00:00:00All right, everyone, welcome back into another live edition of the Patriots Beat Podcast
00:00:25here on the CLNS Media Network, presented by our wonderful friends over at PrizePix
00:00:31and GameTime.
00:00:32It's Brian Hines, back as always with Alex Barth, because the Patriots are back at home
00:00:38this weekend, week five, and the division rival Miami Dolphins are coming to town.
00:00:43We got a barn burner on our hands here, because the Dolphins are reeling one and three.
00:00:49Their last in the league in points per game, boy genius Mike McDaniel over there, Barth's
00:00:53other guy, Mike McDaniel, last in the league.
00:00:55I have Mike McDaniel takes this week, don't you worry.
00:00:58We'll get to them.
00:00:59We'll get to them because, you know, they're down two up, but they're even down Skyler
00:01:04Thompson and they're on Snoop Huntley averaging, and I think it's just like 11.3 points per
00:01:09game.
00:01:10Are they down?
00:01:11I'm sorry, we're going to get into it.
00:01:12But like, I've been wondering this all week.
00:01:14Are they down Skyler Thompson or, because he was limited in practice.
00:01:19Are they down Skyler Thompson or is, because I think Tyler Huntley is a better quarterback
00:01:23than Skyler Thompson.
00:01:24Yep.
00:01:25That's just me.
00:01:26Probably.
00:01:27Because of his legs.
00:01:28Right.
00:01:29I'm not saying he's Dan Marino, but I think Tyler Huntley is the better quarterback, which
00:01:36sorry, I'm just going to go right in on, on Mike McDaniel here.
00:01:40Go for it.
00:01:41Why did they, why did they cut Mike White before the season?
00:01:47I said this at the time and I mean, I didn't make a big deal of it cause who the hell cares?
00:01:50It's Mike White, but Mike White's one of the better backup quarterbacks in the league.
00:01:54At least I think so.
00:01:55And you have a guy into a, and I get it.
00:01:58You just gave him a big contract.
00:01:59You don't want him to feel threatened.
00:02:00He shouldn't feel threatened by Mike White, but this is a guy that gets hurt a lot.
00:02:02You probably want a decent backup.
00:02:04Why are they cutting Mike White at the beginning of the season?
00:02:06I have no idea.
00:02:08And then to just go with Skyler Thompson instead of going to get somebody else.
00:02:11Uh, yeah, real, uh, this whole show is just going to be me taking shots at Mike McDaniel.
00:02:16I'll tell you that right now at future Patriots offensive coordinator, Mike McDaniel.
00:02:22Mike McDaniel.
00:02:23Um, yeah, kind of weird.
00:02:25Like when they signed Mike White, like it made a lot of sense.
00:02:28Cause again, you have Tua who's been injury prone a lot with the concussions and now you're
00:02:33like, okay, you have Mike White, who's not a, one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the
00:02:38league, but like, he's a guy who can kind of come in and steady the ship.
00:02:41You would imagine it in that offense, but, uh, they're off him.
00:02:45Uh, they've cut him.
00:02:46I don't even know where did he end up?
00:02:48He's not, I don't know where Mike White is.
00:02:51Mike White's with the Bills, isn't he?
00:02:53I think he's like the Bills third string.
00:02:55He's behind Trubisky even.
00:02:57So weird situation there, but, uh, it is Snoop Huntley.
00:03:01That's American writer, Mike White.
00:03:03Hang on.
00:03:04Now, look, it's not like he's Coy Cronk or anything, but yeah, he's with the Bills.
00:03:09Bills.
00:03:10Okay.
00:03:11Weird.
00:03:12Uh, let's start against Snoop Huntley.
00:03:15Now let's start on the Patriots defense because that's generated a lot of discussion.
00:03:19I know the offense is, is what it is at this point.
00:03:22Not great.
00:03:23The defense hasn't been great either through the first month of the season below.
00:03:27And I know the expectations are different kind of from training camp when we said this
00:03:31might be a top 10 unit, right?
00:03:33With the pieces they've lost since then, uh, due to trade and injuries and stuff like that.
00:03:38But even some of the personnel they have left, have you felt a little underwhelmed
00:03:43by the defense through the first month?
00:03:45And what are you, I know there's these non-negotiable negotiables that Gerrard's always been talking
00:03:50about.
00:03:51How can you see them kind of flip the script a little bit and try to get, it's kind of
00:03:55a good get right game again against Snoop Huntley here, but how does the defense kind
00:04:00of get back on track here?
00:04:03Yeah.
00:04:04Um, so I, I think there's a mix, obviously, you know, when we.
00:04:09Camp, who are we talking about as the Patriots, best defensive players, Matthew Jude on more
00:04:14Christian bar, more Juwan Bentley.
00:04:18I said, I think I said, you don't write Jude on bar, more Bentley Duggar peppers.
00:04:22And then you can throw in the sophomores Keon white and Christian Gonzalez, but they were
00:04:25kind of unknowns.
00:04:26So best case you're without five, your seven best players coming into the season.
00:04:31Now, some of that is on them.
00:04:32You know, they, we talked about depth, uh, edge depth being an issue.
00:04:36Even before they traded Jude on, we talked about corner depth being an issue, not that
00:04:39they lost anybody there, but again, like you get tested, you want, you know, you, you lose
00:04:43something in one position.
00:04:44You're trying to make up for it elsewhere, but I also just Alex Austin depth and O'Shane's
00:04:49a minute.
00:04:50That is true.
00:04:51Yeah.
00:04:52Um, that, that is true.
00:04:53That is a good point.
00:04:54I would say on top of that though, they're playing rather undisciplined defensive football,
00:05:02whether it's blowing the edge, missing tackles.
00:05:05Some of it is the calls to they're playing a lot more cover too, than they have in the
00:05:08past.
00:05:09Um, but I do think if they played, I think it was DeMarcus Covington who talked about
00:05:14this today and he was talking, he was specifically asked about third downs, but I think this
00:05:18applies to the defense as a whole.
00:05:20There's a lot of times where the coverage holds up and the pass rush doesn't do its
00:05:24job.
00:05:25And there's other times where the pass rush gets there, but somebody is, you know, running
00:05:28open in the secondary from the jump.
00:05:30So I just, they're not playing complimentary football.
00:05:34They're not playing fundamentally sound football.
00:05:37Another thing Covington said today, he actually asked us, it became a little bit of a, a call
00:05:41and response.
00:05:42I felt like I was back in school.
00:05:44Like the team says they play together as a unit.
00:05:48Thanks for stealing my thunder.
00:05:50I was going to say Brian, the Patriots is defense is best as a unit.
00:05:55That is correct.
00:05:57And it felt like the last few years, even though they had a lot of talent, they were
00:06:01better than the sum of their parts because of how seamlessly it all fit together.
00:06:05And you just don't have that this year.
00:06:07And some of that could be communication and they do have a lot of moving pieces and new
00:06:11guys, but I do think, so I've talked about this with the offense, right?
00:06:15I think the offense is more or less at its ceiling right now, or there's a ceiling set
00:06:21by the personnel and maybe they're not totally at it.
00:06:24There's some room to improve, but especially with the injuries up front, the offense we're
00:06:27seeing right now is kind of what they are.
00:06:29I don't think that's true with the defense.
00:06:31I think the defense has a lot of room once they get the communication down, once they
00:06:34start playing more technically sound football, things like that, there is natural room for
00:06:39improvement without, there are some things they can scheme differently, sure.
00:06:44And you know, things like that.
00:06:47But I think there's just a lot of room to improve simply by guys maintaining their assignments
00:06:51and playing, playing fundamentally sound.
00:06:53It's not a do your job defense right now.
00:06:56It's not a one 11th defense right now.
00:06:58And they need to get back to that, especially to bring it back to this week, especially
00:07:02against a guy like where did Snoop come from?
00:07:06By the way, no disrespect to him.
00:07:07I just never heard him call that until this week.
00:07:09I think he's, I don't know if it's like technically actually related or if it was like, he just
00:07:16kind of grew up around Snoop dog, but there is a relationship between Huntley and Snoop
00:07:20dog.
00:07:21I knew that, but when did he start going by Snoop?
00:07:25I thought he kind of always has.
00:07:27The first time I heard, maybe I missed it.
00:07:28I, I'll be honest.
00:07:29I wasn't super locked in on Tyler Huntley, but I don't pro bowler his whole career pro
00:07:34bowl.
00:07:35That is fair.
00:07:36Pro Bowler Tyler Huntley, but Snoop Huntley, but especially, especially against a guy like
00:07:39this that not just can win with his legs, but probably is going to want to win with
00:07:43his legs in certain situations.
00:07:45He doesn't have chemistry with these receivers.
00:07:47He just got there.
00:07:48What?
00:07:49Three weeks ago, he overthrew Tyree Tyree kill last week.
00:07:51I don't, I didn't know that was possible, but he's going to want to burst the under
00:07:56through him, which, and then he overthrew him.
00:07:59So he's making up for it.
00:08:00Okay.
00:08:01Um, yeah, so, you know, this is a guy that wants to burn you with his legs in a game
00:08:06like this.
00:08:07I think the total is 36 points that even feels high.
00:08:09You let him break off a 60 yard run.
00:08:11That could be the difference in the game.
00:08:12So they're going to need to be more fundamentally sound this week.
00:08:15Yep.
00:08:16And just going back to kind of like the expectations as a defense, you know where they are now
00:08:22and entering the season, how are you disappointed at all in the coaching staff?
00:08:28Because you mentioned they're playing more cover too, right?
00:08:30They're doing a lot of things that look different than a bill Belichick defense.
00:08:35And I think like you said, well, too, like it's not a do your job defense.
00:08:39You mentioned the more cover to that's hurt their pass rush.
00:08:42I think at times, uh, you know, the adjustments in game, they're, they're not as sound, you
00:08:47know, you have Jelani Tavai and your base defense as your middle linebacker, you know,
00:08:52getting passed on by Brock Purdy all day, uh, last week.
00:08:55So are you a little disappointed in, in the coaching staff that was, you know, the defensive
00:09:01staff was really supposed to be the strength here coming into the year along with that
00:09:05unit and the players.
00:09:06So are you disappointed on that side of the ball, uh, from the staff as well here?
00:09:11Yeah, a little bit.
00:09:12I, I, I didn't think they'd stray as far from the Belichick defense as they have now.
00:09:16I wonder if some of that's personnel, but you mentioned a guy like Jelani Tavai.
00:09:18This is, this is what annoys me is when did he come here in 21 or 22?
00:09:23I can't remember.
00:09:24I think it was 21, right?
00:09:2920.
00:09:29I've been giving this take like all day and I never bothered to look up what year he got
00:09:33here.
00:09:3321 was when Patricia kind of came back behind the scenes.
00:09:38So, and I think he brought them into, so he comes here in 21 and they play him as an off
00:09:43ball linebacker and he wasn't good at it.
