00:00If you're like what the offense isn't scoring enough and the defense isn't good at the end and the special teams don't even get me
00:06Started and the lack of discipline and also why doesn't it look like but well if you've got 27 issues
00:12I'm sorry, you kind of got to go to the top. It doesn't mean this is all Kyle's fault
00:19But that's where I think the conversation should start
00:22like can't I say
00:25Kyle's a great coach
00:27Nobody should be talking job status. He's not doing a good job this year. You can say that
00:33That's what I would say and you're probably right and I would look at the defensive coordinator and guru has been really hot on this
00:39Like where's that same energy that we all had for Steve Wilkes when people wanted him out?
00:45Nick Sorensen is not having a good year coordinating a defense in my opinion. It's the same thing
00:51Rinse and repeat you rush for you play six yards off receivers and these quarterbacks are able to play
00:57Pitch and catch and I'm just gonna add this before we go to the phone
01:00Yeah, you know if you want to throw something at me you can but that was probably the best special teams game of the year
01:10Yeah, I'll say it again
01:13That was I think how that really hurt. I think that was the best special teams game of the year
01:19Annoy me yesterday, which other than the the straight-up you
01:23the muffin swipe on the kickoff return by
01:26Jordan Mason muffs the kickoff and actually it kind of worked out because he just shoveled it
01:31forwards
01:3327-yard line. Yeah, but then the punt by Pat O'Donnell the Seahawks at the very end
01:37This boy didn't send anyone back to return to catch the punch. Oh, you got a loop
01:45That was a 22 yard net
01:49Probably the best special team
01:52I mean different different different mistakes mean different things. Yeah, if a human being just drops a football
01:58I'm not gonna be like carching like Jordan Mason
02:03Dropped a football. Don't drop the football. That's not on the coaches. Do you know what I mean?
02:08It's on the coaches the fact that he's actually out there doing that. That's a fair point
02:12He actually didn't drop it
02:14He never actually never caught in the ball hit him between the two and the four it hit him so hard
02:19That that thing Kareem 15 yards forward as Grandy's saying
02:29Maybe it was coaching. Yeah, all right. Here's what we're gonna do from now on
02:32I want you to just have the thing bounce off your chest like you're a soccer player and then just kick it forward and then
02:38We'll take it up there. So maybe I don't know man. I don't know. Let's let's hear from everybody. Okay, I
02:45Let's start with Jeff in in Rhode Island. Hey Jeff. Thanks for calling
02:52Hey guys, how's it going?
02:54Yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna vent because I've been venting all day here. So I might as well been on the West Coast, too
02:59Let's do it. Um
03:02Kyle I mean, I think you're right I go. It was a great analogy
03:05I heard when I was listening it is like golf
03:09It's something different all the time with this team and we can't and like where do we start?
03:15I mean we have to start with Shanahan and
03:18You guys are right. This is off and
03:21It's so stale. There's no space like you eventually they've been figured out. So you have to now
03:30counter that with something and
03:33It looks so slow
03:34Like you guys said he goes Christian doesn't look right Debo doesn't besides Jennings
03:39he's the only guy that shows you some light in that offense and I'm like
03:45It's not gonna get any better. I mean Green Bay Buffalo
03:49I mean now we're probably gonna get exposed even more on a national audience and I
03:56Mean, it's it almost I don't hate to say it, but is it a lost season?
04:00It could be you know, yeah, we're not there yet Jeff Jeff and the spread is stinky that's a smelly spread
04:08Yeah, is it still at one and a half one and a half Packers by one and a half like like, okay
04:14See if we can grab our emotion throw it out
04:17In the other room for a second. Okay, okay
04:20Make a case for me
04:22Why the 49ers should only be one and a half point underdogs this weekend at Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers
04:29Yeah, I guess the case would be that, you know, CMC's getting healthier and getting better every week
04:36Okay, and we'll put aside the Nick Bosa question, but thank you. No, but but let's not like again
04:42Yeah scenario is what it is fair. Why on earth and what's the George Kittle status going into no?
04:48No, okay
04:48I would imagine like he you know
04:50He was limited practice guy like I was a little bit of a mild surprise
04:54Late Saturday night or Sunday morning whenever you got the news that George was not gonna play
04:59So I would imagine he plays but I don't I don't know
05:02I would expect the spread to eventually rest above a field goal three and a half or four
05:07Oh, I'll bet you there's no way he's gonna move that much
05:09I wouldn't think they would like that'd be a lot of movement because it's settled like it opened and then it's settled
05:16Yeah, it's it let that would be crazy movement for it to go all the way up another two points
05:21Depending on well, especially if he goes past three, which is the magic number if Bosa is announced as out
05:26I do think that that you know from just a neutral observation standpoint. That's a huge deal
05:32I agree, but don't you think most people are probably assuming that right now?
