00:00The University of Rome Tor Vergata celebrates the beginning of the new academic year with a solemn ceremony at the Auditorium Ennio Morricone.
00:11The crucial theme of this year is interconnections and global challenges, the strategic role of the University.
00:17The University, as a place of excellence in the formation of knowledge, is today facing global challenges.
00:23In a world defined by economic, environmental and technological interconnections, such as the rise of artificial intelligence and the management of migratory phenomena,
00:31its strategic role is to form a new global citizenship, women and men able to understand the complexity of the present and to positively influence the dynamics of the future.
00:42The role of the University is to be always able to build bridges, bridges between cultures, bridges between people belonging to different states,
00:49bridges between competences that together must compete for the solution of complex problems.
00:54The biggest challenges, in my opinion, are related to the fact that they must be understood precisely that the really useful tools for problem solving
01:03are no longer within the individual disciplines, but are increasingly branched and dispersed and are located at the borders.
01:09Therefore, the contamination between different cognitive maps can allow to obtain the tools really necessary for problem solving.
01:16The event was enriched by the presence of illustrious guests, including Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati, Minister for Institutional Reforms and Normative Simplification.
01:24The role of the University today is a fundamental role because the University constitutes the lever of our future,
01:34forms our leadership classes and lays the foundations for a social economic development.
01:42It is also said that the University must produce social value and this means that it must not only produce good graduates, but also good citizens.
01:57To outline the contribution of the University in the development of a more conscious and interconnected society,
02:02it was also the Delegated Administrator and Director-General of Deposits and Lenders, Dario Scannapieco,
02:08to whom the certificate of benevolence and the medal of Athenaeum were conferred,
02:12recognitions for his contribution to the dialogue between University, institutions and the economic world.
02:18Faced with the challenges we have of a world that is fragmented more and more,
02:22the University, in my opinion, is a world exposed to a very rapid technological innovation,
02:27but the University does not play a double role.
02:29First of all, it is a meeting point between cultures and between people with different backgrounds.
02:35The second important element is that in a world that has so many innovations,
02:39the University must increasingly become the subject that promotes technological innovation.
02:45So the University as an incubator of new products, new ideas, new projects that can then have a market development.
02:52The ceremony was an opportunity to reflect on the crucial role of the University as a bridge between academia and society
02:58and education in a world in continuous evolution,
03:01but also to reaffirm the commitment of Tor Vergata in forming a new generation of global citizens
03:06ready to face the increasingly difficult challenges of our time.
