00:00In Argentina, thousands bid farewell to Pope Francis and honor the legacy of the
00:18supreme pontiff in favor of noble causes.
00:28Russian armed forces fully liberate Kursk province given the advance of troops over
00:32the last few weeks.
00:39In Palestine, Israeli occupation forces killed at least 16 Palestinians in its latest attacks
00:44on Gaza.
00:54Hello, welcome to From the South.
00:55I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Adresu Studios in Caracas, Venezuela.
01:00We begin with the news.
01:05These are the thousands of Catholic pilgrims from all over the world gathered in St. Peter
01:19Square in the Vatican City to bid farewell to Pope Francis.
01:22The Romanic corps and delegations representing more than 165 nations were present at the
01:27ceremony, which was also attended by heads of states, governments, and kings.
01:32The coffin of Pope Francis has traveled the six kilometers from St. Peter's Square to the
01:36Basilica of Santa Maria La Maiore after a service presided over by Cardinal Giovanni Battista,
01:41Dean of the College of Cardinals, who recalled Francis' most committed moments for peace,
01:47the peace, and the peace.
01:57With his characteristic vocabulary and language, rich images and metaphors, he always sought to
02:05shed light on the problems of our times with the wisdom of the Gospel.
02:13He did so by offering a response, guided by the light of faith, and encouraging us to live as Christians amid the challenges and contradictions in recent years, which he loved to describe as an apocal change.
02:31Cardinal Giovanni Battista took the opportunity during the ceremony to recall the human qualities of Pope Francis and how he worked to create a more just and inclusive church.
02:39He had a great spontaneity and an informal way of addressing everyone, even those far from the church.
02:49Reaching human warmth and deeply sensitive to today's challenges, Pope Francis truly shared the anxieties, sufferings and hopes of this time of globalization.
03:09He gave of himself by comforting and encouraging us with a message, capable of reaching people's hearts in a direct and immediate way.
03:25And upon arrival at the Basilica of Santa Maria Mayor, the brutal rite of the coffin took place.
03:35The ceremony was presided over by Cardinal Camerlengo Kevin Joseph Farrell and was attended by the pontiff's relatives and close cardinals.
03:41The rite was carried out according to the Ordo Execuarium Romani Pontificis, the liturgical protocol for papal funeral rites.
03:49The tomb of Pope Francis is located between the Pauline Chapel and the Sforza Chapel, near the icon of the Virgin Salus Populi Romani, which can be visited starting this Sunday, April 27th.
03:59Meanwhile, in Argentina, a mass was held Saturday in honor of Pope Francis, who died last Monday at age 88.
04:12The Buenos Aires Archdiocesis held the mass at the Metropolitan Cathedral simultaneously to the rise of the inhumation of the Pontiff in the Vatican City.
04:22The tribute was meant as a symbolic tour through Francis' pastoral work, followed by a caravan which toured various places that had special significance in the life and mission of the Pontiff.
04:39And Buenos Aires Archbishop Jorge Garcia Cuerba moved those attending the mass when he acknowledged the shared pain for the departure of Pope Francis.
04:48We cannot fully comprehend nor realize the actual scope of his world leadership.
04:55We cry because we miss him very much already.
05:01And we do not want to experience what one of Carlos Gardel tangos says.
05:06The sly tears refuse to flow, and I do not have the consolation of being able to cry.
05:11Also members of the Homes of Christ arrived at Buenos Aires aboard buses from different points of the former Villa 31, now known as Barrio Padre Carlo Mujica.
05:26They came to Buenos Aires to stage a march to the Capitol's Cathedral.
05:29The Homes of Christ was one of the main projects of the Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio to help the most distinguished people in the country.
05:36In Bolivia, there's a sentence that general elections will be held in August, returned with the regulatory guarantee of the Supreme Electoral Court that the elections will be held,
05:52and the commitment of the Constitutional Court that it would not interfere in the process as it did in the past judicial elections.
05:58Our correspondent Freddy Morales tells us the details.
06:05A sort of rumor campaign by the political opposition about an alleged plan to postpone the August national elections led the Supreme Electoral Tribunal to repeat its commitment that the elections will be held on the scheduled date.
06:16The Supreme Electoral Court has a firm time, and again, that the general elections scheduled for this administration will be held on August 17 of this year.
06:35The rumor was based on what happened in last year's judicial elections when the elections were torpedoed by the Constitutional Court, which not only postponed them, but also, in the face of several lawsuits, authorized them to be held partially.
06:50We, the magistrates of the Constitutional Court, give our faith, we give our commitment, and we give certainty to the Bolivian people for the realization of this electoral process.
07:07For the fulfillment of this electoral process, and to process the appeals with celerity, and without the processing of these appeals meaning the postponement, or slowing down of the election of August 17 of this year.
07:22Analyst Susana Bejarano described as shameful that a state power such as the electoral tribunal asks the judiciary not to interfere, but the commitments of both give back certainty.
07:34There is already a common sense in society that the elections are going to be held, and if they were not held, it would be like lighting the fuse to a gunpowder that is already spread in the country.
07:48Because as you know, the fact that there's been a lack of fuel, the inflation we are experiencing after two decades and all these situations have generated, whether you like it or not, a tension in the population.
08:07It is the opposition sectors themselves, who spread rumors about an alleged attempt by the government to extend the deadline for the elections, who encourage uncertainty by filing lawsuits before the judiciary that could affect the date of the elections.
08:22If you make a review of who are the people in the framework of those five rulings that have put that question, you are going to see elections, they are going to be suspended because now there are some rulings.
08:33Four of them are people who belong to the opposition bloc, to the anti-movement for socialism bloc. Although they are dressed as indigenous people, they have been systematically against the movement for socialism.
08:42The national elections have been officially called for next August 17th. The electoral calendar is already smooth and determines that whoever wins these elections will take office at the beginning of November of this year. The registration of candidates will take place in mid-May.

