there is that chance.
06:03I just think Navy has that advantage over Army because of the Memphis win.
06:08But yeah, obviously if they run the table, either team will be in the playoff.
06:12It's fascinating.
06:13If you take a look, Army's diversified their offense a little bit and they have a slightly
06:17easier schedule, but only slightly.
06:19And football, ESPN and FBI both rank them with less than 1% chance of running the table.
06:25But I think Army sticks around longer because they play Notre Dame late and maybe they'll
06:29have some belief at that time that they can steal that Group of Five playoff spot.
06:33Here's a fascinating scenario, though.
06:35You know that the selection Sunday is December 8th, and Army and Navy are scheduled to play
06:41December 14th.
06:42How are they going to handle that if one of these teams actually could get the Group of
06:46Five spot and still have a game to play?
06:49But I don't think they thought that one completely through.
06:52I'm kind of rooting for that chaos.
06:53Yeah, if one of these two teams could claim that last playoff spot, that'd be incredible.
06:57What a story.
06:58But do I think it's going to happen?
07:00Not even on a wishbone and a prayer, boys.
07:02Sorry.
07:03Clever.
07:05He's on fire.
07:06This guy.
07:07All right.
07:08We've talked about the Big Ten sleepers emerging from the past weeks, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska.
07:12But is Rutgers, their 4-0, are the Scarlet Knights the real Big Ten sleeper?
07:16I'm actually buying.
07:17I'm buying into a veteran quarterback.
07:19I'm buying into Kyle Madungai, and I'm buying into Greg Sciano.
07:22Yeah, I think Rutgers is going to be the team that emerges of that second tier of sleepers.
07:28No.
07:29Okay.
07:30Here's why Doug is going to say yes.
07:33And he already did it by getting to say the name Madungai.
07:37It's so much fun to say Madungai or Kaliakmanas.
07:41These are names that are going to be, you got to work at, and now it just rolls off
07:44the tongue.
07:45And that's why you like Rutgers.
07:47They're 4-0 record.
07:48It's fine.
07:49Boy, they do.
07:50They beat Washington by three points.
07:51They beat Virginia Tech.
07:52Oh my God.
07:53The Hokies.
07:54But you saw what Virginia Tech did to Miami.
07:57Okay.
07:58I'm not buying it at all.
07:59They're going to have a dose of reality this week when they're at Nebraska.
08:03I believe.
08:04And then the schedule really starts to stiffen up.
08:06No, sir.
08:07It's not about Rutgers at 4-0.
08:09I still like Indiana.
08:10That's a better story.
08:11Yeah.
08:12I'm not buying it yet either.
08:13Not as strongly as Gager.
08:14So it seems like he thinks there might be bad.
08:16I feel like.
08:17It's not even bad.
08:18No, I'm kidding.
08:19Doug's biased.
08:20This is hard to do week in and week out.
08:22You separate the good teams from the teams that just happen to win every now and then
08:26or kind of surprise other teams.
08:28I'll be impressed though if they beat Nebraska.
08:30That would be very impressive.
08:31I might have to start buying then.
08:33But as of right now, not yet.
08:34Does RG Diacono play for them too, Doug?
08:36Not anymore.
08:37Okay.
08:42Okay.
08:43College game day is going to Cal for the first time Saturday for 5-0 Miami at Cal.
08:47Cal's 3-1.
08:49That leaves Illinois, Maryland, Rutgers, Syracuse, and Virginia as the only schools game day
08:53has not visited.
08:54Who's next?
08:55You know, it's funny.
08:56I looked at all the schedules, remaining schedules for all those teams.
08:59Nobody plays anybody at home.
09:01All the big games that they would have, like if they were to do something nice, then they
09:04go on the road to play, you know, Oregon or something like that.
09:08It's just not going to work out for them this year.
09:10But in 2029, Illinois on an October afternoon, they're going to take on an Ohio state team
09:20and it's going to be a battle of number 23, Illinois taking on number four, Ohio state.
09:26But only, I have one caveat, only if Brett Bielema is still coaching because NAL will
09:31be solved by that point.
09:33This is funny because I think, I think Virginia is going to host in 10 days.
09:39Gators got 2029.
09:41If Virginia gets passed, wins their next game, and that's BC Saturday, Virginia will be 4-1
09:50hosting number 22 Louisville, who's got SMU this week, and Louisville will be 4-1.
09:55And I think game day is going to want to check the box.
09:58So I'm going to take Virginia hosting on October 12th.
10:01October 12th?
10:02Yep.
10:03I'm sorry.
10:04October 12th?
10:05Yep.
10:06Isn't that like a big weekend of some games?
10:07Like you got Ohio state and Oregon.
10:10Yep.
10:11Penn state and USC.
10:12Yep.
10:13It's like the best weekend of the entire year.
10:16They're going to be in Charlotte, Paloma.
10:20You're right, Doug.
10:21Good call.
10:22All right.
10:232029?
10:24Are you kidding me?
10:25I called my shot.
10:26I even said it.
10:27I said the matchup.
10:28I said the afternoon.
10:29In October.
10:302029, baby.
10:31Give us the weather.
10:3254 is partly cloudy.
10:33There we go.
10:34If I have to, I'm going to go right now, Illinois-Michigan.
10:39It's on the schedule this year, Illinois is hosting Michigan.
10:43So Michigan can, you know.
10:45They got to get past Washington.
10:46Exactly.
10:47Illinois can host that game day.
10:48All right.
10:49There you go.
10:50That's the Transfer Porter NIL Marching Band thingy.
