00:00Colombian parliamentary group Autodefensas Conquistadores de la Sierra asked President
00:13Gustavo Petro to arrange a meeting with the Venezuelan government.
00:20In France, the left-wing New Popular Front coalition won the most seats in the second
00:24voting round of parliamentary elections, putting them on track for an unexpected win over the
00:28far-right National Rally Party.
00:32In Palestine, Israeli occupation forces killed at least 55 Palestinians in free massacres
00:39during the last 24 hours.
00:48Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Televisa Studios in Havana,
00:52Cuba.
00:53We begin with the news.
00:54Colombian parliamentary group Autodefensas Conquistadores de la Sierra asked President
00:59Gustavo Petro to arrange a meeting with the government of Venezuela to provide details
01:04about the plans of the Venezuelan far-right against social peace.
01:08The armed group declared that they were aware of the Venezuelan president's statement
01:11and have the moral obligation to deliver the information they deem necessary.
01:15Likewise, the parliamentary group added that the Venezuelan far-right sought their influence
01:20to alter the democratic system and generate violence in Venezuela.
01:24It also reaffirmed that the construction of peace is the only way to achieve prosperity
01:29and tranquility of the communities.
01:35Through a statement on social media, the armed group has respectfully requested President
01:39Gustavo Petro to adopt pertinent measures so that the Venezuelan authorities can have
01:43a direct dialogue with their organization to provide them with information and thus
01:47initiate their respective judicial proceedings.
01:50In that sense, they reiterate that this act of peace originates in their respect for electoral
01:55processes and democracy in Venezuela so that real peace can be built and violence can be
02:00stopped for the good of the people.
02:07The Autodefensas Conquistadoras de la Sierra Nevada is a Colombian parliamentary structure
02:12that maintains territorial control in Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, in the Department of
02:17Magdalena and other nearby areas.
02:20In a historical context, the criminal diaspora is a result of the demobilization of the United
02:24Self-Defense Forces of Colombia.
02:27This group runs drug trafficking and extortion networks in tourist areas.
02:31The ACSN operates autonomously in their logistical activities and in some cases have established
02:36alliances with criminal organizations to guarantee control over areas of route and transport
02:41of illicit substances to countries such as the United States and Europe.
02:45However, in recent times, their organization has shown a willingness to negotiate with
02:49the Colombian government, declaring a unilateral ceasefire in hope of installing dialogues.
03:02The statement of the Colombian irregular armed group Autodefensas Conquistadoras de la Sierra
03:06Nevada comes after the same Colombian parliamentary group denounced contacts with the Venezuelan
03:10far-right, with the objective of generating violence and attacks in the middle of the
03:14electoral process.
03:16Leone Retamal has the details.
03:18On its ex-account, the Colombian irregular armed group Autodefensas Conquistadoras de
03:23la Sierra Nevada denounced that they were contacted by the extremist Venezuelan opposition
03:28to generate acts of violence in Venezuela and make an attempt on the life of President
03:32Maduro.
03:33This group, also known as the Pachancas, is an armed group that emerged after the demobilization
03:38of a fraction of Las Autodefensas Unidas de Colombia.
03:44Our units in the Department of La Guajira have been contacted by the extremist right
03:48groups from Venezuela to destabilize the government of the Republic of Venezuela.
03:53The interlocutors have made all kinds of requests, among them to attack the Venezuelan electrical
03:58infrastructure, to act against the candidate president Nicolás Maduro, to act in case
04:03he is re-elected by infiltrating protests and generating chaos in the streets.
04:10The Venezuelan president reacted to this accusation by requesting an investigation
04:15of those involved.
04:16The video is known one day before the beginning of the electoral campaign, and a little more
04:21than three weeks before the elections.
04:24We are in a battle for the right to peace, for the right to peace, the right to peace,
04:33and no one is going to spoil Venezuela, I assure you.
04:39The Attorney General instructed to investigate this complaint as soon as possible.
04:46It is undoubtedly an attack against peace, against the Constitution, against the Venezuelan
04:51legal system, but also against the Venezuelan people.
04:55All this, and this is the most serious, within the framework of an electoral process, where
05:00some minority sectors of the right wing, aligned with the White House, have already considered
05:05fraud in case they are not favored by the will of the people.
05:13They wanted to kill me over and over again, and they couldn't.
05:19Venezuelan authorities have denounced nine conspiracies, including assassination attempts
05:23or attempts against political leaders, in the last time, five during 2023 and four during
05:29this year, the most recent on March 25, during the registration of Maduro's candidacy in
05:34the CNA.
05:35Despite the constant security and counterintelligence measures, some plots saw the light of day,
05:41such as the attempted assassination with drones in 2018 and the Gideon operation in 2020.
05:47At other times, the political situation of the country has been much more delicate, much
05:52more complex.
05:54The actions of these sectors have been very avid and with enormous logistics.
05:59All this with less experience of entering this scenario, the security forces have neutralized
06:05Although the possibility of political violence has been eradicated among the bulk of the
06:10population and political actors, there are remnants that still aspire to confrontation
06:15between Venezuelans.
