00:00How about stepping out of the boring way to display and instead slip into something a little more stylish?
00:06Here's a look at some more custom VHS slipcovers for Blu-rays and 4Ks, courtesy of VHS slipcovers.
00:17My order has finally arrived, and I figured I'd also do an unboxing video of this.
00:21Although, truth be told, I've already taken the liberty of opening up and cutting and letting these things breathe.
00:25If you'd like to follow along what VHS slipcovers are doing over on Instagram, they do some pretty cool work.
00:32What they're essentially doing over there is that they're selling VHS retro-themed slipcovers for your Blu-rays, for your 4Ks, in different sizes as well.
00:41Now, what they are also doing, too, is that every month they send out their orders.
00:45So if you guys would like to get in on their pre-orders before the end of this month, you can, again, reach out to them over on Instagram and contact them that way.
00:52But you can also see, as well, if you're following them already, see the different VHS slipcovers that they're doing currently.
00:58Now, I have picked up four titles.
01:00I just happen to have my four movies off to the side here.
01:02Let's just go ahead and grab these and get these all on the ready.
01:04But my order has arrived.
01:06Let's go ahead and open up the box, even though, again, like, I know, I know.
01:08I mean, to be redundant, I've already taken the liberty of, yeah, opening up the box.
01:11But let's open, though, up the bag.
01:13And I got myself four VHS-inspired slipcovers.
01:17So let's go ahead and pull these all out.
01:20I guess maybe what we'll do is we'll keep it as a surprise.
01:22Should we keep it as a surprise?
01:22We'll keep it as a surprise.
01:24So the first one I did get, and this was probably one of the ones that kind of got the snowball rolling for me wanting to get, then, the other three.
01:30I got John Carpenter's Christine.
01:33Now, I hope only that videos like this can really show you guys the quality of work those guys are doing over there.
01:38I mean, these VHS slipcovers, I have bought slipcovers in the past from other sellers.
01:43And they generally are a little thinner, like kind of photo paper.
01:46These are actually printed by Factory.
01:48And one of the reasons why they send out the orders once a month.
01:52So, again, if you guys would be interested.
01:54This is Christine.
01:55And I just happen to have, where's my Christine over here?
01:57Christine happens, oh, of course, it just happens to be the one that's on the bottom here.
02:01So this is the original one.
02:02Or I should say this is the 4K Ultra Blu-ray 35th Anniversary Christine that I ordered over on Amazon.
02:08It's a nice-looking cover.
02:09The thing, unfortunately, it's missing, for me at least, is it doesn't have a slipcover.
02:13So I ordered, actually, this one.
02:14You can see it has completely different artwork.
02:16This is actually based more on, I'm guessing, the VHS design.
02:19These guys, by the way, though, aren't simply just taking the transfer image of the VHS video art and then putting it over here.
02:25A lot of times, they actually go through.
02:26And they really, like, super sensitively readjust, kind of move things around.
02:31They get the font just right.
02:32They're not just producing A to A.
02:35They're actually going in there meticulously making sure that the artwork is unique.
02:39And in a lot of cases, too, like, they're spending a lot of hours to actually produce the artwork that you're currently seeing.
02:43So we've got, of course, the cast and crew responsible for releasing this 1983 classic.
02:48What I do really like is that there's also this red border that also finds its way over to the spine as well.
02:54On the back, I'm not going to read, obviously, the read-up here.
02:57But you can see, as well, it advertised RCA Columbia Pictures down below.
03:00The runtime for this is 110 minutes.
03:02And again, 1983.
03:04Nice-looking slipcover, though.
03:06This is going to, of course, find its home, finally now, onto the movie.
03:09And now sliding it out of place.
03:11Boy, there's just something to be said.
03:13Now, I know there's collectors out there of physical media that don't really care at all about slipcovers.
03:18Personally, for me, I like the idea of actually looking at something on the shelf.
03:21And it looks and it has the feel more like a hardcover book.
03:24I mean, there's nothing at all wrong just by having this really on your VHS or on your library shelf the way it is right now.
03:31But for me, I prefer to have slipcovers.
03:33Do you like slipcovers or do you just prefer to have the movies the way that they originally are or the way that you originally buy them?
03:38You can let me know down below.
03:39But there's basically Christine.
03:41Nice-looking addition.
03:42Obviously, an upgrade to what I already had in my collection.
