00:00 A multi-arm means a multi-threat. Here's a look at the brand-new Mattel Massive Universe
00:05 Masterverse New Eternia Trap Jaw.
00:09 Victory was in reach as Trap Jaw raised his cybernetic claw over man-at-arms. As He-Man
00:35 summoned the power of Greyskull, Trap Jaw suddenly crossed dimensions into a shattered world,
00:40 New Eternia. This is one of Skeletor's cronies where you have to worry more about his bite than
00:45 his bark. Before, of course, we get a closer look at the New Eternia Trap Jaw, the tape measure
00:49 tells us at least that the figure is almost seven inches in height or it's 17 and a half centimeters
00:54 tall. My stand-in for seven-inch scale Trap Jaws was always really the one we got from Revelation
01:00 because we don't really have any others of this size. Trap Jaw for this Revelation was a fine
01:04 looking Trap Jaw and he still remains to be a fine Trap Jaw. Proportion-wise, you can see that this
01:09 one is a little bit taller than we got here from the New Eternia, but they are using some of the
01:14 molds. It looks to be like they're using the same torso pieces. The loincloths also look like they
01:19 might have been shared between the two, but they have also retooled a lot of brand new elements.
01:23 You'll see in a second that even some of the component pieces that he has on his shoulders
01:27 are different from the one that we got from Revelation. Also bringing in, of course,
01:31 Trap Jaw from Mass Universe Origins, I still am thinking it's one of my least favorite of the
01:35 Origins. Just something about that Trap Jaw just never really worked for me. Of course, on this
01:40 side, while we don't have necessarily fill-in figures from New Eternia, stand-ins as was the
01:45 case with with Trap Jaw, of course, we have stand-in versions here of Revelation Triclops
01:49 and of course, Revelation's Merman. While being packed with his laser gun, be sure to check the
01:54 compartment space next to the figure because inside of that, as you saw the opener of this review,
01:58 was a tiny little baggie that stored the following accessories. Trap Jaw also comes
02:02 included with his hook and one that looks like a mouser's head that opens and closes.
02:05 Either one of these can be attached onto a side forearm or you can also holster them onto the
02:11 back of the figure's belt. If you look at the figure and spin him around, located on the back,
02:15 you can see there's two little holstered pieces that actually then take the hook pieces, see the
02:19 little hook on the side, and like all the usual Trap Jaws, they just clip onto the side and then
02:24 you can decide for yourself, of course, which way you'd like to have the figure displayed.
02:27 Usually when it comes to Trap Jaw, I'm either one that usually likes to display him with a hook
02:33 or probably like the laser gun. One other accessory that the figure also comes included
02:36 with that's just off to the side for reasons unknown, the figure also comes with a sword.
02:41 It's a slightly shorter blade sword but it does have some really neat detailing. You can see
02:45 there's the skull just by the garden hilt. The hilt is about the only thing that actually gets
02:49 colored while the rest of it remains just the dark silver plastic but man, it looks really nice. Of
02:54 course, he only has really one functioning hand so you're going to take that and clip that into his
02:58 hand or what you can also do too, Trap Jaw, if you spin around the figure where we just finished
03:03 looking, on the top there's also a little section here where you can holster the sword. It just
03:07 slides on the top there. So he really has the means to store all of the accessories and then,
03:12 of course, as I mentioned, the figure comes also included with his laser gun. Usually for me,
03:16 the laser gun or the hook are the two tools that I usually rely on when it comes to displaying
03:20 the figures. This one actually, funny enough though, is darker in color. I'm surprised that
03:25 they didn't keep the colors consistent because this one is actually closer to the coloring of
03:28 his arm and yet the hook and the clawing tool is a lighter coloring of gunmetal gray. I don't know
03:34 why they just didn't keep the colors all the same but if you wanted to attach it, it all works the
03:38 same way. You basically take the end peg here and fit it into the dowel hole and just fit it in place
03:43 like that. Trap Jaw now has his laser gun and again, if you just wanted to swap that out, just
03:48 rinse and repeat by taking the other two tools, just taking them off and just attaching the exact
03:53 same way. You do have to struggle, I've noticed a little bit, to get that all the way on there
03:58 but then he also has again like the clawing tool. The clawing tool does also give him some extra
04:02 reach as well. I don't think it says... I don't know. I don't think it works as well for him to
04:06 be wielding this as a weapon. Speaking though of weapons though, not that... I guess I probably
04:10 could keep that one in place. The one other... the one weapon that he comes included with,
04:14 I was talking about earlier being darker in color, actually does bring one thing to mind.
