00:00Super Bowl baby, you can play college, okay?
00:13Don't you forget.
00:15Come on.
00:17Don't forget what happened last year.
00:18All day long.
00:19Don't forget what happened last year.
00:20All day long.
00:21Let's hit, stick and bust it.
00:23Here we are, faced with an opportunity to win a third Super Bowl in four years.
00:48Something that's never been done before.
00:50And that's the motivating thing for me.
00:55You can't make history losing.
00:57But you can make history winning.
00:59And we want the glory.
01:01We want it all.
01:02We greedy.
01:03We selfish.
01:04We want it all.
01:05Going for the bomb again for Michael Irvin in the corner of the end zone.
01:08He bobbles the ball.
01:09What a catch.
01:10Oh, man.
01:12Pass over the middle.
01:13Caught by Deion Sanders.
01:14Sanders doing the dance all the way down the field.
01:16He's hard to keep up with.
01:26There's no way in the world that they're going to let this little bit of glory slip out.
01:31And I'm going to tell you, I'm going to be right there.
01:33Because this is a chance for me to get five Super Bowl games.
01:37They want me in a hill of beans, man, if we don't win the Super Bowl.
01:41When you get to the final game of the season and win it, hopefully win it,
01:44it makes all your personal goals worthwhile.
01:48Hand off Emmitt Smith at the 15 to the 10.
01:50He'll score.
01:51Emmitt Smith dances to the end zone.
01:53And Dallas, your team, is about to return to a Super Bowl.
02:05We going home.
02:11Aikman to pass on first and goal from the three.
02:13Wide open.
02:14Jay Novacek.
02:15Touchdown.
02:20Here's a pass in the flat.
02:22Kicked off by the Cowboys.
02:23Larry Brown may score at the 30, 20, 10.
02:26Out of bounds at the six-yard line.
02:29The Cowboys need one more play to win their fifth Super Bowl.
02:33Hand off Emmitt Smith on the right-hand side.
02:35Touchdown.
02:36Emmitt Smith scores.
02:37And Dallas, you can celebrate because your Cowboys are world champions again.

02:53β™ͺβ™ͺβ™ͺ
03:03β™ͺβ™ͺβ™ͺ
03:11Back to throw again is Aikman.
03:12Some pressure.
03:13Gets the pass away.
03:14Eric Davis picks it off.
03:15He's got a line down the left side.
03:1720, 10, 5.
03:19Touchdown, 49ers.
03:21β™ͺβ™ͺβ™ͺ
03:24Back to throw.
03:25Rice is out there.
03:26Touchdown, 49ers.
03:28We were in the conference championship game,
03:30and I wish we'd played our best game of the year instead of our worst game of the year
03:33and not get self-destructed like we had.
03:36But we were a good football team, and we'll be a good football team next year
03:39because of our core talent base that we have.
03:44We will be playing with new faces.
03:46There is a transition.
03:48There is a change.
03:50But it sweeps all NFL.
03:54There are 26 players that were not on the Cowboy roster two years ago.
03:59It will be a different football team in 95.
04:03We would have liked to, over the last two years, kept every free agent we've lost.
04:07But the good news is we've had people step up there.
04:10But the people that are our heart, the people that have the work ethic,
04:13the people that we look to to make the big plays, we're going to continue to build around them.
04:18Let's go, team.
04:21The spark plug of the 1995 Cowboys Super Bowl machine was Emmitt Smith
04:26as he emphatically reminded a national TV audience on opening night at the Jersey Meadowlands.
04:32If there were any concerns about Emmitt's hamstring problems of 94,
04:36they were quickly dispelled the very first time he touched the ball.
04:41He's going to score. Touchdown, Cowboys.
04:44A 60-yard ramble by Emmitt Smith. Is he back? I would say so.
04:49Smith clocked in with 163 yards while tying a club record with four touchdowns.
04:56Meanwhile, the Dallas defense posted its first shutout since 1992.
05:02But their New York counterparts had no answer for Michael Irvin,
05:06who torched the Giants for over 100 yards and his first score of the season.
05:12Dallas made it all look easy in what proved to be its most decisive win of 1995.
05:18The following week in their home opener, the Cowboys were more severely tested
05:22by the visiting Denver Broncos.
05:26Let's go, boys. Let's go, boys.
05:29One, two, three. One, two, three.
05:32There's nobody going to beat us on our ground.
05:35Denver put the ball in the end zone three times,
05:38but that still wasn't enough to offset the precise passing of quarterback Troy Aikman,
05:43who also punched in his first and only rushing touchdown of the season.
05:49Foot leg to the right. Still running. Cuts it up at the five.
05:53Oh! Oh, my God!
05:55Degree of difficulty you wouldn't believe.
05:58We ain't giving up nothing. We ain't giving up nothing.
06:02We ain't giving up nothing. We ain't giving up nothing.
06:05The Dallas defense was led by number 94 Charles Haley, who sacked John Elway twice.
06:14And when Elway himself wasn't sent in reverse, his passes were.
06:19Elway, short drop, pass thrown, blocked by Henning, intercepted by the Cowboys.
06:23At the 20, down to the 10, down to the 7, Larry Brown on the tip drill.
06:28The Cowboys' on-field performance and off-field dealings
06:32only added to their fans' lofty expectations for 1995.
06:38All the way to Super Bowl Dallas!
06:47Indeed, Dallas finally did have Deion Sanders signing him to the NFL's most generous contract.
06:54I haven't been listening to anything on television, nothing at all.