00:09:46Come now 22, right?
00:09:48They reset and he's playing on the edge and he looks like a completely different player
00:09:54and played at a very high level and has continued to play at a very high level.
00:09:58And then they put him back off the ball when Bentley gets her.
00:10:01And on one hand, I understand like you got to have a guy there, but also, you know, you
00:10:07seen him in that role and you know that that doesn't work for him.
00:10:10It's not like a, let's try this.
00:10:12I feel like that's already been established.
00:10:14Like he is an outside linebacker.
00:10:16He's not, and he's a damn good outside linebacker.
00:10:18Like I don't want to knock him, but he's an outside linebacker.
00:10:21He's not a middle linebacker.
00:10:22It'd be the same as saying, well, you know, devise out.
00:10:25We need someone to rush the passer, put Marcus Jones out there, right?
00:10:28Like it's, um, this is not obviously that extreme, but they are limited by the personnel,
00:10:33but it just doesn't feel like the level of creativity isn't quite what I expected.
00:10:38And obviously bill defensive creativity, unlike anybody we've ever seen.
00:10:42So it wasn't going to be what it was right.
00:10:45So I, I don't know if it's, if it's just, they don't have it, but I think like they'd
00:10:50learn some stuff from being around bill.
00:10:52Maybe it's just, you know, early on you better safe than sorry.
00:10:56And you kind of built to that.
00:10:57But, um, yeah, I, they've just been a little more, I think conservative is probably the
00:11:02word I'm looking for.
00:11:02I think they've just been a little more conservative than maybe, um, people expected.
00:11:08Yep.
00:11:09Or than I, so this is like, again, it's a third string quarterback, a team that can't
00:11:15score what they have like one touchdown since week one or week two, I think, I think it
00:11:20is.
00:11:20So they're, they're struggling, but you want to see some changes and how maybe things
00:11:25are done schematically and you don't want to be blowing edges all game and stuff like
00:11:30that.
00:11:30You want to see some improvements, uh, and some of that comes with, with the coaching
00:11:34staff there.
00:11:34So, um, it will be a good, good week for that.
00:11:37And maybe they get some personnel back with Sion, talkie talkie and Marte Mapu, uh, they
00:11:43were practicing on Wednesday.
00:11:44You know, we mentioned Tavai being used a little bit more off ball.
00:11:48Maybe those guys can help fill in some of those roles.
00:11:51So I don't know if they're out there.
00:11:53Well, we'll have to wait and see.
00:11:54Do you think those two guys can kind of make a difference on that, on that second level
00:11:58of the defense?
00:11:59I think they have the potential to now.
00:12:01I mean, Oh, I, I don't want to call talkie talkie and unknown, like he's a proven player
00:12:05in this league, but, and I think it was Covington who said this today, kind of like, you know,
00:12:09we haven't really seen him in the context of the Patriots defense.
00:12:12He missed most of the spring, but certainly as the skillset to help Mop who is a Marte
00:12:17mop is more of an unknown.
00:12:18We don't even know what position he's going to play.
00:12:19Right.
00:12:20And I honestly think he's probably more peppers came back to practice today.
00:12:24So that's a good sign.
00:12:25But I mean, more or less like it's not confirmed.
00:12:28They're not going to have Kyle Duggar, but I think the writings on the wall, it'd be
00:12:31pretty surprising at this point of Kyle Duggar play Sunday.
00:12:34So playing more of that role.
00:12:35I don't know how much he helps in the linebacker role, but the big thing is when you're going
00:12:40to have, when you're in a rush, the way the Patriots have been rushing as aggressively
00:12:43as they've been rushing, you're going to need somebody to keep track of the QB either in
00:12:49his own or a spy or something.
00:12:50And they haven't had that this year.
00:12:52Mack Wilson did that a lot last year, right?
00:12:55John Bentley did a little bit.
00:12:57They don't really, they haven't been doing that.
00:12:59I don't know if it's a coaching.
00:13:00I hope it's not a coaching thing beyond just, they don't have the person.
00:13:05I think both of those guys make sense in that role.
00:13:08Cause they're in, you know, you mentioned the cover too.
00:13:10Like that guy is just playing back now, right?
00:13:12It's almost like Tampa too.
00:13:14Yeah.
00:13:14Yeah.
00:13:15So, but I don't know, maybe, maybe some of that is they don't feel like they have a guy
00:13:22that can handle that response.
00:13:23Now, the guy who can handle that responsibility or can't handle that responsibility also shouldn't
00:13:28be playing deep middle, but that's another conversation.
00:13:31They've used Mapu in this role before.
00:13:33I think he played it a little bit against Josh Allen in one of the bills games last
00:13:37year, if I remember correctly.
00:13:39Um, I think they did that, but.
00:13:42Is that where you got the, uh, interception against my homes too?
00:13:44From you kind of like, yeah, you might be right.
00:13:47Yeah.
00:13:47You might be right.
00:13:48Uh, maybe that's honestly, that might be the game I'm thinking of here.
00:13:51Uh, but last year, last year, all blends together, especially not in December.
00:13:56And that's part of the season.
00:13:58Seriously.
00:13:58But talkie talkie can certainly handle that role as well.
00:14:01That allows you to, to play Mapu backward Duggars, but these are two guys coming back
00:14:05at positions where they really need not just bodies, but guys to play a significant workload.
00:14:11So we'll see if they're back this week.
00:14:14Like they Mayo and Covington were kind of cautious on whether or not they'll actually
00:14:19be back this week.
00:14:19Kendrick Bourne, I think will be just based on the way I am not reporting anything here.
00:14:23Just me kind of putting together what's been said by coaches and players in press conferences.
00:14:31He talked today and kind of right.
00:14:33So that's the thing.
00:14:34I think he's going to be back this week.
00:14:36Yeah.
00:14:36Yeah.
00:14:37He talked about ramping up.
00:14:38He was like, when I get my first catch, I don't remember if he said this week, but he
00:14:41was like, yeah, when I get like, he seems like a guy that's gone.
00:14:44Um, we'll see if these two guys play this week.
00:14:47They could use them this week, but even down the road, uh, I think I said this to you.
00:14:50I said it to somebody when Bentley got hurt.
00:14:53Talkie talkie and Mapu suddenly become, they were kind of afterthoughts through camp.
00:14:57We're just sort of out of sight, out of mind kind of thing.
00:14:59That's what happens.
00:15:01They suddenly become tremendously important players for the Patriots.
00:15:06Yep.
00:15:06Yeah.
00:15:07So hopefully again, they started practice on Wednesday.
00:15:11So that activation, the 21 day window open there.
00:15:14So they'll be back at some point, but whether they can play on Sunday or not, it is TBD
00:15:21at this point, but they have been practicing.
00:15:23Um, how do you stop Tyree kill and Jalen Waddle?
00:15:26Because again, the Patriots have been giving up some of those explosives down the field.
00:15:32And I know Snoop Huntley was overthrowing Tyree kill, but it was an open Tyree kill.
00:15:36Like he's still getting open.
00:15:38He's obviously still very good.
00:15:40Jalen Waddle speedster as well.
00:15:42Christian Gonzalez had success in the matchup last year.
00:15:45You know, Jonathan Jones has had his success against those guys with, you know, matching
00:15:50speed on speed.
00:15:50So how are you kind of approaching that Miami passing attack and, you know, more of those
00:15:56receivers?
00:15:56Cause it is against Snoop Huntley.
00:15:58Well, think about a game like this is they may only need to hit one big play.
00:16:03Like Huntley may not hit it consistently, but they hit one and that could be the game.
00:16:08Jonathan Jones had a ton of success against Tyree kill in the past.
00:16:11And I would just throw him over there.
00:16:14Um, this, as much as we just kind of ripped them cover to Jonathan Jones, kind of on,
00:16:20on, on Tyree kill side and go Gonzalez with Waddle and then just get safeties back.
00:16:25Jalen Hawkins get back.
00:16:26Don't let anybody get behind you this week.
00:16:30Let's see if Snoop Huntley can, can go 30 for 35, right?
00:16:34Let's see if he can nickel his die, nickel and dime his way down the field and surgically
00:16:39tear the Patriots apart.
00:16:40And in March for a touchdown, instead of hitting the one big play, uh, that's what you want
00:16:44to do if you're the Patriots.
00:16:45So I'm, I'm just kind of blanketing the deep stuff and you got to run the ball.
00:16:51And here's the difference between the Niners and the Dolphins and Shanahan and McDaniel.
00:16:54And it's funny as much as I knock Shanahan, I'm going to have to give him a ton of credit
00:17:01on the show because there's things that McDaniel hasn't figured out that even Shanahan has
00:17:06should say even Shanahan, you know what I'm saying?
00:17:08But Shanahan, if you, and he did this to the Patriots last week, you're going to play too
00:17:13high.
00:17:13You're going to leave guys back.
00:17:15We'll run the ball and he will run the ball all day until there's 10 minutes left in the
00:17:18fourth quarter.
00:17:18And it's a two score game and he's around the clock, but he'll try to run the ball to
00:17:22get that big lead before he blows it.
00:17:24I'm on a roll right now.
00:17:26McDaniel doesn't have as much interest in running the ball.
00:17:29McDaniel will continue to throw in a bad looks to do what he wants to do.
00:17:34Let Miami run it.
00:17:34Let Miami take stuff underneath.
00:17:36Just don't let them get a chunk play because this game can be one 1610.
00:17:41This game can be one, maybe like 10 to seven.
00:17:44You don't win it that way by giving up big place.
00:17:47You win it that way by shortening the game, making a backup quarterback.
00:17:51Who's been with this team for less than a month.
00:17:53Play as perfect of a game as possible in capitalizing on mistakes.
00:17:58My, I don't even think it's a hot take, but like my big picture take on this game.
00:18:01I think I said this to you today.
00:18:02We were walking out of practice.
00:18:04A defensive touchdown wins this game.
00:18:06I think if either defense scores a touchdown or sets, you know, their offense up like the
00:18:11five, that can be the entire difference in this game.
00:18:14It really can be.
00:18:16So make them be as perfect as possible.
00:18:20Yeah.
00:18:21Turnovers, any kind of turnover will be huge in what you expect to be a low scoring game.
00:18:25But yeah, if you make Snoop Huntley put together eight, 10, 12 play drives, and that's how
00:18:31they're beating you, like tip of your cap there.
00:18:33So do you also think maybe, you know, in that secondary against these receivers, maybe a
00:18:39little more man coverage, because that's, again, something they've kind of dialed back
00:18:43here of late specifically on third down, which they've been one of the worst teams in the
00:18:48league on third down.
00:18:49And, you know, even though they have, they, you know, they have good coverage initially
00:18:53on sometimes, and then, you know, we get to the rush and letting guys out of the pocket.
00:18:56But do you think maybe you trust Christian Gonzalez and Jonathan Jones and man coverage
00:19:02a little bit more, you know, maybe even they just start moving back to that as a whole,
00:19:06but against this week against some of those speeds or receivers, maybe.
