00:00Listen to this and I haven't heard it the guys the guys said hey, you're gonna want to hear this
00:06Frickin Nick Sorensen listen to this. Okay
00:11The other team known as the Packers and the Bills the last couple of weeks when they go into the red zone
00:18Then they go into the end zone. Hmm. In fact, they're pretty much the same frickin thing
00:23Nine for nine is the opponent the last two weeks on red zone trips
00:30So they said hey Nick
00:32What's up with that? And then here's the answer
00:36We're looking at everything. I mean, there's you know, whatever it needs to be done. We're trying we're
00:42We got a same thing same as the run
00:44We got it the same is not taking the ball away same as third down
00:48These like situational parts of our defense have to get better. It doesn't matter who's in there. We got a coach a better
00:54We got to execute better. So look at every aspect of it
00:58Evaluate everything looking at how looking at ourselves even more throughout what we've done. These are things we need to change
01:04Do we just need to tighten up what we're doing? So we're just about and then it's also your opponent
01:09You know, does that apply to what who you're playing? So
01:12It's not good. It's not good enough. We have to get it better. Oh, I
01:16Yeah, I don't like this answer at all. No, I don't this is a very this is a turnoff of an answer
01:23How come because he's asking
01:26I'm doing great
01:31I'm not laughing at you. I'm laughing at Nick Sorensen. Oh my god. Yeah. No, I'm laughing. It's so funny. I'm laughing
01:37Laughing at Nick Sorensen and Dan Dibley. Is that okay? It's fine
01:42Come on a word count. Can we hear it again? Let's hear it one more time
01:45Yeah, let's hear it Nick again. And here's what I want to do. You want to know what I want to do
01:49Let's have some fun with Nick count the questions
01:53Nick when you get it, here's how it works all those people sitting in the auditorium
01:58They ask questions
02:00You're standing in front of a podium you get to answer the question
02:05When you answer a question with a question people stop trusting you
02:11It's kind of like when you come home late on a Friday night and your wife looks at you and goes
02:17Where were you and then you go?
02:20Where was I now people don't trust you stop asking questions in your answer
02:24Let's count the questions that Nick gives in his answer. We're looking at everything
02:29I mean, there's you know, whatever it needs to be done. We're trying we're
02:34We got a same thing same as the run
02:36We got it the same is not taking the ball away
02:38Same as third down these like situational parts of our defense have to get better. It doesn't matter who's in there
02:46We got to execute better so
02:48Look at every aspect of it
02:50Evaluate everything looking at how looking at ourselves even more throughout what we've done. These are things we need to change
02:56You just need to tighten up what we're doing. So we're just about and then it's also your opponent
03:00You know, does that apply to what who you're playing right? So
03:04It's not good. It's not good enough. We have to get it better. Okay, it's only three
03:08I had the I had the over-under set at four and a half
03:10But there were three questions asked in his answer and then the other thing that by the way
03:15He this was not a question. This was a statement. You're not allowed to say this as a coach
03:20We're trying. Yeah, holy crap
03:24We're trying a lot of cliches in there. I
03:28Yeah, and look I know it's just a press conference and maybe we don't even really know Nick that well yet
03:33Maybe Nick's just not really good in front of the microphone
03:37Because that is that is sort of a gift even if you're quote like not great at it
03:43Is there sort of a way that we can sink our teeth into what you do?
03:47I'd argue that's what Kyle Shanahan is he hates talking to the media, but he makes fun of that and and and then there's sort of
03:54A snarky back-and-forth kind of a tone to it, but you get something out of it
03:59What I've noticed when I listen to Nick Sorenson talk, I don't get anything out of it
04:05I don't walk away with okay
04:09This is what he said that this is 36 seconds of we're looking at everything
04:14Yeah, we're trying and we're asking questions like who's the opponent and and where are they on the field?
04:21And is it a personnel thing or is it an execution thing? All right. Good night. Thanks for coming. I got nothing
04:29I've got nothing Nick you got a point your finger in a certain direction
04:34When you're when you're answering a question like that or else it just ends up feeling very unsatisfying
04:40Yeah, it's cliches and it's coach speak. There wasn't really anything there. Yeah, they're right when you get to the ninth world
04:47It really right. I was gonna say I'll pull the plug on it, but your your car is in front of mine
04:53Anyway, oh, it's good point. He can't go anywhere. He can't get out
04:56You go you don't was drugstore on the way you go get yourself a big box of lozenges
05:02Yes, and just it's a beautiful day night in the city. You just go for a walk. Look at Christmas lights
05:08That's fun. No, it is go over to California it the lights on the trees the beautiful. Yeah, gorgeous
05:16I'm trying here. Do my best. Yeah, gorgeous
05:21Look, I'll give you this you're more entertaining than Nick Sorenson. Thanks even like this
05:26Thanks. I mean he started the answer by just listing out everything
05:30They're bad at which checks notes was like every aspect of defense. So let's know one more time. Listen to this
05:37We're looking at everything. I mean there's you know, whatever it needs to be done. We're trying we're
05:42We got a same thing same as the run
05:44We got it the same is not taking the ball away same as third down
05:48These like situational parts of our defense have to get better. It doesn't matter who's in there. We got a coach a better
05:54We got to execute better so look at every aspect of it
05:58Evaluate everything looking at how looking at ourselves even more throughout what we've done
06:03What do you think we need to change you to tighten up what we're doing?
06:07So we're just about and then it's also your opponent, you know, does that apply to what who you're playing? So
06:12It's not good. It's not good enough. No, I forget it better. It's not I mean, what does that mean?
06:17We're looking at ourselves even more. Are you getting closer to the mirror? What does that mean?
