A dry and bright start for most across much of England and Wales but rain in the southwest and the far south of England becoming heavy with downpours in places, leading to the risk of disruption with localised flooding impacts possible. Thunder may also be possible in any downpours. This will steadily move northwards into Wales with further rain spreading northwards across southeast England and East Anglia. Much of northern England, Northern Ireland and Scotland, drier with some sunshine but a few showers developing in the afternoon. Warmer for most but feeling humid further south and southeast. – This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the morning of 15/07/24. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Jonathan Vautrey

00:00Hello there, very good morning to you. A new week often gives you the chance to start afresh.
00:05Unfortunately, the weather hasn't quite caught the memo. Still stuck in the same pattern,
00:09I'm afraid. More areas of low pressure heading towards us over the next few days. Maybe brief
00:13ridges of high pressure to settle things down, but not before another area of low arrives.
00:17Why? Well, the jet stream is still stuck in the very same position it has been pretty
00:21much for the whole of summer so far. It's moving directly towards the UK and helping
00:26to push those areas of low pressure towards us as well, bringing that changeable and unsettled
00:31theme for yet another week. If we rewind back to the start of Monday morning, then our first
00:37area of low pressure is moving its way into the southwest and is already bringing some
00:41outbreaks of rain to areas of southwest England. These will be very quickly turning quite heavy,
00:46potentially some torrential downpours of rain and thunderstorms also possible. And so there
00:51is a yellow rain warning in force for southwest England and Wales. Do take care because some
00:56localised flooding and travel disruption is certainly possible. Some of that rain just
01:00moving into the southeast of England as well will feel quite humid here under all of there,
01:04but generally the northern half of the UK generally staying dry. A few showers to watch
01:08out for, but with some bright and sunny spells around. Temperatures responding in that brightness
01:12around 20 to 22 degrees Celsius here. So certainly for parts of northern England and eastern
01:17Scotland where it has been so cloudy over the weekend, today is going to feel like a
01:20much better day here. That rain will continue its progression northwards as we head throughout
01:25this evening and overnight. Again, some heavy thundery pulses possible for southeast England.
01:30It will eventually stall a bit across parts of north Wales into the Midlands over towards
01:34the Humber and Yorkshire area during the second half of the night. Dryer for Scotland and
01:39Northern Ireland, still a fair amount of cloud around, maybe an isolated shower in the mixture,
01:43but underneath all that cloud for many of us, it is going to be a very mild night. Temperatures
01:47not dropping much lower than 13 or 15 degrees Celsius. We'll be picking up a bit of a breeze
01:53around southern areas of England during Tuesday, and particularly as the area of low pressure
01:58swirls its way around towards the North Sea will turn quite gusty along some coastlines.
02:02For your morning rush hour on Tuesday, then it's going to be north Wales into that Midlands
02:06Humber area that sees the heaviest of pulses before the rain eventually clears. Behind
02:10that is a mixture of sunshine and showers. Some of those showers again on the heavy side,
02:14potentially quite sharp and thundery for eastern counties of England up towards eastern
02:18Scotland as well. Temperatures on Tuesday ranging between 19 and 23 degrees Celsius.
02:24So again, if you do catch one of those sunnier spells, it will feel quite pleasant and warm
02:28if you are outside. There's plenty more updates on what we can see for the full week ahead
02:34during our week ahead forecast that will be uploaded to YouTube later on today. So make
02:39sure you're subscribing for that and we'll see you again here very soon. Bye bye.