00:19:11I'm sorry.
00:19:12Say that again.
00:19:13You cut out just more, you know, they've gone away from more man coverage, especially
00:19:18on later downs.
00:19:19You think maybe as a whole, they start shifting back more to that.
00:19:23And that could start this week.
00:19:24If you trust those guys against Tyree kill and jail model.
00:19:28Yeah, it's I mean, this is the offense they're built to match up with.
00:19:31We've done the last few shows, Brian talking about how they're mismatched against these
00:19:36bigger receivers in the Allen Lizards and the Jawan Jennings of the league because they
00:19:40have all these small fast guys.
00:19:42Well, this week you're defending small fast guys, right?
00:19:45So I would say go for it.
00:19:46Yeah, and it's easier to force turnovers off or that's a philosophical thing.
00:19:51I think it's easier to force turnovers off of man coverage.
00:19:53I think zone coverage is more passive.
00:19:55It's easier to, you know, you're going to give up less, but you can gain more by playing
00:19:59man.
00:20:00That's my general philosophy.
00:20:01You need forced turnover this week.
00:20:02Like this defense needs to force more turnovers, plain and simple.
00:20:05That's I know they forced one last week, but I was late in the game.
00:20:08Like they got it.
00:20:09They got to get to it.
00:20:10Yeah, I would try to play more man this week.
00:20:12The only thing is when you're playing man, the eyes are off the quarterback and it opens
00:20:18up Huntley to run around.
00:20:19This is where, again, if they can go man with a robber or man with a spy or something like
00:20:23that, you feel a lot better about that.
00:20:25Yeah, that was their last, like the last year defense, last few years under Bill, like it
00:20:29was man, but then you would have that Mack Wilson type roaming that second level to take
00:20:34care of a quarterback if they rush.
00:20:35So that could be something you pivot back more to.
00:20:39But, uh, last thing I had on the defense, you know, we heard all these talks about,
00:20:44you know, Devon Godshop players are being selfish.
00:20:47Mayo kind of said that came from him and the squad meeting.
00:20:50The main culprits looked like Joshua Uche in Keon White.
00:20:55They can't really afford to take a guy like Keon White off the field, but maybe Uche.
00:21:00Do you think the roles change there?
00:21:02You know, Anthony Jennings coming back from injury, he's been limited is like just an
00:21:06automatic that would make it smooth Uche snaps.
00:21:09But just how do you think they deployed those guys?
00:21:12Because at some point, like they got to do something to make their point known that you
00:21:16just can't keep letting this happen.
00:21:18So do you think some of their snaps or roles change for those guys who might be the ones
00:21:22who are being labeled as selfish in there?
00:21:25Well, keep in mind, we're gonna have this conversation again in like three minutes when
00:21:28we talk about Ramanjari Stevenson, but, um, I, you know, I.
00:21:32You still have to play Uche because he just has the potential to be explosive.
00:21:38They need Jennings back.
00:21:39Like if Jennings comes back, I think he's playing a lot in this game.
00:21:43A lot.
00:21:44Um, the one guy I wouldn't mind seeing more of.
00:21:48So you could do this two ways.
00:21:50Uh, there's a couple ways you could do this.
00:21:51Can you play McMillan more off the ball or talkie talkie?
00:21:55Like, does that get to buy back on the edge?
00:21:57Cause he's not going to create a ton of pass rush, but you know, he's going to set the
00:22:00edge and be disciplined and keep contained.
00:22:02Um, so you can get him back there by putting McMillan in the middle, uh, talkie talkie.
00:22:06If he comes back, you can put him in the middle.
00:22:09If the plan is just one for one at the edge.
00:22:10I know they gave Curtis Jacobs some run last week.
00:22:13I kind of want to see Christian Ellis play more on defense.
00:22:16Looked good and minimal defensive snaps last week and had a hell of a game on special teams,
00:22:20showed an ability to chase down plays from behind and securely tackle people.
00:22:24Like I'm not saying bench Josh Uche entirely, but I would give if Jennings is back to play
00:22:31Jennings, like just play him as much as he can.
00:22:33If not, or if Jennings is going to be on a pitch count or something like that, whether
00:22:37it's talkie talkie or McMillan off the ball.
00:22:40And when McMillan's off the ball, I get it.
00:22:41Like you're small.
00:22:43That's not a run against the run.
00:22:45You're going to have to figure out something else, but against the pass, um, you can get
00:22:50away with McMillan in the middle and to buy on the edge or just putting Christian Ellis
00:22:55on the edge and seeing what that looks like.
00:22:57I don't know for sure that it's going to work, but I think I've seen enough that I'm like,
00:23:01yeah, I'd give it a shot.
00:23:01I'd see what it looks like.
00:23:03Yeah.
00:23:04Ellis also has like that Mack Wilson body type kind of, so he could, yeah, you can also,
00:23:08yeah, you can try playing him off the ball instead of on the edge too.
00:23:10That's a good point.
00:23:11So something like that.
00:23:12So, uh, that's bigger than I thought for the way he moves.
00:23:17Yeah, definitely.
00:23:18So he, he could factor into that equation too.
00:23:20Uh, maybe if, you know, talkie talkie or mop who aren't fully ready or, you know, even
00:23:24if they are out there, they might be somewhat limited in their first action here, uh, since
00:23:29last season.
00:23:29So we'll see over the defense, but good kind of bounce back opportunity, uh, again, against
00:23:34Snoop Huntley and that Dolphins offense, excuse me, that is averaging the, uh, lowest points
00:23:40in the league, but, uh, let's go over to the offense.
00:23:43And before we do that, I ought to tell you guys about price picks, which is the best

00:24:57Run your game.
00:24:59All right.
00:24:59We, uh, we went three for four last week, right?
00:25:01I think we, we've gone three for four every single week.
00:25:07So should we just do three this week?
00:25:08Or we might, we might have to.
00:25:10No, I'm not that.
00:25:11No, you know what?
00:25:11I'm backing down.
00:25:12I'm not backing down.
00:25:13We're doing four.
00:25:13We're going to get this, but we'll do that.
00:25:14We gotta hit a double digit multiplier.
00:25:18That should be our goal.
00:25:19That's the goal by the end of the season.
00:25:21We will do that.
00:25:21So play along with us on price picks if you want.
00:25:24Absolutely.
00:25:24So stay with us.
00:25:26We'll have, uh, our picks.
00:25:27We'll go over, uh, the board there, but to end the show, but let's switch over to the
00:25:32offensive side of the football.
00:25:36What the hell's going on on the offensive line here?
00:25:38Cause David Andrews, I don't think we've done a show since the news for David, uh,
00:25:42officially broke.
00:25:43So he elected that surgery on the shoulder.
00:25:47So he's out for the season.
00:25:49Um, so that puts Nick Lovrett back in who held up decently, uh, you know, uh, on Sunday
00:25:55in San Francisco, didn't have any pressures, but then he's been limited all week with an
00:26:00ankle injury.
00:26:01Uh, we have the Darian Lowe still limited at left tackle with the Monterey Jacobs.
00:26:05Who's, you know, healthy, but we, we saw how that works, uh, you know, it was against Nick
00:26:10bow.
00:26:10So you don't want to get on them too much tough situation for the Monterey Jacobs there.
00:26:15Uh, Michael Jordan is kind of working his way back, uh, on the interior laden Robinson's
00:26:19dealing with two injuries now.
00:26:21So just what, what the hell's going on, on the offensive line and how are you trying
00:26:26to, again, we're not figuring this thing out, but how are you trying to just patch the hole,
00:26:30uh, this week against Miami?
00:26:33Yeah, that's a, that's a good question.
00:26:36Uh, and was it Van Pelt today who said something along the lines of like, we're waiting to
00:26:41see who's available late in the week.
00:26:43Yeah.
00:26:44Uh, so yeah, I think there's truth to that.
00:26:49I think they legitimately don't know who they're, they'll have available to an extent, at least
00:26:53like to a, to a certain extent.
00:26:55Um, we're, I, I, Nick Levery, I don't even, where do we, all right.
00:27:02Left tackle.
00:27:03I do think, yeah, let's go in order.
00:27:06It really is like, my goodness.
00:27:09Um, I mean, we were watching just like, man, my God, we were watching that practice today.
00:27:15And usually, you know, if we're looking at it and the binoculars, we can figure out the
00:27:20five and today they were like, I think they were using their muscle tight end.
00:27:24So it got a little confusing and they were going in like twos and threes, but it was
00:27:28all over the place.
00:27:28It was tough to tell today, but start at left tackle.
00:27:32What's going on?
00:27:32I think the dairy and low is going to be back.
00:27:34Left tackle.
00:27:34Actually at this point, it's pretty simple.
00:27:36If a dairy and low is healthy, it's very low.
00:27:37If not, it's to Monterey Jacobs.
00:27:39Yeah.
00:27:39Like that's done.
00:27:41The guards are more confusing because it does still seem like they're invested in
00:27:47Layton Robinson.
00:27:47And I just think at this point in pass pro, he needs a little more work and you now have
00:27:53city.
00:27:53So we think it's healthy.
00:27:54If city, so it's not healthy.
00:27:55You have to play it's late Robinson and Michael Jordan.
00:27:57And that's pretty clear.
00:27:59If city, so it's healthy.
00:28:00I know we started a season on practice squad, but Michael Jordan's been your best guard
00:28:03this year.
00:28:05And I don't think it's practical.
00:28:06It's, it's relatively close and that's not to say he's been great, but he's actually
00:28:09been a solid player.
00:28:11So if you can go Michael Jordan on the left city, so on the right, that to me is the best
00:28:17possible setup, but I would not bench city.
00:28:21So I know he didn't have a great week last week, but his first game of the year, I would
00:28:26not bench city.
00:28:27So for late Robson at this point, I would not do that.
00:28:29He's also not on the injury report.
00:28:31So city city, but I think he was, Oh yeah, right.
00:28:35He's not.
00:28:35So they may just in late Robson is, so they may just really like late Robinson, but yeah,
00:28:40I, I think he needs more time.
00:28:42I think he needs more time.
00:28:43I'm not toy.
00:28:44And I, I haven't been sold on him since the beginning.
00:28:45I thought they got a little too ahead of themselves with him at the beginning of the
00:28:49season after the bangles game.
00:28:51I mean, it's going to be Nick Leverett center.
00:28:52If he's healthy, if not Brian Hudson, just the way Leverett talked this week, I would
00:28:56think he's okay.
00:28:57I almost wonder.
00:28:58And, and Pelt kind of too.
00:29:00Like, I know he said Hudson took all the snaps first snap yesterday on Wednesday, but he
00:29:05kind of said, you know, he was asked about how the communication now goes without Andrews.
00:29:09Cause the center makes a lot of the checks and calls out the mics and the IDs and all
00:29:12that.
