00:15at least 11 civilians.

00:25birthright citizenship as of January 20th.
00:32And in Cuba, authorities registered a 6.1 magnitude earthquake in eastern provinces.
00:44Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:49We begin with the news, stay with us.
01:07In Palestine, at least 11 people were killed in a wave of attacks by the Israeli occupation
01:13forces in the al-Mawassi area, south of the Gaza Strip.
01:18The Zionist armed forces said that the attack allegedly targeted Hamas members located in
01:24the designated humanitarian zone near the town of Kanjonis.
01:27During the aggression, an Israeli drone strike set fire to refugee tents in addition to attacking
01:33a civilian car and a vehicle carrying security personnel.
01:37In the aftermath, the Gaza Strip's civil defense services indicated they were able to recover
01:43a number of bodies and wounded from the site of the bombing.
01:52We were sleeping in the tent, none of us is wanted nor is anyone around us.
01:57So why are they bombing us while we're sitting in our tents?
02:00They are the ones who told us to head to the tents in the Mawassi area of Kanjonis.
02:05So how can they bombard us with their missiles on our tents?
02:13In Palestine on Monday, Israeli genocidal troops shelled the Nusayrat refugee camp in
02:18the Gaza Strip, leaving many dead and wounded.
02:21According to medical sources, at least five people were killed and over 20 were injured.
02:26The northwest of the Palestinian enclave, where this refugee camp is located, has been
02:31under attack since early morning Monday.
02:34In this context, Zionist troops hit a school that housed refugees, killing one.
02:39So far, Israel's genocidal onslaught has killed 45,259 people in Gaza, more than 70% of whom
02:47are women and children, a figure that is not conclusive as there are thousands of bodies
02:52still under the rubble.
03:00Israeli occupation forces made 10 illegal arrests against Palestinian citizens in the
03:09West Bank on Monday.
03:11According to social organizations of former Palestinian prisoners, the detentions by Zionist
03:16forces took place in the governorates of Hebron, Nablus, Ramallah and Bethlehem, among others.
03:22Likewise, they denounced that since the onset of the Israeli offensive in October 2023,
03:27the Tel Aviv regime increased its investigation and arrest operations in civilian populated
03:32areas in the Gaza Strip.
03:34The recent wave of Israeli repression coincides with the constant bombings on Palestinian
03:39families that have claimed over 45,000 lives, mostly those of women and children.
03:51The Iranian government reaffirmed its support for the sovereignty of Syria and stressed
03:56that this country should not become a safe haven for terrorism.
03:59Regarding the latest development in Syria, Iran emphasized that its main stance is to
04:04preserve the sovereignty and integrity of this country and that Syrians should decide
04:09on their future without foreign interference.
04:12Government authorities further warned that all countries should be careful not to normalize
04:16Israel's psychological warfare and its plan to create insecurity in the region.
04:26In the future, based on the approach of the ruling authorities, we will decide on our
04:32relations.
04:37The current situation in Syria is unclear.
04:44It is important that Syria does not become a safe haven and a place for the rise of terrorism.
04:54And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok
04:57at TELUS in English, where you'll find news in different formats, news updates and more.
05:02We'll be right back, stay with us.
05:20Welcome back to From the South.
05:22In the United States, President-elect Donald Trump will ask the State Department not to
05:27grant birthright citizenship as of January 20.
05:30According to the President-elect's team, among the eventual measures from Trump's
05:35second administration will be not issuing passports to children with undocumented parents
05:41and tightening requirements for tourist visas.
05:44In this sense, Trump is a candidate developed his 2024 election campaign with an anti-immigrant
05:50rhetoric and promised the largest deportations in U.S. history.
05:55Sources familiar with the issue assured that the plans of not granting birthright citizenship
06:01would end in a legal battle that would go all the way to the Supreme Court.
06:11U.S. President-elect Donald Trump reiterated his threat to Panamanian officials, assuring
06:16that if they do not follow the relevant instructions, they will have to hand over the Panama Canal
06:22to Washington promptly and without question.
06:25In a statement, Trump stressed that if the Panamanian government fails to comply with
06:29orders, he will demand that the inter-oceanic waterway be returned to Washington in its
06:35entirety.
06:36Likewise, the U.S. President-elect emphasized that if Panama cannot respect the historic
06:41agreement of warranty, a safe, efficient and reliable operation of the canal, then it should
06:47be taken away from them.
06:49Furthermore, Donald Trump assured that the United States will not tolerate that Panama
06:53wants to ignore its instructions.
07:11If the principles, both moral and legal, of this magnanimous gesture of giving are
07:18not followed, then we will demand that the Panama Canal be returned to the United States
07:24of America in full, quickly and without question.
07:29I'm not going to stand for it.
07:32So to the officials of Panama, please be guided accordingly.
07:39In this context, China reaffirmed its support to Panama in the face of the U.S. threats
07:44regarding the sovereignty of the canal.
07:49The Panama Canal is a great creation of the Panamanian people and a golden waterway that
07:53promotes global connectivity.
07:55China has always supported the Panamanian people in their just struggle to preserve
07:58the sovereignty of the canal.
08:04South Korean police found evidence of provocative plans against North Korea as part of the investigation
08:11launched into the executive over martial law degree.
08:15The material was among the possessions seized from the residence of former military intelligence
08:20commander Noh Sang-won, who is currently detained.
08:23The police report accounted for a memorandum of some 70 pages detailing an attack on the

08:38Council has disregarded several times.

09:02Storosheve village in Donetsk.
09:05The military briefing ensured that liberating such village, located about 5 km southwest

09:15It is worth remarking that Storosheve is close to Saporozhye, where the Russian army has
09:20been deployed.
09:21Meanwhile, the Ukrainian troops have suffered casualties in the 46th and 79th brigades,
09:27according to Russian war correspondents.
09:29Moreover, they claim to be trapped in what they described as the Kurakovo Sack, in all.
09:35The heaviest clashes are being staged between Selenovka and Ulalki areas, where the key
09:41interception for the transit of troops and vehicles to Saporozhye is located.
09:52Switzerland announced that it will not hold a second conference on Ukraine, stressing
09:58that it is preparing to hold ceasefire talks.
10:00The Swiss diplomatic department has specified that the main issue now is the preservations
10:05for the ceasefire talks.
10:07For this part, the Russian embassy in Bern declared its readiness for a constructive
10:12dialogue on the situation in Ukraine, with the Swiss representatives recalling that the
10:17attempts of the Western countries to impose the Cairo-style peace formula on Russia will
10:22not change the situation.
10:30The Russian government reported at least two dead and several injured after the unexplosion
10:36in an industrial building in Abkhazia city in southern Siberia.
10:40The governor said that the incident occurred due to a safety regulation breach in a routine

10:46In this regard, the deputy governor of the province explained that the accident was due
10:51to the explosion of a vessel during some hydraulic test and detailed that the investigations
10:57have begun to find its owner.

11:20alert following the actions of the economic community of West African states.
11:25ECOWAS extended the suspension of the three countries for another six months.
11:29Its leaders claim that this is a unilateral decision that prevents successful cooperation
11:35between the two alliances.
11:36They describe the decision as an attempt at destabilization by a few heads of state of
11:42the alliance and warn that they are serving imperialist and neo-colonialist ambitions.
11:47The alliance of Sahel states accuses foreign powers of carrying out a false withdrawal
11:53from the region.
