00:00And as reported, Venezuela holds a day of consultation on community projects to improve
00:04the welfare of the people and address their needs.
00:06From Caracas, our correspondent Glais Quezada for more details on today's electoral exercise.
00:11So thanks for the time and the moment here in TELUS for English and also to all our audience
00:16and from the south.
00:17At this moment I'm with the observers, the international observers that came here to
00:22Caracas, Venezuela to accompany this process of the popular consultation that is going
00:29to have place today, Sunday, April 21st.
00:32With me I have one of the observers and he is accompanying us and giving us his impressions.
00:40So first of all, your full name?
00:41Hi, my name is Nick Daberevich.
00:43I'm from the Red Ant Collective in Australia.
00:46So it's a pleasure for us to have you here.
00:48So which one are, or what are your impressions regarding this process and which are your
00:55expectations regarding today?
00:58I've found this process so far already, learning about it, very inspirational.
01:02I'd like to bring back that feeling of inspiration and struggle from Venezuela back to Australia.
01:08So for you, how this is different in terms of popular will and popular power and organizations,
01:18if you have a contrast or maybe comparing it with other parts of the world, other systems
01:23or other grassroots organizations of this kind?
01:28In comparison to Australia, the process that's happening in Venezuela is definitely an example
01:33of true representation, true representative democracy where the people truly have a voice
01:38and get to decide what they want.
01:43That's very different in my opinion to the form of democracy that exists in Australia
01:49where the people do not truly have a voice in the system.
01:54Also, I wanted to ask, this is the first popular consultation in Venezuela despite the fact
02:02that the 1999 constitution contemplates the popular will.
02:07So this kind of structure is gaining traction in Venezuela and also what does it say about
02:14a country and a whole nation that is under siege, under political and economic siege
02:19that is also having this kind of processes and giving the people the opportunity to decide
02:23for themselves regarding the resources that the country has that are limited also?
02:28Yeah, I definitely think that particularly this example, I think it is important for
02:36this example to be shared outside of Venezuela, particularly in Australia to combat the lies
02:42and the distortions that exist about Venezuela and to show that the people are truly involved
02:47in the political process here.
02:49Well, thanks for your opinions, thanks for your time.
02:52I hope this process goes well and I hope also that you gave or take the impressions back home.
03:00Thank you, thank you very much.
03:01So thank you and yes, we will continue accompanying all the international observers.
03:06More than 200 international observers are accompanying this process and they are also
03:11going not only to the polling centers, they will be going to all the popular communes
03:18to see the people themselves, to see how they are organized and what they are fighting for
03:23and what they are deciding for today.
03:26So far this is the information but we will have more contacts in the day and this is
03:32the information so back to you.
03:35Thank you, Clarice, for the information.
03:37We are going to continue following the current electoral day in Venezuela.