05:36I'm assuming Nick Bosa's not playing this weekend. I am too. I wonder if the odds makers are making that same
05:42Assumption like they're usually ahead of us looking at it now on ESPN and they have it at two
05:47Okay, so it might be nudging its way on up maybe but yeah, maybe it doesn't even get beyond three
05:53But that that to me is a weird one. I think it's the Niner tax. Yeah, we're a stubborn group
05:59I sent this out this morning. Are you ready for this? Yeah, this is guy. I think this is wild
06:05Vegas States
06:07Okay, Vegas still States. Let me make sure I get all the teams. I want to remember all of them now
06:13Vegas States that
06:15The Packers
06:17The Steelers the Texans the Vikings the Chargers and the commanders
06:24all as
06:25We sit here right now still have longer odds to win the Super Bowl than the 49ers all those teams
06:32Longer odds. Yeah, the Steelers who are eight and two and just beat the Ravens to sort of like really grab
06:39They're grabbing the bull by the horns as far as the AFC North is concerned at eight and two longer odds
06:45And they're in the AFC which is tougher
06:48But all of those teams the Packers the Packers have longer odds than the 49ers to win the Super Bowl
06:53It's bananas and I'm looking at fan duel right now, which is the book that we use here on the show
06:59Lions Chiefs Bills
07:01Ravens and Eagles are both eight to one and there's a giant jump to the Niners
07:0617 to 1 Packers 19 to 1 Texans 20 to 1 Steelers 21 to 1
07:11I mean, I think the point that I take from that which I am guilty of this throughout this year. Most of us are
07:19Boy, we are stubborn with regard to our assessment of the 49ers and and come hell or high water
07:26No matter what the record says no matter what the division record is all of these things
07:31We refuse to believe that the 49ers aren't gonna just wake up one of these days and be different, right?
07:38I don't know man. We're now we're in the second half of the season and
07:42I have not seen one week where they've looked fully awake
07:46I thought week one was it
07:48But I look differently on week one now looking back on it
07:51Of course the Jets are awful. The Jets are terrible and my fantasy team is suffering because of that
07:56Thank you, Garrett Wilson who cannot get targeted at all. I mean the poor guy is just out there
08:03Rogers does not complete it passes in the first half. I don't know if you noticed that. Oh, yeah
08:08Yes, and then he just looked for his buddy Devante here and there. Yeah a little bit of Brees Hall. No Garrett
08:14Yeah, I think it must have been Robert saw his fault
08:16You know looking back that guy somewhere is just grinning ear-to-ear with a pocketful of Jets money
08:23Just waiting for his next actual
08:26Opportunity, but I do think that some of the Super Bowl odds reflect two things one the memory of Kyle Shanahan
08:33And what usually happens in November in December?
08:36They usually go on a run and the other piece is the NFC West is still fairly wide open
08:42Pending Arizona continuing to play well, but the Niners at five and five. It's not like there's three games out
08:48Well, here's the other thing that I think is actually difficult with regard to the NFC West. We've spent all year going
08:53Well, the NFC West is terrible now all this that once you use a different sentence
08:58The NFC West has no teams with a losing record. Yeah now that says something different
09:04There's no freebies in there and the Niners have already
09:07Checked box lost to all of them. Yeah, all three the Niners are not in good shape with regard to this whole
09:14I'll get it together and win the division
09:17It is not it is not
09:20Setting up in their favor at all. No, they've played four of the six divisional games and they're one and three
09:26So even if we want to pretend that
09:29Ten and seven gets it done to win the NFC West if we if we play that game in our minds
09:35Well, it has to be the right ten and seven which means you have to beat Arizona
09:39You have to beat the Rams for sure and you know, whatever else happens need some help elsewhere, too
09:44You do but if you're gonna win five of your last seven
09:48Those have to be two of the five without question and there has to be something that we've not seen yet
09:53Which is an impressive win you I'm telling you right now below Green Bay or Detroit
09:58Yeah, you don't win one of those your seasons. It's over. It is over for sure. That's eight losses. You're out
10:05You're out
10:07so
10:09They're gonna have to do something they haven't been able to do yet, how about
10:12Robin Philly
10:14Niners are so bad right now, though. The East Coast is pissed. I think I know this Robin Philly
10:19I'm hoping this is the Robin Philly. I know Rob. What are you doing? Are you the Rob that dibs nose?
