00:00 I started getting pictures and videos of little baby Charlie
00:02 and I was like, "Oh no, I'm in trouble."
00:05 I'm Mandy and this is Charlie's story for GeoWeeds.
00:08 Charlie was found under a deck with his other litter mates
00:12 and was taken to a rescue here in Kansas.
00:15 Charlie has cerebellar hyperplasia
00:17 or wobbly cat syndrome.
00:19 It is a condition they are born with,
00:20 causes their cerebellum in their brain to be underdeveloped.
00:24 So underdeveloped causes them to be wobbly.
00:26 It does not cause any pain or dizziness.
00:28 Charlie's favorite toy.
00:30 Because of his special needs, you definitely want to get them out of the shelter when they will be put down.
00:34 I decided that I would help and foster Charlie.
00:37 He weighed under a pound when I got him.
00:40 He had a lot of health issues.
00:41 Hi, you be careful.
00:43 I'll save you the details, but lots of tummy troubles.
00:46 I got him into a vet as quick as possible.
00:48 Hi.
00:50 We had to do a deep dive into some testing to find out,
00:53 but we figured out it was a bacterial infection in his intestines.
00:56 Good boy.
00:58 It took a few months for him to probably be completely healthy,
01:02 but he got stronger.
01:03 He gets himself up and around and he's awesome.
01:07 Hello.
01:08 Charlie has one of the most amazing personalities I've met in a cat.
01:12 I know he's a kitten, but this is another level of kitten that I have experienced.
01:16 Kitten.
01:17 [meow]
01:18 [laugh]
01:19 He is so playful.
01:22 He's so smart.
01:23 He is so sweet with all of our other kitties.
01:27 Willy Wonky is my other special needs cat.
01:30 He has a neurological disorder that causes him to wobble as well.
01:33 Willy-ons!
01:35 [meow]
01:36 Charlie just wants to be everybody's friend,
01:38 and he doesn't know that he's different.
01:40 [meow]
01:41 [laugh]
01:42 If he runs, he might run into a wall, but it doesn't stop him.
01:46 He's a very resilient cat.
01:48 [meow]
01:49 [laugh]
01:50 You want up?
01:51 He cannot jump up on furniture.
01:52 He tries, but he cannot jump up on furniture.
01:55 But that's about it.
01:56 He can do everything else.
01:57 [meow]
01:58 Are you trying to climb on the couch?
01:59 He'll start tapping on my foot, grab my foot,
02:02 or I'll just see him start taking a flying leap trying to get on the couch.
02:06 So I usually catch him and help him up.
02:08 You know when cats get the zoomies?
02:09 He has the zoomies plus crazy wobbles.
02:11 Jesus Christ.
02:12 [laugh]
02:13 [laugh]
02:14 So he is just all over the place.
02:17 But it's so nice to see him feeling good and energetic.
02:21 [laugh]
02:23 And I think his confidence has grown since I've had him.
02:27 Our bond is so special, and I love that we can practically communicate together our needs.
02:32 He knows when I'm sad.
02:34 He knows when I need some extra love.
02:35 And I can always tell what his needs are for the most part.
02:39 Even when he's sleeping, he just gives me so much serotonin just laying with him.
02:42 He's so soft like a little bunny too.
02:44 I see him getting stronger every day, and it just makes me so happy.
02:48 I was trying to approach it that we were just going to foster him,
02:51 but I fell so madly in love.
02:53 And my husband and I were like, "Game over. He's staying."
02:56 [crunching]
02:58 [laugh]
02:59 [MUSIC PLAYING]
