00:00Good afternoon. Welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office. Storm Ashley is
00:05arriving overnight tonight and into the start of Sunday, bringing some very wet and windy
00:09weather for much of the UK. But before it does arrive, we have a brief ridge of high
00:13pressure across the UK and a frontal band out in the very far southeast. But it's as
00:17Storm Ashley arrives overnight tonight and in through much of Sunday, we'll see those
00:21ice bars really spaced close together, so bringing some very strong winds for much of
00:25the UK. Back to the rest of today, though, and we've got that brief ridge of high pressure
00:29bringing some slightly more settled conditions. The frontal band out in the far southeast
00:33will bring some outbreaks of rain for eastern parts of England for a time, but for most
00:37of us, it'll be a dry day with plenty of sunny spells, maybe one or two isolated showers
00:41across some western coasts, particularly northwestern parts of Scotland. But for most of us, it'll
00:45be a dry rest of the afternoon. It'll be feeling pleasant as well in that sunshine. Temperatures
00:50are a little above average for the time of year, 16, 17, maybe 18 degrees in the south
00:55and 13 or 14 degrees further north. As we go through the rest of Saturday, the outbreaks
01:01of rain across the very far east will eventually clear offshore and it'll remain dry for most
01:05of us to start the night. But cloud will then thicken from the southwest as we see that
01:09first band of rain associated with Storm Ashley pushing its way eastwards into the early hours
01:14of Sunday morning. We'll also see those winds picking up, particularly through Irish Sea
01:18coastal regions where we could see gusts of 50 or 60 miles an hour into the early hours
01:23of Sunday. It will be quite a mild start to the day on Sunday, particularly under all
01:27that cloud and with those strong winds, although just a little cooler across the very far east
01:31of Scotland where they hold on to those clearest skies for a time. But as we then start on
01:35Sunday, that area of rain pushes through eastwards relatively quickly with those brisk southwesterly
01:41breeze, brisk southwesterly winds. But it's in the far north of Scotland and the west
01:45of Scotland that we'll see those winds continue to increase as we go through Sunday afternoon.
01:49We could see gusts here of 70 to 80 miles an hour and in association with some high
01:54spring tides, we could see some coastal flooding in places. As that rain band clears through,
01:59there will be some sunny spells across much of England and Wales, but the next area of
02:03rain then arrives across western parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland through Sunday
02:07afternoon. Temperatures will be pretty similar to what we're seeing today, still highs of
02:1117 or 18 degrees in the south, so a little above average for the time of year, but definitely
02:15feeling a little cooler with those brisk southwesterly winds. As we then go through
02:20the rest of Sunday, that area of rain across the northwest pushes its way eastwards across
02:24much of Northern Ireland and Scotland, so some very heavy outbreaks of rain here and
02:28those winds continuing to be very strong as we go through Sunday evening, but generally
02:32a little bit lighter and a little bit drier across much of England and Wales. Still remaining
02:37windy as we go into the start of Monday morning, but make sure you subscribe to our YouTube
02:41channel to keep up to date with the latest forecast. Bye bye.