10:23I
10:26Hope not
10:31Super Bowl odds are so weird considering that we're plus 200 to go to the playoffs right now. I don't understand that at all
10:40Everything feels like such a struggle because it's predictable like you guys are saying I should as well as we might know our teams
10:47I should not know what's coming from my couch
10:49Not that I sit on the couch just saying the whole game
10:51But I shouldn't know what's coming and I feel like I know what's coming every play
10:55We can all see McCaffrey isn't healthy
10:57Like you guys said he's still getting it like every play and Jordan Mason comes in
11:00He looks like he shot out of the cannon
11:02What is going on and every time Brock Purdy scrambles and makes a crazy first down or that crazy touchdown?
11:08I can count on one night on one hand. They share how many times they show the replay, you know
11:13And you can say maybe that guy was open. Nobody's open. This kid is making out of his mind
11:18Back up a couple first downs and Grady found the pylon yesterday. He deserves to get one in there running Rob
11:24I think that's it. That's a great point. I don't necessarily share your thought that Christian McCaffrey looks unhealthy
11:30I don't see that. Maybe he's working his way back
11:32Getting some of the cobwebs out Rob. Thanks very much. I
11:36Would like to point this out with Brock Purdy
11:39He didn't play great yesterday, and I've felt that way after most of the games this year
11:44I also don't think there have been too many
11:46That were just total stink bombs. I don't think there have been too many of those either
11:51Maybe one maybe none, but the Purdy conversation like yes the pass to Debo Samuel
11:59That was way over his head to me was one of the more disappointing throws
12:03I've ever seen him make that said though to me that the the absolute theme of the day is space
12:10But
12:13They don't have any space an
12:15Offensive line is not playing well, and that is gonna constantly make a quarterback
12:20At minimum have his numbers go down and Brock is still not turning the ball over a ton too much
12:27But not a ton
12:29But what are we watching Brock do?
12:30We're watching him force balls into small windows, and we're watching him run a lot a lot
12:35And he does that very well
12:37So he deserves some credit for that for kind of keeping the the offense moving a little bit
12:45But he's you're all right if your thought is for this particular offense
12:51The way it's structured right now these plays and this separation in this space
12:58For that team to put up 30 points Brock Purdy will need to be otherworldly and he's not
13:05He's not one of the top three quarterbacks in the NFL. He's not Lamar Jackson
13:10He would need to be for this offense to work because there's no time and there's no space, right?
13:16You need those things as a quarterback
13:18And this is where I'm thinking about Jerry Rice this morning on with the morning row
13:23Spadoni in for butcher and he's talking about you
13:25He's got to throw it deep two or three times just to to plant the seed that you can throw it deep and sometimes you got
13:31to just stretch the field and I watch all these plays and I watch the game two and three times and I don't see him
13:36having the time to go back seven step drop and for them to send somebody all the way down the field and even take a
13:42Shot right now because the offensive line is not giving him enough time
13:47The pocket is crumbling and collapsing and you know, there's times Brock Purdy can stay in there and climb the pocket and make a play
13:53There's other times when Brock Purdy can check it down
13:56He's I think he's seeing his checkdowns and he he doesn't want to check it down
14:01He wants to hold on for a bigger play and then he ends up running and scrambling when you know
14:06There are checkdowns that are available that he's just not taking
14:10There isn't enough time to throw the ball deep downfield, right exactly there isn't enough time
14:16Let's go to let's go to Robin San Jose. Nice to have a Bay Area call for the first time all day today
14:21Hi Rob, what are you doing?
14:24I'm just driving around about to go to play nice
14:31Yeah, I think this comes down to as a replication sensation
14:36Meaning that you go down that roster
14:38I don't think you're gonna find a player who is going to replicate the numbers and best years that they've had on that
14:45Team again, George Kittle's having a good year
14:48But he's had better years than what he's had the last couple
14:51McCaffrey his best year by far is going to be last year with the Nyrush will never replicate that
14:56Debo will never have have a better year than he's already on. I think on the defensive side to you looked at
15:03Different players over there
15:04Both may not have a better year than one that he's already had on that team and he's one of the guys that's supposed
15:10To be the anchor on that team. I think you look around they had a five-year window
15:14They swung and missed in that five-year window and now you are starting to see the league catch up and just an overall kind of
15:22Decline of these players where they are not in their prime and probably going to have the best seasons that they've had in this system
15:28So, I don't know how you feel about that dibs Rob. Thank you. It's an interesting call
15:33But here would be my response to that. I was gonna look around the league and look at teams who are playing well
15:40Okay, or you can even do it historically go back to last year 49ers are playing well, yeah, what do you notice?
