00:39Suk-kyo to demand his detention after investigators called it off.
00:48Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:53We begin with the news.
01:10Overnight, Israeli swarming drones have invaded the Gaza Strip on Friday morning, so they
01:15killed around 30 Gazans, including children.
01:18At the Al-Aqsa Matiz Hospital, the staff referred that tens of women and children were hit to
01:24death in the middle of the Gaza Strip, including Nusayrat, Sawaida, Magasi and Deir al-Bala
01:29areas.
01:30Meanwhile, Israeli forces issued an order to evacuate immediately the Indonesian hospital,
01:36which is full of women and children, some injured who cannot even move in northern Gaza,
01:41whereas the regime keeps on firing nearby that care centre.
01:45Currently, the Israeli army aims at broadening its operations in that zone.
01:51Nonetheless, both Israeli and Palestinian sides are negotiating a ceasefire, among other
01:56issues, with mediating nations as Qatar and Egypt.
02:05We were sleeping in God's safety.
02:06We had nothing to do with anything.
02:08The people were all civilians.
02:10We woke up to the missile strike.
02:11We found the whole house disintegrated, the martyrs dismembered, the women and children
02:15dismembered, all civilians.
02:17The Israelis target only civilians.
02:23Drinking water contamination rates in the Gaza Strip have become a cause of concern
02:27in the midst of the genocidal siege launched by Israel.
02:31Authorities denounced that the Israeli army destroyed more than 80% of the sewage infrastructure,
02:37which caused leaks and contamination.
02:39It also warned about the lack of this vital resource in the enclave, which aggravates
02:43even more the humanitarian crisis, since more than 75% of the wells in the city were totally
02:49or partially damaged.
02:51The cuts to external supply, the systematic destruction of facilities and the deliberate
02:56obstruction of aid have reduced the amount of water in Gaza by 94%.
03:07The Palestinian Defense Ministry reports a worsening of the humanitarian crisis in
03:11the Gaza Strip following heavy rains and flooding that have severely damaged tent camps and
03:16temporary shelters.
03:18In this regard, emergency services informed that areas in southern, northern and central
03:22Gaza have been rendered uninhabitable due to flooding that has left dozens of makeshift
03:29shelter tents with more than 30 centimetres of water inside.
03:33Furthermore, the situation is aggravated as thousands of Palestinians also face adverse
03:38weather conditions due to the severe cold temperatures.
03:47More than two million Yemenis marched in several cities in solidarity with the Palestinian
03:51people and against the genocide that Israel commits in the region aided by the United
03:56States.
03:57The crowds gathered at the main squares of cities nationwide to reaffirm the victory
04:02of Israel's resilience and loyalty to the peoples of Palestine and Lebanon.
04:07The participants carried out carried the flags of the three countries as well as those of
04:13resistance movement and pictures of the Ansar al-Assad leader.
04:17During the mobilizations, the Yemenis demanded a stop to the ongoing genocide and to the
04:21expunctionist plans of the Israeli regime's occupying forces.
04:30Now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok at

04:53Welcome back to From the South.
04:55In the United States, two people were killed and 18 injured when a small plane crashed
05:00into the roof of a commercial building in Southern California on Thursday.
05:03The crash occurred at 2.15 p.m. local time in Fullerton, California.
05:09Firefighters and police arrived on the scene for a fire that broke out and evacuated surrounding
05:14businesses.
05:15The fire damaged the warehouse, which appeared to contain sewing machines and fabrics.
05:20The building was occupied by Michael Nicholas Designs, a manufacturer of furniture upholstery.
05:27The Fullerton Police Department said the pilot died in the crash.
05:31Ten people were taken to the hospital and eight were treated and released at the scene.
05:36Two deaths have been confirmed.
05:43In New Orleans, the police completed their on-site investigation following the lately
05:47incident in which the U.S. Army veteran Shamsuddin Jabbar intentionally crashed his pickup truck
05:53into a crowd of travelers on Bourbon Street, taking at least 14 lives and injuring 30 others.
