00:00Hi, I'm digital reporter Amy Seddon, and in this video I'm going to reveal who the five
00:06most famous people in Lancashire are. These rankings are based on metrics that take into
00:11account a celebrity's Google Trend ranking and the number of followers they have on Twitter
00:16and Instagram, if they have them. First up is the heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury. Although
00:22he was born in Manchester, Tyson and his wife Paris moved to Morecambe in 2008, where it
00:28has been home ever since. That year was also the year that Tyson, now 36, had his first
00:35professional fight, and for the next 15 years he was undefeated. That was until May 2024,
00:41when the father of seven was defeated by the Ukrainian Alexander Yusyk, which also stripped
00:47him of his world champion status. At the time of recording this video, Tyson has not yet
00:53fought Yusyk again, but here's hoping he regains the title for Lancashire.
00:59In silver position is another Lancashire sporting star, Freddie Flintoff, 47. Born and raised
01:06in Preston, Freddie attended Greenlands Community Primary School and Ribbleton Hall High School.
01:12He first came to the public's attention as a cricketer, widely being regarded as one
01:16of the top all-rounders in the world during his career. After retiring from cricket in
01:222014, father of four Freddie then became somewhat of a household name on TV, most notably
01:28for being a team captain on League of Their Own and as a presenter on Top Gear. Following
01:34a crash on the motoring show in 2022, Freddie took some time away from the spotlight, but
01:40he has since returned both to the cricketing world and the TV world with a second series
01:45of Field of Dreams and the Bullseye Christmas Special this year.
01:51In third place is the esteemed actor Ian McKellen, who was born in Burnley. The 85-year-old's
01:57career is far too immense for me to boil down into a 30-second segment, but I can try. Ian
02:03has starred in around 80 stage plays, 29 TV shows and 64 films, which include the iconic
02:10film series The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, in which he played Gandalf, and X-Men,
02:15in which he played Magneto. Over the course of his six-decade-long career, Ian has also
02:21been the recipient of six Laurence Olivier Awards, a Tony Award, a Golden Globe Award,
02:27two Oscar nominations, four BAFTA nominations and five Emmy Award nominations. Outside of
02:33acting, Ian is also well known for the work he does in championing LGBT rights. He was
02:38a founding member of the LGBT lobby group Stonewall in 1989 and is a patron of LGBT
02:45History Month. The fourth most famous person from Lancashire,
02:49according to our metrics, is the footballer Scott McTominay. The 28-year-old was born
02:55in Lancaster and attended St Wilfrid's Primary School in Holton and Our Lady's Catholic College
03:00in Lancaster. After attending a Manchester United development centre in Preston, Scott
03:06started playing at Man Utd's academy from the age of nine, and he played for their senior
03:11team between 2017 and 2024. He currently plays for the Italian side Napoli and has also made
03:1958 appearances for the Scottish national team. Finishing off our top five is the rage-representer
03:26Zoe Ball. You may not have realised that Zoe is from Lancashire, but she was actually born
03:31in Cleverley's in 1970, where her dad, the TV personality Johnny Ball, had lived the
03:36previous nine years. Zoe and her dad then lived on the Fylde Coast until she was aged
03:42eight when they moved to Slough. The now 54-year-old started off her media career in
03:471994 when she co-presented the CBBC art show Smart, and in 1997 she became the first female
03:55host of the Radio 1 breakfast show. Zoe went on to present many more TV shows from Top
04:01of the Pops to Strictly Come Dancing, It Takes Two, and most recently Mamma Mia! Here We
04:06Go Again. The mum of two, who was previously married to Fatboy Slim, also stayed on the
04:11Radio 1 airwaves until 2007 when she switched over to Radio 2. Zoe said farewell to her
04:18Radio 2 breakfast show on December 20th, after six years.
04:24So that's the end of our five most famous people in Lancashire video. Do you agree with
04:28our rankings? Let us know in the comments.