06:17The agenda of violence in this country is discarded by most political actors, as well
06:21as by the Venezuelan society.
06:25Political forces continue their course of campaigning, while President Maduro has insisted
06:29on alerting social organizations to avoid scenarios of violence.
06:34In Argentina, adjustments continue in the science and technology sector, which reports
06:43a drop of up to 30.4% with respect to the year 2023.
06:47According to a report by experts in budgetary matters, during the first half of the year,
06:51the real execution of the science and technology function decreased in an accelerated manner,
06:56consolidating itself as an abrupt setback with respect to the measurements made since 1972.
07:02Likewise, the salaries of the sector's workers have experienced a real decrease of up to 26.3%.
07:09Similarly, cuts of almost 95% were reached in the Secretariat of Innovation, Science
07:14and Technology, and up to 85.6% in university budgets.
07:24On Sunday, in Cuba, the forces of the Ministry of the Interior announced they dismantled
07:28a terrorist plot against Cuba organized and financed by the United States.
07:32Cuban authorities highlighted that as a result of the investigation carried out by the Ministry
07:36of the Interior, Cuban citizens are Denis Garcia Alvarez, the mastermind of those actions
07:41planned in the territory of the United States, who had illegally immigrated to that country
07:44since 2014, was arrested, as well as other involved people residing in Cuba after entering
07:51the island illegally by sea and bringing with them firearms and ammunition.
08:00In this regard, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez said on his ex-account the following,
08:07Forces of the Ministry of the Interior dismantled a terrorist plan against Cuba organized and
08:12financed from U.S. territory.
08:14We are not a terrorist country.
08:16We have been and are victims of terrorism.

08:46Welcome back.
08:58In France, the left-wing New Popular Front coalition won the most seats in the second
09:02voting round of parliamentary elections, putting them on track for an unexpected win over the
09:06far-right National Rally Party.
09:08More than 32 million French citizens participated in the parliamentary round of elections to
09:13elect 501 out of the 577 seats that make up the country's National Assembly.
09:18According to experts, if the electoral body confirms the turnout data of the last round,
09:23it will be a figure not seen since 1997.
09:25During the first round, 76 deputies had been elected, 39 of them representatives of the
09:30far-right National Rally Party.
09:33Following the results, Prime Minister Gabriel Atal said he would offer his resignation to
09:37President Macron.
09:40We are not ready to enter into prayers with his departure to make combinations, especially
09:55after having shared tirelessly after seven years his policy of social mistreatment, of
10:05ecological denunciation.
10:07The French people, I come to confirm the good reasons in which we must do especially
10:12after the vote spoke, after which Popular Front despite all the challenges of all the
10:20defamations of all the insults, we have the victory today that the people have given us.
10:28Coalition leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon stressed that President Emmanuel Macron has a duty
10:33to call on the new Popular Front to govern.
10:39He has to admit his defeat without trying to manipulate or change it in any way the
10:43Prime Minister must.
10:51Who never received the confidence of the National Assembly comes from leading the campaign lost
10:56by his party and received a massive popular challenge vote.
11:06The President must and has a duty to call the new Popular Front to govern.
11:14Secretary General of the Socialist Party Olivier Fauré assured that it is time to continue
11:19building the nation.
11:24The danger of the far right of the national grouping was confronted, we must continue
11:28to fight on the great axes.
11:39It is time to continue building the nation, there is a moment before and after this July.
11:53In the coming days it will be the role of the Popular Front and of this our center and
11:57the socialist family to reform a collective project of our country.
12:04Leader of the National Rally Party Jordan Bardella thanked the people for their participation
12:09and serenity before the election results.
12:13The French people have spoken, marking this election with a historical participation rate.
12:21French people have honored democracy, I want to thank the voters of the national grouping
12:29and its allies for the patriotic attitude they expressed, I thank them for their mobilization,
12:37In Bangladesh, authorities reported that the death toll from floods this week rose
12:58to eight, leaving more than two million affected after hurricanes caused major rivers to burst
13:02their banks.
13:03The government informed it opened hundreds of shelters for people displaced by the waters
13:08and sent food and relief to hard-hit districts in the country's north region.
13:12Disaster Management Ministry Secretary Kamrul Hassan said 17 of the country's 64 districts
13:18have been affected.
13:19The South Asian nation of 170 million people has seen more frequent floods in recent years.
13:25Climate change has made rainfall more erratic and melting glaciers upstream in the Himalayan
13:29mountains.
13:35Around 23,000 people took shelter in 3,000 shelter centers and around 2 million people
13:41have been directly affected by the flood in 19 districts of the country.
13:50Now the flood situation is improving and the flood water is receding in some places but
13:55it can inundate the lower land more because this water comes from the Himalayas in Nepal
14:01through India and falls to the Bay of Bengal.
14:07Also in Nepal, at least 14 people lost their lives and dozens were injured in incidents
14:11related to floods caused by heavy rains.
