00:00Here's something that I don't care if somebody somewhere wants to call you a homer or wants
00:07to Charles Barkley all over the place.
00:10There is absolutely no shame in just saying this.
00:15Steph Curry is one of the greatest basketball players who's ever lived.
00:19I don't do Mount Rushmore.
00:21I don't do my top five.
00:24I don't do-
00:25You don't like rankings and lists.
00:26Whatever, dude.
00:27Whatever.
00:28Steph Curry is absolutely unequivocally one of the top handful of basketball players who
00:34have ever lived.
00:35And if you want to have a pound for pound conversation, quite frankly, there's a thousand
00:40ways to do it.
00:41If you want to have a pound for pound conversation, I don't mind if you say he's the best thing
00:45that's ever lived.
00:47Pound for pound?
00:48For me, it's not about the pounds.
00:49Of course.
00:50It's about the changing of the game.
00:52If you think about the evolution of the sport, there are only two or three, maybe four athletes
00:57who have ever changed the game like he did.
01:00Will Chamberlain was so dominant that they outlawed the dunk.
01:03They said no more dunking because all this guy does is dunk and it's not fair.
01:08It's like Tiger and Augusta.
01:09Exactly.
01:10They tried to Tiger-proof it, which didn't work.
01:12And so Steph made the three-pointer so available that now your kid and the kids that I ref,
01:17everyone's out there trying to hoist 27-footers.
01:20And they make one out of every 30, so that's an homage to his number.
01:24But it's because of him that they're all out there trying to jack him.
01:27Seth in Dublin.
01:30Hi Seth, thanks for calling.
01:32Guys, thank you for taking my call.
01:35Hey, those Waterloo sparkling waters from Costco, they do hit different.
01:39They hit, right Seth?
01:41Especially when they change the color of the price tag and it's only like eight bucks for
01:46that flat of 24 of them.
01:48Come on, Seth!
01:50It's the perfect amount of like flavor, but also like sparkling water.
01:56It's not too sweet.
01:57So I'm right there with you.
01:58Come on, Seth.
01:59Let's go.
02:00It's getting late on a Wednesday.
02:02I know, right?
02:04I was laughing yesterday when he opened it too.
02:07And they were like, wait, usually it's a beer.
02:10But anyway, not this guy.
02:12Not yet.
02:14So hey, my translation of Steph right in the camera.
02:18But first off, I've been all over the internet also trying to see what he actually said.
02:24And from what I've gathered is you miss it here or you wish you stayed here over and
02:30over again.
02:31That's what I'm getting.
02:33You miss it here or you wish you stayed here.
02:35So to me, honestly, it seemed like a burden was like almost lifted off of him.
02:42I'm trying not to read like too much into it.
02:44But I've just never, I've never really seen Steph with like that much animation.
02:50It almost seemed like an out with the old, in with the new.
02:54That's what I got from it.
02:56And then I also love Clay's postgame interview when he just kept saying over and over again,
03:02he was like, oh, man, it just sucks being on the other end of this.
03:06It sucks being on the other end of this.
03:08So anyway, guys, that's my comments.
03:10And thanks for taking the call.
03:11Yeah, Seth, thank you very much.
03:12And again, we've got what sounds like audio of the comment being, you better stay here.
03:19But it doesn't really matter.
03:20And I don't know definitively.
03:22To me, like some people seem to be translating this as potentially like coming from a place
03:28of vitriol.
03:30And I'm just trying to, again, through my eyes, this is bald.
03:34This is the way brothers speak, especially when it's within the framework of a game.
03:40You know, I think there are some people translating this to mean, oh, like, there's some feelings
03:44there, like, or they got problems or Steph's, you know, Steph's like, oh, you know, you
03:49shouldn't have left or whatever.
03:51I've never heard an NBA player, you know, think of the way the Warriors handled Durant
03:56through the years.
03:56They don't want someone to not do what's best for them, whether it's their money, their
04:03geography, their happiness, whatever.
04:06So I don't translate any of it to mean like, Clay, you did wrong.
04:11It's just within the framework of the game.
04:14You tried to beat me.
04:16It didn't work.
04:17Right.
04:17You want to beat me?
04:18You better stay here.
04:20Yeah, you got to stay here.
04:21You got to stay here if you want to win.
04:24But it didn't turn out that way for Clay because he's elsewhere for Steph in that moment, having
04:29to come back from seven down.
04:31If the Warriors were up 14 and he hits that same three to go up 17 and it's night-night,
04:37he doesn't have that same emotion.