00:29:12And he said, you know, Nick's got it.
00:29:14Nick's ready to go.
00:29:15Jacoby will take on a little bit more responsibility there, but you know, the consensus, how they
00:29:19talk seemed like Leverett's going to be ready to go there at center, but the Hudson I'd
00:29:23imagine Hudson gets a practice squad elevation there just cause he's your only other center
00:29:27ready there, but they might, they might sign them.
00:29:30They're going to open up.
00:29:31So they have one roster spot open, right?
00:29:34They have one roster spot open.
00:29:35They're going to have another for Andrews.
00:29:36I would expect them not to make that move to at least Friday, if not Saturday.
00:29:40Um, and then are they going to keep, what would it be?
00:29:44Seven receivers with born?
00:29:48Yes.
00:29:48Too many receivers, whatever it is.
00:29:49It's too many receivers.
00:29:50So whether it's cutting case on booty, maybe, uh, KJ Osborne goes on IR.
00:29:58He hasn't practiced this week, something like that.
00:30:01Um, you're, you're going to see, uh, you're going to see it.
00:30:06You could see another spot open.
00:30:07You need a backup center and maybe they just take it week to week.
00:30:10And it's like, all right, we don't need to sign this guy for two or three weeks, but
00:30:13couldn't hurt.
00:30:14It does make sense.
00:30:14They're getting them snaps.
00:30:15The one thing you look at here is remember Andrews did have a ton of management days
00:30:20throughout camp.
00:30:21So Nick Leverett does have experience with this group, which is good, but he's got to
00:30:25be able to snap the ball and something I'll be watching, not necessarily the bad snaps
00:30:28because he was a decent center.
00:30:31He played well for the start of camp.
00:30:32And then it was kind of the last week and a half things, the wheels fell off.
00:30:35But the one thing I noticed about him was he wasn't snapped.
00:30:41The snaps weren't like firing back there.
00:30:44He was lofting them back a little bit.
00:30:45And that may be the difference of a 10th of a second or two 10ths of a second.
00:30:49But in this game, especially behind this offensive line matters, that makes a difference.
00:30:53So we'll see what those snaps look like.
00:30:55And then, uh, right.
00:30:57Tackle still Michael and window.
00:30:58Cause again, they have, they have nobody else and they haven't really shown us at least
00:31:03any indication that they're getting somebody else ready.
00:31:05I know we kind of talked about on the last show, do you, do you try, um, I almost said
00:31:11Curtis Jacobs, uh, Caleb Jones, uh, do you try Caleb Jones over there?
00:31:16And maybe I think he's the back, right?
00:31:18Well, I guess it's probably Zach Thomas is back, right.
00:31:21Tackle.
00:31:21But, um, yeah.
00:31:24So all that rambling basically means is it's a mess.
00:31:28If I had to guess, right.
00:31:30If I had assuming everybody's healthy, low Jordan.
00:31:35Leverett.
00:31:37I think they're going to go with Lane Robinson and right guard.
00:31:39Even, even if city, so it's healthy.
00:31:42I think you're going to start with him.
00:31:44Yeah.
00:31:44Pull him if he's not playing well.
00:31:45I wouldn't do that, but I think that's what they're going to do.
00:31:48And then Mike would win a right tackle.
00:31:50Uh, uh, Zach Thomas is your, your jumbo tight end, your third tackle.
00:31:55And then who does that leave you for backups?
00:31:57That leaves you if low is healthy, then you have to elevate Hudson or Hudson.
00:32:05And yeah, it's not great.
00:32:08Yep.
00:32:09Yeah.
00:32:09So I think that's probably the five, uh, you're looking at I'm with you.
00:32:12I would start city at right guard there, especially like Evan made a good point.
00:32:18I was talking to him at practice, like just sitting late in Robinson down for a couple
00:32:22of weeks and just like being like, okay, like take a step back.
00:32:25Cause it's a lot of his issues are the past protection and the mental side of the, you
00:32:29know, the stunts, the line games, just like take a step back, take a little mental reset.
00:32:33It's a long season for a rookie offensive lineman to play all these games.
00:32:38So I think that could kind of benefit him.
00:32:41And then you hope city kind of, uh, gets back to what he was, you know, the promise he showed
00:32:45last year.
00:32:45I know it was like one game, um, last week.
00:32:49So I hope he works some of the rough stuff there, but
00:32:52well, look, I mean, they did this with city.
00:32:54So last year, remember he started and it wasn't great.
00:32:57And then he went back in the lineup after Cole strange got hurt and he actually finished
00:33:01the year on a high note.
00:33:02That's why they were so high on him.
00:33:03So I, I, I definitely would not be opposed, uh, or I definitely think it should be city.
00:33:09So, but they just seem to really, I'm not saying there's nothing to like about Lane
00:33:14Robinson, but they seem to be a little ahead of themselves with him at this point.
00:33:19Yeah.
00:33:19It's just the past pro it's been bad at times, but, uh, Cole strange too.
00:33:27Uh, will he be center when he gets healthy?
00:33:29Someone asks, uh, Mark asked, there was a report today from Mark Daniels that
00:33:35how, how do you word it?
00:33:37Wanting to play or on track to play like later plans to play.
00:33:40I think, hang on.
00:33:41I can pull this up plans to play this year.
00:33:43So I already had to pull this up once today.
00:33:45Um, still sound ways away from that.
00:33:47Like he hasn't been cleared to practice, but maybe Cole strange at some point comes and
00:33:53gives you something there, uh, late, late in the year.
00:33:57So if you're expecting anything, but yeah, my understanding, and this is a few months
00:34:04old, so this could change was like a rant, like about two months in.
00:34:10So more like end of October was like an ideal target.
00:34:14So I think we're still another month away, about a month away, you know, give or take
00:34:18a week or two.
00:34:19Um, Daniel's mentioned strange.
00:34:22Hasn't been cleared to practice.
00:34:23That could also mean he's just not clear to be on the field.
00:34:26And Kendrick Bourne talked about this today that he probably could have like been on the
00:34:31field to start the season, but he wasn't ready.
00:34:34And he was able to use these last four weeks sort of as his own training camp.
00:34:38Cause he was rehabbing during actual training camp.
00:34:41So Cole strange has to get on the field.
00:34:43He has to get back in just like physical shape, get on the field.
00:34:48Then it's a week or two, probably to get back into football shape.
00:34:52And some people will say, well, isn't that why you have three weeks when you activate
00:34:55the guy off?
00:34:55I are guy off.
00:34:56I are.
00:34:57It can be that, but also you can take it as all right.
00:35:01You know, physically he's ready.
00:35:02Now let's get him out on the field.
00:35:03Let's get him doing some individual stuff, get him set there.
00:35:08Now we'll activate him and now we'll start getting him back in shape in the context of
00:35:11the team.
00:35:12You know, with Kendrick Bourne, it's a unique thing because he was put on IR at the start
00:35:16of the season.
00:35:16He had to miss four weeks.
00:35:18That ramp up period could have only been like two or three.
00:35:20And they just figured out if he's going to miss three weeks, he's going to miss four.
00:35:23Like that's not for a roster spot.
00:35:25That's worth it.
00:35:26With Cole strange, you have a little more flexibility because you don't have that four
00:35:30week, the four weeks have passed essentially.
00:35:33So I, it is encouraging that we'll see him at some point.
00:35:37I would think probably later than earlier.
00:35:40Again, I would say it, the beginning of November is when we start talking about it.
00:35:45Pat stats says Thanksgiving.
00:35:47That seems like a reasonable.
00:35:48Yeah.
00:35:48So that would make sense.
00:35:49So if he's back for Thanksgiving, that's probably, he gets on the field at the start of November
00:35:54starts going through that ramp up process.
00:35:57Um, and then, you know, is activated.
00:36:00We, you know, 11, 12, 13, whatever you want to call it.
00:36:02I would work him at center.
00:36:05I would, they have guards.
00:36:07They like, I don't think he's a tackle.
00:36:09I don't think he is the play strength to play tackle in the NFL, especially not left tackle,
00:36:13which is the position they really need.
00:36:16I would work him at center.
00:36:17Cause you need a long-term answer of center.
00:36:19And they don't have one right now.
00:36:21I know they drafted Jake Andrews, but he's dealing with his own significant injury.
00:36:25So you don't know what his future is.
00:36:28Nick lever.
00:36:29It's a fine player.
00:36:30Maybe he becomes something, but he's only played, I think, 60 career snaps at center
00:36:34in the NFL.
00:36:35He was a guard before that.
00:36:36So you see with him, um, Brian Hudson, same thing, total wildcard or total, um, uh, uh,
00:36:45lottery ticket.
00:36:46And, and look strange.
00:36:48It's center is too.
00:36:48That's not guaranteeing it's works, but if you're just kind of throwing things against
00:36:52the wall to see what sticks, you might as well throw as many things as possible.
00:36:55Especially cause if we're talking, you know, six weeks from now, you hope, I know what
00:37:01the way it's going, like who knows, but you hope you could have two guard spots settled
00:37:05down between Michael Jordan city.
00:37:07So in Leighton Robinson, you hope at that point, you finally would have some continuity
00:37:11at the guards.
00:37:12Again, that seems like a huge ask with this team, uh, in the injuries, but you know, maybe
00:37:17you don't want to disrupt some final continuity there at the guards.
00:37:20And now, and now you could try working them out, uh, at center, but, uh, that's how the
00:37:25offensive line, uh, kind of looks, uh, Jacoby preset will be behind that offensive line.
00:37:31Again, if it was up to me, I would be making the switch to Drake May this week.
00:37:36I know you feel differently still behind this line, but where are you kind of at, uh, with
00:37:41just Jacoby as, as a whole right now?
00:37:44Um, look, I thought last week was his worst game.
00:37:48I think he's sped up and that's tough to come back from now.
00:37:51He's a veteran.
00:37:52So he's a guy that can bounce back from it more than a young guy.
00:37:54We'll see what he looks like this week.
00:37:56But I've said this from the beginning.
00:37:59Jacoby process performance in a bubble should not impact Drake May's timeline.
00:38:04Whatever the plan is for Drake May you stick to that plan.
00:38:07Like Jacoby reset playing poorly does not make Drake May any better of a quarterback
00:38:11or any more ready.
00:38:12So, you know, last week I, you know, originally I said, can you get your starting five?
00:38:18And then last week it was okay.
00:38:19Well, how about D this best five of what's left?
00:38:22And we've now lost one, if not two of those guys, David Andrews.
00:38:25Then we'll see what happens with Cade wall.
00:38:27So it hasn't been a practice this week.
00:38:29All I'm asking now, can you get an offensive line for two weeks in a row?
00:38:37Like little, let five guys play together once.
00:38:42And then if we can get that another week, I'm ready to go to Drake May.
00:38:46That is how low the bar is, but I want some sort of comfort before you put him in.
00:38:51It's a 50% pressure rate.