06:00Locals have paid tribute to the fatal victims by creating a makeshift memorial nearby, in
06:06which they have laid 14 yellow roses along a wall, erected crosses and even an indie
06:13jazz band performed traditional music in homage to them.
06:16In addition, workers around the place said to be sad, uptight for the rapid reopening
06:22of the site, as well as they are frightened into their future safety as violent incidents
06:27are on an upward trend lately in the neighborhood.
06:38In this regard, during her morning press conference, the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum,
06:42condemned the violent incident and expressed her solidarity to families of the victims.
06:50First, we condemn these acts, and as always, our solidarity goes to the families of the
06:55victims.
06:56There are two Mexicans in New Orleans who were there visiting.
07:00The consulate is already attending them, approaching them for anything they may need.
07:08In Mexico, the first migrant caravan of 2025 heading to the U.S. started on Thursday with
07:13at least 1,500 people who began their pilgrimage from different countries in South America,
07:19Central America and the Caribbean.
07:21According to reports, this new migratory wave began in the town of Tapachula in the state
07:26of Chiapas in southeastern Mexico.
07:28The migrants began their journey along the coastal highway and have already reached their
07:33first destination, the municipality of Huehuetán, to continue their procession towards Huxtla.
07:40The migrants seek to reach the U.S. before the inauguration of President-elect Donald
07:45Trump.
07:53Walking is not a crime.
07:55The comrades are going to do it.
07:58We ask Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo to help migrant women and children and not let them
08:03walk.
08:06Provide them with buses to get to Mexico City.
08:22In Peru, authorities reported on Thursday that the presence of abnormal swells in the
08:26north and center of the country will remain until Tuesday, January 7.
08:31According to reports, the northwest swells will mainly affect areas with open or semi-open
08:37beaches oriented to the northwest and west.
08:40Since last Friday, especially in northern Peru, large waves have damaged dozens of boats
08:46and caused flooding in coastal towns where water has reached businesses and homes and
08:51the closure of 101 ports.
08:55Authorities recommended that the coastal population and people involved in fishing, sports and
08:59recreational activities take safety measures to avoid accidents and follow the provisions
09:04of the corresponding port authorities.
09:11The National Meteorology Service of Bolivia maintains the orange alert in seven departments
09:16due to rains.
09:17The agency forecasts cloudiness, rainfall and thunderstorms for the next few days.
09:23The alert is especially directed at areas where rainfall is constant, which increases
09:28the risk of river overflow.
09:30In this sense, the authorities called on the population to take the necessary precautions
09:35during the holiday season.
09:41Japan's meteorological agency has urged people to prepare for heavy snow in several areas.
09:47A cold air mass caused snowfall that could intensify and reach up to 50 cm in the Tohoku
09:54region.
09:55At the same time, a snowfall of 412 cm was recorded in the Hakoda Mountains.
10:01In this regard, the meteorological agency advised citizens to be alert of the possibility
10:06of lightning, hail, tornadoes and gusts of wind, as well as possible traffic disruptions
10:12or accidents caused by the accumulation of power lines and trees.

10:54Welcome back to From the South.
10:59South Korean protesters gathered near the residence of impeached President Joe Suk-yool
11:05to demand his attention after investigators called off an attempt arrest operation.
11:09Precisely, the failed imprisonment occurred when law officials were outnumbered by protesters
11:15and the president's security staff.
11:17The Constitutional Court then announced that the first oral arguments for the impeachment
11:21trial against the head of state will be held on January 14th upon completion of its preparatory
11:27procedures.
11:28Demonstrators against Yoon are being led by the South Korea Confederation of Trade Unions,
11:34which declared on Friday afternoon that they are organizing a mobilization that will last
11:38through the night.
11:42I came rushing out to this place filled with anger over the fact that Jun Suk-yool has
11:50not been swiftly arrested and that they are resisting and not promptly complying with
11:56the arrest.
11:59Ever since the warrant was issued, I have been anxiously waiting for it to be executed.
12:03This morning, when I heard that the corruption investigation office had set out, I fervently
12:07hoped that he would finally be arrested, however, on my way here, I heard that the office had
12:11withdrawn, and I felt utterly disheartened and furious, with no way to express my frustration.