03:46Another movie, and I should really pull this out because I wanted to talk this one about...
03:49Ah, okay.
03:49It's right on the top.
03:50The next one I did also pull out, and these were originally the only two that I had planned to order from VHS slipcovers,
03:56was Christine, and was the Lost Boys.
03:59Just because, again, like, to go back, and this is also the one I ordered from Amazon.
04:03This is the 4K Ultra HD of the Lost Boys.
04:05I mean, it's new artwork, and it's fine.
04:08It's fine.
04:09But there's nothing really beating the original poster.
04:11I would love still to get the original poster of the Lost Boys.
04:14Down below, it says,
04:14Scary, Sleeky, Sexy, Hip.
04:17Warner Brothers Time Warner Company.
04:19On the side, you can see that's what basically the slipcover is going to look like.
04:22And on the back, a hip comic twist on a classic vampire story.
04:27Lost Boys was released, I'm trying to remember here, early, early 80s.
04:32Oh, 1987.
04:32I actually thought it was earlier than 1987.
04:34And the runtime for this is 98 minutes.
04:37So this is basically what I would have had to work with.
04:39I mean, we're not getting this from a company, obviously, a physical media company boutique that has the reverse cover art.
04:45So, you know, again, like, while it's nice to have myself, the Lost Boys, on Ultra HD and on Blu-ray,
04:51still to be said, there's, you know, obviously, it's lacking the fact, it's lacking the charm I felt that went along with the original movie.
04:58Obviously, having it now with the slipcover, boy, that, yeah, that does look so much better, though.
05:02On the side, there's the spine.
05:04Classic-looking poster.
05:06It's probably one of the most, it's one of the most 80s movie poster when it comes to certainly horror films.
05:12I mean, that, Christine, is a classic film as well.
05:15So I picked up these two.
05:17And then, obviously, when I was kind of looking at what they also were making over there as well,
05:21I, of course, got the itch and I had to pick up a couple more as well.
05:23So another one that I did pick up was American Werewolf in London,
05:28which, again, it was kind of one of those cases where when I ordered the original movie,
05:32it has new artwork, which is nice.
05:34It's fine.
05:35It's the restored edition as well.
05:37But it lacks some of the deluxe treatment.
05:40I think that needs to really fitfully go with the movie as, you know, iconic as the American Werewolf in London.
05:46Again, the spine looks fine.
05:48The back of the artwork or the back of the cover is, again, fine.
05:50There's nothing really wrong with that.
05:52But to not have the original VHS design of the slip, it just feels incomplete.
05:57Sort of, again, the same way that the Lost Boys and Christine felt incomplete.
06:01So, again, we're just going to slide this.
06:03Now, also, too, let's say you've got yourself, like, the deluxe thicker cases, too.
06:07Now, they make these slips not only for the thinner traditional Blu-ray cases,
06:11but also the Arrow video cases that are, you know, obviously going to be a little bit wider.
06:15They do also the deluxe sets for, like, the Nightmare on Elm Streets, for example.
06:18If there is a certain cover that you guys are interested in,
06:21you can reach out to them.
06:22You can also let them know what specific size you're looking for.
06:27And, again, like, that's, you know, again, that's as classic as it's going to get,
06:30just sort of going into a strip plaza video store.
06:33You know, again, and just seeing, like, all the old original VHS tapes sitting on racks.
06:37I miss those days.
06:38I miss the Friday nights of going to a video store.
06:40And just seeing the very limited amount of VHS horror movies where I could choose what I'm going to be watching for the Friday night.
06:48This, again, really does bring back, really, just between, like, all these three alone, just nostalgic overload.
06:54So, those are three titles that I did pick up.
06:57What happens to be the fourth?
06:59Well, okay.
07:00So, if you have already followed along, when I did order a bunch of these from before, from VHS slipcovers,
07:06you may have already remembered that I had picked up Poltergeist.
07:09This is kind of really recreating the original MGM Poltergeist slipcover.
07:14Now, that was good, because I also had picked up from Scream Factory the Poltergeist 2, the other side,
07:19which, again, has kind of a more classic poster art style to it.
07:23So, on the shelf, yeah, it looked good.
07:25But, you know, again, like, this is the release by Scream Factory.
07:27This was released by VHS slipcovers.
