00:00What's up guys, today we will be comparing the Galaxy S22 Ultra to the Pixel 7 Pro.
00:06Which older flagship should you pick up here in 2024?
00:10Let's go ahead and dive in.
00:11Let's start off with the price here.
00:13You can find the Pixel 7 Pro a little bit cheaper, around $326 is the cheapest that
00:17I'm seeing it.
00:18And the S22 is about $399.
00:22So you are going to pay just a little bit more for the S22 Ultra here.
00:26So definitely take that into consideration.
00:29Always be sure to cross check platforms and stuff like that as well.
00:33Alright, so let's go ahead and dive in here.
00:36So let's talk about the hardware here.
00:38So I think both phones have aged really well as far as the hardware.
00:43I do think the Pixel 7 Pro is a little bit easier to hold.
00:47It's not as sharp and boxy as the S22 Ultra.
00:51So it's just a little bit easier to hold.
00:53They're both pretty big phones as well too.
00:55As you can see about the same size here.
00:58Now you do have a matte finish on the S22 which it doesn't pick up fingerprints really
01:04which is something that I really like.
01:05But this version of the Pixel that I have, it's the white version, it's glossy but it
01:10doesn't pick up fingerprints.
01:11Now if you had like a black version or something like that then you would see smudges and stuff.
01:15But this one is a really clean one so I really like this color.
01:19They're both IP68 dust and water resistant as well.
01:22You can see the camera design on both of these phones as well too.
01:27You can see very unique looking as well.
01:30And so I think the designs have aged really well.
01:33They're not too far off from the latest Galaxy and Pixel phones.
01:39But yeah, the one trick that the S22 Ultra has up its sleeve is actually the S Pen support.
01:45So this could be a big feature for you if you're a digital artist or if you're somebody
01:50who really prefers to navigate with a pen and use your phone.
01:56Pixel Samsung has a ton of features on here as well too.
02:00As far as smart select, screen write, and obviously the note taking and stuff like that.
02:05You can use it to take photos as well.
02:07So if you are a content creator, you know, you can kind of, you know, take photos and
02:13take videos and stuff like that and use your S Pen for that since it is Bluetooth.
02:18So definitely a very handy tool.
02:21So definitely take that into consideration as well too.
02:25Alright, so let's take a look at both displays here.
02:28So we got really great displays on both of these phones here.
02:33So you do have the 6.7 inch LTPO AMOLED display on the Pixel, it's 120Hz HDR10+, 1500 nits
02:42peak brightness.
02:43It is a curved display.
02:44And then you also do have 1440p resolution, 512 for the PPI.
02:49And on the S22, you do have a 6.8 inch display, so it is a slightly bigger display.
02:55And then it's the Dynamic AMOLED, 120Hz HDR10+, with a slightly higher max brightness at 1750
03:03nits peak brightness.
03:05It is also 1440p and 500 for the PPI.
03:09So you can see a lot of similarities.
03:10This is also a curved panel as well too.
03:13And they actually look pretty, you know, pretty similar in terms of color.
03:18The S22 is definitely a little bit more saturated, a little bit more colorful.
03:22But for the most part, yes, technically the S22 Ultra, it does have the better display
03:28here when we talk about max brightness.
03:31But besides that, that's pretty much it.
03:34Like I said, they're really similar.
03:36And I would definitely give points to the Pixel 7 Pro for being easier to hold as well
03:42too.
03:43So I definitely think you should take that into consideration.
03:47But yeah, two excellent displays, so you really can't go wrong with either of these.
03:51Alright, so let's talk about the specs here.
03:53So on the Pixel 7 Pro, you have the Tensor G2 processor, 128GB of internal storage, 12GB
04:00of RAM.
04:01The S22 has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, and you have 128GB and 8GB of RAM.
04:07These are the base models.
04:09Alright, so you can see there is a bit of a score difference here, but not by much.
04:14The S22 comes out on top in the single core and also the multi-core slightly.
04:20But it's not really that big of a deal when it comes to the overall performance of these
04:25two phones.
04:26I find that both these phones are really, really smooth in terms of launching applications
04:31and just getting into apps really smoothly here.
04:35So if you get into a quick little app launch here, you can see they roughly feel the same,
04:41especially when it comes to smoothness and scrolling.
04:44I do think the Pixel feels a little bit smoother.
04:48I've always thought the Pixels were really smooth when it comes to the animation consistency.
04:54But yeah, they both, you know, 120Hz screens, both really, really smooth.
05:03So let's go to Play Store.
05:08You can see basically the same thing here.
05:12Now I think you'll notice a slight difference when you get into like launching games.
05:17The S22 should be a little bit faster.
05:24So yeah, it'll be a little bit faster on the S22 when you're launching anything a little
05:29bit heavier.