04:38But that game looked like it was going to go Clay's way and Clay hit a couple of threes
04:42and he hit six in total.
04:44Clay was a big part of why Dallas was able to flip that game on its head and then look
04:49like they were in a great position to win.
04:51So when Steph does it again and resurrects a loss and turns it into a win, yeah, you're
04:56going to have that emotional response, especially when it's Clay.
04:59Heavyweight fight, man.
05:01Just an absolute heavyweight fight that was going back and back and forth, the emotional
05:06highs and lows.
05:07Here's Clay Thompson when he was asked what it was like to play against Steph and be on
05:12the wrong side of a Curry flurry.
05:15Well, it was fun to match up with Steph.
05:17I mean, we guarded each other plenty of times in practice with Team USA camps and all-star
05:21games.
05:22So a real competitive NBA game.
05:24It was pretty surreal.
05:24But after a few minutes, it was just basketball.
05:28Then, yeah, it hurts to be on the other side of one of his flurries.
05:33The guy got hot at the end and made some ridiculous shots.
05:37I know I've been on the other end and it sucks.
05:40But like I said before, I think we play them three more times.
05:44So hopefully we can learn from it and learn their tendencies a little better.
05:48But it sucks because this was a big game for the Cups.
05:51So some we just got to digest and move forward.
05:56For the Cup.
05:56Yeah, for the Cup.
05:57Thanks a lot, guys.
05:58Like, I mean, my gosh.
06:01Pull the curtain back on this.
06:02This all had nothing to do with the damn Cup, OK?
06:06I know everybody wants to like put the NBA narrative out there and it was a fun gray
06:11floor.
06:11And it had nothing to do with the Cup.
06:13And I don't care how many more times they play the Warriors.
06:15And you're saying it's not three.
06:16It's two.
06:17It's two.
06:17OK, fine.
06:18Doesn't matter.
06:19Well, those are for the Cup.
06:20Yeah.
06:20And they're also not on your return night.
06:24So spoiler alert, Clay, the next time you play the Warriors, it ain't going to feel
06:28like this.
06:29Right.
06:29Ever again.
06:30This one was more than just a regular season game in November because of the Cup.
06:35The NBA Cup.
06:36And because of Clay returning to chase him.
06:39Well, yeah, that and the fact that it was the Cup.
06:40And the Cup, yeah.
06:41I mean, if it was a non-Cup game, it would have been a nice little story.
06:44You should have grabbed a wireless mic and gone person to person, seat to seat tomorrow
06:49and ask them, OK, so if the Warriors win tonight, that's game one of the NBA Cup.
06:55What does that mean?
06:57And what happens next?
06:59And I would bet you, you would not get one correct answer.
07:04Out of 18,000 people.
07:07What comes up next is Memphis on Friday.
07:10And it's a virtual must win for Memphis if they want to stay in the Cup.
07:14And if the Warriors win that game on Friday, then they're in the catbird seat with just
07:18New Orleans and Denver left to make it into that last four and win the one thing that
07:25Steph has never won.
07:26Are you sure that Friday is an NBA Cup game as well?
07:29Of course.
07:30Are you positive?
07:31100%.
07:32You feel you feel very good about your statement?
07:34I mean, you could fade the dibber if you want about NFL picks.
07:38But when it comes to the NBA Cup, I wouldn't if I were you.
07:41OK.
07:42I have no idea.
07:43So I'm not challenging you at all.
07:45No, you can fade the dibber.
07:46No, I won't.
07:47That's coming up on tomorrow night on that.
07:49Yeah.
07:50Yeah.
07:50Boy, I'm cold, brother.
07:51It's not in colder than the weather, right?
07:53Yeah.
07:53I may have to fade myself on that, but we'll get to it.
07:57Claudia in San Diego.
07:59Hi, Claudia.
08:00Thanks for calling.
08:02No, thank you.
08:03Yeah.
08:04I just want to say I watched from home last night and I was just in my living room.
08:08So hype.
08:10It was awesome.
08:11That last three from Steph.
08:13Weird feeling hit different for sure.
08:15As a fan, I'm loving Clay.
08:18Probably one of my favorite players.
08:21But I wanted to I wanted to talk about the nine and two.
08:24Yeah.
08:24The nine and two it gave us.
08:26You know, you were saying that maybe Clay's thought was really his outburst was about
08:30Clay.
08:31And yeah, it probably was.
08:32But I really think it was the nine and two.
08:35Like they're technically first in the West.
08:37I heard somebody I don't know who was if it was Gil or Lou Williams or maybe it was you guys.
08:42I heard somebody say the Mavs are better than their record.