00:38:52And I know people say Jacoby versus holding the ball too long.
00:38:55Did he last week?
00:38:56Yes.
00:38:57For the season, Jacoby reset it.
00:39:00PFF tracks.
00:39:01What percentage of pressures are the responsibility of the quarterback?
00:39:05Just holding the ball.
00:39:07He is the fourth lowest percentage among qualified quarterbacks.
00:39:12I forget who's behind him, but 7.5% of all the pressures are on him.
00:39:15That's bottom five in the league.
00:39:18It's the line.
00:39:20And there's only a certain amount.
00:39:22You can subject Drake May to like, what's the state Drake.
00:39:26May's not going to get sped up and start developing bad habits and things like that.
00:39:29If it's going to happen to a guy like Jacoby Berset, who has played on bad teams and played
00:39:33behind offensive lines and gotten hit a ton and knows how to handle it.
00:39:39I'll use the word Gerard Mayo used the other day.
00:39:42He talked about that Bengals win being unsustainable.
00:39:45Do you remember what we were saying about that?
00:39:47The offensive line after that game?
00:39:49Yeah, it was bad.
00:39:50They somehow still won, but it was bad because.
00:39:54Can you allow your quarterback to face that kind of pressure here and there?
00:39:59And when can you, sorry, can you allow your quarterback to face that kind of pressure
00:40:03consistently and pick up a win here or there?
00:40:07Sure.
00:40:08Can you allow your quarterback to face that kind of pressure?
00:40:10And expect him to be consistent?
00:40:12No, that's not realistic.
00:40:14And I don't know why that's going to be any different for Drake May than Jacoby Berset.
00:40:17Again, well, Drake May is going to run around.
00:40:18He's going to run away from pressure.
00:40:20Not all of it.
00:40:21Even if he drops, even if he eliminates 10% of all pressures, which is a lot.
00:40:28A lot.
00:40:29There's still like the fourth worst offensive line in the league in terms of pass, bro.
00:40:34There's still historically bad.
00:40:36So.
00:40:38And I don't want this to get skewed into.
00:40:40I don't want Drake May to play this year.
00:40:42I don't want him to play for five years, right?
00:40:44You got a bubble wrap.
00:40:46I'm just asking for a baseline, man.
00:40:48I'm just asking for something.
00:40:49I there is really nothing I feel good about other than Pop Douglas and Jalen Polk.
00:40:55And he can't get them the ball.
00:40:56Like, I don't have one thing.
00:40:58When Drake May goes in and it's falling apart around him.
00:41:01What does he have to fall back on?
00:41:02Once the what's what's the outlet?
00:41:05Right.
00:41:05The is it remandery?
00:41:06Stevenson, he can't stop fumbling.
00:41:09Is it the line?
00:41:09It's certainly not.
00:41:10So like, give me one thing.
00:41:13That he can hang his hat on when he goes in and I'll say I'm ready to put him in.
00:41:16I'm just not there yet.
00:41:17And I know receivers open.
00:41:19There are guys getting open.
00:41:21Not quick enough.
00:41:22And that's not their fault.
00:41:23Like there's no time.
00:41:25There's no time.
00:41:26So can we at least get a line that's played together back to back weeks?
00:41:29Because I think some of it.
00:41:30It's not just like these guys are like weak and can't handle themselves.
00:41:33I think some is just communication because there's no consistency.
00:41:38And Van Pelt mentioned this today that part of the reason they're not using pre-snap motion
00:41:41is it requires a certain level of chemistry from the offensive line.
00:41:45They just don't have right now because they don't have the same guys playing week in and
00:41:49week out.
00:41:50Can we just get some sort of baseline on that?
00:41:53And then I'll say you can put Drake May in before that.
00:41:56I just, I can't get there.
00:41:58I think you're playing with fire.
00:41:59Are you willing, Brian, would you be willing to bet your career that Drake May will be
00:42:05okay if you put him in this offense as constituted?
00:42:07Cause that's what you're doing.
00:42:08You can't put him in, realize it's bad and pull him.
00:42:11You can't do that.
00:42:13Even against a weak team like the Dolphins.
00:42:15Would you bet your, I know you want to see him shiny new toy.
00:42:18Fine.
00:42:19Would you bet your career that the shine's not going to come off the toy in 60 minutes
00:42:23against Miami?
00:42:26I would have confidence.
00:42:27I don't know if I'd bet my career, which is probably where they're at kind of.
00:42:31And that's why I think they're waiting.
00:42:33Cause you can't, if you're too late on them, whatever, like, all right, you missed a chance
00:42:38at a couple of games in 2024 when you weren't going to contend anyway.
00:42:41Oh no, that's terrible.
00:42:42Like I'll go back to this take.
00:42:44Nobody's sitting here saying, yeah, the Brady era was great, but man, I wish we saw more
00:42:48in 2000.
00:42:48If he had just played like a few games in 2000, I could really buy in, but no, it was
00:42:52disappointing the whole Tom Brady era.
00:42:54Cause I didn't see him week one against the Bengals in 2001.
00:42:58Like, that's what you're talking about.
00:43:01That's what you're talking about.
00:43:02If you're, you're saying, oh, well, they're going to be too late on him.
00:43:04If you're too early, you're out on the street and we, as fans are doing the quarterback
00:43:08thing again in three years and talking about DJ lagway.
00:43:11So I don't mind being a little patient.
00:43:14Now I think that patients can cross the line and when we get there, I'll call it out.
00:43:19But I don't think we're getting too close to that line just yet.
00:43:23Yeah.
00:43:23So that was like, where do you think that line would be?
00:43:26Cause that was one of the things that I was kind of saying, you're, you're not, you're
00:43:31against the full red shirt year, right?
00:43:33Like you think he should play at some point this year?
00:43:37Yes, I, so, okay, here's, here's the big picture take.
00:43:42I think there are multiple benefits for really benefits to Drake may playing this year.
00:43:47One, his development and he can develop behind the scenes.
00:43:49I'm with fellow around this.
00:43:51He can develop behind the scenes, but there's another level when you get into the game.
00:43:54One is development to the developmental players around him.
00:43:58Guys like Jalen Polk, guys like pop Douglas.
00:44:01Three, there's the benefit to the front office of seeing what he looks like within this system
00:44:06with these players and it helps you plan out your off season.
00:44:08Okay.
00:44:09Maybe, you know, we should focus more on this.
00:44:11Okay.
00:44:11Maybe we don't need this as much as we thought, cause he's doing this.
00:44:14And then four is you get him to put some plays on tape that you use to show free agents.
00:44:19This is what we're building around.
00:44:20This is what we want you to come be a part of.
00:44:24And I guess here's where the line is for me, but it's, it's kind of a subjective.
00:44:29If he played right now, can he accomplish any of those four things?
00:44:38Yeah.
00:44:39Or can the team accomplish any of those four things?
00:44:40I don't think so.
00:44:42Just cause of the line you're saying?
00:44:44Yeah.
00:44:44I don't think you're going to accomplish any of that to a reasonable degree.
00:44:47I think you can get there, but I don't think you can accomplish any of that right now.
00:44:50So there's my line.
00:44:52He needs to be able to show some, he needs to have more than two seconds to throw the ball.
00:44:57He needs to not be getting up off the turf.
00:44:59Again, literally every single play, not literally 49.6%.
00:45:03I don't want to pull a cam Neely and say 64 when it's really 62 and a half.
00:45:07I'm going to be fair there.
00:45:0949.6%, not half the time, but close to it.
00:45:13Yeah.
00:45:14That worries me.
00:45:15And, and can we get that?
00:45:16I've talked about a baseline.
00:45:17Can you get that pressure rate under 40?
00:45:19Can you, can the, can the star running back and the best playmaker on the offense
00:45:23go again without fumbling?
00:45:25These are not big asks.
00:45:27These are boxes you can check soon, but they got to check them before I feel comfortable.
00:45:33So like, you know, like I was saying the offensive line might not get better.
00:45:40Like there's no big savior coming.
00:45:42Now they might get healthy and maybe some of the rookies take a step forward and it
00:45:46makes you feel more comfortable about them, but it's not going to get better.
00:45:52Well, no, it can get better, but it's not going to get good.
00:45:56Yeah.
00:45:56So you're waiting for it to get a little bit better.
00:46:00That's kind of where you're going to get better.
00:46:01I understand it's not going to be good and I don't need it to be good.
00:46:04I just need it to literally not be the worst in the NFL in the last seven years.
00:46:10Yeah.
00:46:10That's my ask.
00:46:11Can you not be the worst offensive line in the next gen stats era?
00:46:16Because for the people who are waiting for it to get good, like it's not going to happen
00:46:21this year and you're just never going to see Drake may.
00:46:22So if you're saying, I don't want a red shirt on, but I want the line to get good.
00:46:25Like those two things can't coexist.
00:46:28And you might as well just play Drake May.
00:46:30I think you've made it.
00:46:32Yeah.
00:46:33I've tried to be clear about this.
00:46:34I know people get this take mixed up.
00:46:36I don't need the line to be good because it's not going to be good, but can it be better?
00:46:41Does not mean good.
00:46:42It's the same thing where we talked about the best five.
00:46:44That doesn't mean good five, but they're by definition, right?
00:46:49If you have, what's a food you hate, Brian?
00:46:52What's like a generally accepted bad food?
00:46:55A bad food.
00:46:56Ooh, man.
00:46:56Yeah.
00:47:00I don't know.
00:47:04If you have, if you have three plates of crap in front of you, it's
00:47:10there has to be a best, right?
00:47:12You have pickle pizza.
00:47:14If you have, if you have pickle pizza, uh, the, the, the stupid Caesar salad pizza
00:47:21and that weird pepperoni pizza, he gets, it isn't fully covered.
00:47:25One of those has to be the best by definition.
00:47:28That's basically what I'm saying.
00:47:30Can you find your, I probably go in with the weird pepperonis.
00:47:34If that's me.
00:47:34I don't know.
00:47:35I don't want salad on a pizza.
00:47:36I don't want pickles on pizza.
00:47:38Can you find your odd shape pepperoni pizza of an offensive line?
00:47:42There you go.
00:47:43Yep.
00:47:43Someone said that.
00:47:44What the hell is a pickle pizza?
00:47:46Clearly not following Mike Cadillac on Twitter there.
00:47:51So, uh, go do that.
00:47:53But yeah, I think it's a fair point.
00:47:55That's, uh, probably where they're at.
00:47:57Like they don't want to put them out there and he's going to get killed.
00:48:00So it'll be Jacoby.
00:48:02I agree with you last week.
00:48:04I, there were signs of this, like him holding the ball and, you know, against the jets.
00:48:11And then I think it kind of really boiled over again, San Francisco last week.
00:48:15And he started turning the ball over, which again, in one of these low scoring games,
00:48:20you can't have turnovers in this week if you want to win against Miami.
