01:01Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Derecho Studios in Caracas,
01:05Venezuela.
01:06We begin with the news.
01:21In Venezuela, a recent poll conducted by Hinterlaces, an agency specialized in public opinion studies,
01:27markets and consulting, shows that the majority of Venezuelans reject illegal sanctions imposed
01:33on the nation.
01:34The survey asks, do you agree or disagree that the United States imposes economic and
01:38financial sanctions against the people with the aim of ousting President Nicolás Maduro?
01:4487% of those polled rejected the use of sanctions against the Venezuelan people, with only 9%
01:50saying they agreed with the coercive measures and 4% chose not to respond.
01:55The poll's results show the will of the Venezuelan people to create their own future free of
02:00sanctions and foreign interference.
02:11The United Socialist Party of Venezuela called for a mobilization this March 5th to commemorate
02:16the 12th anniversary of the passing of Rafael Chávez Fría, commander of the Bolivarian
02:21Revolution.
02:22The mobilization is set to begin at different points of the city, including the historically
02:27combative 23rd of January Parish and end at the 4F Mountain Barracks, where lay the
02:34remains of Commander Chávez.
02:36Among the activities, there will be an ecumenical frayer at the Military Hospital, a commemorative
02:41cantata and the projection of eight short films on the life and work of the revolutionary
02:47leader.
02:48The purpose of the mobilization is to exalt the memory of the commander of the Bolivarian
02:51Revolution, as well as the political ideology and the historical legacy that continues to
02:58be present.
03:10From his childhood in Sabaneta to his accession as President of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez was
03:15a man guided by the social struggle and the dream of a united and sovereign Latin America.
03:21Twelve years after his passing, let's know some details of his life and work.
03:27Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías was born in Sabaneta Varinas State in Venezuela on July 28, 1954.
03:34He was a revolutionary military and political leader, who grew up in a humble family, living
03:40the difficulties faced by the popular sectors of the Venezuelan society.
03:44His training at the Venezuelan Military Academy prepared him as a soldier and brought him
03:48closer to Bolivarian ideas.
03:50This became the foundation of his political thinking centered on Latin American unity.
03:56In the 1980s, Chávez founded the Revolutionary Bolivarian Movement 200, an organization that
04:02sought to transform the Venezuelan political system.
04:07The critical point came in 1989 with the Caracazo, a people's rebellion violently repressed
04:12by the government of Carlos Andrés Pérez.
04:16On February 4, 1992, Chávez led the military uprising against the government.
04:21Although the action did not achieve its objectives, it laid the foundations for insurrection among
04:26the Venezuelan people.
04:28Later, Chávez founded the Fifth Republic Movement and entered electoral politics.
04:35In 1998, he won the presidential elections with broad support from the population.
04:46Under his leadership, sectors such as oil were nationalized and social missions were
04:51implemented to guarantee health and education, achieving a Venezuela free of illiteracy by
04:56dropping the rate from 9.1% in 2003 to 4.9% in 2011.
05:04In addition, in regards to food, malnutrition was practically eradicated by decreasing the
05:09percentage of Venezuelans without a minimum daily food intake from 16% in 2000 to 5% in
05:152011.
05:16Poverty in the country was also reduced by half, from 62.1% in 2003 to 31.9% in 2011,
05:25according to data from the World Bank.
05:27Chávez was a critic of U.S. imperialism and an advocate for multipolarity.
05:32He promoted the creation of international associations such as ALBA, Petrocaribe, and
05:36the Union of South American Nations, which sought to strengthen sovereignty and cooperation
05:41in the region.
05:43Hugo Chávez passed away on March 5, 2013, leaving an indelible legacy.
05:48His revolution transformed Venezuela into a world reference in the struggle against
05:53neoliberalism and imperialism.
05:55His work lives on in the millions of Venezuelans who today have access to education, health
06:01and housing thanks to his humanist policies.

06:40Welcome back.
06:52The government of Palestine denounces the Israeli regime for imposing apartheid in the
06:55occupied West Bank.
06:57The Ministry of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs of Palestine stated in a statement that the
07:02Zionist incursions affect the daily life of residents by controlling their movements inside
07:07cities, villages, and camps.
07:09The text emphasized that Tel Aviv's actions represent an atrocious punishment against
07:13the Palestinian people and resemble apartheid regimes.
