00:00I wish I could actually show you how it feels to sit down and start gaming on this, ROG's
00:05brand new 1440p 360Hz gaming monitor.
00:12This is actually a pretty incredible monitor because while there are faster displays out
00:17there, you know 480, even 500Hz are coming out, they're all 1080p, they're all 24, 25
00:22inch full HD.
00:23This is the first 1440p 27 inch 360Hz.
00:29In fact, this ROG PG27AQN, catchy name as always, is the world's fastest 1440p eSports
00:37gaming monitor.
00:38The fastest response time of any 1440p monitor, there's a G-Sync module with an NVIDIA Reflex
00:44Analyzer tool so you can test your system latency and we even have specific eSports
00:48overdrive modes and a G-Sync eSports picture mode.
00:52This is next level gaming.
00:53Brightness also tops out at 400 nits for SDR and 600 for HDR so it is DisplayHDR 600
00:59certified.
01:00Round the back we get 3 HDMI 2 ports, although sadly they're not 2.1 so this isn't going
01:04to be the best option out there for consoles.
01:07And that's alongside a display port, a couple of USB-A's and a headphone jack.
01:10And it's all nicely squeezed into this pretty typical looking ROG design with some GoFaster
01:15AuraSync lighting on the back, a few shortcut buttons, this joystick to control the OSD
01:20and while the stand is reassuringly metal and pretty beefy, the rest of it is all a
01:24bit plasticky.
01:26And all in, we're looking at about £1100 for this which is an awful lot of money and
01:30actually £300 more than the 1440p 240Hz model.
01:35Now at this level, fast response times, low latency and high refresh rates are all equally
01:40important which is why I've forgone my clean cable-free setup in favour of wired peripherals
01:46because I want this system latency to be as low as possible.
01:49I also turn on Nvidia Reflex or Reflex Boost if available in games that support it like
01:53Overwatch 2 and Warzone.
01:55Plus with this overclocked ROG Strix RTX 1490 GPU and this Ryzen 7950X CPU, I can't really
02:02get much more of a powerful PC to max out that 360Hz refresh which at 1440p is obviously
02:08much more demanding than 1080.
02:10You can tell I'm not a proper pro gamer as I still like to have my graphics settings
02:14on high where possible.
02:15I remember years ago when playing PUBG, you'd turn everything to low which would obviously
02:19boost your frame rate but also in some cases remove textures or trees so you could actually
02:22see people hiding.
02:26But the question is, why would any pro esports gamer actually consider 1440p?
02:30What's the advantage?
02:32Well firstly, 1080p at 27 inches looks a bit rough when you can actually see individual
02:36pixels so the higher resolution makes this bigger display size more feasible.
02:41Nvidia have also carried out some studies that suggest when taking shots at small targets,
02:46a 27 inch 1440p display versus a 25 inch 1080 can help improve your aim by up to 3%.
02:55Which doesn't sound like a lot but at this level, or in fact if you consider any pro
02:59athlete if they were given the opportunity to be 3% better at what they do, of course
03:04you'd take it.
03:05Although unless there is an over 30s esports league, which there should be by the way,
03:09I'm not actually sure if I can physically take full advantage of this.
03:13I might be too old.
03:14Okay, so this could be the most boring thing you've ever seen on YouTube or it could be
03:18kind of an interesting test.
03:19I wanted to find out if the refresh rate makes any difference to my skills.
03:24So we're in Covax here on Steam.
03:26I'm going to go between 120, 240 and 360 hertz to see if I get better.
03:31So game visuals in G-Sync Esports, we'll put Overdrive into Esports as well.
03:36Okay, 120 hertz.
03:38Let's see what I can do.
03:41Not a bad start.
03:42We may have to go to montage or else this is going to get really boring.
03:452, 1, let's get a couple more.
03:49Ah no!
03:50Final score, 67 and a half thousand score, 64 kills.
03:54Let's try 240.
