00:00The Coastal Protection Efforts of the Philippine Reclamation Authority
00:05is joined by Javelio Z. Parr, Environmental Management Specialist II of the Philippine Reclamation Authority
00:12and Engineer Albert T. Tayabas, Environmental Specialist A of the Philippine Reclamation Authority.
00:18Good afternoon to you all and welcome to the new Philippines.
00:23Good afternoon.
00:26Good afternoon, ma'am.
00:27Good afternoon.
00:29For Sir Javelio, can you share with us the participation of the Philippine Reclamation Authority
00:38in the International Coastal Cleanup 2024?
00:41What are the other details about this?
00:45The Philippine Reclamation Authority participated in the four municipalities of Cavite.
00:53We counted Ternate in Barangay Bucana, Tanza in Barangay Hulugan Ocho,
01:00Nait in Barangay Bucana Malaki, and Marugondon in Barangay Patuan.
01:05And one of them is in Las Piñas, Paranaque Wetland Park, or known as Lalawapa now.
01:11So, the number of participants reached more than 3,000 in all of Cavite.
01:19And in Las Piñas, more than 100 participated in the Philippine Reclamation.
01:26And the Philippine Reclamation Authority, as a help to the municipalities or to this activity,
01:32also provided materials for cleaning, such as latex rubber gloves, sacks,
01:39lighters, and meals and refreshments for our volunteers here.
01:45That's it.
01:47Okay, Sir Giavellio, how were the six sites chosen for this Coastal Cleanup Program?
01:56And what specific activities were done by the Philippine Reclamation Authority for these sites?
02:04The Philippine Reclamation Authority chose the four municipalities of Cavite
02:10as a part of a project, or they are the major impacts of the project of SNS to Nicola Shoal of PRA.
02:19And in Las Piñas, Paranaque Wetland Park, the PRA has been cleaning for a long time,
02:24or has been joining these activities, especially for environmental concerns.
02:31So, for history, in 2010, the PRA started joining the cleanups.
02:38And in 2022, the PRA also joined in providing or helping in cleaning in Cavite.
02:45And the projects here are the International Coastal Cleanup,
02:50collecting different types of waste from coastlines.
02:54So, there are domestic waste, industrial waste, agricultural waste, marine debris.
03:01So, all of these were collected in this activity.
03:07And there are also details of how many kilos of PRA was collected per municipality.
03:14I have a question for Engineer Tayabas.
03:17For our countrymen to understand,
03:19why are our coastal areas now considered a critical ecosystem?
03:30Engineer Tayabas?
03:31Good afternoon.
03:34According to studies, the Philippines is one of the countries
03:40that produces or produces plastic emissions in our coastal areas.
03:45So, for now, marine litter is a big issue in our area.
03:52So, this is what we will do,
03:55this environmental awareness to resolve issues such as marine litter.
04:01Okay.
04:02Engineer Tayabas, what are the other environmental threats
04:07that our coastal areas are facing in the country?
04:14Aside from marine litter,
04:17there are many environmental threats,
04:20such as humidification,
04:26coastal flooding along the coastal communities.
04:30Those are some of the environmental threats for our countrymen.
04:35Okay.
04:36Sir Javelio, how important is the participation of local communities
04:41in the efforts of the government to take care of the coastal ecosystem of the country?
04:51One of the things is to raise awareness among people,
04:56especially among children.
04:59So, if we can start this from a young age,
05:04and for the people now,
05:07raising awareness of cleanliness can help the coastal communities,
05:11and not just for them, but for the whole country.
05:18Okay, for Engineer Tayabas,
05:20what are the efforts and steps of the Philippine Reclamation Authority
05:26to ensure the sustainability of your coastal conservation efforts
05:31after your participation in the International Coastal Clean-Up?
05:41Aside from our coastal clean-ups in coastal communities
05:47and other water bodies,
05:50we also carry out environmental programs
05:53in the municipalities of Cavite,
05:57such as Environmental Awareness on Solid Waste Management.
06:01We also carry out environmental monitoring stations,
06:06particularly, we monitor the water quality and air quality
06:10in the stations as part of our projects.
06:15Currently, we have an SNS project.
06:18We have monitoring stations there
06:20that monitor environmental conditions
06:23such as water quality and air quality.
06:27Okay.
06:28Thank you very much for your time,
06:30Javelio Parr, Environmental Management Specialist II,
06:34and Engineer Albert Tayabas,
06:36Environmental Specialist of the Philippine Reclamation Authority or PRA.
