00:00Here's the one thing I was thinking is, I get it's early, they've only played four games,
00:05but if you're trying to do what Steve Kerr says he's going to try to do, which is play
00:10a lot of guys, I don't know if it's going to be 10, 11, 12, more than that, less than
00:16that, but if you're trying to do that and you start 1-3, then you've got some early
00:23challenges already and people start thinking, well, you can't do that in the NBA.
00:28And look, you're 1-3, the difference is you're 3-1, and you've done it that way, and now
00:34maybe you start thinking to yourself, huh, I wonder if they've got a little something
00:38here.
00:39Where are you, Warrior fans?
00:40888-957-9570.
00:41I know there were a lot of Warrior fans out there that were a little bit skeptical about
00:48this team, and you can still be skeptical about this team because it's still unbelievably
00:53early, but the early returns have to be pretty positive, and I'm just wondering if you're
00:59a Golden State Warrior fan who was coming into this season wondering or worrying about
01:03where this team was headed, do you feel a little better about where it might be going?
01:08888-957-9570, and a lot of stuff happened last night, Goo, and most of it good.
01:15Yeah, no doubt, and it starts with, for me, Stoney, Lindy Waters III, team high plus 26,
01:22and when I watched that game in the comeback, I was like, damn, my boy is not returning
01:26the Cinderella slippers, if you even want to call it that.
01:29He was balling, taking a chance, or making the most of an opportunity, but Stoney, I'm
01:34going to say this to you all, because I'm looking at life different.
01:37I'm always positive, but now I'm super positive, but the one thing that's a negative is, you
01:42know, we haven't seen McCaffrey play football in eight games, and the Niners got to do with
01:45that what they have, and he'll come back, and then you get to see him, but this early,
01:51there's no Curry, you know, there's no Wiggins, who was coming off a big game, so I love all
01:56of this, and you're right, especially a three-and-one record, but I do scratch my head, Stoney,
02:00as to, I don't know, I don't expect Curry back tonight, we know that.
02:04His availability on this five-game road trip, but I guess I'm telling you, Stoney, I'm worried
02:09about stuff I can't control, but I'd like the team to be whole, and then we can mature
02:15and grow, and kind of watch it manifest, you know, at full strength, as opposed to now,
02:23you know, Waters is getting Curry shots, and he's making the most of it, but that's the
02:26only drawback I have to the injuries, is, like, three guys were out last night.
02:31Yeah, and that's where, I guess you and I are different, because I look at three guys
02:36being out as a positive, because they were able to win by 20, and the one thing I was
02:44thinking about with this team, and I got a buddy out in the East Bay, his name's Don,
02:49he's a retired police officer, and he texted me last week after the Warriors and Steve
02:58Kerr said they were going to play a lot of guys, 12, 13 guys, or at least try, and he
03:02suggested that maybe that's just a different way to load-manage, and I started thinking
03:08about it that way, and I think he might be on to something.
03:12In other words, under normal circumstances, let's say you had Wiggins tonight, and you
03:19were thinking maybe, maybe not, should he go, should he not go, I mean, I think what
03:24we're going to see this year is, you know what, don't go tonight.
03:28If you're not ready to play, don't go, because we've got guys who are going to be at 100%.
03:34And so maybe this will just be a way to keep everybody's minutes down, and then some certain
03:41it'll be a way to keep their number of games played down.
03:44So again, it's not going to come without challenges as the season moves forward, but for right
03:51now, I can't say I don't like the idea.
03:55Yeah, and I'll just say this to that, and I hope I'm not coming off negative, but you
03:59can't control when an injury's going to happen.
04:01You know, when you're out there, even if you had the night off the game before, there's
04:07still a risk involved once you get out there and play.
04:09So I'm with you, I like what I saw last night by a litany of dudes, and I got to be honest,
04:17the connectivity thing that we talked about, or what's, you know, the doom and gloom, whoever
04:22was the cloud's head that was over, if it were clay or whatnot, you can tell something's
04:28been lifted.