06:57I sit in the hotel room. Who else comes on TV but Jerry?
07:01Jerry said, Deion, if you're out there, I said, yeah, Jerry.
07:07Dallas is the place for you, and that was the first time I really seen in his eyes that he was really sincere
07:14and this could be a beautiful relationship, and that's when I made my decision.
07:18I want to be a Dallas Cowboy.
07:20Arthroscopic surgery would sideline Sanders until late October,
07:24but his new teammates created some prime-time excitement of their own against Minnesota.
07:29Can't feel any slack, any pressure, baby.
07:33It's disrespecting our air.
07:35Let's go out all ready. We ain't kicking the ball off.
07:37Dallas is not to piss anybody off.
07:39Let's put the ass in their own house and take it back to Dallas where we can enjoy it.
07:47Straight back to pass and time.
07:49Throws for Irvin in the end zone. Touchdown, Cowboys!
07:52After Dallas scored first, the defense created problems for the Viking coaching staff.
07:57We're not blocking them. I know what you're saying, Brian,
08:00but the last three runs have gotten less than a yard.
08:19Smith behind Johnson with Novacek in motion to give to Emmitt.
08:22Smith backs and slides.
08:24The Cowboys forged ahead 17-10
08:27when Jay Novacek scored the first two-point conversion in team history.
08:31The lead seemed safe with only seconds to play, but it wasn't.
08:35We coming to get you!
08:37Let's go, baby. Keep it up. Keep it up.
08:3933 seconds, all we have left.
08:41Back goes Boone, fires to Chris Carter.
08:43Touchdown!
08:45Diving in the end zone, Chris Carter against Clayton Hull.
08:48I can't believe it.
08:54Check me out, baby.
08:57Just keep fighting. No big plays. Just keep fighting, baby.
09:00We'll win this thing.
09:02In overtime, Dallas won the toss.
09:04Then Troy Aikman navigated through the Viking defense with two crucial completions.
09:12On the fifth play of the series, Aikman turned the keys over to Emmitt Smith,
09:16who promptly drove right to the winner's circle.
09:19Left tackle running, we're in 30.
09:21He may score to the 20, to the 10, to the 5.
09:24Touchdown, Dallas. This game is over.
09:27The Cowboys have won it.
09:29A 31-yard run by Emmitt Smith in overtime,
09:32and Dallas wins in a thrilling come-from-behind fashion here in the Metrodome tonight.
09:39Touchdown!
09:49Barry Switzer was still smiling a week later
09:51when Buddy Ryan's Cardinals came calling to Texas Stadium.
09:55Arizona's defense never did quite figure out a way
09:58to stop the Cowboy triumvirate of Aikman, Irvin, and Emmitt
10:03as Dallas rolled to its fourth straight win.
10:07Touchdown, Cowboys!
10:10A lot of backs have played this game a lot of years
10:13who would like to have had a year like Emmitt's had in September.
10:19Smith was just as deadly in the air,
10:21posting his season high in reception yardage.
10:24And when Emmitt finally got a breather,
10:26his understudy Sherman Williams virtually covered the earth
10:30with the first touchdown of his NFL career.
10:35Quick count for Aikman, handoff Williams.
10:37He gets the first down, 35-30.
10:39To the 20, to the 15, to the 10, to the 5.
10:42Touchdown, Sherman Williams!
10:44Next, Dallas tried to muscle in on Washington.
10:48That's what the Redskins are going to do right there to the Cowboys, right there.
10:50Power! The power! The power!
10:53The power to the moon zone.
10:55I can't compete with that.
10:58That's right.
11:00Shocked the world day today, baby. Shocked the world day.
11:03The Redskins indeed had some surprises for their guests,
11:07but the Cowboys were also victimized by a run of bad luck.
11:113-3. Lobs it over the middle. Incomplete.
11:14Intended for Daryl Johnston, and Aikman looks like he's hurt.
11:17Looks like he might have hurt his knee or ankle.
11:20He's shaken up. He's having some trouble.
11:22He's standing up, but they're going to have to come get him.
11:26A calf strain sent Aikman to the sidelines,
11:29but the Cowboy defense seemed ready to step up in his absence.
11:33Kept it by Woodson. 35-30. 25-20.
11:35Down to the 15, to the 10.
11:37Daryl Woodson to the 5. Touchdown, the Cowboys!
11:42Woodson's score put Dallas ahead,
11:44but it would be their last lead of the afternoon.
11:48To Mitchell, to Logan. Touchdown, Washington Redskins!
11:54The Redskins have done it. Upset the Cowboys at RFK.
11:59Few team observers felt Aikman could even walk to the team bus,
12:03let alone start the following week at home against Green Bay.
12:07Much to the Packers' dismay, number eight was in uniform
12:11and in the lineup the entire afternoon.
12:18Aikman shredded the Packer defense for over 300 yards
12:22and a pair of scores to Jay Novacek and Michael Irvin,
12:26as Dallas raced to a 21-point advantage.
12:29Now at the 48-yard line in Green Bay territory,
12:32deep drop for Aikman, steps up, going for the bomb.
12:35Michael Irvin, wide open. Touchdown, Cowboys!
12:38Oh, what a play! Yeah!
12:41Green Bay couldn't stop Aikman in the first half
12:44and couldn't contain Emmitt Smith in the second,
12:47as number 22 scored his 11th touchdown of the young season
12:51to put the game out of reach.