07:17The entity condemned the silence of the international community in defense of the situation in the
07:22West Bank, especially those nations that claim to defend human rights.
07:34The Palestinian Authority's Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission accused Wednesday
07:39Israeli prison service of committing torture and humiliation against Palestinian detainees
07:43in their prisons.
07:45The Commission criticized their precarious conditions in Ofer Prison in the occupied
07:48West Bank.
07:49Moreover, the entity condemned an Israeli raid on cells, which came along with truncheons
07:54and gas spraying, grounded in detainees who were demanding medical treatment to one of
07:59the inmates.
08:00Likewise, released Palestinian journalists recounted the torture they had gone through.
08:05Meanwhile, the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates urged the United Nations
08:09Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory to mull
08:14over the high death toll in Israeli prisons.
08:26Meanwhile, in Egypt, an emergency Arab summit consolidates Gaza's reconstruction plan.
08:31The plan pursues the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip and aims to maintain that territory
08:35and the West Bank under a single authority.
08:38Furthermore, it rejects the attempt by the United States and its allies to displace Palestinians
08:42from their territory.
08:44The text of the agreement requests the United Nations Security Council to provide international
08:48peacekeeping forces.
08:51Regarding the ceasefire, there must be a second phase for implementing the ceasefire plan.
09:00This plan has been agreed upon, and each party, especially the Israeli side, must fully implement
09:10its commitments.
09:14Under no circumstances can the use of starvation as a tool for collective punishment be allowed
09:20especially during this holy month.
09:23There are naturally challenges, including the intransigent and extremist Israeli stance
09:29and its attempts to evade the commitments outlined in the ceasefire agreement that Israel
09:33itself signed.
09:34Therefore, any talk of rejecting UNRWA or the Palestinian Authority is mere rhetoric
09:41and cannot be accepted as they represent international legitimacy.
09:46We are presenting an alternative, and all we want to say is that there will be no security
09:50or stability for Israel or the region except through a political horizon and the fulfillment
09:55of the aspirations of the Palestinian people.
10:01Yemen's armed forces have shot down a U.S. MQ-9 drone that was violated in Hodeidah's
10:06airspace.
10:07The spokesman of the Yemeni Armed Forces, Brigadier General Yahya Sari, confirmed that
10:12this was the 15th drone intercepted.
10:14Sari emphasized that the Yemeni forces will continue their defensive missions to reaffirm
10:19their commitment to confront any aggression against Yemen and to support Gaza and Lebanon
10:23in their fight against external aggressions.
10:26He also stressed the importance of monitoring and tracking hostile movements in the Red
10:30and Arabian Seas to protect national sovereignty.
10:37Moving on to Pakistan, a group affiliated with the Taliban breached a wall by means
10:46of two suicide bombings at a military base in addition to a concurrent raid that claimed
10:51over 10 lives in northern province.
10:54Authorities informed that strikers stormed the compound killing about 12 civilians and
10:59injuring 32 others.
11:01Pakistani police sources unfolded that the assault initiated after insurgents blew up
11:05two vehicles equipped with explosives with the aim of tearing down the outer wall of
11:09the base, sparking a clash between terrorists and security forces.
11:13Likewise, the Pakistani Interior Ministry expressed on X their condolences to the victims'
11:17families and confirmed that at least six terrorists had been hit to death.
11:28This is a military zone and the wall has collapsed.
11:32There is a mosque where many people break their fast.
11:36Many Muslims come here for iftar and prayer.
11:40There has been a lot of damage.
11:45We have recovered 12 bodies, including those of women and children, from three houses that
11:50were badly damaged.
11:54And 31 to 32 injured have been taken out and rushed to the hospital.
12:02On Wednesday, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko offered to host Russian-Ukrainian
12:12peace talks in Minsk, also inviting U.S. officials to participate.
12:20Everyone should negotiate.
12:22If you want, come to Minsk.
12:25It's close to Ukraine, just 200 kilometers from the Belarusian border to Kiev, so 500
12:32kilometers in total from Kiev to Minsk.
12:36Half an hour by plane.
12:39Do come.
12:41We'll sit here calmly, without hue and cry and reach an agreement.
12:46So pass on to Trump that I'm waiting for him here, along with Putin and Zelensky.