06:22We're looking at ourselves even more 31st in red zone defense. We got a coach it better
06:28We got a this bet. It's like look I understand again
06:3270.7% I under I understand that he's just talking to the media, but
06:38unfortunately for Nick
06:40he saw it sounds like someone who has no answers and
06:44When you've got this amount of expectation and you're the new guy and your group is underperforming
06:51Like I don't I don't think you you can I don't think you cannot have answers
06:56You you you have to have answers in this particular situation. Well, the answers are all excuses
07:03Really? We've had a lot of guys hurt. Okay. Yeah, but then he's like it doesn't matter who's in there
07:09They've got to be better. I've got to be better. You know what Nick would be really really good at I did figure it out
07:14I know what Nick could be hired to do
07:16Nick should be the guy that does the sideline interview on the way to the locker room just before halftime
07:23He sounds like he's doing that for this entire 36 seconds. Hey Nick
07:29The other team has got got three touchdowns in three red zone trips here in this first half
07:35What what's your reaction to that? Well
07:39Stop the run better stop the pass better. I've got to be better and they've got to be better
07:43We've got to come out with our butts on fire and be better
07:46Alright, thanks coach
07:48You said nothing. Yeah, you said nothing. Let's go to Gene in Oakland. Hi Gene
07:54Say hi to Dan
07:56Hey Gene, what's that? Yes
08:00Hey
08:01Actually, you sound you sound like Nick from the Bronx the other night and you know what?
08:06I kind of like it being from Boston myself
08:09So I'm hoping you hang around for another hour so I can listen to more. Yeah. Thanks, Gene
08:12All
08:15Right, so here this might make you feel a little bit better for us here
08:20It convinced me to change my pick tonight to the Packers. Okay
08:24I'm gonna make a pledge on the on the air here
08:27Oh crap that if I win my poll this week by one point because of that switch
08:33You and your wife are invited to come out to dinner with me and my wife at the restaurant of your choice
08:40There you go dibs awesome, so wait if the Packers cover three and a half you're going on a double date with Dan Debly
08:51Yeah
08:54That's it now I'm into this it's a win-win now, I'm really yeah, I've never been to do and do
09:02Go pack. No, I am in tonight
09:06So
09:08If I can say something quickly about the Niners here, so you can actually actually
09:14You can talk for as long as you want
09:16You want to do the rest of the show?
09:19Yeah, sure. Why not? All right. I gotta get a welcome to the classic
09:23I gotta go get a glass of tequila first. But anyways, I know what I
09:29Know I know I have a perfect
09:32career
09:34For Nick Sorensen once he leaves of the Niners, okay
09:38National politics. All right, the guy said that
09:42In so many words said absolutely nothing. So I I think he'd be very very successful. But anyways that aside
09:50Hey, you know the Niners I'm totally with you what you said the other day Mac. I'm you Mark
09:57Mac or Mark, whatever. I think I'm catching
10:09Anyways
10:11You know, this was a washout. I mean by my count. I think they've been they
10:15You know, they had something between seven and nine, you know
10:20Critically important players either out or at least compromised to where they can't play, you know anywhere near their best this year
10:28I I've been racking my brain trying to think of a year when a team of mine has been this compromised because of
10:36Injuries, I can't come up with one. So
10:40Always criticism of Shan Shanahan and the players and you know, I just as far as I'm concerned you just put it aside
10:48Anything they do in terms of wins from here on is a bonus and you know
10:53And as far as I'm concerned, I packed it in and I'm gonna wait for next year when hopefully they're ready to go
11:01You know and start again and then one last thing. I like I like what Matt Barrow said about
11:08The new coaches that he's that you know, he's proposing. I think he said over it for offense and
11:14And I love Salah, I don't know I think I think Salah was probably the best defensive coordinator
11:21Shanahan has had under his tenure. So I think that'd be that's that's a really cost-effective way to improve the team
11:28significantly and
11:30Last thing if they're somewhere between 10 and 12 as far as you know draft picks
11:38By all means get a get whatever you can get for the line, I think that's their first priority. All right, Gene
11:44Thank you very much. I think Gene said last thing like three times
11:49But but I know that's all fair and you know going back to the defensive coordinator comment
11:54Matt Barrow's did bring up a bunch of extra names
11:57However, he started the answer with I think Nick Sorensen is going to be back, right?
12:02It's going to be very very interesting. I to me that one is a dot dot dot
12:07I don't think and why wouldn't it be it's only the first week of December like no decision needs to be made yet, but
12:14Certainly, he gave Nick Sorensen the vote of confidence earlier this week at the same time
12:20I think that is still very TBD with regard to who's going to be the defensive coordinator based on who's available
12:27Remember it comes out this week Nick Sorensen was not the first choice
12:32He was choice number four he is not the first choice
12:34And so when you're not the first choice, and then you don't crush it
12:39I mean you can look at like Bruce Bochy was not the first choice, but then Bruce Bochy crushed it pretty quick
12:45Yeah, now you're like, okay
12:46But if you're not the first choice and then you come out here and have a year like this
12:50What's the last time the Niner defense was this bad? I mean it was like
12:54what I
12:56Would almost Kelly or maybe year one. Yeah for Shanahan, maybe
13:02That's the last time the defense performed like this
13:04They've never performed like this before and they're not terrible, but we're used to them being elite
13:10They're mediocre. Yeah, and what hurts is that they're 31st in red zone defense. Yeah, see I think they are terrible
13:18Situationally, yeah
13:19Situationally, well, they're not
13:2271% of red zone trips result in touchdown right and for me Dallas is worse red zone bad third down bad
13:29discipline bad
13:31Between the 20s in the first quarter sure possible. You know what I mean?
13:35Yeah, and running defense and depth is horrible. If there's no Nick Bosa there did like you're not stopping anybody