13:02Next up for the Cowboys was an all-expenses-paid weekend
13:06in San Diego against the defending AFC champion Chargers.
13:12Da-da-da-da-da-da!
13:15Da-da-da-da-da-da!
13:17Cowboys are headed for a major wipeout!
13:20From San Diego's Jack Murphy Stadium on a beautiful Sunday,
13:24the Chargers are coming off the road.
13:27America's team is in town.
13:29Troy, Emmitt, Michael, the Dallas Cowboys are here to meet the Bulls.
13:34It was a meeting the Chargers probably wished they had never attended.
13:40Tony Martin got flashed. Gilbert to throw.
13:43Here comes the blitzing. It's safe. The ball is knocked loose.
13:46Hunt football. I think they're going to save the Cowboys favorite.
13:49He covered it in the 49-yard line.
13:52Cowboys! Cowboys! Cowboys!
13:55The Cowboys' first scoring drive followed a script
13:58that had become painfully familiar to their opponents.
14:01Troy Aikman to Michael Irvin,
14:03setting up an Emmitt Smith touchdown plunge.
14:07Cowboys! Yeah! Yeah!
14:10Then the Cowboys altered their cast of characters,
14:13but wide-out Kevin Williams and fullback Daryl Johnston got the same results.
14:22Hand-off Johnston. He just walks into the end zone.
14:25There's a moose scoring a touchdown.
14:28The fierce pass rush led by Antonio Tolbert
14:32The fierce pass rush led by Antonio Tolbert tallied six sacks
14:36and four Dallas takeaways.
14:40Hey, get Tolbert, guys. That's the hero right here.
14:45Say hi to little Tolbert.
14:51That quarterback got a long day.
14:53Four interceptions. I don't know how many sacks.
14:57I need to go and soak it in the ocean or something.
15:01A healthy Deion Sanders made his first appearance of 95
15:06against some former teammates.
15:08That's my Deion hooker.
15:14All right, Deion, it's all you now, baby.
15:16It's all you, 2-1.
15:18Primetime wasted little time letting the Falcons know
15:22Primetime wasted little time letting the Falcons know
15:25he was back in town and more than ready to defend his turf.
15:34Third down and goal. George with all day to throw.
15:36Airs it out in the end zone. Knocked down by Deion Sanders.
15:39Intended for Bert Emanuel.
15:42Sanders got most of the attention,
15:44but was more than happy to share the glory
15:47with another cowboy cult figure, Daryl Moose Johnston.
15:53Johnston to the five.
15:56Daryl Johnston, an eight-yard run.
15:59Also itching for a spot at center stage was Michael Irvin.
16:03I got to go deep.
16:08Here's a deep drop for Aikman. First in.
16:10Going way down the field for Michael Irvin.
16:12Bumping and grinding at the five.
16:14He's got it.
16:15Touchdown, Cowboys. No flag.
16:19The game was all but over when Deion made a long-distance attempt
16:23to give the Cowboys an extra dividend on their investment.
16:27Goes right to Deion Sanders at the five.
16:30He bobbles the ball. Incomplete.
16:35I didn't think I could out-throw Primetime.
16:39He's lost his feet.
16:42But he was so wide open.
16:44That's the way he was last time, too.
16:48Naturally, Deion's debut became a hot topic of post-game conversation.
16:53Cowboys are selfish, man. Why they try to beat people by big margins?
16:56Had them down and took Deion deep anyway.
17:04Primetime's next opportunity came where else?
17:08In Primetime, during his Texas Stadium debut on Monday Night Football.
17:13Sanders showed a nationwide audience that, yes, he could tackle.
17:18And he had a few other tricks up his sleeve the Eagles weren't expecting.
17:24And reverse to Deion Sanders.
17:26At the 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40.
17:29Sanders to the 45, 50. Gets a blocker.
17:31Somehow, Deion Sanders snuck on the field.
17:34The only player more anxious to touch the ball was Emmitt Smith,
17:38who always seems to save his best performances for the Eagles.
17:42Hand-off, Emmitt Smith. Up the middle.
17:44Up the middle. 35, 30. One tackle to break it up.
17:4725, 20. Right to the end zone, to the 10, to the 5. Touchdown, Cowboys!
17:53Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin gave the crowd even more to cheer about
17:56with their customary scoring hookup.
17:59And so did cornerback Larry Brown, who had never notched an NFL touchdown
18:04until Philadelphia unintentionally ended the drought.
18:09Big rush. Goes to the flag. Intercepted by Larry Brown.
18:13He'll score from the 20-yard line. Touchdown, Dallas!
18:16The Cowboys were thriving under all the media attention.
18:19Actually, they had no other choice.
18:22We got radio, we got TV, we got the beat writer.
18:26I mean, you got like 50,000 different opinions,
18:29where in the average town you only got about 10.
18:31Now we get all this thrown in on top of ESPN and everybody else.
18:37We don't know which way we're going.
18:39There always seems to be other things going on around the outside.
18:42This year in particular, though, I think there definitely was a lot more.
18:47The signing of Dion, the things with Nike and American Express,
18:51the lawsuit against us, the counter suit by us against the NFL.
18:55You know, I think the players and everybody within the organization
18:58did a very good job of staying focused.
19:00We felt we had something to prove coming out this season.
19:04There's such a thing as creating some negative vibes at times,
19:08you know, when the expectations are so high.
19:11But at the same time, our team is used to those kind of distractions.
19:16In fact, when they don't have any distractions,
19:19it's probably a distraction to them.