04:29Well, and here's this, and this is just the way I'll respond, and I don't mean it personally,
04:35but here's from the Comcast Business Text Line from the 650.
04:38Lindy Waters is going to take minutes from Moses Moody.
04:42I think he is.
04:43I wouldn't be surprised if Lindy Waters starts at some point.
04:46You know what?
04:47Good.
04:48Good.
04:49Good.
04:50If Lindy Waters takes minutes from Moses Moody, then that means he's playing better than Moses
04:54Moody.
04:55And Moses Moody's got a new contract, $39 million, starting next year, over three years.
05:03We know Moses Moody will always be ready.
05:06Would you make him last night up close?
05:0818 minutes?
05:09Start off a little slow.
05:11He was OK.
05:12He was good down the stretch, obviously, although there wasn't really much of a down the stretch.
05:16But this team is definitely faster and more athletics, Donnie.
05:19And they're much better.
05:20They have the ability to be a much better defensive team than they have in the past.
05:25I think that's pretty obvious also.
05:26They coughed 23 turnovers from the Pelicans last night.
05:29That got them back in the game.
05:31Yeah, it's funny.
05:32You know, maybe I was thinking, huh, boy, the Pelicans really turned it over.
05:35Maybe that's because they didn't have their point guard, DeJounte Murray.
05:38And yet then the Warriors are without Curry, and they barely turned the ball over at all.
05:42I think they had seven total turnovers.
05:45But let's get into it with Warrior fans.
05:47I want to take the temperature of Golden State fans and see how you're feeling four games
05:53into the year.
05:54Let's go to Vince.
05:55Start us out, Vince, in the city.
05:56What's up, Vince?
05:57How you doing, man?
05:58Hey, what's up, guys?
05:59Hopefully you can hear me.
06:00I'm coming off the bridge.
06:01To be honest, I didn't really have any expectations going into this season.
06:09I didn't know how this team was going to work.
06:11But I'll tell you what, I'm way more high on this team than the team that we had last
06:16year.
06:17I think the additions that we picked up are really, really good.
06:20I called last week, and I was saying, I think this team gives me a feel of 2015 with the
06:28veterans that they signed.
06:29And it just seems like the whole team is pretty much bought into the philosophy that they're
06:33using this year.
06:34If you look at the roster, they've got a lot of 3 and D guys.
06:40I think it's going to work.
06:41The only oddball on the team, and I don't even want to come down this guy's rope, but
06:47J.K. wanting the money that he wants, I feel like, could be an issue at some point, if
06:51it does.
06:52I mean, he was benched last night, and I know he felt some type of way about it.
06:56I hope it doesn't turn into anything.
06:59Of the guys on the team, I think he might be the only me guy, quote-unquote.
07:04I'm not here to try to come down J.K.'s road.
07:07I still think he has a ton of potential.
07:09He's still really young, not only in age, but also in basketball years.
07:15But that also brings me to Lindy Waters, the guy on the 6.50, texting in.
07:20He is going to be taking minutes from somebody, and I'm wondering if...
07:25I see him and Moses Moody kind of being a similar type player, except Lindy is a little
07:29bit more athletic, like you said, Coach, but I feel like on this team, Lindy Waters is
07:36more of a fit for this offense and this team than J.K. is, and I just don't know if that
07:44had anything to do with J.K. not getting a deal.
07:48I read last week, too, that the Warriors had been eyeing Lindy Waters for a while, and
07:53they finally got a chance to get him, and he seems to be fitting in just fine.
07:58I mean, yeah, he certainly does seem to be fitting in just fine.
08:04Let me read this text, just because we love her, 9-2-5, quick vent, GP2, Looney, Waters
08:10and Melton are all playing for contracts, J.K. is just one guy, vent done, Dublin, Marge.