08:46And we'll see if the Warriors are as good as their record.
08:49And that win kind of.
08:52I don't know.
08:52What do you say?
08:53What do you say after after a win like that?
08:55Well, here's what I would say.
08:56And Claudia, thanks.
08:57I would say that the Warriors in the last thing on today's Wednesday.
09:03OK, so in the last seven days, the Warriors have what feels like more big time wins this
09:09year than they had all of last year.
09:11That's what it feels like.
09:12Right.
09:13And so nine and two is one way to pitch it.
09:16But the other way I would say it is it's not the record.
09:20It's how you got there.
09:22And the fact is, is that when you have nine and two, but tucked into your nine and two
09:29is essentially a last minute victory over the Mavericks who are in the finals last year
09:38and an emotional setting.
09:40You have a road win at Boston.
09:42You have a road win at Oklahoma City.
09:43I understand that there were missing pieces in those games and all of that stuff.
09:47I get all that.
09:48But when you have all of that as part of your nine and two, I don't I don't know any way
09:55to translate this other than confirmed, confirmed the Warriors are one of the factors in the
10:02NBA this year.
10:03For sure.
10:03And when you look at their schedule, they have three rugged road trips.
10:07They have two six game trips and a five game trip.
10:10And the first one, five game trip, you went four and one.
10:12Aced it.
10:13So, yeah, and you aced it against three teams that going into those games had a combined
10:18one loss.
10:19And, you know, Boston had one loss and you beat him.
10:22Cleveland was undefeated.
10:23You didn't beat him.
10:24And OKC had one loss and then you did beat him.
10:27And so those are three tough teams and you won two of the three.
10:31And if you look at the other future rugged road trips, you've got one coming up before
10:36the break at Utah, the Lakers, the Bulls, the Bucks, Dallas again, and then Houston,
10:42not as tough as this one.
10:43And then at the end of the year, you've got Atlanta, you've got San Antonio, you've got
10:48Memphis on that trip.
10:49So you do have two more tough road trips, but to go four and one and then come home
10:54and recover not once but twice against Dallas, because they had you down 10 or 11 in that,
11:00I think, third quarter, somewhere in the second quarter.
11:03You had them down those same numbers, but very early.
11:06It was a back and forth affair.
11:07And that was one of the ones that could have gone either way.
11:10By the way, you now you have a chance to really boogie with your schedule now for a
11:14little while.
11:15I'm not saying any game's easy.
11:16It's the NBA.
11:17They do have to go to L.A. on Monday and play the Clippers.
11:20But home to Memphis is coming.
11:22Home to Atlanta is coming.
11:24Your next road trip is New Orleans and San Antonio.
11:27Those are winnable games.
11:29You come back for Brooklyn at home like the Warriors have a chance in these next six or
11:34so games to win.
11:36I would say at least four of them, maybe five of them, and really put together a great start.
11:41And then right around Thanksgiving, it's going to get sexy again, because in fact, the day
11:47before Thanksgiving, OKC will be here.
11:50Remember, no Chet Holmgren.
11:52And then you got your back-to-back road trip to Phoenix and Denver.
11:56So that's at the very end of the month.
11:58And then the calendar turned into December.
12:00The next time we'll have more measuring sticks for the Warriors.
12:03Yeah, I heard Fitz earlier with Stiney and Gu, and he made a great point about the West
12:08versus the East.
12:09You've got 10 teams in the West that are above 500, and you've got two in the East that are
12:15above 500.
12:16Cleveland at 12-0, you lost two.
12:19Boston 9-3, you beat them.
12:21So a lot of this is about stacking wins.
12:24And you stack wins where you can.
12:26And when you take on these Eastern teams, you do want to kind of fatten up if you can.
12:31They already beat Milwaukee, which was a nice, fattening sort of victory.
12:34And the Boston win is kind of found money on the road.
12:38So in these games where you kind of should win, you need to go out there and handle it.
12:42But these other games, like last night, favored by two and a half, credit my partner for laying
12:48the two and a half and getting it done.
12:50Oh, it was an Ottoman game.
12:50Ottoman game.
12:51I was sitting there.
12:52I was counting money the whole night.
12:54Dude, no doubt.
12:54I'm like, this is a win.
12:55Funny, because you were standing behind me during the second quarter when the second
12:59unit couldn't get a bucket.
13:01And I shot a look over my shoulder.
13:03And I thought I heard a...
13:04I'm not pleased.
13:06I was not pleased.
13:07I was not pleased.
13:08Down 11 or whatever it was at some point.