10:21President Maduroz
10:26President Maduroz
10:30Knowing our experience and knowing your experience, we can integrate great ideas and great strengths. That is why I think it is very good that in this first international meeting, an international network of entrepreneurship is born at the level of all our countries, and all our economies.
10:50and these 57 countries that are participating here
10:54want this international network of entrepreneurs.
10:58I am in favor.
11:00I think it is very good that they have taken this decision
11:03and I applaud and support it.
11:06And I applaud you and I accompany you.
11:08In Russia, the Ministry of Defense announced the complete liberation of Fruks province

11:33Moreover, Russian forces have recaptured over 86% of the Tsutsa territory,
11:37which functioned as a strategic supply zone for Ukrainian battalions settled in the area.
11:42According to the Russian Defense Ministry,
11:44the liberation of Fruks represents a major defeat for the Kiev regime.

14:08Welcome back.
14:20Hundreds of people have been injured following a massive explosion
14:23and fire at the Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas,
14:26south of Kapil Tehran.
14:27Iran's Customs Authority said in a statement on Saturday
14:30the explosion occurred in the Sina container yard,
14:32which is affiliated with the country's ports and maritime organization.
14:35State media are reporting that the number of injuries has risen to 406,
14:39while Iranian state television said initial reports
14:41indicate negligence in the storage of flammable materials at the site.
14:45In this context,
14:46the National Iranian Petroleum Refining and Distribution Company
14:49issued a statement following the blast saying
14:52oil facilities in the area were not affected by the explosion.
14:54At least 16 people were killed in Palestine on the 4th, 40th day
15:19since Israel resumed its genocide against the Gaza Strip.
15:22Health authorities in Gaza reported that since October 7, 2023,
15:26the number of people killed has risen to 51,495
15:30and that 117,524 people have been wounded.
15:34Also, 10,000 people are missing or presumed dead under the rubble,
15:38whereas survivors still search for the remains of their loved ones.
15:41Meanwhile, several United Nations agencies have denounced
15:43the total blockade imposed by Israel to the entry of food
15:46and other essential supplies since March 2nd this year,
15:50which aggravates the humanitarian crisis in the region.
15:53This is my family's house,
16:06where my siblings, their children, and grandchildren used to live.
16:09None of them was part of the resistance.
16:11They were innocent people minding their business.
16:14This house is a 70-year-old house
16:16which did not deserve to be hit with missiles.
16:18At 1 o'clock in the morning they hit it with 1, 2, or 3 missiles,
16:21and since 1 o'clock we have been taking out the remains of children, women and elderly.
16:30Unfortunately, I hold presidents, so-called state presidents, and kings responsible.
16:35Unfortunately, they still do not care about us.
16:38It has been almost two years and they have not taken notice of our situation.
16:42Children's corpses without the head, with no hands, or sometimes no body.
16:46Buildings are being destroyed.
16:48And for how long?
16:49We are Muslims.
16:49If we weren't, the world would have supported us.
16:52Unfortunately, there are 2 billion Muslims, but I don't see them.
16:56If they were present, we would not have reached the state we are in.
16:59What I see is that this is a genocide, a planned genocide.
17:07And Palestinian authorities denounced that at least 50 Gazans have died of malnutrition
17:11due to the blockade of humanitarian aid
17:13and the continuous attacks carried out by the Israeli regime against the Gaza Strip.
17:18Local authorities warn about the dire consequence of a suffocating blockade that is keeping border crossings
17:23from allowing the entry of food supplies into the occupied areas, which photo-deteriorates the situation in the coastal enclave,
17:29pushing thousands of Palestinian families on the verge of starvation.
17:33So far, some 60,000 children have been diagnosed with severe malnutrition.
17:38Local authorities are denouncing the silence of the international community regarding the genocidal crimes of Israel.
17:44And on April 25th, the Casa Las Americas Literary Prize Award awarded in Havana
18:04was in Cuba in the categories of Pure Stories, Poetry, and Latin Studies in the United States.
18:10In the category of Poetry, the prize was awarded to Cuerpo Quebrado Lumbre by Venezuelan Esmeralda Torres
18:16because it is a book constant and deep in the stone
18:19in which the poetic character of a woodwoman undertakes a sort of inner expedition from the descent into the sea.
18:25In the category of Short Stories, the prize was awarded to The Woman Who Hated Cats by Cuban Edelmis Anoseto Vega
18:32because the volume reveals with originality and narrative complexity the true and astonishing nature of everyday life.
18:38Lastly, the category of Latin Studies in the United States was awarded to Tell Me If They Are Latin's Writings
18:45of the Equatorial Diaspora in the U.S. by Ecuadorian Cristina Burneo Salazar.
18:50The Casa de las Americas Award, to have it for any writer, is an important achievement not only for Cubans but for all Latin Americans.
19:08More than time, it has a lot of history.
19:14A very nice history, especially for the number of artists and intellectuals and writers who have been close to the prize.
19:21For me, it is one of the most important moments of my literary career and of my life because, of course,
19:28literature is my life.
19:34Honor is a word that is too small for the overflowing sensation I have when I am here.
19:42The workshop was a super nourishing space of exchange for me, to rethink many things related to dramaturgy,
19:49to Latin American dramaturgy, to poetry, to politics, and to the theatrical work in a broad sense,
19:55and also to the encounter between people who produce cultural sense, who are dedicated to art.
