00:00There once was a legend, the legend of Elon Musk.
00:03People want to be more like you.
00:11He's one of our great geniuses and we have to protect our genius.
00:14This is Elon Musk.
00:21Today the legend is crumbling and Elon Musk has become a villain in many people's eyes.
00:27You're a super villain.
00:28That's what a super villain does.
00:31But how did that happen?
00:33In this video we are going to find out how Elon Musk went from hero to villain.
00:40For a long time Musk was an exceptional man.
00:43In the already exceptional club of billionaires he was the number one god with a cult-like
00:48following.
00:49Nobody could resist the hype.
00:51What Musk did, what did he do?
00:53He invented the electric car.
00:55That's impossible.
00:56Then he made it work.
00:58That's impossible.
00:59Elon Musk was the ultimate entrepreneur and businessman and only partially thanks to softball
01:05interviews he was a staple of every hustler's playlist.
01:09Did you think I need to pack this in?
01:11Never.
01:13Why not?
01:14I don't ever give up.
01:16The staunchest fans saw Elon Musk as the real-life Tony Stark and with that we actually
01:22agreed.
01:23After all, neither of them liked to wear the pants at home.
01:27A hapless engineer.
01:28He just looked so forlorn.
01:29Literally out of place and sad.
01:32We're going out of town.
01:33Immediately and indefinitely.
01:35Half jokes aside, Musk was also seen as a good man.
01:39Elon wanted to make the world a better place.
01:43Elon wanted to make the world a better place.
01:47He was a philanthropist, said, well, Musk himself.
01:51SpaceX, Tesla, Neuralink, Boring Company are philanthropy.
01:54And he was a successful philanthropist.
01:56One of those rare men to turn dreams into reality.
02:00Musk the visionary philanthropist who turns dreams into reality wasn't just good for Elon
02:06Musk the man, but it was vital to Elon Musk the businessman.
02:10It's through his own myth that he could attract capital and top talent.
02:15The monetization of his image is the reason why some people say it was all pure PR.
02:21Call me naive, but I like to think there was more to it.
02:24And there was some truth behind it.
02:27Overhyped aside, Musk is an exceptional man.
02:30And I think he truly wanted to make the world a better place.
02:34Yes, he has a penchant for what's most dazzling and lucrative.
02:38But hey, he still worked to make the world better.
02:42And if he made billions along the way, good for him.
02:46There were even more reasons to love Mr. Musk.
02:49He was a role model leading the way for more philanthropists and givers.
02:53Like in this interview.
02:54Try to be useful.
02:57Do things that are useful to your fellow human beings, to the world.
03:01That's the attitude that made people think, wow, what a great man.
03:06Musk of old was also extremely likable.
03:09He came across as human, empathetic and honest.
03:12See, for example, how he reacted to criticism from these old pioneering astronauts.
03:18You know, there are American heroes who don't like this idea.
03:23Neil Armstrong, Gene Cernan have both testified against commercial spaceflight
03:29and the way that you're developing it.
03:30And I wonder what you think of that.
03:32I was very sad to see that because those guys are, yeah, you know,
03:37those guys are heroes of mine, so it's really tough.
03:39There was the perfect, perfect use of vulnerability.
03:43You just could not help but empathize and like the guy.
03:47It's no wonder so many people love this man.
03:50So Musk is flying.
03:52What could ever go wrong?
03:54Well, along the way, he became a Twitter power user.
03:58Critics say that his true personality is still showing.
04:02His fans made excuses and some people say it was stress or ambient side effects.
04:08Whatever the reason, it did change.
04:10Not in a good way and his reputation suffered.
04:14For example, take the market manipulation tweets.
04:17The way I see it, this is not about being critics or supporters.
04:22It's just that it's really, really difficult to not consider at least the possibility
04:28of market manipulation on both Tesla and Dogecoin.
04:32Then there was the unfortunate pedo insult.
04:36And the insult itself was truly the smallest issue there.
04:39It's the full story that made Musk look really bad in my eyes.
04:43As if he was posturing for limelight while adding no real value and only creating useless noise.
04:51Considering that many lives were at stake in a world-shocking tragedy,
04:55it all looked in really, really poor taste.
04:59Musk attacks and ridicule of fellow entrepreneurs also came across as nasty and childish.
05:06Attacking Bezos when Bezos is also working on a similar problem
05:10does not come across as very philanthropic, does it?
05:14Instead, it's a behavior more in line with someone seeking monopoly, personal glory or both.