05:30But the Pixel on this base model should have better RAM management as well too since it
05:34has more RAM.
05:35It can hold more applications in the background as well.
05:38All right, so here's what you will notice here with the gaming performance and stuff
05:44like that.
05:45The Tensor does a pretty good job, but you can see there's no 90 frames.
05:50Now it can play PUBG HDR 60 just fine, no issue.
05:54So the gaming performance is just fine on here.
05:56It's not, you know, a big deal.
05:59But I would say if you're more of a competitive gamer, then you're probably going to go with
06:05the S22 here because it is a little bit more optimized.
06:09You can see it has the 90 frame settings on here.
06:13So you know, you get the faster frame rates and you'll see this consistently through,
06:18you know, Call of Duty, Fortnite, Genshin, it's just going to perform a little bit better
06:23on the S22.
06:24So I would say if you're an overall competitive gamer, I would definitely go with the S22
06:29Ultra here.
06:30But both phones can definitely game, no problem.
06:33If you're a more casual gamer, you know, the Pixel is just fine.
06:36All right, so we got both of these guys at max volume.
06:39So let's go ahead and hear them.
06:41We'll start with the S22.
07:03So I feel like there's really no competition here.
07:12The Pixel 7 Pro easily has the better speakers.
07:16I've always said this, the S22 Ultra speakers are probably some of Samsung's worst speakers.
07:21And they're not terrible, but for a flagship device, like when this first came out, how
07:26expensive it was, these were not good.
07:30It's just really flat sounding, there's no bass.
07:36You can even hear the low bass notes on the Pixel.
07:38So really good on the Pixel 7 Pro, easily takes this one.
07:42All right, so this is some, you know, an area where the Pixel 7 Pro actually does not win.
07:52So this is the fingerprint scanner.
07:53So it has a optical fingerprint scanner, which works fine.
07:57But I really like the ultrasonic one in the S22 Ultra here, because you can kind of lightly
08:02tap it.
08:04With the optical ones, you have to slightly put a little bit of pressure, and you can
08:07just kind of lightly tap it really fast.
08:10And this one, you kind of just, you know, apply a little bit of pressure.
08:13It's a very small thing, and it's not really a big deal, but it's just something that,
08:17you know, I've noticed.
08:18All right, so let's talk about the camera.
08:21So this was a really interesting thing.
08:25So let me know what you guys think of these side-by-side stills.
08:27So the S22 Ultra has a 108-megapixel standard.
08:31You have the 100x zoom on here as well, too.
08:34And then you also have a 10-megapixel telephoto, 3x optical, 10-megapixel periscope with 10x
08:41optical, 12-megapixel ultrawide, and then 8K 24-video, 40-megapixel selfie that shoots
08:47in 4K60.
08:49The Pixel has a 50-megapixel standard, and its max zoom is 30x.
08:56And then you also do have on here a 48-megapixel telephoto with 5x optical, 12-megapixel ultrawide.
09:04It shoots in 4K60 only, and then it has a 10.8-megapixel selfie cam that shoots in 4K60.
09:12So check out these side-by-side stills.
09:14Let me know what you guys think of the image processing.
09:16Which phone do you think takes the better photo?
09:46Let me know in the comments below, and I'll see you in the next video.
10:16Bye!
10:47Alright, so lastly I want to talk about battery life.
10:53So battery life is actually very similar on these two devices.
10:58Not super, super impressive battery life.
11:01I will say that throughout the years, the updates have increased the battery life with
11:06these phones.
11:07Definitely standby time is a little bit better than when I first got them, especially with
11:11the S22 Ultra.
11:12The battery life is actually much better with the OneUI 6.1 update as far as standby
11:16time goes.
11:18But besides that, they both have 5000mAh batteries.
11:22The S22 Ultra does have a leg up in terms of fast charging.
11:26It's 45 watts versus the Pixel's 23 watts, so that's definitely something.
11:31But you also have faster wireless charging on the Pixel with 23-watt wireless charging
11:36versus the 15.
11:38They also can both do reverse wireless charging as well too.
11:42So two really excellent phones.
11:45It's kind of hard to say which one to get, honestly.
11:48I was really impressed with the cameras.
11:50You guys know I'm a big fan of the Pixel.
11:53I think this is going to come down to software.
11:56I think that's going to be a big thing as well too.
11:58Do you like the stock Pixel?
12:00Do you like the Google Experience?
12:02I think that's a big player.
12:04Also the Pixel is a little bit cheaper.
12:05But you also have the S Pen on here as well with the S22 Ultra.
12:09You have all the Samsung's features like desktop support.
12:12So definitely a tough decision here.
12:15Both really excellent phones.
12:16They shine.
12:17They're just doing so well in 2024.
12:20So let me know what you guys think.
12:22Which phone would you personally pick up?
12:24And I'll catch you guys in the next one.
