00:00:23We have a sellout at the Hoosier Dome, and many of the fans will be cheering for the Cowboys.

00:00:27Dallas Cowboys make their first visit ever to the Hoosier Dome

00:00:31to take on the Indianapolis Colts in an inter-conference battle.

00:00:35Hello again, everyone. Along with Randy Cross, I'm Dick Stockton.

00:00:38The Cowboys with an impressive win over Green Bay now, even on the year of 2-2.

00:00:42But Jimmy Johnson, the head coach of Dallas, did not mince any words.

00:00:45He said, look, I'm in trouble if I have to psych up my team.

00:00:48The fact is, we are better than the Indianapolis Colts, and we should beat this team today.

00:00:52Well, Dallas has got that old confidence, the cockiness, the arrogance that winning brings on.

00:00:56But, you know, Jimmy Johnson should be a little bit worried about this game today

00:01:00because I think Indy played great in this dome, and the confidence level could get over to the arrogance.

00:01:05It could be a problem.

00:01:06Colts, of course, 2-2 as well, and they're going again with Jack Trudeau as their quarterback, Randy.

00:01:10They're going to go with Trudeau at quarterback.

00:01:12The most important thing for Jack Trudeau is first down.

00:01:14He's got to get at least four yards to take the pressure off him.

00:01:17And their defense must force Troy Aikman and the Dallas offense to do something they haven't done

00:01:21since their first two losses, and that's turn the ball over and make mistakes.

00:01:26And Jimmy Johnson, who has a chance to go over the 500 mark for the first time ever in regular season

00:01:32with a victory today.

00:01:33Remember, he was 1-15 in his first season.

00:01:36And Ted Marchabrota, who is 62 years old, returned to the Colts last year

00:01:41and led them to a 9-7 record, although Marchabrota will be quick to tell you

00:01:45it was a deceptive 9-7.

00:01:47They won their last five games against not the top quarterbacks in the league, though.

00:01:53Marchabrota's got a different leadership ability and quality about him.

00:01:56It's very much a quiet confidence.

00:01:58He instills that confidence in his players.

00:02:00He's not a yeller.

00:02:01He's not a screamer.

00:02:02He's more a guy, if they don't perform, it's almost like being disappointed

00:02:05you didn't do something for your dad.

00:02:07You know, your dad used to look at you and say, wouldn't say I'm mad,

00:02:10wouldn't say I'm angry.

00:02:11He says, I'm disappointed.

00:02:12There is Kenneth Gant on the left and Kevin Williams on the right.

00:02:15The Cowboys won the toss, and they'll receive.

00:02:17And Dean Biasucci will kick off for the Colts.

00:02:20Yeah, Marchabrota's the kind of guy you want to go see for dinner on Thanksgiving Day.

00:02:28The confidence and the cockiness, Dick, is going to show up early,

00:02:31especially in special teams.

00:02:32If the Cowboys aren't ready, you'll see it early.

00:02:39Colts and the Cowboys and a sea of blue in the crowd today and on the field as well.

00:02:45And a booming kick headed over to Kevin Williams,

00:02:49and he'll down it in the end zone for a touchback.

00:02:52So, the Cowboys go on offense.

00:02:54Troy Aikman, the number one rated passer in the NFC with all the bumps and bruises.

00:02:58And the offensive line, outstanding work by 2 and 8.

00:03:01Newton, Stepnoski, outstanding right side, in particular,

00:03:04with Gogan and Eric Williams.

00:03:06Emmitt Smith and Darrell Johnston in the backs.

00:03:08The Wildcats in the middle.

00:03:11Emmitt Smith and Darrell Johnston in the backs.

00:03:13The wide receivers, Michael Urban and Alvin Harper and the tight end, Jay Novacek.

00:03:17A brilliant quartet and quintet, we should say, of firepower on offense.

00:03:25First down on the 20-yard line.

00:03:30Operating out of the I-formation.

00:03:34And a play-action pass on first down.

00:03:36And a pass to Darrell Johnston, the fullback,

00:03:39and he gets nearly nine yards on the play with Jeff Harad,

00:03:43the linebacker, making the stop.

00:03:45Colts defensive line, 300-pounders up front with John Hand,

00:03:49Tony Siragusa, the number one pick last year,

00:03:51Steve Entman and Skip McClendon.

00:03:54The strength is the linebackers, Harad, Quentin Corriott, and Dwayne Bickett.

00:03:58And in the secondary, Eugene Daniel, Jason Belzer, John Baylor,

00:04:02and Chris Gould, who did not play against the Broncos last week.

00:04:08Second down and one.

00:04:10They bring out Johnston wide to the left and hand off to Emmitt Smith,

00:04:13and he's going to be stopped short.

00:04:15They have lost the yard on the play,

00:04:17and leading the charge was Skip McClendon, the defensive end.

00:04:22And these Colts are ready for the Cowboys' offense.

00:04:24From the standpoint, they realize the Cowboys' objective

00:04:27is to spread you out much like a run-and-shoot offense

00:04:30and open up the inside running game for Emmitt Smith.

00:04:33But with guys like Siragusa and Entman in the middle,

00:04:35Rich Venturi, who's the defensive coordinator right there,

00:04:38he knows he's got a strong base in the middle.