00:48:24So that will be a big thing for Jacoby and Andre Stevenson as well.
00:48:29And we talked about maybe discipline on the defensive side of the ball with some of those
00:48:32guys on the edge who are being called selfish.
00:48:35Drawed Mayo was asked straight up.
00:48:37Could Antonio Gibson start over Ramond Ray Stevenson, who has fumbled four times in four
00:48:41games.
00:48:42And he said that under consideration, are you expecting that?
00:48:45And more, I think just in general, there should be more Antonio Gibson.
00:48:49He's one of their few explosive playmakers.
00:48:51And again, like limit Stevenson's workload, big picture as you know, you always like to
00:48:56talk about, but just this week with the fumbling issues, are you expecting more or less?
00:49:01I should say Ramond Ray Stevenson.
00:49:03So who starts?
00:49:07I don't want to say it's irrelevant to me.
00:49:08I think there is a message being sent in Gibson starting.
00:49:11But to me, you know, the old joke about like, you want to, you're mad at one of your fantasy
00:49:15players because he beat your team.
00:49:16So you start him in the flex instead of at his position.
00:49:19It's like a punishment, right?
00:49:21If it's Gibson starting and then Stevenson gets like five series in a row, I guess message
00:49:27sent, but it's, you sent the message and then you didn't do much.
00:49:30You know what I would do is I would still start Gibson.
00:49:33I don't mean to knock that.
00:49:34Like, I think that's the right call.
00:49:35Cause I, it's worth sending that message.
00:49:37I don't want to belittle that point.
00:49:39I actually think it's worth sending that message.
00:49:41And maybe give them like the whole first series.
00:49:44Right.
00:49:44And that's a start.
00:49:45Well, my other thing is like, what if he fumbles again?
00:49:49So we talked about this, I think on, on Monday, right?
00:49:51That they're kind of in between a rock and a hard place because they want to be run first
00:49:55offense.
00:49:55Stevenson is their best playmaker, but he also keeps turning the ball over.
00:50:00The other thing is Gibson's not a volume back.
00:50:02He never has been.
00:50:03And I don't think you can give him 20.
00:50:04It may be like this week you can, but like long-term you can't.
00:50:08And I would have Gibson and not Gibson is not known for his ball security as well either.
00:50:13So, and you can't just keep him out there fumbling with remodeling the bench.
00:50:17I would elevate Kevin Harris this week and I would kind of equally distribute it between
00:50:23Stevenson, Gibson, hasty, who actually didn't run bad last week either, but not a volume guy
00:50:28again.
00:50:28But I would equally distribute it between Stevenson, Gibson, hasty and Harris.
00:50:33And see what it looks like from there.
00:50:35And if Stevenson fumbles again, he needs to sit the rest of the game.
00:50:38That's another reason I'd elevate Harris.
00:50:39So you still have three backs.
00:50:41We're monitoring Stevenson's next fumble.
00:50:43That should be it for him for the game.
00:50:44And I'm not saying caught him or anything like that, but he's putting them in a tough spot.
00:50:48And it's not like that one last week.
00:50:50What kills me about that fumble was it's not like somebody made a great play on the ball
00:50:56and it's like, you know, tip your cap.
00:50:57Those guys get played too.
00:50:58He has the ball outside his body crossing the line of scrimmage.
00:51:00Like it's just not good ball security and he knows it.
00:51:02I don't think he's like immune.
00:51:04I don't think he's ignorant of this, but I would elevate Kevin Harris.
00:51:08I'd split it equally between four backs.
00:51:11Yep.
00:51:11Gibson's at like 29% of the offensive snaps.
00:51:15Is it that high?
00:51:16Wow.
00:51:17Oh, snaps.
00:51:18I thought you were going to say carries.
00:51:19Sorry.
00:51:19That's about right.
00:51:20That's about right.
00:51:2129% of snaps, which I think that just in general should be higher.
00:51:26Just again, because it's one of your more explosive players just in general.
00:51:31And you need that boost to the offense.
00:51:33So especially this week, you know, try to send some of that message to Andre and take him off.
00:51:39I would like to see a little more Gibson there.
00:51:42And yeah, Kevin Harris, bring him up as well.
00:51:44Could give you another kind of bruiser back that that makes sense.
00:51:48Um, yeah, as well there, but Miami.
00:51:51Oh, there you go.
00:51:52No, go ahead.
00:51:52Finish your thought.
00:51:54I was going to say like Miami's run defense has been pretty solid this year, right?
00:51:58Like they have, they got Calais Campbell.
00:52:00He's still doing his thing in the middle.
00:52:01Uh, Zach sealer is a good player, uh, in the middle there as well.
00:52:05So they might have issues running the ball and you assume as everyone does,
00:52:10they're going to stack the bots and blitz like the jets and the Niners have against this offense.
00:52:15So I don't even know how much they're going to be able to run the ball, but.
00:52:19Gibson can make a difference in the past game.
00:52:20You saw the explosive, uh, 50 yard catch.
00:52:23I know that was in garbage time last week, but that's just kind of the, uh,
00:52:26what he can bring to your offense.
00:52:28So I like more Gibson just in general there.
00:52:30Yeah, I do too.
00:52:31They also, they used a little bit of pony last week for the first time.
00:52:35Yeah.
00:52:36I'm always a pony means two running backs on the field.
00:52:38Same time to a 12 or 22 or whatever you want to call it.
00:52:41Uh, but like running backs, not a fallback.
00:52:43I'm, um, they're not 12, 21 or 22.
00:52:46Um, I'm all for 20.
00:52:47I actually really like 21 personnel.
00:52:48I think, especially the guy like Gibson, who's more advanced than the average running back
00:52:53as a pass catcher.
00:52:53I wanted them to do some time on gunnery last year.
00:52:55Um, I, that can be a good way to keep defenses off guard right now.
00:53:00They just need, even if it's just something extra to think about, even if they're not
00:53:04doing anything overly complex with it, it's something else you have to have, you know,
00:53:07keep in mind as a defense, something like that, I think would be big for them.
00:53:11Yep.
00:53:13All right.
00:53:13Lastly, on the offense, just we'll touch on the receivers very quickly.
00:53:17Kendrick Bourne was in that group who came back to practice this Wednesday.
00:53:22He seemed like the one we were saying earlier that could actually play and KJ Osborne hasn't
00:53:28practiced all week with a, with a shoulder injury.
00:53:30So maybe that, you know, that was someone you expected him his into his snaps anyway.
00:53:35And that seems like a good one for one swap there now with the injuries.
00:53:39So, uh, are you expected much from KB and kind of his first game back and just how else
00:53:44are you trying to, what else are you trying to see from the, the, the pass catchers there
00:53:47on Sunday?
00:53:49So, I mean, obviously I'm, I'm hyped to see Kendrick Bourne, you know, that's my guy.
00:53:54Um, and I, so I, that injury, I mean, that, that sucked last year cause he's playing so
00:53:59well.
00:54:00And, um, yeah, I'm, I'm excited to see him.
00:54:02I think the thing I'm most interested with, with Kendrick Bourne, obviously just like
00:54:05how he looks on the knee.
00:54:06Sometimes these things, you know, it takes an extra year to be fully healthy, but Brian,
00:54:11we've talked a lot about, can they use more pre-snap motion, more jet sweeps, more end
00:54:18arounds, like these creative scheme touch things.
00:54:20And we're kind of waiting for them to do that with pop Douglas.
00:54:24They don't seem interested in doing that at this point.
00:54:26Kendrick Bourne is a good scheme touch receiver.
00:54:28He is a guy that you just get the ball in his hands in space for the injury.
00:54:32He can make stuff happen.
00:54:34Like I come out first play jet pass, little pop pass Kendrick Bourne.
00:54:38See what that does.
00:54:39I, that would be my first play out of the gate.
00:54:41If I was Alex van Pelt on, on Sunday.
00:54:44Um, I want to see if they use them that way.
00:54:46I know he can separate down the field and I'm sure they'll use him there too.
00:54:50He's going to be in kind of a new role, right?
00:54:51He played the Z in the old offense, but I think with the way Jalen Polk is playing right now
00:54:56and the lack of production from Taekwon Thornton, I think he got to put born at the X on the
00:55:00backside and there's potential there for him.
00:55:03It's I don't think you're, I know I always rail against guys playing out of position,
00:55:07but I think in that context, born will be okay.
00:55:09That's a rare example.
00:55:10You at least give it a shot.
00:55:12Um, I'm excited to see what he can do.
00:55:14Rotate him and Polk between X and Z and enough.
00:55:17Yeah.
00:55:18For make it.
00:55:19Yeah.
00:55:19You can move them back and forth.
00:55:20That's a good point.
00:55:21Um, and then, yeah, just with Paul, can he build on that game he had last week?
00:55:24Like it should be born Polk and then they're in 11 pop.
00:55:30And that, that should, I don't need to see Taekwon Thornton.
00:55:33I don't need to see K Sean booty.
00:55:35I don't think KJ Osborne is going to be active just because it's very rare that a guy doesn't
00:55:38practice Wednesday and Thursday and is active.
00:55:40Even if he is active, I don't need to see a ton of him.
00:55:43I get everybody there.
00:55:44Um, Javon Baker, who I don't need to see Javon Baker.
00:55:48I don't even know if he's going to be active now.
00:55:50Yeah.
00:55:50Van Pelt said today, it's just like super talented, but it's the little details.
00:55:55So he's going to get Foxboro flu soon.
00:55:57That's what that sounded like.
00:55:58But, um, it should be those three.
00:56:00And that's a pretty solid receiver group.
00:56:03You got to have time to get them the ball.
00:56:04I don't mean to keep harping on it, but, uh, yeah.
00:56:08Yeah.
00:56:08Those guys can get open.
00:56:09They can create separation.
00:56:10And I think that's a big thing with KB coming back, especially, you know, as they go to
00:56:15this quick game to mask the offensive line deficiencies, it's like KJ Osborne and Taekwon
00:56:20Thornton were just wearing coverage way too often.
00:56:22And, you know, the short and intermediate areas of the field.
00:56:24And that's a part of where Kendrick Bourne can get open.
00:56:27So that'll be helpful.
00:56:29And then I want to see more of those trust deep shots to Jalen Polk from Jacoby.
00:56:34You know, they hit on one last week.
00:56:36They should have hit on to that really close one down the left sideline.
00:56:40So keep trusting him.
00:56:41That's Jalen Polk's game.
00:56:42Let him go down the sideline and try to make some plays there.
00:56:45So, um, that's offense that's defense, uh, before we wrap up with special teams and we
00:56:52will talk a little college football.
00:56:54Of course, I ought to talk to you guys about game time.
00:56:57We all love going to football games live and whether it's Gillette stadium, see the pet

00:57:35Great deal at Gillette stadium.
00:57:37I think it's going to be beautiful weather, uh, on Sunday too, as well.
00:57:41Good tailgate day.
00:57:43Let's see.