14:14According to the police spokesman, this water phenomenon increased the flow of the nation's
14:18main rivers to the point of flooding several cities, causing damage to homes and most of
14:23the territory's roads.
14:25Police sources also detailed that nine people are still missing due to landslides caused
14:28by the rainfall and warned that the death toll could increase.
14:32The Nepal Department of Hydrology and Climatology reiterated the continuation of a red and orange
14:37alert due to the danger posed by the heavy rains.

15:22Welcome back.
15:33Palestinian Israeli occupation forces killed at least 55 Palestinians in three massacres
15:37in the last 24 hours.
15:39The Ministry of Health reported that these actions left 123 wounded.
15:44The authorities also warned that many of the victims remain under the rubble of the infrastructure
15:47damaged by the bombardments, so there is a possibility that both figures could be even
15:52higher.
15:53According to the most recent health report, 38,153 Palestinians have been killed and 87,828
16:00have been wounded since October 2023, when the Israeli war against the Gaza Strip began.
16:10The occupation forces continue to bombard various areas in the occupied Palestinian
16:14territories.
16:15Recently, Palestinian authorities reported shelling in the city of Rafah, south of the
16:19Gaza Strip, resulting in the documented death of at least three Palestinians in Chaburak
16:24refugee camp, located in the center of the city.
16:28The bodies were later transported to the Nasser Medical Complex in Hanounis, and again, according
16:33to medical sources, the actual death toll could be even higher.
16:44In Israel, marking the ninth month since the start of the genocidal war on the Gaza Strip,
16:48settlers took to the streets expressing their rejection over the policies of the government
16:52of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
16:55Demonstrators blocked major roads and gathered in front of the homes of members of the Israeli
16:59parliament, demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and called
17:05for a ceasefire to enable the return of the hostages still being held by Hamas militants.
17:10Demonstrators also called on international mediators to step up their efforts to reach
17:14an agreement, postressing the urgency of finding a way for the region to live in peace
17:20rather than in an endless war.
17:28In Niger, the heads of states of Burkina Faso, Ibrahim Traore of Mali, Azimi Goita, and the
17:33host, Abdourahmane Tshiani, signed the treaty creating the Confederation of Sahel States.
17:40The historic agreement took place within the framework of the first summit of the Alliance
17:44of Sahel States, and according to the signatories, it is a decisive step towards a long-delayed
17:49dream for their peoples, the creation of the Sahelian Federation, that will allow the promotion,
17:55cooperation and integration of the countries of the area in fundamental issues such as
17:59security, development, economy and fight against terrorism.
18:02Its promoters assure that it is urgent for Africa to distance itself from foreign powers
18:07and extend this call to the community of West African states.
18:10ECHO WASP
18:15The summit itself is historic because it is the first summit of the Alliance of Sahel
18:20States.
18:21Obviously we expect to launch the foundation of the alliance and we expect important decisions
18:25such as the process of creating a common currency, the redeployment of our forces, a single military
18:32command for our troops to fight terrorism in the military border zone.
18:50Eurofighter World 2024 is in its final stages after the quarter-finals round concluded on
18:55Saturday.
18:56In this way, Spain defeated Germany in an agonizing manner, in what fans and experts
19:01highlighted as an anticipated final of what had been the two best teams of the competition.
19:06On the other hand, France defeated Portugal on penalties after a goalless match.
19:10On the other hand, also in penalties advanced England to the semifinals, tying 1-1 with
19:15Switzerland in the 90 minutes, and meanwhile the Netherlands defeated Turkey 2-1 in the
19:21quarter-finals.
19:22In this context, the semifinals are thus defined between the games of Spain vs. France and
19:27England vs. Netherlands.
19:32It's going to be a semifinal to take seriously.
19:37I think they're one of the best teams in this competition and they play great football.
19:41But then it's a game we're used to playing.
19:43We like big games.
19:44I think we'll be ready for Tuesday.
19:48It is much more valuable to have a great team, to be better as a team than to have stars.
19:54And I think we are showing that.
19:56Maybe we don't have those top names or those superstars.
19:59But I think as a team we are very good.
20:01We play good football and so far we are doing very well.
20:08Meanwhile, the semifinals of the 2024 Copa América have been confirmed as favourites
20:12Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay as well as Canada are still in competition.
20:16In this way, in the semifinals round, Lionel Messi's Argentina facing Canada will be defending
20:21the title that they won for the 15th time in Brazil in 2021, while Uruguayan team will
20:26meet Colombia.
20:27As part of Uruguay, it must be stressed that it's 16th trophy of this event in 45 appearances.
20:33Colombia has shown for many the best in the current tournament, led by former Real Madrid
20:39James Rodriguez.
20:41On the other hand, Canada, who will host the next FIFA World Cup, is without a doubt the
20:45revelation team as it has advanced to the semifinals in its first ever participation.
20:49And I think now on the back of two really strong performances, we have an incredible
20:57task at the semifinal to play against the best team in the world.
21:01So we're excited.
21:02But, you know, again, I said this before, we're we're excited but not satisfied.
21:09We have come to the end of this news brief.