15:46I would argue you almost never go
15:49Well, they're having a great year because that one individual right there is losing his mind and playing great. You're so right
15:55that's not football what happens is a team is playing well, and
16:02Then everybody individually has their numbers go through the roof
16:06What happened last year with the Niners Christian offensive player of the year Brock you're in the MVP conversation all of these things happen
16:13It's like the Lions right now. I'm looking at their stats, and I'm so glad you said that you've got Jameer Gibbs
16:18He's got 800 yards. He's gonna go over a thousand easy David Montgomery's got almost 600
16:24He's gonna go over a thousand two hours. They have 18 touchdowns between the two of them. I'm headed monster
16:29I think they've had that team is that a rushing touchdown like
16:33Every hour no no no like an absurd number of games in a row
16:37Like all the way through last year the Lions have had at least one rushing touchdown in every game, but sorry
16:42No, I'm on raw is having a great year, and he's a number one
16:45But Jameson Williams and Sam Laporta, and you know Khalif Raymond and Tim Patrick. They're all chipping in
16:52They're all contributing and you mentioned last year
16:55And we went through the target share from I you can kiddle and Christian and Debo
17:00And it was almost an even split a four-way split. They shared the ball
17:04They all played well the offense had a multitude of weapons this year. They don't have that due to injury
17:10Ineffectiveness and something that you were saying earlier about teams making that adjustment and Kyle Shanahan's offense
17:16And we've heard people talk about it being stale
17:19And I said bland and Lucas and our thread said boring there hasn't been that
17:24Next innovation because I do think that the league has seen all the things that he's done
17:28So well the pre snap motion the eye candy the personnel switching all the things that have made this offense go and be unique
17:36Teams are on to it. Yep, so now what's the next adjustment Kyle?
17:39And it's surprising that there hasn't been more that we've been able to see I don't think Kyle is just sitting there
17:46Drinking my ties all week like no. We're good. No. I'm sure they're sure they're trying, but what possibly yeah
17:52Whatever the adjustments are they they have not worked yet, but to me
17:56That's through my eyes football doesn't work that way
17:58It's kind of the other way around and that's why to me injuries are not an excuse the Lions lost their best defensive player
18:05What are they doing still playing great defense?
18:07They gave up six points this way yeah, because well yes, and Jags only sort of in the NFL
18:11But you get what I'm saying like yes
18:14There's still a cohesive unit the 49ers last year would have been able to withstand an injury or two or three
18:22I know there have been more this year, and maybe they've had more than their fair share
18:25But if the team were
18:27Reeling if they were if they were wheeling man if they were doing their thing in the play call and was all of those things
18:32They'd be fine
18:34They'd be fine that game against the Rams at halftime nobody was like oh my god
18:38What do we do without all of our people there were no people in there?
18:42No problem up and down the field scoring no problem, so I just
18:48Football is not about one or two people going off
18:52It's about a system working great, and then everybody's numbers go through the roof because of it
18:57You know who's going off this year Joe Burrow and and Jamar chase
19:02Super good numbers four and seven yeah four and seven so it's I just wouldn't go well
19:08Bosa isn't doing it and Brock isn't doing it, but well I
19:13Don't it's not on them to go out there and carry
19:1722 people
19:19That just I don't I don't think that ever works
19:21No
19:22And it has to be complimentary football and last year was a great example of that and this year is a perfect
19:27Example of when it doesn't work and yesterday is a case study where the defense does its job
19:33They get Seattle off the field and then now it's the offense's turn to
19:38Snuff out this game move the chains
19:40And I'm just looking at the replay of the pass that you are
19:43Fixated on the second 11 play action to Debo and there's no pass rusher within five yards abroad
19:49I was wide open and he just kind of not only did he sail it
19:52But he just threw it way way too hot I was impressed the Debo even got a finger on it
19:57Which he probably shouldn't I should know yeah, no joke