19:22The media glare was especially bright for the Cowboys'
19:25midseason showdown with their most hated rival.
19:28One, two, three.
19:33Gerbach the throw. Over the middle and it's caught.
19:36Here's Wright. He's off and running. He's in the 40.
19:39They can't catch him. He'll beat them all.
19:42Touchdown, 49ers!
19:45The quick strike was a body blow from which Dallas simply could not recover.
19:51Quick slam in. Ball is caught and fumbled.
19:5449ers pick it up, bringing it back.
19:56He's going to go. He'll go in. Touchdown, 49ers again.
20:00Unbelievable.
20:02Are we in San Francisco again now?
20:04Have we not seen this before?
20:05Flashback from last year.
20:07The Cowboys were stunned but had little time to lick their wounds.
20:11Ahead laid two games in ten days against the best teams in the AFC.
20:16America's team, Raiders!
20:18Raiders! Raiders! Raiders!
20:21America's team, Raiders!
20:23He's going to take him down. He's going down.
20:28Let's make some plays. We need them this weekend.
20:32Play action. It's going to be the bomb.
20:34It's a 45. It's intercepted by Deion Sanders.
20:37At the 40-yard line, he waves the ball in the air.
20:40I've got it, boys. Turn around. Let's go the other way.
20:43Deion holds the ball like Babe Ruth pointing to the Ospiel fence.
20:48Sanders then turned matters over to Michael Irvin.
20:51And number 88 ripped the Raiders' secondary to shreds.
20:55First down from the 17. Deep drop. Throws. Michael Irvin. Wide open.
20:59Touchdown, Cowboys. Oh, man, was he wide open.
21:03You know, now I'll tell you, it's no doubt about my heart.
21:06I'm going up every percent.
21:08Oakland stayed in single coverage against Irvin and paid dearly.
21:12But the Cowboys' cash register was Emmitt Smith,
21:16who rang up three touchdowns in one of the most pivotal victories of the season.
21:37Four days later, the Cowboys were rude Thanksgiving hosts for the visiting Chiefs.
21:43Let's play with poise. Let's play one play at a time.
21:47Every play won't go our way. Let's play with poise.
21:56First down at the Kansas City 15. Hand off Emmitt Smith again.
21:5915 big holes. It's Kemp to the 5. He scores.
22:02Emmitt Smith. Touchdown, Cowboys. And all at home.
22:05You found the 88. You found the 88. You found the 88, baby. Let's go.
22:11Aikman on third and 13. Going for the bomb again for Michael Irvin in the corner of the end zone.
22:15He bobbles the ball. Oh, what a catch. Oh, man.
22:19Dale Carter was there. The ball was there. And Michael Irvin stayed with it.
22:24Now let's keep our poise. Let's keep our poise.
22:28One play at a time. We've got a lot of football left. Let's call it done.
22:32Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on.
22:35Second down and eight. Pass over the middle wide open.
22:38Novacek 25-20. He races to the end zone. Oh, look at that.
22:41He scores. Jay Novacek hurdles a player at the 15 and goes 33 yards for the touchdown.
22:49Kansas City tried to stage a comeback, but the Dallas defense had other ideas.
22:56Bootleg to the right. Oh, boom. Oh, no.
22:58That was a fumble. Fumble picked up by Darren Smith at the 40 to the 50.
23:03It's a race to the end zone with the very giving team.
23:06To the 30. Down to the 20. It's Darren Smith. Down to the 13. Down to the 5.
23:14Having disposed of the AFC's elite, the Cowboys turned their attention to a rematch with the Redskins.
23:20Emmitt Smith showed warm love for former teammate James Washington when he ran into him before the game.
23:28But it turned into tough love when he ran over him a few minutes later.
23:33He smacked into James Washington and carried J.W. Bright into the end zone.
23:41But the Redskins continued their winning ways against the Cowboys, sweeping the season series for the first time since 1987.
23:50The footsteps heard off in the distance belonged to the Philadelphia Eagles, who were closing the gap in the division race.
23:57Entering brutally cold Veterans Stadium to an equally chilly reception,
24:02the Cowboys were about to play in one of the most controversial games in franchise history.
24:09Let's get some respect, man.
24:11We have no respect for our running game, fellas.
24:14They say that we have to take away our receivers. Well, f**k them. Let's just keep doing what we're doing.
24:19Led by Larry Allen's crushing block, the Cowboys took early control on the line of scrimmage.
24:25To the 5. Pushes to the end zone. Touchdown, Cowboys.
24:29Oh, great run.
24:30Daryl Johnston showed the way.
24:35Emmitt bounces outside like he did twice against Oakland and scored, pushing Taylor Emmitt.
24:42Ah, this is an amazing run by Emmitt.
24:44We better run it all day.
24:54They starting to say we can't run the damn football.
24:57They want a line set made up in that second there.
24:59We'll run on them all day.
25:01All day. All day.
25:03All night. Let's go, baby. Keep it going.
25:06Second and seven. Here comes the Cowboys on a blitz.
25:08Throw to sideline. Intercepted by Larry Brown. He may score 40.
25:1145-50. 45-40. He will score.
25:14This is a touchdown. Larry Brown has his second TV of the year.
25:18Touchdown, Dallas, on the interception by Larry Brown.
25:23But the quick lead evaporated as the Eagles tied the game at 17 late in the final period.
25:29Deep in his own territory, Barry Switzer gambled on four runs.
25:34And Barry Switzer gambled on fourth and short in hopes of keeping possession.