00:58:19Download game time today.
00:58:20What time is it?
00:58:21Game time.
00:58:23All right.
00:58:23Just wrap up, uh, with special teams.
00:58:26It's been a really good unit.
00:58:27We've talked a lot about it.
00:58:28Bryce Berenger, Joey slide turnover on the kickoff, uh, last week could be another one
00:58:35of those games.
00:58:35Low scoring where if you can make a big special teams player to or flip field position, that's
00:58:40going to be huge.
00:58:40So just, what do you want to see out of Jeremy Springer's unit, uh, on Sunday there?
00:58:44Yeah.
00:58:45Like you said, they, they can decide this game.
00:58:47I want to see them keep it up.
00:58:48I'm not saying that Joey sly has to hit two more 50 plus yard field goals would be nice.
00:58:53Would rather he not have to do it.
00:58:55Um, but just, you know, I think it's sustainable.
00:59:00I think it's more or less sustainable what they're doing right now.
00:59:03I, I feel like that's kind of a dumb cop out answer, but just like keep it up.
00:59:07The one thing I do wonder is, and I don't know where Tyree kills at with the dolphins
00:59:13because he seemed pissed as all hell on Monday night, but with the offense, as, as sluggish
00:59:22as it is right now, do they have Tyree?
00:59:23Do they put Tyree kill back to return punts?
00:59:26I would be considering that.
00:59:27Berrios who usually does it as baned up too, I think.
00:59:30So just, yeah, maybe not every punt, maybe in just big spots, but that's something I'd
00:59:35be preparing for from the Patriots.
00:59:36I, the dolphins might have that in their bag.
00:59:39Um, but yeah, I I'd be ready for that outside of that.
00:59:43I mean, the coverage team looked good last week against slide Behringer, like just no
00:59:47notes, no notes.
00:59:49I feel like I should say it's a special team show.
00:59:51I feel like I should have something to say, but it's, this is what good special teams
00:59:54looks like, like outside of really two blown punt coverages, which was two missed tackles
01:00:01outside of that.
01:00:02I mean, in the block, I keep forgetting about the block kick, but that was more on the offense
01:00:05for having that stupid penalty.
01:00:07Um, like they, they, they've been one of the best units in football this year.
01:00:12It's just as simple as keep that up.
01:00:13I think they can continue to do it.
01:00:15I think I said this on Monday.
01:00:16There's gonna be questions about Van Pelt and Covington and Mayo.
01:00:20I think Jeremy Springer might like, I know special teams coordinator, but like, he looks
01:00:25like he's pretty good at this and don't take that for granted.
01:00:29I know, especially without the special teams has been the last few years, right?
01:00:33It's been good.
01:00:34So school has been awesome.
01:00:35Marcellus dial has been a good gun before them.
01:00:38So, uh, that whole, that whole unit has been really good.
01:00:41So, um, keep that up.
01:00:42And speaking of punters, do you need to go on your early season victory lap?
01:00:46They're four and oh, and our fantasy punter, I meant to tweet that out to Mike.
01:00:51I saw someone in the chat ask about it.
01:00:53So I figured we should bring it up here.
01:00:55Uh, Barth is four and oh, I am the only one who is four and oh, just by picking the last.
01:01:01And I got Catholic this week.
01:01:03The CLNS standings are much better bars for no Catholics, three and one, uh, Taylor and
01:01:09I are two and two and our fan portion.
01:01:12Uh, there's one, two and two and everyone else is one in three.
01:01:15So the CLNS, uh, group is carrying the league.
01:01:19I am getting just destroyed with points against, I have 41 points against, and the next closest
01:01:24is 31.
01:01:25So I'm well, because you had.
01:01:28Mike walks through a touchdown again or through a pass against you, right?
01:01:31Yeah.
01:01:31So that, that hurt me.
01:01:32And then like every week I've been, uh, I've been getting hammered with points again.
01:01:36So do I have the most points for, um, you have 36 Catholic has 35, but you haven't had
01:01:43any punter do it like a trick play, right?
01:01:45Like 15 of his points are, I've had, I've had no 15 points one way or the other.
01:01:50Yeah.
01:01:50I have just been ones and twos.
01:01:53That's what you get for drafting Tory Taylor.
01:01:56That's just, that's how you build a team right there.
01:01:58So I, I, I feel guilty about the scoring though.
01:02:00Cause last week, Tory Taylor's like unbelievable.
01:02:03And on our scoring, he only got a point.
01:02:05I know, but there's not, there's not football.
01:02:10It doesn't even punter leagues don't reflect real football.
01:02:13Yeah.
01:02:13Cause I think, uh, Bjork was who I have, I think he had like an 80 yard touchback or
01:02:20something, which is insane.
01:02:21Like Bryce had one of those last year.
01:02:24It's like a 60 yard net, which is a great punt, but in our league, it's minus two points
01:02:29for a touchback.
01:02:30And that's all that matters.
01:02:32Next year.
01:02:32We might need to do like, if there's a way to do it, like 70 plus yard punt, you get
01:02:37some points.
01:02:37So it offsets those touchbacks, but I would be smart.
01:02:40You're drafting the coverage team too.
01:02:42That's a, you should be able to get down to an 80 yard ball.
01:02:44If you're on the coverage team, I'm just saying, what's your 40 time.
01:02:47It's like, you know what you say when you draft a receiver, you also draft their quarterback.
01:02:50Yeah.
01:02:51Yeah.
01:02:51If you draft the punter, you also draft the gunner.
01:02:55I would say that a four and a start for Bart there.
01:02:58So good start.
01:03:00Let's talk a little college ball.
01:03:02Not a great slate this weekend.
01:03:05First, well, we should first talk about Georgia, Alabama last week.
01:03:09Cause we didn't talk about that on Monday.
01:03:11Unbelievable game.
01:03:12I wish we could just draft Ryan Williams now, but unfortunately we have to wait three years.
01:03:17The old, the old Coley mixed strategy.
01:03:20Just take them in the third round.
01:03:21Tell Goodell to meet you in the parking lot.
01:03:23Tell Goodell to suck it.
01:03:24We're doing this.
01:03:24So, uh, what were your, what were your Bama, Bama, Georgia thoughts from last Friday?
01:03:32I got like emotional watching a football game.
01:03:34Cause it's just so good.
01:03:35Like, how can you not love football, man?
01:03:37This stupid sport is awesome.
01:03:39Um, and then, I mean, Virginia tech too, that game was great, but no, that's, uh,
01:03:44Ryan Williams might not even be the best receiver in his class.
01:03:46Can you imagine what we're going to do?
01:03:49Jeremiah Smith, Ryan Williams.
01:03:50If the Patriots like picking towards the top of that draft, they need a receiver.
01:03:53It's going to be a literal war between those two, but that game was fantastic.
01:03:59Uh, I hope they play again.
01:04:01I think they're two evenly matched teams.
01:04:02I think they are two of the five best teams in the country.
01:04:05Kalen DeBoer, even falling apart late.
01:04:07She get a ton of credit for having his team ready to go off the jump.
01:04:10Um, and to me, it honestly makes the playoff that much more exciting.
01:04:14Uh, this week's slate is kind of mad.
01:04:16There's some fun games.
01:04:18There's not a ton of overly consequential games, I would say, uh, in, you know,
01:04:23in terms of the draft or, or, or the playoff, the big picture.
01:04:26Um, but we got a good one last week.
01:04:28That, that was, that was one of the best regular season football games I've watched in a long
01:04:34time.
01:04:34And I would say this, I'll take my victory lap on college football is a better product
01:04:38in the NFL.
01:04:40Maybe the NFL is a more steady product, but like people point to like some of these Mac
01:04:46games, right.
01:04:47Or when you get like, you know, Alabama against Georgia state and it's a route.
01:04:52Hey, Tuesday night action is special.
01:04:54Okay.
01:04:55I love action.
01:04:56So one, sometimes those like small school games are actually really good.
01:04:59And you just don't like it.
01:05:00Cause you, I'm saying the NFL people, cause they're not sexy names and they're not draft
01:05:05prospects, but it's still all football is good football.
01:05:07Y'all.
01:05:08Um, the other thing I would say.
01:05:10Just that's how Andy Reed found Carson steel.
01:05:12Did you see that?
01:05:13He's like, he's like, I watched Tuesday night action and I just found Carson steel.
01:05:18Hell yeah.
01:05:19Um, the other thing is like the NFL put Miami, Tennessee in prime time with college football.
01:05:26There's your, there hasn't been one window this year where I'm not like, I have four
01:05:31screens going when I watch college football.
01:05:33There hasn't been one window this year where I can't feel at least three of them at once
01:05:37with a dramatic ending.
01:05:38And you just don't get the NFL.
01:05:41You have less options.
01:05:42The NFL also just feels like it's the same game over and over and over.
01:05:46There aren't that many truly unique game scripts where you get those more in college
01:05:49football.
01:05:49I still think college football is a better product.
01:05:51Maybe the NFL, it's like a higher technical level of ability, but it's so much more entertaining
01:05:56in college.
01:05:56You also have the environment of it, all the culture, the passion of it.
01:06:00That's where I'll take my victory lap on this one.
01:06:02That's what, I don't know if you listen to David Andrews's podcast, but he was obviously
01:06:06watching the game as a, uh, former bulldog.
01:06:10And he was like, after listening to bill for, you know, 10 years, he's like, I watched
01:06:15college football.
01:06:16And I'm like, man, that game just sucked because of how sloppy it is.
01:06:20And then, you know, guys are missing tackles.
01:06:21But if you just like, if you're not analyzing it and you kind of take a step back and just
01:06:26watch as a, as a fan, like that was tremendous, especially that, that Georgia game.
01:06:31So, uh, fun stuff, but yeah, not an overly fantastic slate this year.
01:06:36I don't even know our, I think both Campbell and banks are on by this week.
01:06:40Right.
01:06:40If it were on our offensive tackle watch.
01:06:42That's sound.
01:06:43That does sound right.
01:06:44Cause I'm I'll have something up hopefully tomorrow.
01:06:46I got to see if I can get it done tonight.
01:06:48If not, it'll be up Saturday on a number of draft prospects.
01:06:51We'll talk tackles.
01:06:52We'll talk receivers, some other guys.
01:06:53Um, they are, yeah, they're both off this week.
01:06:58So no tackle watch.
01:07:00Uh, you do get, uh, I know the ursery has USC at seven 30.
01:07:05That's a good game.
01:07:07Yep.
01:07:08Tet McMillan, you get Tet McMillan against Texas tech.
01:07:10Uh, actually the game of the week, Luther Byrne against Texas A&M who both are, I think
01:07:16is it Texas A&M both their corners are projected top 100 picks, but they're not draft eligible yet.
01:07:23I'm not sure.
01:07:25I forget if that's, I think that's Texas A&M.
01:07:27I know they have at least one like high-level corner, but I don't think he's draft eligible
01:07:30this year.