03:55Let's see if I can beat that score.
03:57Does feel smoother.
03:58I can definitely tell the difference between 120 and 240.
04:02You won't be able to in this video because it's a 60 hertz video.
04:04Oh!
04:05Hey, look at that.
04:0772,000.
04:0866 kills.
04:09And finally, 360 hertz.
04:12Let's go.
04:13Boom.
04:15It's not quite the same jump as 120 to 240, but I can feel it.
04:20And of course the latency of your PC with your mouse and keyboard and your display as
04:24well all adds into this.
04:2685,000!
04:27Wow!
04:2872 kills.
04:29So apparently, I am better at higher refresh rates.
04:35I thought I would be.
04:36So for me, the jump from 120 or 144 to 240 hertz is pretty noticeable.
04:40And I think I can even feel the difference going up to 360, although of course it's
04:44much more subtle.
04:45But beyond that, I honestly don't think I would be able to tell.
04:49It's very much a case of diminishing returns.
04:51So for me, admittedly I'm not an esports gamer, but it makes sense to stop at 360 but
04:56then increase the resolution.
04:57I would much rather game on a 1440p 27 inch.
05:00And in most games, my 4090 setup, even at 1440p, I was comfortably hitting over 360,
05:06CSGO, Overwatch 2, Fortnite, Siege, Valorant, easy.
05:10Although Warzone, PUBG and Apex are a little bit more demanding.
05:13So with high settings, I wasn't able to quite get those super silky smooth frames.
05:22Also remember that in the handful of games that support DLSS 3 with the 40 series, PUBG
05:26is not one, and that adds frame generation tech to the mix, you're going to want to
05:30turn that off.
05:31I know Flight Sim has the option to turn frame gen off specifically because while that does
05:35boost your frame rate, it comes at the cost of higher latency.
05:37And at this level, you don't want that.
05:40And speaking of system latency, if you open up the on-screen display, you can see we have
05:44this NVIDIA Reflex Latency Analyzer.
05:47You can turn that on and when you click your mouse, you can basically see in milliseconds
05:51what your PC's latency is.
05:53And the lower the number, the better.
05:54I'm looking at between 20 and 30 milliseconds, which is good.
05:58But ROG say with the right setup, you could see as low as 10 milliseconds of system latency.
06:03Also impressively, there was minimal ghosting or issues even with Esports Overdrive mode
06:07on, which I would definitely recommend using.
06:10There is also a nifty Dual Format 25-inch mode, which might be a requirement of some
06:15competitions.
06:16And also don't underestimate the impact of the jump from 1080 to 1440, which pretty much
06:21every other Esports or Pro display is, on how taxing it is for your system.
06:27You're going to need a very beefy rig behind it if you're going to play AAA games maxed
06:31out, although maybe you wouldn't do maxed out settings, but to get close at 360Hz refresh.
06:36The thing is, as soon as I saw the word Esports in the name of this monitor, I knew it wasn't
06:41really for me.
06:42I'm a pretty average, basic gamer.
06:44But having said that, I genuinely think it has made me better.
06:46And actually, as I've been using this over the last few days, I've been progressively
06:49getting better and better.
06:50Almost like I'm training my body and my reactions to keep up with this display.
06:55The high refresh and low response time lets me see the bad guys sooner, allowing me to
06:59react quicker.
07:00And then with the minimal system latency, or how long your mouse and keyboard and then
07:04PC and then your monitor can receive your input, that's all kept to a minimum as well.
07:09Does it make me a pro-level gamer?
07:11Well, I'll let you be the judge.
07:13Really, this is overkill for most of us.
07:23And at £1,100, it's pricey.
07:25Save £300 and get the 1440p 240Hz model.
07:29That's a better bet.
07:30Unless, pro gaming really is your career or your passion, you have the beefy rig to back
07:34it up and you want the best of the best.
07:37Thank you so much for watching guys.
