Owain Wyn Evans talks to celebrity reporter Aimee Seddon at BBC Radio 2 in the Park in Preston
Transcript
00:00Hi Owen! Hi, how are we? We're good, you've already done your set haven't you at Radio 2?
00:06Yes, I have, so I did a DJ set, so I was opening the main stage today with a lovely little DJ set
00:13so it was great fun and obviously you know the sun is shining, I always know what the weather is
00:18going to be doing in the North West and in Preston because of course my time doing the weather here
00:23and the crowd were great, it was exactly what I was expecting from the gorgeous people of Preston.
00:28What sort of music did you play? In my DJ set I played a mix of, it was mostly like
00:3480s and 90s and a bit of noughties kind of vibes going on because I was on before Travis so there
00:40was a little buffer between me and Travis so you kind of have to play things as a DJ that
00:45pleases everyone, it's like playing a great wedding disco, I guess that's how I look at it,
00:51so I had a bit of ABBA in there, I got a bit of Gina G in because you've got to have a bit of pop
00:56and some good 90s dance songs as well. And who are you most looking forward to seeing this weekend?
01:01I am, this weekend I'm so excited to see so many of the artists, I mean it's a really great list
01:11this year of artists here at Radio 2 in the Park in Preston, I can't wait to see the Pet Shop Boys
01:15though, I have loved them for so many years and you know their songs are a bit of a soundtrack I
01:23guess to my life and they've just got, they're unapologetic, they're great, I played some of
01:29their songs in my DJ set earlier, really looking forward to seeing what they're going to do.
01:33And obviously all the BBC 2 gang are together, what's that been like?
01:37It's been lovely having the whole BBC Radio 2 gang together because we don't see each other
01:42very often, not all of us, you know if I'm in London I'll see Zoe perhaps who's on after me
01:49or if I'm covering for someone I'll see whoever's around me, but everyone is so busy and obviously
01:53I do the show for Cardiff now so I don't get to see as many of the presenters unless we are in the
02:00same place as each other and it's same for the guys in London, so Radio 2 in the Park is always
02:07a lovely event to do because we get to see everyone and have a bit of a laugh and a good old
02:11catch up. And what do you make of the chosen location Preston? Oh I was so thrilled when I
02:17heard that Radio 2 in the Park was happening here in Preston. The North West, I still have a bit of
02:23my heart in the North West because I spent so many years up here when I worked on North West Tonight
02:28and obviously Preston was in our patch and I've done work on Radio Lancashire and it's just a
02:35really special part of the world so I was absolutely delighted. And perhaps a final
02:40question, why should people in Lancashire tune in to listen to the Park on BBC Sounds or even after
02:46the festival's ended why should they start listening to BBC Radio 2? BBC Radio 2 is such a great station
02:53and when I was offered this job on it you know with my own show it was just kind of, it was like
02:58a dream come true because we play more music, we have great guests, we've got great roster of
03:07presenters as well, myself included now obviously, and it's just a station you can switch on and always
03:13smile to and that's one of the things I absolutely love about it and you know you'll always hear a
03:19song that you know and that you like and with Radio 2 in the Park you'll be able to catch up
03:23on BBC Sounds with the performances that are happening on the main stage and also on iPlay,
03:28we've got great iPlayer content this year because as a radio DJ you know it's all about the hearing,
03:33it's all about the music, we're live on Radio 2 all weekend but you can go back and watch the
03:38performances and so much effort has been put into the staging and the tech this year, it looks
03:44sensational so please do go back and watch the sets on the iPlayer because they look great.
03:50Yeah well I'll leave you there to enjoy the rest of BBC Radio 2 in the Park, we got it right then!
03:57Thank you so much!