13:40The forest firing of Funato, northeastern Japan, has consumed 2,900 hectares and forced
13:45the evacuation of 4,600 people.
13:47More than 2,000 firefighters from all over the country are taking part in the firefighting
13:51efforts to prevent the flames from spreading to residential areas.
13:54Snow began to fall in the early hours of Wednesday morning, preventing helicopters from continuing
13:59their work due to lack of visibility.
14:01According to the Meteorological Observatory, it is suspected that the next precipitation
14:05will help to extinguish the flames.
14:07For the moment, the initial toll of one dead and 84 houses damaged remains unchanged.
14:12Meanwhile, in Mexico, more than 170 forest fires have been recorded in the north of the
14:25country.
14:26Local authorities report that at least 10 people have been arrested for causing some
14:30of the fires that broke out in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
14:33The Fire Brigade and Civil Protection are working to extinguish the active fires, which
14:37are mainly caused by high temperatures and strong winds.
14:41Authorities report at least six people suffering from smoke, poisoning, material damage, power
14:45cuts and interruptions to the drinking water supply.
14:57And more than 76,000 people in Ecuador are affected by heavy rains and 21 rivers overflowing.
15:03The National Secretariat for Risk Management is maintaining a red alert in six of Ecuador's
15:0724 provinces following the death of at least 14 people.
15:10They also report that more than 20,000 homes have been affected and around 1,000 hectares
15:15of crops have been lost due to the devastating rains.
15:18According to the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology, the rains will continue over
15:23the next few days until March 7 along the coast and in the highlands.
15:38With the purpose of raising awareness from an early age, Cuba starts a new campaign against
15:42gender violence called AIS, in which teenagers from the Caribbean island are protagonists.
15:47Let's see more with our correspondent Fabiola Lopez.
16:07AIS is a campaign that focuses on Cuban teenagers and aims to contribute to the change of social
16:12imaginaries that legitimize gender-based violence.
16:16The initiative, which is coordinated by national and international organizations, includes debates
16:21on different expressions of gender violence and its effects, as well as the patriarchal
16:27roles and stereotypes at its core, offering tools to counter gender violence in everyday life.
16:35What distinguishes AIS is that precisely the collective construction of all the messages
16:41have been led by Cuban adolescents, groups of young boys and girls who have gathered
16:46to think about the violence they experience nowadays and what positive messages they want
16:50to give against it, in favor of popular feminisms and counter hegemonic masculinities.
16:57The campaign's messages motivate people to reflect on self-care, respect for diverse bodies,
17:09the construction of new masculinities, equitable interpersonal relationships, mutual help,
17:15support networks and sisterhood.
17:17The project aims at the prevention, awareness and understanding of these issues.
17:23It is meant to raise awareness, to look for tools and ways for our young people and adolescents
17:30to be able to solve all those contradictions, which are even described in the medical literature
17:36and that occur at this age.
17:40It is also aimed at giving tools to the family on how to approach issues with adolescents.
17:46The renowned comic book character Lola Vendetta, which captures the social criticism
17:53for the invisibilization of women, came from Spain to take part in the AIS campaign.
17:58Its creator, artist and illustrator Raquel Riva created a mural together with teenagers from the island.
18:04AIS will be present in social networks but also in public spaces, communities and mass media.
18:10It has been wonderful working with them, very gratifying for me.
18:17And also very nice to see how they are leading the campaign from the inside themselves.
18:22I think that's the main difference.
18:25It has not been a project of adults explaining the world to teenagers,
18:29but a project of teenagers talking to the world.
18:33It is a way to open the mind to go beyond the social networks.
18:39We were doing workshops with Raquel, the creator of Lola Vendetta,
18:44we were doing the murals, we painted, but this is just the beginning.
18:49The learning experience has been super intense and super cool.
18:55The campaign will be implemented until 2026 in the provinces of Havana, Granma, Las Dunas and Guantanamo.
19:02The adolescents who take part in the initiative say that their dream is simply to live in an inclusive world without gender violence,
19:11where the rights of all people are respected regardless of skin color, sexual orientation,
19:17gender identity, disabilities, place of residence, purchasing power or access to technology.
19:24And to do so, they warn, they will try to tell their own stories in a different way and from their own perspectives.