25:39Here's your ball game. Barry Switzer makes the call.
25:43Eagles completely stop the Cowboys here. They give it to Smith. He doesn't make it.
25:48They stop him. The Eagles take over on bounds. The Eagles take over.
25:52Dallas lost, and critics nationwide angrily called for the head of the beleaguered Cowboy coach.
25:59After the Philadelphia game, I think the criticism got to its peak level during the course of the season.
26:05One of the first things he did was address the team in the meeting on Monday
26:08and told us that he had had to deal with adversity throughout his life
26:12and gave us some indications of things that had happened during his personal life
26:16that I myself was not aware of and I'm sure some of the other players.
26:19He said that those were much more difficult to overcome than what he was going to have to face here.
26:24And because of that, he had kind of built up a rough exterior.
26:28He took a lot of criticism. I mean, stuff that he probably didn't have nothing to do with,
26:33he still had to feel it and be kind of touching.
26:37You know, say, hey, this man out trying to do a job and not giving a fair chance.
26:42It's going to be hard for him. I don't care who you are.
26:44You know, when there's change, there's always resistance to change.
26:47And finally, the last thing is acceptance.
26:49And when you go through a spectrum of emotions, that's the final emotion you have to deal with.
26:53That finally is acceptance. I'm here.
26:56And that's what Jerry wants, what I want, that's what it's going to be.
27:02The players quickly closed ranks behind Switzer.
27:06But their on-field performance was not nearly as steadfast as the allegiance shown to their coach.
27:14Against the lowly Giants, Dallas trailed for most of the day
27:18Only a record-tying five field goals from Chris Bonio saved the Cowboys.
27:23His last kick, the game-winner, came with only one second left on the clock.
27:38The losing streak was finally over, but the Cowboys remained a troubled team.
27:44The intensity was there, but it wasn't as high as it was at the beginning of the season.
27:50And it's hard to keep that intensity up week after week after week.
27:53But it's expected of us, and we expect it of ourselves.
27:57I think our guys had gotten to the point where they had just about had enough of the
28:02they're done, they're finished, you know, they're not the Cowboys of old.
28:06There's no Cowboy Mystique anymore.
28:08We should feel like there's no Cowboy Mystique.
28:11We ought to just line up and play our game of football the way we know how to play it.
28:17On Christmas night in the Arizona desert, Dallas resurrected the season with its best performance since opening day.
28:24Losses by the Eagles and 49ers meant that the Cowboys could clinch the division crown
28:30and play off home-field advantage with a victory.
28:33And it would be supporting player Kevin Williams taking the leading man's role.
28:38With nine catches for over 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
28:44Here's a pass to Kevin Williams to clean at the 15, turns a curl at the 10, to the 5, touchdown Cowboys!
28:54Aikman drops wide open, down the middle, thrown, caught, Kevin Williams.
29:0025, 20, 15, 10, 5, he's caught from behind, he grabs himself and pushes himself into the end zone.
29:07Boy, that's a great effort by Kevin Williams.
29:12The Dallas defense, healthier than it had been in weeks, shifted into high gear.
29:17Aggressively hounding the Cardinals into three sacks and as many turnovers.
29:22Blowing the game wide open well before halftime.
29:27Here's a pass, picked off by Brock Berrien at the 30, 25, 20, 15, 10, 5, touchdown Cowboys!
29:33Now only one issue still remained unresolved, a record score for Emmitt Smith.
29:40Hand off Emmitt Smith at the 5, up to the 3, to the 1, touchdown Emmitt Smith, yellow record.
29:47The 25th rushing touchdown of the year for Emmitt Smith.
29:53Just weeks before, Dallas had been left for dead.
29:56Now they were the Super Bowl favorite.
29:58In little more than a month, the Cowboys would return to this same stadium and prove they were indeed the very best team in the NFL.
30:09What a game expected this afternoon.
30:11The Eagles, who beat the Cowboys at the vet, beat them dramatically up against a tremendous challenge.
30:17Down with the Eagles! Yeah!
30:20Dominate! Dominate! Dominate! Dominate! Dominate!
30:26It's all now! It's a house! We're going to take it away from them!
30:30We're going to bring them down! We're going to bring them down!
30:33Bring them down on three! One, two, three!
30:38It was the Eagles and not the Cowboys who fell, as the Dallas defense stuffed the run, limiting Philadelphia to a miserly 74 yards.
30:49Once the legs were chopped off, the body was sure to follow.
30:54The Cowboys sent quarterback Rodney Peet packing from the pocket, where he became an inviting target.
31:03With one jarring open field hit, safety Darren Woodson knocked Peet out of the game, all but classifying the Eagle offense D-O-A.
31:13Using number 54, Kurt Covea, the Eagles tried to blitz Troy Aikman, who coolly avoided the rush.
31:25With prime receiver Michael Irvin taken away by coverage, Aikman directed his focus toward Kevin Williams,
31:32who responded with six catches for the touchdown.
31:35With Michael Irvin taken away by coverage, Aikman directed his focus toward Kevin Williams, who responded with six catches for 124 yards.
31:51The Cowboys' ultimate, but not-so-secret weapon was launched early in the second quarter.
31:57Here's a reverse to Deion Sanders, cuts up field at the 25, now reverses direction, finds a blocker at the 20!
32:03To the right, to the 10, to the 5, touchdown Deion Sanders!
32:08Sanders sparkled as he read the offensive script, then totally re-rolled it.