07:30Like, the quality, it'd be, like, to look at the two and feel the two,
07:34it'd be hard to kind of say that this one's a reproduction and this is a factory-produced one.
07:38Because, again, like, this is also made in a factory.
07:40This isn't somebody just printing this off on a photo, on a printer,
07:43or, like, on a photocopier.
07:45It's a good factory thickness on card.
07:48And, again, like, I love the fact that these look so close to one another.
07:51They look like the original VHS covers.
07:53The only problem I really had was,
07:55the only available option I have right now for what I have for Poltergeist 3
07:59happens, though, to be from the double feature Poltergeist 2 and 3.
08:03For one reason or another, I never just, I never,
08:06well, I know that Shout Factory had released deluxe versions of Poltergeist 2, Poltergeist 3.
08:11I never picked those up.
08:11I know they're kind of going for stupid money online.
08:14Well, you know, again, I don't really love the case the way it is designed right now.
08:17This is in, obviously, Poltergeist 2.
08:20You've got Poltergeist 3.
08:20Brand new art on the inside there.
08:22And that's what it looks like on the back.
08:24It's not the greatest.
08:25And, obviously, if you're going to have these displayed,
08:28Poltergeist 2, Poltergeist 1, I should say,
08:30Poltergeist 2 and Poltergeist 3.
08:32Poltergeist 3, for me, at least stands out like a sore thumb.
08:34So, what I did do was I also ordered,
08:38I'm just going to move the bag out of the way here.
08:40I also ordered Poltergeist 3.
08:43Now, again, it's got the MGM logo down below here, home video.
08:47Obviously, he's found her on the top.
08:49Poltergeist 3 on the side.
08:51And Poltergeist, the clarity of this is so good.
08:54I mean, like, again, like,
08:55if I was to hold this in front of the camera,
08:57you guys would be probably so easily able to read,
08:59the read-up on the back of this.
09:01It doesn't have special features.
09:02Obviously, it only just tells you that's the one hour and 39 minutes.
09:04It was released in 1987 as well.
09:07But let's go ahead.
09:08Try to fix, do our best to fix up the original case that I had before.
09:14This is also good, too.
09:14Like, if you want to reach out to them,
09:15like, if you have movies like I have right now with Poltergeist 3.
09:19Well, like, you still have the movie.
09:20You don't feel the need to upgrade.
09:21But you want to at least make it look nicer on the shelf.
09:24Now, look at this.
09:26I've got Poltergeist 2, or Poltergeist 1, Poltergeist 2,
09:28now Poltergeist 3.
09:30All three of them.
09:31Excuse me.
09:32All three of them.
09:33You would only, I mean, only by me telling you alone,
09:35would you know that Poltergeist 2 in the middle
09:37happens to be the factory official release.
09:40But to look at the other ones on either side,
09:42would you ever really know that this was not produced by,
09:44well, directly from MGM,
09:46nor would the original Poltergeist.
09:48So, like, I love the fact that now all three of them
09:50look like they're consistent.
09:52They feel good.
09:53I mean, obviously, they look fantastic on the shelf.
09:56Yeah, I'm finally happy to at least upgrade,
09:58even though I probably will.
09:59I don't know if there's ever going to be a Poltergeist 3 release.
10:01We've already got the Poltergeist 2 from Shout Factory.
10:03Will perhaps we also get ourselves Poltergeist 3?
10:05I don't know.
10:06But in the meantime, though,
10:07I have a much better looking case as a result.
10:10If you guys, though, are interested to obviously pick these ones up,
10:14you can reach out to VHS Slip Covers.
10:16Now, as far as I know,
10:17they only do the order one time per month
10:20because obviously there's usually a large order
10:21that they have to send off,
10:22and then they have to wait for the factory
10:23to produce them on their end.
10:25But if you guys are interested
10:27and would feel the need to kind of upgrade
10:28your existing movie library,
10:31say you have already, like, the original movies in 4K,
10:33in both the cases of Christine and Lost Boys,
10:36I have the upgrade on the picture,
10:37but I certainly didn't have an upgrade,
10:39what I felt when it came to the classic cover,
10:41and now I certainly do.
10:42Again, if you guys are interested,
10:43I'll put all the details down below to VHS Slip Covers
10:46if you would like to reach out to them directly.
10:48Yeah, you never know.

10:52of getting retro VHS-style slipcovers.