04:18 I'm going to bring in the one that we got here from the Revelation Trap Jaw. I'm surprised that
04:24 some of the accessories aren't actually the exact same mold. I just expected that the laser gun was
04:28 going to be exactly the same but you'll see already brand new molds for all of these so
04:33 that's a little strange but again like it's just a case of popping these off and whatever weapons
04:37 you don't end up wielding with them, just take those other tools and just take the weapons and
04:41 slide them into those little holsters. I like the look of that. While I do like the idea that he has
04:46 a place to store the sword, one thing I don't like about the figure... I'm just going to take
04:49 these all off for right now... one thing I don't like about the figure is that this little section
04:53 here, the extra part to his bandolier armor, is a different color of plastic than the normal black
04:58 that he has on one side. Bringing in the Revelation Trap Jaw only just to drive home the idea that
05:03 most of his armor usually is always black. I don't know why for reasons unknown they decided
05:07 to keep the color of the armor kind of more this off bluish silver. I don't think it really works
05:12 as well with Trap Jaw. It looks pretty close to the coloring of his arm but I would rather
05:18 if this had just been black instead. I think it's just a little bit jarring. I don't think the
05:22 colors... I mean if you look at the colors even like the colors of his arm for example, all the
05:26 cybernetic pieces that he has added on to his skin isn't even the same color as this so for again
05:32 reasons unknown they decided to make it this color. I think they should have just kept it the color of
05:36 the black instead. All this time of talking about his armor... I'm just going to remove the sword
05:40 also. I'm just going to put that to the side. Getting a closer look at Trap Jaw's face.
05:44 This one does drive home a little more of that classic look to Trap Jaw. Maybe if you weren't
05:49 as keen on the idea of what Trap Jaw looked like in Revelation. Now I know certainly when it came
05:53 to Revelation both him and Triclops came in clear with extra pieces if they wanted to be of course
05:58 what was it... Mother One? I'm trying to remember the name... what was the name of the cybernetic...
06:03 it's going to come to me a little bit later. Anyways though they all of course became part of
06:07 that cult and they got cybernetic pieces added on to them. I just kind of kept more the the regular
06:12 figures to more their classic look and for the time he was and still continues to be a nice
06:17 looking Trap Jaw. One thing I really like that this one has that this one doesn't really have
06:21 is that the jaw was a little bit more closer to his nose. It really drove home more the idea that
06:25 he had a big giant clamping jaw on the bottom of his face. This Trap Jaw also even though this
06:29 review really isn't about the Revelation version did also have a sported tongue. Now that's something
06:34 that some of the collectors didn't really like. Usually I just keep the clamp so close to his
06:38 nose anyways you really can't even see the fact he does have a sticking out tongue. This Trap Jaw
06:42 does similar things although with this one looks a little bit more like the classic looking Trap
06:47 Jaw. He does have an open mouth although with this one I shouldn't even have said mouth. If you look
06:52 at the inside of it the whole bottom half of his face is completely missing. What he gets instead
06:58 is sort of more like just I guess what's remaining left behind of his mouth but it also kind of in a
07:02 way looks like he's got his mouth open like this the inside of his mouth. Definitely it's a better
07:06 looking head sculpt. Definitely looks a little bit more like a classic looking Trap Jaw and the
07:10 colors look also really quite good as well. Whereas this one may have used more darker blues
07:15 this one I think resonates better for me with more the lighter approach of blue that they went with.