32:14Started left, was stopped, went to the right and ran all 21 yards.
32:18Boy, that's only Deion Sanders who can get that one in.
32:26Here he goes, here he goes! Deion Sanders scores on the offense, the Sanders shuffle in the end zone.
32:42Deception had broken the ice, now sheer Cowboy muscle would brutally overpower the Eagles.
32:49Merrill Johnston, in motion, handoff Emmitt Smith, he dives to the pile and scores, and Emmitt Smith is in the end zone to give the Cowboys a 16-3 lead.
33:03Randall Cunningham replaced Pete, and Barry Switzer sent his pass rushers at the ill-prepared quarterback from every angle.
33:20Cunningham, who was sacked four times, had missed several practices witnessing the birth of his first child, and while that delivery was successful, most of the others were not.
33:33The Eagles had finally hit the wall, a wall made up of Cowboy All-Pros who capped the route with one last brilliant moment.
33:54Pump fake, lob to the end zone for Michael Herman, caught, touchdown Cowboys!
33:59Oh man, that's good stuff! Really good stuff! Touchdown!
34:05By crushing the Eagles, the Cowboys reached the NFC Championship for the fourth straight year, but for the first time this decade, it would be played against Green Bay and not the 49ers.
34:24We got one more game, and we hope that we can play our best game. I mean, everybody was focused, we had a good week of practice, everything was solid. You know, we was looking good, smelling good, feeling good, so everything went good.
34:37Luckily, I don't think anybody really got injured because of this game. Everybody's still pretty fresh, I believe, and hopefully Green Bay is just a little tired.
34:50From Texas Stadium, deep in the heart of the most of our state, ladies and gentlemen, let's get ready to rumble!
35:09Let's go, guys! Let's go! Let's get it on!
35:13With the Playmaker and primetime leading the cheers, Texas Stadium was roaring with noise that could wake the dead.
35:23We don't kick some tape!
35:24It's nothing now. Personal battles, right? It's like a quarterfinish. Knock the seven, get off, make tackles, play ball. That's all, that's all.
35:31Let's hit people! Let's hit people!
35:34After holding the Packers to an early field goal, the bright lights of Dallas flashed neon.
35:42Pass over the middle, caught by Deion Sanders, 40, 35, 30, 25, down to the 20, still running, 15, to the 10, out of bounds at the nine-yard line.
35:51Sanders doing the dance all the way down the field. He's hard to keep up with.
35:55And it was hard to defend against a team loaded with big-name, big-game players, who continually come through when they are needed the most.
36:03Michael Irvin!
36:14Barb on the screen, throws, intercepted by Leon Leonard, the 11-yard line, and the Cowboys have the ball, the big catch.
36:20We're rolling, baby! We're rolling!
36:22Are we rolling?
36:23We're rolling!
36:24How bad are we rolling?
36:25We're rolling!
36:26We're rolling!
36:27Brett Barb's got to settle down. He's just making some terrible throws right now.
36:30settle down, he's just making some terrible throws right now.
36:32Come on, old positive yards now, we need the six, we need the six.
36:36β™ͺβ™ͺ
36:42Close to Michael Irvin, caught by Michael Irvin,
36:44touchdown Michael Irvin.
36:46The Cowboys have taken a 13-3 lead.
36:50β™ͺβ™ͺ
36:55Green Bay absorbed the early punches,
36:58then responded with two long touchdowns
37:01to climb back in the game.
37:02β™ͺβ™ͺ
37:05Keith Jackson, touchdown, and a bullet down the middle,
37:09and the Packers have come back to lead the ballgame.
37:12There's always a spark in the eyes of the Great Ones,
37:16and with the Cowboys pinned on their own one-yard line,
37:19Emmitt Smith showed why he is pro football's
37:22best big-game running back.
37:24β™ͺβ™ͺ
37:34The drive was vintage Cowboy offense,
37:36powered by the talented Dallas Trinity
37:39of Smith, Aikman, and Irvin.
37:42β™ͺβ™ͺ
37:51On second and goal,
37:52Dallas finished off their 99-yard masterpiece.
37:57And off Smith again, blocking again,
38:00and Emmitt scores this time,
38:02and the Cowboys have taken the lead
38:04with the Emmitt Smith touchdown,
38:05with 24 seconds remaining in the first half.
38:09But by the end of the third period,
38:11the Cowboys trailed by three.
38:13Yet while the visitors held the edge on the scoreboard,
38:16they were losing ground in the trenches.
38:19The Packer defenders were fading fast,
38:22pounded by the Cowboys' talented offensive line,
38:25and conned up by Jay Novacek,
38:28who ran through and over the Green Bay second base.
38:33Jack left, Iso left.
38:36Translated to English, it means touchdown.
38:39Hand off Emmitt Smith to the five,
38:41to the end zone, touchdown, Cowboys.
38:43Oh, look at that hole.
38:44They went on the left side that time.
38:46Eric Williams, Larry Allen, and Mark Touanet
38:49all held their blocks.
38:51Nate Newton rolled off a combination block
38:53to pick up one linebacker,
38:55while fullback Daryl Johnston nailed another.
39:01And the Cowboys are back in front again.
39:05My goodness, what a hole was opened up.
39:09Nothing more than precise timing and teamwork.
39:12After all, it was the fourth quarter,
39:14the business end of the football game,
39:17and that's when the Cowboys did their best work.
39:20In the knockout punch.
39:22Time for the knockout punch, huh?
39:23Time for the knockout punch.
39:28Rolled to the right for Favre.