08:16I said that Kamiga's the only guy playing for a contract, I mean, technically you're
08:21right, Marge, but, I mean, Kamiga's a young player who was in his window, like Brandon
08:27Ayuk was, to get his big money, and he didn't get it, and I just think that's a much different
08:32dynamic than a couple veteran players like Peyton and Looney and Waters and Melton, who
08:38have been in this position before, but your point's taken.
08:42What do you get me for this, Donnie, from a Kamiga standpoint, through his prism?
08:47The fact that this team is so deep, I don't think bodes well for him.
08:52Not that he can't ball out, everything's in front of him for him to take advantage of,
08:56but when you're telling me this team, and we're watching now, it's deeper, and they
08:59decided not to put the ring on it, you know, you can get lost, and to his credit, whatever
09:05went down with Texgate, he wasn't benched, he didn't start, he handled it well, because
09:11you're right, had he been 1-9 and didn't put up any numbers, then what would we be talking
09:16about?
09:17I'd just say that to say is, I would tell Kamiga, man, you need to, duh, be consistent,
09:23because this team is so deep, and you can't be forgotten about.
09:29That doesn't help him that this team added three guys that can play, and are OGs, and
09:36got the basketball IQ, you know?
09:38I mean, I'll say the same thing, you know, Lindy Waters is going to take minutes from
09:42Moody, it's good.
09:45If Jonathan Kamiga can't get on the floor, there'll be a reason why he can't get on the
09:48floor, and it's because the guy who's playing instead of him is playing better.
09:53Like this is, there is no way, and I don't understand, I mean, not that I don't understand,
10:01I don't know how good this team's going to be.
10:03Right, that's what makes it exciting, too.
10:07But, he's just one player on this team.
10:11He's going to play in the league for ten more years.
10:14It might be with the Warriors, it might not.
10:16But like, the one thing that, I don't know, I don't, it's not about Kamiga, but it's just
10:23not.
10:24I feel ya.
10:25It's just not.
10:27But meet me halfway.
10:29He was, he's got, he was your future, the brightest chip of your future, and apparently
10:33he isn't, and he never was.
10:38He had an opportunity in his first, he had an opportunity in his first four years to
10:45play to a level where the Warriors would have found a number that he and the team could
10:48agree on.
10:49They both couldn't find that number.
10:52I hate to, go play.
10:55Go play.
10:56No, that's what it is.
10:57And let me tell you something.
10:58That's what he represented to me, Stani, he was the future.
11:00Well, that's fine.
11:01And he still could be the future, but it's all up to him.
11:06And you just cannot, cannot focus on one guy when we see 11 or 12 guys who at least
11:15at this point are buying in.
11:16And listen, I'm, and this is no knock on Kamiga, I just, I just think that he's, he can't be
11:25the focal point of this team kind of with the fans because there's too much other good
11:31stuff going on, at least right now.
11:33And that's why the coach didn't have him in the starting lineup by choice.
11:36Well, it's funny and we can, send in that message loud and clear.
11:39Well, the interesting part was how Kerr explained it and the way he explained it, I actually
11:45kind of get it, but I also understand that people would say that's BS.
11:51And what I mean by that is you got Jonathan Kamiga and you're going into a game without
11:55Curry and without the Anthony Melton and without Wiggins.
12:01So your first thought would be, okay, well, go get them, Jonathan Kamiga.
12:07But Steve Kerr said that one of the reasons they're going with the starting lineup when
12:12everybody's healthy of Curry, Wiggins and Kamiga, Draymond and Davis is because they
12:18feel like that could be their best defensive unit.
12:22So they understand, according to Steve Kerr, that they have spacing issues offensively
12:27with that team.
12:29But he says that because Curry's out there, he can alleviate that to a large enough degree
12:36that they can get away with it offensively if they're going to be a really good defensive
12:40team.
12:41So now we go to last night and they don't have Steph Curry and they don't have Wiggins.
12:47And what Kerr said was, without Steph, we can't play Draymond, Kamiga and Trace Jackson-Davis
12:57together without Steph because the spacing just is not good enough.
