00:00Pilbuck suffers from congenital dwarfism. This is about the size that Pilbuck is.
00:04He's four years old, he can't jump, he can't meow, and he's blind.
00:08My name is Brooke and this is Pilbuck's story for GeoBeats.
00:12Pilbuck was found with a litter of kittens in someone's backyard. The mom cat was not around.
00:17A trapper had rescued the litter and given them to our rescue group,
00:22which is Broken Tail Rescue, and he needed a lot of extra love and care.
00:27He was severely underweight. He was put into foster while the other kittens found.
00:33Homes were adopted immediately.
00:42His foster mom did an amazing job. She would carry him around at work with her in a little hoodie.
00:48She would feed him with a syringe every hour, so she kept him alive during those first few weeks.
00:53Once I saw him and then I showed my soon-to-be-husband, you know, like,
00:57we need this cat, and he was like, yes. And yep, he came home with us.
01:01Who's the cutest baby?
01:03He just was the cutest, tiniest little thing. He was probably the size of a mouse at that point,
01:09and he gets his name Pilbuck because he would curl up like a Pilbuck.
01:13Because of the congenital dwarfism, he has very limited mobility.
01:17He cannot jump at all, not even over someone's shoe.
01:21He's so vicious. Oh my goodness. Oh my goodness.
01:24It's pretty funny when he runs. It's almost like he's hopping like a bunny.
01:30We had to do some rearranging of items in the house.
01:34It's my favorite present.
01:36We had to create stairs to get to his litter box because he couldn't jump into his litter box.
01:41My husband built him a set of stairs so he could get up to a window perch to look outside.
01:47He can purr. He can't meow. No one's ever told us why he can't meow.
01:51He would sit with us for hours on the couch, and he has created this amazing bond with my husband.
01:58He would sit with him all night if he could, and he just sits and purrs with my husband.
02:02And purrs to the point he's so happy he drools.
02:04He did not follow me, but he follows my husband.
02:07From the minute he gets up in the morning and goes in the kitchen,
02:10Pillbug is laying in his little bed.
02:12He just knows and he gets up and follows him and starts rubbing on his legs and wants attention.
02:19Down the road we determined that it was time to move to a new house.
02:22We decided to move to a house that we could afford,
02:25but we also wanted to have a place to live.
02:28So we decided to move to a place that we could afford,
02:30and we decided that we wanted to move to a place that we could afford.
02:33we determined that he was completely blind.
02:36He also started getting corneal ulcers,
02:39which was causing him pain.
02:40It was the decision of us and the vet
02:43that the best way to relieve that pain
02:46and make him more comfortable was to remove both his eyes.
02:49He had the surgery two weeks ago,
02:51and he seems like a whole new cat.
02:54He just seems happier and more comfortable.
02:56You wouldn't know he was blind
02:58because of these issues that he has.
03:00Vets are very curious.
03:02They don't see him having a regular cat's lifespan,
03:05but who knows?