05:21Musk also started stepping into the political fray and it wasn't always level-headed.
05:27And then, of course, there was the 44 billions move.
05:31Yes, after an endless back and forth worthy of an 80s telenovela, Musk bought Twitter.
05:37Going into it, Musk's reputation was still solid
05:40and he was able to frame it as a move for liberty and freedom of speech.
05:45His keyword was speech absolutist.
05:48And frankly, every time I hear somebody going into a virtuous extreme, I smell well.
05:56Where's the poop, Robin?
05:58More Machiavellian folks may say that Musk was consciously manipulating the masses.
06:02But I believe he was instead lying to himself, first and foremost.
06:07And he was failing to peek into his own darker side.
06:11But here is the thing about failing to recognize your own darker side.
06:16It will not disappear just because you don't look at it.
06:20As a matter of fact, it may only grow bigger.
06:23And soon after Musk took over Twitter, guess what?
06:27Free speech wasn't so absolute after all.
06:30What is absolute is that Twitter purchase is absolutely bad news for Musk,
06:36at least in these early days.
06:38Musk's image of the business golden goose is getting shattered
06:42and his growingly erratic and divisive approach isn't helping any.
06:47A large social media benefits from a more neutral and balanced leadership.
06:53But Musk seems unable to provide it.
06:56Talking about leadership, even simply at a personal level,
07:00I for one found it so annoying that he's put his own tweets on my own homepage.
07:06I don't want to see his memes.
07:08And most of all, I don't want to see his endless tweets.
07:12In my eyes, that's what's ruining his reputation the most.
07:15It's his everyday tweets.
07:17That guy is always there.
07:19How do you even talk about 100-hour work weeks when you are constantly tweeting nonsense?
07:26How can you be the world's biggest problem solver
07:29when people lost memory of you is an endless stream of memes?
07:34Also, I can't help but think,
07:36bro, you got like 10 children.
07:38If you're chasing big missions, okay, you may have to sacrifice family.
07:43But if you gotta spend all your time on Twitter,
07:46how about giving those boys a father?
07:48Many of Elon's tweets aren't just stream of consciousness as he calls it,
07:53they feel to me like really, really childish.
07:56Take his obsession with X69 and 420 for example.
08:01X and 420 are especially infantilizing in my book
08:05if you consider that Elon Musk doesn't even know how to smoke pot.
08:09You know how it feels like?
08:11It feels like your teenager friend who always talks about pussies and dick sizes
08:16and you think, why the hell can't he talk normal?
08:20And then you realize, oh yeah, right,
08:22it's because he's a virgin and he tries too hard to hide it.
08:28Uh, could you like describe the porn to us?
08:31Yeah, yeah, yeah, come on.
08:34I think we're all done here.
08:35I'm gonna go ahead and send you boys back to your teachers now.
08:38Yeah, Elon Musk sounds like that with his 420s, 69s and penis-shaped rockets.
08:45Finally, I am sorry to say this,
08:47but to me he also comes across as a bit cowardly and weak.
08:51And that's because of the contrast between his real-life persona and his tweeting one.
08:56When he speaks in real life, he's balanced and respectful.
09:00I love the Elon Musk.
09:03But giving him a phone with a Twitter app and behind the screen,
09:06he suddenly morphs into a different persona,
09:10including a nastier and more aggressive persona.
09:13Speaking of aggressive, sure, many would love to see him fight Mark Zuckerberg.
09:18But is this the best that we can get from the man who should make us an interplanetary species?
09:24I am glad Zuckerberg is ignoring that,
09:27which, again, makes Musk look rather poor.
09:37Take it all together and Musk's reputation is tanking at many different levels.
09:42His finances are also tanking.
09:45And we do not say this happily.
09:47This is bad news for all of us.
09:49When great men with great potential waste time and money, we all lose.
09:55We do need more value-adding men in this world,
09:59especially when they're as capable as Elon Musk.
10:02And we want Musk to do well.
10:05What are the solutions then?
10:06Number one, Musk must fix X to shore up his finances or cut his losses.
10:12Number two, he must stop tweeting so much.
10:16That is an easy fix because Musk does great in interviews.
10:20It's mostly on Twitter that he tanks.
10:22And three, huge bonus points if he learns basic power dynamics.
10:28So he can wear the pants at home, gain more respect from other men,
10:32and deploy better social strategies to improve his reputation.
10:37Luckily, all of that is possible.
10:39And we are experts at number three.
10:41So if you like to gain more respect and a better reputation,
10:44you may be interested in what Power University has to offer.