00:04:41It'll be third down and two, and Jim Price,

00:04:44who was acquired from the L.A. Rams in a trade,

00:04:47the second tight end, is in there number 89.

00:04:51Only one wide receiver on third down,

00:04:53and Emmitt Smith finds the hole,

00:04:55and he'll get the first down off the left side.

00:04:58He brings it out beyond the 30-yard line,

00:05:00a gain of four yards.

00:05:02John Hand and Dwayne Bickett on the tackle.

00:05:04Well, you have your two tight end.

00:05:06Look, that leads you to believe you're going to get motion,

00:05:08but what you get is a huge hole right through here.

00:05:11You talk about spreading out a defense.

00:05:13There's two ways to do it.

00:05:14You spread them out or you blow them out,

00:05:16and right there, Newton and Stepnovski in 2 and A

00:05:18just blew that side of the Colt defense away.

00:05:21Last week, the wide receivers had a ball against Green Bay,

00:05:25and let's see if the running backs can do it this time.

00:05:28Open the throw on first down,

00:05:30and the pass to Michael Irvin is caught,

00:05:32and he is close to a first down, maybe short by a yard.

00:05:35Eugene Daniel, the cornerback, in on the play,

00:05:38and a gain of nine yards.

00:05:40First down for the Colts in general is going to be important,

00:05:43not only for their offense, but also for their defense,

00:05:45because when you get this Cowboys offense,

00:05:47eight, nine, seven yards on first down,

00:05:50you open up their whole playbook.

00:05:52It enables them to run on second down.

00:05:54It enables them to pass on third down.

00:05:56It enables them to go deep.

00:05:58Seven catches for 155 yards,

00:06:01and a touchdown grab last week against the Packers.

00:06:04Second down and one.

00:06:05Alvin Harper is in motion.

00:06:07And again, they go to Eric Smith, looking for room.

00:06:10He's trapped and thrown for another loss

00:06:12inside the 40-yard line.

00:06:15So the Colt defense clogging the middle,

00:06:17and once again, Skip McClendon,

00:06:19the former Cincinnati Bengal, in on the play.

00:06:22And if you are getting spread out,

00:06:24the most important thing, control the line of scrimmage.

00:06:27Play on their side of the ball,

00:06:29and don't give the running back anywhere to go.

00:06:32You saw Steve Emtman made the initial penetration,

00:06:35and a great job by the other six guys up front

00:06:37in that front seven of maintaining their lanes

00:06:40and filling on Emtman.

00:06:41A loss of three yards.

00:06:43So once again, the Cowboys have third down and four.

00:06:46Price is in again as the second tight end.

00:06:50Novacek in motion.

00:06:52The time has passed.

00:06:53Up the middle is overthrown.

00:06:55Price was the intended receiver,

00:06:56and Randy, he was wide open in Colt territory.

00:07:00I don't know if the Colts bothered to read the flip card.

00:07:03You get the lineups,

00:07:04and you get the starting lineups and the rosters.

00:07:06They didn't have 89 in their game plan,

00:07:08because watch the middle of the field.

00:07:10Look at Price.

00:07:12Absolutely wide open.

00:07:13You saw Koryat and Bickett in the middle

00:07:15sort of look at each other with a...

00:07:17That wasn't relief.

00:07:18That was near panic before that ball went over his head.

00:07:21So John Jett, the rookie punter,

00:07:23and there is Clarence Burdan, the veteran,

00:07:26two-time Pro Bowl specialist,

00:07:28back to receive for the Colts.

00:07:31A low kick,

00:07:33and Burdan on the run at the 25-yard line.

00:07:36A penalty marker is down,

00:07:37and Burdan is stopped almost in his tracks

00:07:40after a three-yard return.

00:07:42Making the play was Brock Marion,

00:07:44but there is a flag down,

00:07:45and we'll hear from Gordon McCarter,

00:07:47our referee today.

00:07:48I was dropped right in the area

00:07:50of the illegal receiver downfield.

00:07:52Illegal man, yep.

00:07:55I think if you're the Colts,

00:07:57you decline this penalty,

00:08:33It's not a guy that's only played

00:08:35eight or nine years in the league.

00:08:36I mean, Montana's a wily veteran.

00:08:38Bill Sims is a wily veteran.

00:08:40Jack Trudeau has been a recipient

00:08:42of a lot of hits,

00:08:43and he's got a chance to win

00:08:44some ballgames here,

00:08:45but he's got a great attitude.

00:08:46He knows if Jeff George

00:08:47is completely healthy,

00:08:48and that wrist wasn't hurt,

00:08:49he wouldn't be starting.

00:08:51Sean Dawkins, the rookie from Pal,

00:08:53is in there as a third-wide receiver

00:11:56Then you're trying

00:11:57to utilize strength

00:11:58where the Colts have an edge

00:11:59on this defensive front seven.

00:12:00Colts are doing

00:12:01what the Cowboys

00:12:02wanted to do,

00:12:03spread the defense

00:12:04and hand the ball

00:12:05off to Smith

00:12:06while he pats the man.

00:12:07And there he is again