07:19 I did mention that some of the tooling had to be involved so if you look at the shoulder for
07:23 example the little component I guess that's a little plug connecting piece that he has in his
07:28 shoulders. Thought may have been a carryover from the one we got from Revelation but you can see
07:31 it's a different mold altogether. He also has now additional cybernetic pieces added to the back of
07:36 his tricep on his elbow and lower half of his arm whereas like the Revelation would have had a green
07:41 arm guard that matches the color of course of the belt for the front. The belts are also something
07:45 that's very different too not carry over at all maybe the loincloths maybe the legs underneath
07:50 and certainly the torso are all things that get carried between the figures but there's a lot of
07:54 new tooling elements that get brought to the table when it comes to Trap Jaw. The end result is a nice
07:59 looking figure. Of course the belt is one thing that is still continuing a floating piece underneath
08:03 this it would have been still the same loincloth that we got with other figures. I think the most
08:07 recent one we looked at here on this channel is probably Faker. I still got to get another Faker.
08:11 That other figure just has a big blue smudge across the top of his forehead. It all uses the
08:15 same sort of loincloth underneath fairly softer plastic. They actually still have molded a purple
08:20 piece underneath so if you were to lift the loincloth the colors are somewhat matching. He's
08:25 got the little green parts there on the tops that aren't the same green parts there for I know again
08:28 I continue to bring back in the Revelation but it's the best one at least from a size standpoint
08:32 to just drive home again the idea that there's a lot of new stuff going on here with Trap Jaw
08:37 that while I did think may have been carried over from Revelation it's really just the body
08:41 underneath everything over top of him is brand new. Of course he doesn't have as big of a bulkier
08:45 knee pad the other Revelation would have had that and he has a much bigger arm also as well like this
08:50 one would have streamlined it just a little bit not made it as big and bulky in the shoulders.
08:55 I gotta say like the bulk works much better here in this newer figure. When it comes certainly for
08:59 his articulation it goes without saying it's pretty much the same articulation that we get
09:03 with most of these seven inch scale figures so Trap Jaw's head does move up and down. It works
09:07 better down obviously than it does really up. You can also rock it back and forth as well. He has
09:12 that little ringlet there also on the top that if you had yourself a string you could have him
09:15 sliding across maybe don't do that maybe don't do that that might just break the plastic on the top.
09:19 His arms do rotate all the way around now with this one being the larger of the two arms still
09:23 manages to pull off a hinge joint so you can bring those arms also outward this one obviously
09:28 doesn't have any problems other than just the little plug that he has on the tops of his
09:31 shoulders. You can also take the arm and rotate it also all the way around. He has a swivel at
09:35 the bicep on this side double hinge on the elbow and the hands do rotate all the way around. His
09:40 upper torso is on a ball joint although it's really tight in this figure. So tight in fact
09:44 just even like moving them up and down there's very little in the way that you can actually do
09:49 with it. It does rotate a lot easier though in the waist section. Trap Jaw's legs do split out
09:54 there's a ball joint inside there. You can see it probably there also there's a little swivel cut
09:58 there three quarters of the way up the thigh that swivels the leg back and forth. The figure does
10:01 have a double hinge on the knee just a little tighter on this side and he also has the ankle
10:06 pivot both up and down this way and an ankle rocker as well. Trap Jaw benefits also by having peg holes
10:11 in the undersides of his feet so if you did want to use yourself a display stand by all means you
10:15 can use yourself a display stand but I gotta say like the improvements are made enough that I feel
10:19 like it was warranted picking this guy up because just for a while I just thought I was happy just
10:23 with having this guy displayed as sort of my go-to Trap Jaw as it as it now seems to be the case with
10:29 Mattel that they're now just rehashing a lot of these characters as they should. I mean obviously
10:33 Masked Universe is their bread and butter if it gives them a chance to re-release these figures
10:37 with a different deco and a different line. Obviously this was Revelation this is now New
10:41 Eternia. This one I will say though if you are more of a purist to the world classic look to
10:46 Trap Jaw and a bit of a turn off was this one just because he didn't like the idea that his
10:49 tongue was sticking out and obviously all the additional augmented pieces that he would have
10:53 had in the Revelation cartoon this one does a better job of giving us a more classic looking
10:58 Trap Jaw. Gives us brand new component pieces that weren't really found with the original one
11:02 that we got before and his arm I mean certainly if he's going to have a big giant robotic arm
11:06 this one does the better job of driving home the idea he's got a big giant robotic arm whereas this
11:11 one had it more subtly expressed. Yeah I will say like from the changes made and the colors now
11:16 approach for the new Trap Jaw if you didn't get a chance to get this one or even then if you already
11:20 have this figure in your collection don't overlook picking up this guy because you'll be really happy
11:25 with him when you get him in hand. The character I was trying to think of was Motherboard. Motherboard
11:30 by the way has anyone had the chance to check out the new Revolution Master Universe cartoon?
