00:00 He was alone at the petting zoo by himself.
00:02 You could see his skin and bones and he needed help.
00:04 (cow mooing)
00:05 I am Tracy and this is Simon's story for GeoBeats.
00:08 He was rescued by a great volunteer for us.
00:11 He was extremely skinny.
00:13 He was by himself, looked very unhappy.
00:15 Ready?
00:18 He needed to be under intensive care for about a week
00:21 before he could come to us.
00:22 - There we go.
00:23 - He was so excited and he was just a young, happy calf
00:29 and jumping and running.
00:30 He was finally home and at peace.
00:33 - Hello guys.
00:34 - Hi.
00:35 - Hey, there's purple.
00:37 (dog barking)
00:39 - At that point, he was able to join the rest of our animals.
00:48 - Come on big boy.
00:49 - We had him in this group of animals
00:51 that we call our misfit group
00:52 because they're all animals that have special needs.
00:55 He was really bonded with our turkey, Ombre.
00:58 - I know.
00:59 - I took care of Simon like a little baby.
01:01 He would protect him.
01:02 He'd stand in between us and Simon
01:04 and he'd be like, okay, this is my guy.
01:07 After he started to get a little too big
01:09 for the rest of the misfit group,
01:11 he was ready to join the rest of our cows.
01:13 They were all excited to see him.
01:20 If they're not with their mother,
01:25 they need to be bottle fed multiple times a day,
01:27 which at a petting zoo, that's slightly not happening.
01:30 - You need to be with mom.
01:32 - He likes to be on his little, okay?
01:34 I remember bottle feeding him,
01:36 which was really a neat experience.
01:38 I had to know that he's getting the proper nutrition
01:40 and that he's happy and he's feeling his belly
01:43 and he's doing everything that a cow should do.
01:45 He really thrived and he got to make friends,
01:48 which he didn't have at the petting zoo.
01:51 You could tell he was going to have a lot of personality
01:53 as he grew up.
01:55 Now he's well over a thousand pounds
01:57 and he's kind of a mischievous teenage boy.
02:00 He has grown to be pretty much bigger
02:04 than the rest of our cows.
02:06 Most of our cows are older
02:07 and he joined our cow herd when he was young.
02:09 He had to learn how to be a cow around from our other cows.
02:13 And so he took his place at the end of the line of the cows
02:16 as far as his hierarchy goes.
02:19 Now he's learning he's an adult
02:22 and that he can be more of a leader than he used to be.
02:25 Cows are very smart.
02:27 They need love.
02:27 They need the same things that our pets do at home.
02:30 He knows his name.
02:31 He's always the first to the fence to get food and treats.
02:35 And he is happy as can be.
02:37 You wouldn't be able to tell that he had a rough life
02:39 before he came to us.