12:15That is why today, I am determined to see Yoon Suk-yool arrested and brought to justice.
12:20After which I plan to return to Daegu.
12:23In South Korea, on Friday, authorities began lifting the wreckage of the Jeju Airplane
12:28that crashed on December 29th at Muan Airport.
12:32By using large cranes, sections of the aircraft's scorched fuselage started being lifted, including
12:38parts of the engine and the tail.
12:41According to on-site investigators, this phase of the recovery operation is expected to uncover
12:46more human remains from the 179 fatal victims of the Flight 2216 crash.
12:53In this context, examinations are being conducted to identify the sole unknown cause of the
12:58incident, with police vowing to determine the responsibility swiftly, while the nation's
13:04transport ministry stated the procedure could take six months to three years.
13:12In Lithuania, heavy rains led to overflowing rivers in the western region, prompting the
13:18government to declare a state of emergency.
13:21Rainfall caused the water level in the Minijia River to exceed the national level, while
13:25the Akmian River also approached its limit height.
13:30Similar concerns over the rising waters triggered an official state of emergency in Kratinga
13:35and in several villages of the region.
13:38In the past 24 hours, the water level of the rivers has risen by an average of 192 centimetres,
13:44while rescue services remain on high alert.
13:52In Serbia, as part of a set of new social policies, the major of the capital, Sili Belgrade,
13:58has declared free access to public transport as of 1 January.
14:03The measure, according to Major Aleksandar Zapik, will prevent monthly annual or discount
14:08tickets, making the city the first in Europe with more than half a million inhabitants
14:13to have transport free of charges.
14:16In this context, it is expected for citizens to use public transport more in order to reduce
14:21traffic and avoid environmental pollution.
14:24Zapik also indicated that the vehicle fleet of both the private and public sectors will
14:28be more than in sight.
14:31Belgrade, home to almost 2 million people, suffers from usual traffic jams as the number
14:36of cars increased by 200,000 in the last decade.
14:44In Montenegro, thousands of residents gathered in Cetinje to honour the 12 victims killed
14:50after a shooting in the small town.
14:52Government authorities declared three days of national mourning and cancelled all planned
14:56New Year celebrations throughout the country.
15:00The statements from the town's residents point to the government's inaction in the
15:04events that have been taking place for the past several years.
15:08With a population of around 620,000, the small Adriatic nation is known for its gun culture,
15:15with many of its citizens traditionally owning weapons.
15:22Armed forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo reported clashes with rebel groups of
15:27the March 23 movement and insurgents from Rwanda in the province of North Kivu.
15:32The clashes took place in two axes of the territory of Masisi, where civilians affirmed
15:37that the offensive produced the advance towards Katale, a few kilometres from the capital.
15:42During the attack, at least two civilians, among them a child, were wounded.
15:47These actions violate the ceasefire agreement with Rwanda, causing Kinshasa to accuse Kigali
15:53of supporting the armed groups.
15:57The Prime Minister of Barbados, Mea Mowgli, announced the celebration of the Karifesta
16:14festival in her country as an opportunity to consolidate resilience in the region.
16:19In her message, as newly inaugurated President Pro Tempore of the Caribbean community, Karikom,
16:24the head of government announced that between August 22 and 31 Barbados will host the 15th
16:31edition of Karifesta.
16:33Mowgli invited representatives from all over the Caribbean to participate in the Caribbean
16:37Festival of the Arts, commonly known as Karifesta, an international multicultural event organized
16:43periodically by Caribbean countries.
16:50On January 3, we remember the anniversary number 192 of the illegitimate occupation
16:56of the Argentine Islas Malvinas by British forces.
17:00On that date, in 1833, the territory of Islas Malvinas was illegally occupied by British
17:06forces evicting the Argentine authorities legitimately established there.
17:11The almost bicentennial British occupation and the Argentine permissiveness consolidate
17:17day by day before the world the British illegal possession of this territory.
17:21According to the last Argentine constitutional reform of 1994, the recovery of these territories
17:27and the full exercise of sovereignty in agreement with the principles of international law constitute
17:33a permanent and unresonable objective of the Argentine people.