01:07:31Um, so you got, you know, you got a couple of games that are relevant.
01:07:34Also just start watching centers.
01:07:35Probably not a bad idea.
01:07:36I also just want to watch Ashton, uh, his boy state play this week.
01:07:40Yeah.
01:07:40Ashton Jeanty, if you're not familiar with this guy, his like over under for rushing yards
01:07:46is 191 and a half.
01:07:48And that's like a realistic number for him.
01:07:50He's 845 yards through really three and a half games.
01:07:53Cause he got benched at halftime.
01:07:54One of them was a little blowout.
01:07:55Um, so yeah, there's some guys, there's some guys to watch.
01:07:58I'll, I'll answer this.
01:08:00Um, I, I am leaning Kelvin banks right now a little bit.
01:08:04Will Campbell.
01:08:04I was looking at the numbers today.
01:08:06I'd seen them all individually, but I had it all up today.
01:08:08Five penalties this year for fall starts.
01:08:11It doesn't mean he's a bad player, but when the margins this thin, you're going to look
01:08:15at stuff like that.
01:08:16And Campbell's had a bit of a penalty problem to start the season.
01:08:19Yep.
01:08:20I watched his game against, uh, I went back with the Thursday night, the lawn weekend.
01:08:25I watched him again.
01:08:28South Carolina.
01:08:30And I mean, their edge rushers are dudes.
01:08:32Yeah.
01:08:32But the, like the arms, that's the arm length.
01:08:35That's going to be so interesting.
01:08:36Like that's the first thing that kind of stands out.
01:08:38Like, so that, that's going to be really big to watch.
01:08:41Well, so the benchmark is 33 inches.
01:08:43It used to be 34.
01:08:45And then Rashaan Slater came along and everybody was like, nope, this guy's too good.
01:08:48It's 33 now.
01:08:50Yeah.
01:08:50What?
01:08:51So he was short at the time at the time he was under what was the accepted threshold.
01:08:57But they were like, and I think it was like 35 at one point.
01:09:00And somebody came in at 34 and they were like, he was just like, unbelievable.
01:09:04So like, all right, it's 34 now.
01:09:05Then Slater came along like, all right, now it's 33.
01:09:08Um, unofficially Jim Nagy from the senior bowl has, uh, Campbell at 32 and seven eights.
01:09:15If teams are really that infatuated with them, they'll move the benchmark again.
01:09:18I don't, I don't doubt that.
01:09:20Now there'll still be questions about.
01:09:23Do you want to take him or does that put banks over him?
01:09:26But I don't think that there's, I still think there's a chance people like a
01:09:31quarter inch left tackle or the day before the combine.
01:09:34Does he have two friends stand on either side of him?
01:09:36He pulls arms as hard as they can for like 10 minutes and hope he gets an extra quarter
01:09:41inch out of that.
01:09:42It's like, uh, wasn't it like JJ McCarthy who drank a bunch of water last year to put
01:09:47on the 20 pounds or something?
01:09:48Yeah.
01:09:48Or like 20 pounds or something.
01:09:51Was it Kenny Pickett who was doing like special hand stretches?
01:09:54Yeah, because he has small hands.
01:09:56Yeah.
01:09:56So, um, we'll, we'll save that arm length talk.
01:10:01That'll be four months, probably even longer at this point from December to April or whatever.
01:10:06So we'll get in that.
01:10:06I think we're going to be getting into it.
01:10:08The people want it.
01:10:08I think we're going to be getting plenty of time to, uh, evaluate that, but let's wrap
01:10:12up, uh, very quickly.
01:10:14We'll, we'll do our prize picks, uh, of the week here.
01:10:18If I can find our banner right there.
01:10:22Um, what are we thinking?
01:10:25Who are we?
01:10:26Jacoby Brissette has his usual, uh, lineup entries.
01:10:29Do they?
01:10:30I forget.
01:10:30Is there college on there?
01:10:33I, we want to screw around with Ash and GT.
01:10:39I'm not seeing college.
01:10:41It might just be because it's on Wednesday and they do them a little later in the week.
01:10:46Oh, that makes sense.
01:10:47Yeah.
01:10:48Or it's Thursday.
01:10:49I'm all over the place with, uh, the days of the week here, but, uh, Jacoby Brissette
01:10:55158 and a half passing yards, more or less 26 and a half pass attempts.
01:11:01Uh, Jalen less on that.
01:11:03I think they're going to run the crap out of the ball.
01:11:05So 26 and a half pass attempts.
01:11:07We can go less, uh, jail.
01:11:09Or if they get behind maybe yards was yards like one 80.
01:11:13One 58 and a half.
01:11:15I still think maybe less on that.
01:11:17Then the yards.
01:11:18Yeah.
01:11:20158 and a half.
01:11:21How do you pick?
01:11:22I think they're going to run, run, run.
01:11:24So we should take one of Jacoby Brissette.
01:11:26The 26 and a half pass attempts sounds like a lot.
01:11:31All right.
01:11:31So let's go less there.
01:11:32Less there.
01:11:33Uh, Jalen Polk, 26 and a half receiving yards.
01:11:39I don't want to touch anything receiving.
01:11:41I just think they're going to, what do we have?
01:11:43Can we get like Gibson yards?
01:11:44Maybe they, maybe if Gibson plays.
01:11:46Unfortunately, everything else right now is they have just touchdowns for players.
01:11:50So Gibson touchdown, Polk touchdown, uh, remandre touchdown.
01:11:56What are they for the dolphins?
01:11:57Dolphins.
01:11:58I was liking, they have Snoop Huntley over more or less than half a interception.
01:12:05Do we think they can pick them off?
01:12:07Yeah.
01:12:07Oh yeah.
01:12:08All right.
01:12:08So we'll go more on where that just go more on Snoop Huntley over half.
01:12:16An interception Tyreek Hill, 48 and a half receiving yards.
01:12:21Uh, you go Snoop Huntley, 197 and a half pass plus rush.
01:12:27Oh, pass plus rush.
01:12:28Okay.
01:12:28Yeah.
01:12:28That, that caught me.
01:12:29Oh, his yard was 159 and a half.
01:12:32What's his rush or is it not there?
01:12:37I think he's going to run a lot.
01:12:38I mean, do, do we trust them to be better about containing the edge?
01:12:44I think they will be better this week.
01:12:46Okay.
01:12:47I think it's been such a point of emphasis that they're going to be a little bit better.
01:12:51Oh, we don't have the, the Caleb Williams square anymore, do we?
01:12:54No, unfortunately not.
01:12:57Oh, so if we're gonna do four, we have to do a real four.
01:12:59Ah, this is tough.
01:13:01We could do a TBD cause I do like Gibson's yards.
01:13:05If that gets thrown.
01:13:06All right.
01:13:06So we'll pencil and Gibson's yards.
01:13:08We'll put that in.
01:13:09Do we want to do one from another game?
01:13:10Oh, we have to do one from another game.
01:13:11Right.
01:13:11Well, we have the dolphins, so it's just two teams.
01:13:14Oh, it's teams.
01:13:16So we had, we could do that three or we could pick what's like the game of the week.
01:13:20Let's make this a thing.
01:13:21Maybe we'll repick one in like whatever the game of the week is.
01:13:25Oh, it's probably Ravens commanders, right?
01:13:28Or no, that's next week.
01:13:29It's commanders.
01:13:30Yeah.
01:13:31But that game's next week.
01:13:31That's not this week.
01:13:32It's like the Sunday night game.
01:13:34Sunday night is actually saints.
01:13:36Chiefs are saints.
01:13:37Chiefs is Monday night.
01:13:38That's a good game.
01:13:40Cowboys, Steelers, Sunday night.
01:13:43It's gotta be one good game on the slate.
01:13:45What do we do?
01:13:47Ravens, Bengals, cards, Niners, bills, bills, Texas.
01:13:51Good game.
01:13:52All bears, Panthers, Bryce, young bull.
01:13:56What do we got in bears?
01:13:57Panthers?
01:13:57Let's make a pick in the Bryce young bull.
01:14:00Bears.
01:14:02Kale Williams, 215 and a half passing yards.
01:14:0631 pass attempts.
01:14:09Uh, 236 and a half total yards.
01:14:13You can do some fantasy scores.
01:14:15Roma dunes.
01:14:17I don't know what the scoring is.
01:14:18Yeah.
01:14:18We got to figure out if those are PPR or not.
01:14:21What do they have for Dalton?
01:14:24Andy Dalton.
01:14:25Let's see.
01:14:25Let's see.
01:14:29217 and a half passing yards, 32 pass attempts, 20 pass completions,
01:14:36four and a half rushing yards.
01:14:38I kind of like the more there.
01:14:41We think the red rifle can get out and scramble for some yards.
01:14:44I would do that.
01:14:45Or even passing yards.
01:14:46I mean, they're gonna, they're gonna be chucking that thing.
01:14:49Two.
01:14:51Do they?
01:14:51Oh, wait.
01:14:52Do they have D.J. Moore?
01:14:53Do they have D.J. Moore?
01:14:54Yeah.
01:14:56What do they have for D.J. Moore?
01:14:58D.J. Moore revenge game.
01:15:0054 and a half receiving yards, four and a half receptions.
01:15:05He's had so far four and a half receptions.
01:15:07Might be the play so far this year.
01:15:10Five, six, eight.
01:15:11And then he had three last week.
01:15:14But maybe more D.J. Moore reception.
01:15:17Did you see the clip?
01:15:18The NFL shared this morning that 10 years ago, a guy named D.J.
01:15:21Moore scored a touchdown for the bears against the Panthers.
01:15:23It was like a safety.
01:15:24You had to pick six.
01:15:26No, I did not wild.
01:15:28Let's go.
01:15:29D.J. Moore receptions.
01:15:30Let's throw that in there.
01:15:31Let's have some fun.
01:15:33All right.
01:15:33That's a random one.
01:15:34But so three picks for now.
01:15:37We might add Antonio Gibson yards in there.
01:15:41We'll see.
01:15:42We tweet these out Sunday, a little before game time anyway, so you guys can follow along.
01:15:46But for now, we have Jacoby Brissett, less than 26 and a half pass attempts.
01:15:51Snoop Huntley, more than half an interception and D.J.
01:15:55Moore, more than four and a half receptions on prize picks.
01:15:59That's a five time multiplier for now.
01:16:02A $5 wins you $25.
01:16:05That should go up once we get Antonio Gibson in there.
01:16:08We'll again see his yard.
01:16:09So use code CLNS on prize picks, play $5, get $50 instantly.
01:16:14It doesn't even have to win, but we're feeling good about our lineup this week.
01:16:19So that's just extra earnings in your pocket there with prize picks.
01:16:23Again, code CLNS.
01:16:24We will again tweet that out on Sunday before kickoff if you want to play along with us.
01:16:29So thanks, everyone, for tuning in with us tonight.
