00:00At the Via Roma, the first edition of the Social Sustainability Week.
00:08At the center of the debate, social sustainability,
00:11a topic often put in the background by environmental sustainability,
00:15but central for young people.
00:17Young people are the weak link up to this point of the whole process that leads to sustainability.
00:22This process has been reduced to environmental sustainability,
00:25which is actually a small segment,
00:27but social sustainability, which is more difficult, controversial
00:31and naturally involves more complicated actors and subjects,
00:36has been relegated to the background.
00:38And young people are exhausted by this.
00:41To explain why it is complex to talk about social sustainability,
00:45anthropologist Cenci.
00:46In our imagination, the two words, sustainability and social, do not match.
00:51And why don't they match?
00:53Because while environmental sustainability can be measured, standardized,
00:58can add fears and universal hopes,
01:01social and subjective sustainability should add, but often disaggregates,
01:07easily becomes the opposite of what it should be.
01:10At the opening day, the results of the survey
01:14of young people and social sustainability, promoted by EICON, were presented.
01:1785% of young people consider the work-life balance fundamental
01:21and almost 70% of young people strongly ask companies
01:25to focus on the physical well-being of people.
01:28They are not willing to compromise in terms of contractual aspects
01:32and 67% of young people consider the use of internships and term contracts inappropriate.
01:38From the research, the great interest of young people
01:41for the topics of social and environmental sustainability is won.
01:44In particular, topics such as energy, climate, evolution in the digital field,
01:51but also the quality of work, health and inclusion.
01:57Young people were also concerned about access to public health.
02:01When you worry about health as a young person,
02:04it means that the level of insecurity has really entered the depths of our society.
02:10It seems quite clear to me that, even compared to what is happening around them,
02:17we have clear and precise ideas.
02:21Despite being driven by attention to these issues,
02:24young people often have to deal with their own economic availability, as evidenced by the survey.
02:29A series of choices, even daily, are closely linked to the availability of funds.
02:36They would like to be much more sustainable,
02:39but they cannot, for example, on urban mobility,
02:43because they do not have the possibility of using sustainable mobility.