13:02That's why we're going to bring Jonathan Kamiga off the bench and he's going to play with,
13:06I think it was Gary Payton and somebody else.
13:09And I understand that, but I also understand what Evan says.
13:14Like, wait a minute, you're missing your two best scores and you're not going to start
13:18your third best score.
13:19Yeah, that's a head-scratcher, but again, if Steve Kerr can stay consistent about it
13:26not being about one guy, well then it's up to every player to accept what's going on
13:33and try to make the best of their situation and their role.
13:36And again, it's not the Golden State Kamigas, but Stani, when you come up with what Steve
13:42Kerr echoed, I guess if I'm Jonathan Kamiga, that means I'm not doing something if there's
13:48a formula or recipe that he's not.
13:51He can't shoot threes.
13:53So what do we do?
13:54You can't just play a guy, he had a good game, so he did his part.
13:59So that's all he can do.
14:01But the way I'm watching it from the guru computer, Stani, is this thing is headed in
14:06a direction to where not he can be forgotten about, but you got to make it to where your
14:12coach can't say that into a microphone.
14:15You're not starting because.
14:17You got to eliminate all that.
14:20Maybe he can or maybe he can't.
14:22Here's what Steve Kerr said about Kamiga.
14:24Without Steph and Wiggs, I didn't want to start Trace, Draymond and JK.
14:33I wanted a little more spacing and I knew it would be a JK game.
14:38I knew he would play a lot because he's played well against his team.
14:42The matchups are good for him.
14:44And as I told him before the game, you're going to play a lot.
14:47This is just about combinations and getting a little more spacing on the floor to start.
14:52So all it is is just shuffling the lineup to try to get the right five-man grouping
14:59on there.
15:00But without Steph and Wiggs, to me, it didn't make sense to start the three bigs without
15:08those cards.
15:09All right.
15:10There you have it.
15:11I mean, I think it's sound basketball philosophy, but you do run the risk of, I don't want to
15:19say losing a young player, because he came off the bench and he played well, at least
15:23in the second half.
15:24But team first, if you don't like it, hit the pike.
15:31That's the way I look at it.
15:32I really do.
15:34And I told this story yesterday, Gu, about my father.
15:37Well, maybe it was yesterday.
15:38I repeat myself a lot.
15:40Kamiga's got to make himself so valuable that Steve Kerr can't keep him off the floor.
15:46And right now, he's not so valuable that Steve Kerr must play Jonathan Kamiga 30, 35 minutes.
15:53And I don't want to go Mari Povich on you, Stoney, but we just heard that soundbite from
15:57Coach Kerr telling him he told JK he was going to play a lot.
16:01What do you make of JK saying, that wasn't said to me?
16:04Yeah.
16:05I mean, that's where I'm like, oh boy.
16:07No, I'm not, oh boy.
16:09But I am.
16:10Okay, you can be.
16:11It's my microphone.
16:12I didn't say you have to be that.
16:13No, you can be.
16:14This is a two-man show.
16:15I'm not saying you don't have to be.
16:16I'm just saying we both have an opinion.
16:18That's what makes the show.
16:19I get so sick and tired when you say, somebody said something.
16:23You say I don't care.
16:24You misinterpreted.
16:25That's fine.
16:26You misinterpreted.
16:27Did I?
16:28Yeah, you did.
16:29No, but that's what makes us do what we do.
16:30You can talk about Kamiga all you want.
16:31He's one player on a 12-man team.
16:33Right.
16:34And he's not the most important player.
16:35Otherwise, he'd be playing.
16:36And I didn't say that.
16:37I just asked you, did you find it odd that he felt like he didn't get the message of
16:42he wasn't going to play a lot?
16:43No.
16:45I would expect him to be pissed off about it, but I would also not care about it.
16:48See, I didn't even put pissed off on it.
16:49Well, he is.
16:50I just thought it was strange that how Kerr said it went down, Kamiga said he wasn't told
16:56that.
16:57So, that's off-the-course stuff, but I think it matters.