39:29He sets up, pump fake.
39:30Now goes way down the field, intercepted by the Cowboys.
39:34Larry Brown to the 30, 40, 45, 50.
39:37Well, this is a strange decision by Brett Favre,
39:41and he kind of flies it back to the old Brett Favre.
39:44When he gets out of the pocket,
39:45that's what the Cowboys were concerned about,
39:47and then he just telegraphed it.
39:49I mean, there wasn't any doubt where that ball was going.
39:53Salads will have the ball at midfield,
39:55and that is a big hurt right there.
39:58Nail in the coffin.
40:00Nail in the coffin.
40:02We'll see if it's the play of the game.
40:04And Aikman first down for the Cowboy 47,
40:06going for a punch to Michael Irvin.
40:08They're dancing. Irvin catches the ball to 25,
40:10to the 20, to the 15, and out of bounds.
40:12One more score, baby. One more score.
40:15Yeah!
40:19Cowboys are in the running formation
40:21with Kendall Watkins in motion, out of the eye.
40:23Handoff Emmitt Smith at the 15, to the 10.
40:25He'll score. Emmitt Smith dances to the end zone.
40:28The Cowboys have taken a two-score lead.
40:32Boy, the Cowboys just stick it at him.
40:35They just stick it at him
40:36after the Larry Brown interception.
40:39Two minutes, baby. We're there. Two minutes.
40:43In the final moments,
40:45Brett Favre collapsed under a sea of sacks,
40:48three in a row.
40:49β™ͺβ™ͺβ™ͺ
40:58Green Bay's season was over,
41:00but not that of the Super Bowl-bound Cowboys.
41:03We're going again. We're going again, baby.
41:07Let's go. Let's go.
41:12You said it the best, Terry. They're not mine.
41:15If we get three, they're this team.
41:16They're Aikman's and Emmitt's and Quinton's.
41:19That's Aikman and the Super Bowl.
41:21Perhaps the conference title was cherished most by Barry Switzer,
41:26who saluted his players for both their hard work
41:29and their loyalty.
41:31Y'all are a beautiful, beautiful football team.
41:33Let's go. Y'all are tremendous,
41:36and I really appreciate some of the things
41:38that you guys said to me personally.
41:40Some of you players are in the ballgame.
41:42It really means a lot to me. It really does,
41:44and I want to thank our coaching staff.
41:46I want to thank these guys that we have to put up with
41:50and all the people outside.
41:52Hey, they're loyal.
41:54They stuck with me and fought their rear ends off,
41:56and I believe in them, and they believe in me.
41:58That's right. That's right.
42:00Hold on. Hold on.
42:02I got something to say, baby. Go ahead. You got it, baby.
42:03I ain't said nothing all year.
42:06Y'all know, man, I went last year.
42:09It ain't the same. That's right.
42:11Y'all dudes are unbelievable, man,
42:12the way y'all have accepted me and embraced me,
42:14let me be me.
42:16This team is unbelievable, man.
42:17Ain't no jealousy, ain't no envy from nobody.
42:19How do you like that?
42:31Dallas! Dallas! Dallas!
42:35Dallas! Dallas!
42:37Here we go, Steelers! Here we go!
42:41Here we go, Steelers! Here we go!
42:43In a battle of four-time Super Bowl champions,
42:46the Steelers charged into Super Bowl XXX
42:49hoping to recapture past glory,
42:52while the Cowboys looked to make history
42:54with their third Super Bowl title in four seasons.
43:00With Dallas' cast of stars taking center stage,
43:04this would surpass all other Super Bowls
43:07as the most-watched event in television history.
43:14Let's go, baby!
43:17We've come too far. We've overcome too much.
43:20Remember what we say, toys, 60 minutes, and physical.
43:26Hey, it's been a long time coming,
43:28but we finally here.
43:30Let's go out here and play a complete game.
43:32Let's go from the Alpha to the Omega.
43:35Let's go out here, kick these Pittsburgh Steelers' ass
43:38up and down the field, and go home
43:40and enjoy this for a full year.
43:42Hey!
43:48In the opening quarter, the Cowboys' dynamic offense
43:52came out firing with power and precision.
43:58Lineman-like guard Larry Allen
44:00overpowered Greg Lloyd and the Steelers.
44:04Big hole, 50, down the middle of the field,
44:0730, 28-yard line, big run for Emmitt Smith.
44:10That hole was wide open over Nate Newton and Mark Tumine.
44:15Well, the game's starting out just the way
44:17the Cowboys wanted it to, obviously.
44:19They've got the pass to Michael Irvin for big yardage.
44:22They run Emmitt Smith on that left side.
44:24It just pops open.
44:26Greg Lloyd getting murdered right there.
44:28Lloyd and the Steelers looked overmatched and outmanned.
44:33Deion Sanders, wide right. Michael Irvin, wide left.
44:36Aikman straight back to pass in the middle of the Super Bowl 30.
44:38Insignia throws the bomb to Deion Sanders.
44:41And prime time makes a 47-yard prime catch of a Troy Aikman bomb.
44:48Novacek is a flanker right and Johnston in motion.
44:51Fake handoff, Aikman to pass on first and goal from the three.
44:54Wide open, Jay Novacek, touchdown!
44:58And I think the one thing the Steelers didn't want to have happen
45:01has happened, they're down 10-0.
45:03A lot of football left, let's go.
45:05Let's go, a lot of football.
45:08The Cowboys nearly took a 17-0 lead midway through the second quarter.
