20 August - National weather forecast presented by Dan Stroud.
Transcript
00:00Hello, we have a bit of a north-west, south-east split developing in the forecast and it does
00:06mean we do see a fair amount of mist and low and fog actually featuring in the forecast
00:11over the coming few days. But looking at the pressure sequence, we currently have high
00:17pressure to the south and that is helping to keep it largely fine and dry across much
00:22of England and Wales. Further to the north and west we do have this area of low pressure
00:27and that area of low pressure is already driving thicker cloud with outbreaks of rain
00:34in across parts of western Scotland and Northern Ireland and that will continue during the
00:39early hours of Monday. Further to the south across England and Wales we have largely clear
00:44skies and that does mean we do see a little bit of low cloud, mist and fog forming by
00:49dawn, especially across the south and east. Overnight temperatures remaining comfortably
00:54in double figures right the way across the country, although step out into the countryside
00:59and you can take a degree or so off these values. So it's a bright start with any early
01:05morning mist and fog quickly lifting across the south and east, leaving behind wall-to-wall
01:12sunshine across much of eastern England. We do see slightly clouded conditions further
01:17west and that band of cloud and rain is edging in from the west across Scotland, where we
01:23also see those winds starting to actually strengthen. Temperatures on Monday afternoon
01:29will be slightly higher than the values we saw on Sunday, but with those slightly breezier
01:35conditions for many, especially in the west, it will feel a little bit fresher out there.
01:41Now that band of cloud and rain across the north will continue to edge eastwards during
01:46the course of Monday evening and that rain will become locally heavy and persistent across
01:52parts of Scotland overnight. Again, some early morning mist and fog forming across the south
01:59and east and that changeable pattern continues with low pressure continuing to dominate the
02:05pitch to the north and that will gradually win out, turning widely showery for many of
02:10us by the middle of the week and those temperatures peaking across the south midweek before it
02:17turns cooler as we move towards the weekend. Bye for now.