11:35 If you were sort of on the fence having been disappointed with Revelation definitely would
11:39 say check out Revolution. It fixes all the problems at least I had with the Master Universe Netflix
11:45 series and it puts it in a proper course correction that I'm definitely looking forward
11:49 to seeing what else they have in store for future He-Man cartoons. Definitely give it a check. Going
11:54 back though to New Eternia Trap Jaw I think the improvements made to this one does make me now
11:59 sort of rethink displaying the original Trap Jaw for Revelation as my go-to character. This guy
12:05 might just ultimately take the place for him and I might find myself doing the same thing when they
12:08 release other versions of New Eternia. I mean I liked Revelation but the problem that Revelation
12:14 took when it came to the cartoon and obviously the designs of the characters was by then changing the
12:18 way they looked all thanks to of course Motherboard it then made figures that also alienated me at
12:25 least as a collector. I hate to be the old guy that says this in the room but I like the more
12:28 traditional colors and the traditional designs of these characters and Revelation for me just wasn't
12:33 cutting it. What I do like though about Revelation what I do like at least about New Eternia Trap
12:38 Jaw is it goes back to basics. I realize that I've got the belt slightly twisted to the side but it
12:43 does go back to the basics of the way that the characters look and for me at least there's
12:47 nothing wrong with that at all. I mean yes at some point you have to redesign characters but if it
12:52 ain't broke don't fix it and considering I'm saying that for Trap Jaw where there's a lot broken on
12:57 the figure at least from a character standpoint boy I think that I really think that Mattel did a
13:00 much better job on this release that if you maybe had like I said the original Trap Jaw and didn't
13:05 think you really necessarily need to switch over to this one think again because you'll be really
13:10 happy with the results of getting this guy in your shelf. This guy is available as of right now
13:14 although the the availability I mean we always keep talking about the availability here on this
13:19 channel if you're a Canadian collector good luck even finding this guy in the wild. I ended up
13:23 ordering this online luckily though the place where I ended up finding this I think it was
13:27 actually Amazon of all things Amazon I found this guy selling for I think $38 and that's not bad at
13:33 all I'd rather pay the $38 or so that it was asking for on Amazon than going online to places like
13:38 eBay and paying even more. If you guys have had the chance to pick up New Eternia Trap Jaw let me
13:43 know what you guys think of the figure down below in the comments section. If you haven't yet picked
13:46 up New Eternia Trap Jaw let me know if there's enough done differently to this guy that you're
13:51 willing to retire the Revelation Trap Jaw if you already have him in your collection. If you guys
13:55 did enjoy this video why not throw it a like if you guys are loving the content you guys are seeing
13:59 and you'd like to stick around for more we will have more Master Universe reviews coming your way
14:04 I didn't want to necessarily say Origins, Revelation or New Eternia there's definitely
14:08 going to be more Motu reviews coming your way so making sure you're coming back here on a
14:11 regular basis. As always guys thanks for watching see you guys next time!