16:59Kamiga was asked about not starting, and then Slater followed up and said, Jonathan, Steve
17:05Kerr told the media that he told you you weren't going to start, but that you were going to
17:09play a lot.
17:10Gotcha.
17:11And Kamiga said, nah.
17:12Right.
17:13Kamiga told me I was going to play with Draymond at the four and Payton at the three.
17:17But you know, the more you play good, the more you get minutes.
17:20At the end of the day, I'm still a professional.
17:22I'm going to want to do what I got to do.
17:24The end of the day, it's his decision.
17:26The other one, I, you know, yeah, okay.
17:28That's perfect.
17:29And here's, well, this one isn't.
17:30Well, first of all, that one's not great either.
17:32Go ahead.
17:33But here's the thing.
17:34Kamiga was asked about, he said, it wasn't my decision.
17:37It was the man himself, Coach Steve Kerr's decision.
17:40It wasn't my decision.
17:42Okay.
17:44Yeah.
17:45Kamiga's probably not happy.
17:46And that's, and I'm not saying you can't talk about him not being happy.
17:49But right now?
17:50So what?
17:51Yeah.
17:52That's what I'm saying too.
17:53Okay.
17:54That's all.
17:55I'm not saying, I just find that like we're giving Kamiga credit, or some people out here
17:59for, I don't want to, how do I put this?
18:02Taking the high road because he wasn't starting and he did everything he was supposed to do,
18:07especially in the second half, starting to have a career high in points and minutes,
18:11a season high.
18:13But that stuff matters to me, I believe more than we're giving it credence.
18:17See, I don't think it matters because I see 12 guys who are buying in and one guy can't
18:23screw that up.
18:24And here's the other thing.
18:25I'm not saying Kamiga's going to screw it up.
18:28I'm saying he's probably frustrated right now and he's got to figure out a way to get
18:32on the court as a starter if that's what he wants.
18:34Yeah.
18:35I mean, we know he wants it.
18:36But if he doesn't, he's just one guy on this team.
18:41I think that message has been sent.
18:43I hope so.
18:44888-957-9570.
18:45We've got Amani at 12 too, Stiney Montypool.
18:49Montypool, NBC Sports Bay Area at noon today.
18:53Let's go to, who's been waiting the longest?
18:56Let's go to George in Los Altos.
18:59What's up, George?
19:00How you doing, man?
19:01Brother, I'm doing good.
19:02Stiney, you've never been so right.
19:03What's that?
19:04I completely agree with everything you're saying.
19:12I am so upbeat about this Warrior team this year because I can't remember the last, we've
19:20never had three flamethrowers on the same team.
19:24I mean, you're not going to stop Buddy Hill, Lindy Waters, and Seth Curry for all three
19:30of them.
19:31One of them is going to be hot every game.
19:34Number two, to me, the most successful seasons the Warriors have had is when they had a strong,
19:41well-defined second unit.
19:44Going all the way back to the days of Shawn Livingston and David West and Leandro Barbosa,
19:49everybody knew their role.
19:51And we have a roster now that allows us to eventually get to the same spot.
19:57And if Jonathan is going to be a big baby because Steve Kerr is just doing his job as
20:03the coach, then you know what, brother?
20:05I mean, I love you, you're a good kid, you've got a great game, but if you're going to moan,
20:12go play someplace else.
20:13I'm sorry, go play someplace else.
20:14Thanks, George.
20:15No, I got you.
20:16Look, we're not there.
20:17We're not there with Jonathan Kuminga.
20:18I'm not there with Jonathan Kuminga.
20:19When you say there, you mean?
20:20Every player on the team has got to figure out their role as a coach.
20:21I'm not there.
20:22I'm not there.
20:23I'm not there.
20:24I'm not there.
20:25I'm not there.
20:26I'm not there.
20:27I'm not there.
20:28I'm not there.
20:29I'm not there.
20:30I'm not there.
20:31I'm not there.
20:32I'm not there.
20:33I'm not there.
20:34I'm not there.