45:13Throws down the middle to Michael Irvin.
45:15Touchdown, Cowboys! There's a flag on the play.
45:18It is against Dallas.
45:20Grabbed his shirt. He grabbed his shirt.
45:25Michael Irvin did grab Carnell Lake's shirt
45:28and though the Cowboys had to settle for a field goal,
45:31Irvin had no dispute over the call.
45:35I grabbed him. Boom!
45:37He was going for the ball.
45:39I knew, I knew. I came after the ball.
45:41I knew that. You know what I'm saying?
45:43I'm saying a good call. Thank you.
45:44I'm on your side, baby.
45:47With Dallas ahead 13-0, the Steelers' defense finally tightened.
45:52Come on, defense. Let's go, baby. Let's go.
45:55Pittsburgh corralled Emmitt Smith and the Cowboys' running game
45:59as the two defenses began to set a physical tone for the day.
46:05All right. Hey, hey, hey.
46:08Let's go now. Come on.
46:14O'Donnell's getting a lot of pressure
46:16and he's not getting rid of that football to get out of trouble.
46:21O'Donnell and the Steelers were down but not ready to be counted out.
46:25We can still run it now. We got some time.
46:28We just got to get a score here and we'll be in good shape.
46:30With twilight approaching at the end of the half,
46:33the Steelers finally began showing a spark of life.
46:51Bam Morris dancing, skipping, gliding off that right side.
46:55He gives him a little bam-a-ram, a little niftiness does he,
46:59and he takes a nine to the 30 yard line.
47:01Let's go.
47:03Four man rush.
47:04O'Donnell fires for the end zone and the pass is caught.
47:11With the football is Ernie Mills.
47:14That was a sweet catch, wasn't it?
47:16Good.
47:17With 13 seconds left in the half, the Steelers finally got on the ball.
47:21First and goal at the six.
47:22Slant pattern for the goal line.
47:24Touchdown Steelers.
47:26Pulling that ball in is Gatsy Thickpig.
47:29His first playoff touchdown reception and this place is on fire.
47:34We might have something now.
47:36This Super Bowl game is on.
47:39In the second half of Super Bowl XXX,
47:42a quiet Dallas cornerback stepped into a prime time spotlight of his own
47:47and produced the game's first turnover.
47:49Out of the shotgun, O'Donnell on third and nine.
47:51Here come the Cowboys.
47:52He throws downfield intercepted by Larry Brown to the 50, to the 40,
47:56down to the 30.
47:57High steps, still on his feet to the 20 with a helicopter move
48:01and he goes out of bounds.
48:02And the shame of it is O'Donnell threw it right to him.
48:05There was no receiver out there.
48:07And that is a real harmful play to the Steeler cause.
48:12That's how you play, Larry.
48:13That's how you play, baby.
48:15With confidence.
48:16Ball just sailed a little bit.
48:21Smith behind Aikman.
48:22Fake to Smith.
48:23Play action.
48:24Goal to the right.
48:25Fires.
48:26Caught.
48:27Michael Irvin out of bounds.
48:28And what a throw by Aikman on the dead run.
48:30And Dallas is knocking at the door.
48:32Gene Overtick tied in on the left.
48:34Hand off Emmitt Smith.
48:35He gets close to the plane at the goal line.
48:39Touchdown, Cowboys.
48:41Hey, let's go.
48:43A lot of football.
48:44A lot of football.
48:45Let's go.
48:46Here we go, Steelers.
48:47Here we go.
48:49I'd like to hammer it right down him right now.
48:51Right down the face.
48:53Let's go.
48:54Set hut.
48:58Bill Cowher's Steelers did hammer away with Bam Morris, the basher.
49:06And they also mixed things up with Cordell Stewart, the slasher.
49:10Cowher was the youngest head coach in a Super Bowl.
49:13Yet he was wise enough to know that to beat Dallas, he had to take chances.
49:18Well, now we'll see how Bill Cowher decides to play it.
49:22Don't tell me about punting, because we're going to do it.
49:25In motion is Ernie Mills.
49:27Hand off goes to Bam Morris.
49:29He didn't make it.
49:30He did not make it.
49:31No, it's my decision not to punt.
49:35It's all on me.
49:38You can't make a yard and you're down by 13 points.
49:43You don't deserve to win a championship.
49:47Two shots.
49:49Cowher refused to second guess himself.
49:52Is that the right thinking?
49:54I don't know, but that's my thinking.
49:56Instead, he shifted strategy.
49:58Neil O'Donnell threw 32 times in the second half,
50:01but the Cowboys are a team accustomed to protecting a lead and their turf.
50:06Dallas' defense forced Pittsburgh to settle for a field goal.
50:12Good snap, ball down, and Norm's kick is on its way.
50:15That kick has height, it's got distance, and it's got accuracy.
50:2046-yard field goal.
50:22Hey, Dick, I'm going onside here.
50:27I'm going onside.
50:28I'm going onside.
50:29I'm going onside.
50:30I'm going onside.
50:31I'm going onside.
50:32I'm going onside.
50:33I'm going onside.
50:34I'm going onside here.
50:37Don't leave anything in the bag.
50:40Kevin Williamson, Brock Marriott are the two deep,
50:42and the Seahawks try an onside kick.
50:45And they get it.
50:46And a man running with a football at the 50.

53:38Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
53:49What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming
54:00Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight
54:09O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming
54:18And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air
54:28Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there
54:40Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
54:51O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave
