00:00What's up guys, today we'll be comparing the Galaxy Note 10 Plus to the S23 Ultra.
00:06Will this be enough to get Note 10 Plus users to upgrade?
00:09We're going to find out.
00:11So let's go ahead and talk about the price first.
00:13So without any trade-ins or any deals like that, this phone, the S23, is going to cost
00:19you around $1,200, you know, after tax, close to $1,300.
00:24The Note 10 Plus, it will cost you a little bit under $300, actually, in the used refurbished
00:29marketplace, just like this one, and I'll have that linked down below for you guys.
00:34And let's go ahead and dive in here.
00:36So the first thing that stands out is the designs of these two phones.
00:40Look at how well the Note 10 Plus has aged.
00:43Still looks really good.
00:44This is Samsung or Glow color that they never brought back, which I think a lot of people
00:48like.
00:49It just attracts a lot of people's eyes when I bring it out in public.
00:52It's a very nice looking design.
00:54I think it's aged really well for just the age of this phone.
00:57I think it still looks extremely clean compared to the S23 Ultra, even.
01:02So one of the things you'll notice instantly is that the S23 Ultra, it is noticeably a
01:08little bit thicker, but also it's really just, you'll notice the heaviness of this device
01:13since it has a much larger battery in it.
01:16Also, when it comes to the hardware here, you can see some slight differences.
01:20So at the bottom, your S Pen is located on the left-hand side on the S23, and then the
01:27Note 10 Plus, it's on your right-hand side.
01:30And then also your button cutouts.
01:32So you can see there's nothing on the Note 10 Plus.
01:35Your power button, volume rockers.
01:37But then on the left-hand side, the buttons are on the Note 10 Plus as well, too.
01:43Both these phones are IP68 dust and water resistant as well, so you can get them wet.
01:47They won't break instantly.
01:49But I think it's pretty awesome how just really nice the Note 10 Plus design is all these
01:55years later.
01:56I think it just shows that this phone was kind of a futuristic design when it came out.
02:00Also, one thing that you might like with the S23 Ultra is that it does have a matte finish
02:05on here, so you virtually will get no fingerprints on this device.
02:09And you guys can just see the camera, how big the cameras have gotten over the years.
02:15Just massive, and obviously there's more cameras.
02:19So yeah, I do really like the designs on both of these guys.
02:21What do you guys think?
02:22All right, so let's go ahead and talk about the display.
02:25So if I didn't say anything, you wouldn't know which one was which, right?
02:30Because they look pretty much identical.
02:31I'm looking at them color-wise, they look pretty much identical.
02:35There's very slight differences here, but there are actually some really nice screen
02:39upgrades, but it really depends on the person if it's actually enough.
02:43So again, the futuristic design of the Note 10 Plus, it looks exactly the same.
02:48So let's just go over the specs real quick here.
02:50The S23 Ultra has a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED display, it's 120Hz HDR10+.
02:57It gets up to 1750 nits peak brightness.
03:00So basically, this phone is much brighter than the Note 10 Plus outdoors, which is definitely
03:05a plus.
03:06It's 1440p 500 for the PPI.
03:09The Note 10 Plus also has a 6.8-inch display, it's Dynamic AMOLED HDR10+, but it does not
03:15have any type of 120Hz or high refresh rate.
03:18It's 1440p 498 for the PPI.
03:22Basically when you just look at both screens, watching YouTube content, playing games, they
03:28pretty much look identical in terms of the screen quality.
03:32Where you see the big difference is with these two phones is the 120Hz.
03:37So basically the S23 Ultra just feels much smoother when you're scrolling, bouncing in
03:43and out of applications.
03:45That's when you really feel like the upgrade here.
03:48Now the Note 10 Plus has a 60Hz display, which is actually very smooth for 60Hz, but 120Hz
03:54is one of those things that you have to try, so I would recommend just going to a store
03:57and Best Buy.
03:59See if 120Hz is something that you would like.
04:01I think once you try it, you probably would never want to go back to 60Hz, but definitely
04:07that's the big difference there is that it's brighter and overall has the 120Hz.
04:13Also it's not as aggressively curved as the Note 10 Plus as well too, which is something
04:17that you may or may not like.
04:20I do like the curved look a lot, but I get why Samsung did this for accidental touches.
04:26So again, it's still, they both curve, but the S23 is not as aggressively curved.
04:32But as far as the screen, I mean the Note 10 Plus still has a fantastic screen.
04:37It really comes down to how much do you use your phone outdoors, brightness, bright situations,
04:42is it bright enough, and also do you want the 120Hz.
04:46Alright guys, let's talk about the specs a little bit more here because this is a significant
04:52upgrade if you are a power user.
04:55So the Note 10 Plus, it does run Android 12 when you are 4.1, that was the last major
05:00OS update.
05:01This phone is currently going to get a few years of security patches.
05:05And then the S23 Ultra is running the latest Android 13 when you are 5.1 and it will have
05:12a pretty long lifespan, getting 4 major OS updates and 5 years of security patches.
05:17So this phone is going to last a very, very long time.
05:20So as you can see, the difference with the processors here.
05:23So we're running the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and it is for Galaxy, so it's slightly higher
05:29clock speed on the S23.
05:31And then the Adreno 740, no SD card support.
05:35The base model is 256, 8GB.
05:37This is a 512, 12GB model.
05:41And then you do have on the Note 10 Plus, this is something that I really like.
05:45So the Note 10 Plus actually kind of wins in this area.
05:48So it has 256GB of internal storage and then it also has 12GB of RAM and that's the base
05:53model.
05:54So that is really awesome, that's something that I really like.
05:57They really need to have a 12GB version base model only for the S23 Ultra, honestly for
06:02the money that you pay.
06:04But the Note 10 Plus does have SD card support.
06:08So basically, the SD card support, you're able to have expandable storage, which means
06:13you have overall more storage if you take a lot of videos or you download a lot of content.
06:18The Note 10 Plus will have more storage.
06:21So that is something that I really do like, it's definitely something to consider.
06:24Again, you take a lot of video, watch a lot of content.
06:27As far as the daily experience with these two phones here, it's not a big difference
06:33as far as the speed is concerned.
06:38The S23 Ultra is definitely faster, but you can see, it's pretty much, for the casual
06:44user experience, you're not really going to notice too much of a difference when it comes
06:47to speed actually.
06:48You got to see how close these actually are in terms of just opening applications, stuff
06:55like that.
06:58It really does feel pretty much on par with each other.
07:01Again, you will tell that difference with scrolling, 120Hz versus 60Hz.
07:07But as far as your general opening applications and stuff like that, you're really not going
07:13to see too much of a speed increase, honestly here.
07:18Now, let's go ahead and launch something a little bit heavier like PUBG here.
07:23So if you're a hardcore gamer, obviously the newer phone is going to do a better job with
07:29gaming performance overall.
07:32It's just going to be more consistent with running frame rates and stuff like that.
07:37But surprisingly, the Note 10 Plus, still, all these years later, with the Snapdragon
07:42855 chip on here and the Adreno 640.
07:47So basically, in a game like PUBG here, we're actually running the same settings.
07:53So both these phones play at HDR Extreme.
07:56Currently right now, there's no 90 frames option for the S23 Ultra, I'm sure it might
08:01get updated.
08:03But it's very, very smooth, holds 90 frames, doesn't really get hot when gaming, which
08:09is also, I think, a huge plus.
08:12It's a very, very smooth and efficient gaming experience as well too.
08:16So that's something that I really like.
08:17But if you guys check out my gaming test for the Note 10 Plus, it does an excellent job
08:22with gaming.
08:23It's actually pretty incredible.
08:25It does HDR Extreme as well too.
08:27And again, like I said, the Snapdragon 855 chip on here, it's still very, very smooth.
08:32So check out the full gaming test if you want to see this more in detail.
08:36But the casual gamer is not going to notice, I think, a massive difference.
08:41Like I said, if you're not a super serious gamer, you're not going to notice a big difference
08:45with gaming because it literally plays on the same settings.
08:49Yeah, but it's just like, yeah, the S23 Ultra, it does going to have a smoother gaming experience
08:56because it has a newer chip.
08:57So frame rates are going to be, it just feels a little bit smoother and consistent.
09:01But for the average person, I don't think you're going to notice a difference too much
09:05at all.
09:06That's how good the Note 10 Plus does.
09:08You can definitely feel the smoothness a little bit.
09:12It is definitely a little bit smoother.
09:15But in general, like I said, guys, your gaming experience is not going to be that much different
09:21if you're not like a hardcore gamer or something like that.
09:23You really, really won't feel the difference, honestly, unless you play a game that's compatible
09:29with the high refresh rate.
09:32I just don't see people noticing too much of a difference.
09:35So that's why I like these old flagship phones because they're still very powerful and they
09:40last a long time when it comes to performance for the average person, I think.
09:45All right, guys, let's check out the speaker quality on both these phones.
09:50The S23 Ultra does have a nice speaker upgrade that Samsung did, unlike the S22 Ultra, which
09:56had terrible speakers compared to the Note 10 Plus.
09:59Let's go ahead and play them side by side.
10:00Max volume, both Dolby Atmos.
10:40So you can almost instantly tell the S23 Ultra is just a fuller sound, heavier bass, overall
10:59just slightly louder.
11:01Note 10 Plus is still pretty impressive sound quality.
11:05It's not too far off, but you can definitely tell immediately.
11:07It is noticeable.
11:08So I'm really happy about the nice speaker upgrade this year with the S23 Ultra.
11:13As far as your other additional features here, they pretty much have the same thing going
11:19on pretty much as far as all the bells and whistles.
11:22Under the display fingerprint sensor is here on both of these devices.
11:25They pretty much feel the same.
11:27You also have face unlock.
11:29Both these phones also have basically the same features as far as Samsung desktop support,
11:33reverse wireless charging.
11:36Basically all the software features are here.
11:38When it comes to the S Pen, the quality of the S Pen, it pretty much feels like you feel
11:46the difference.
11:47So I will say that.
11:48If you're into digital artwork, you will feel the difference.
11:51The S23 does feel pretty much instant and it just feels really, really instant.
11:59I think that has a lot to do with the 120Hz display.
12:02It's making it feel a lot smoother when drawing and stuff like that.
12:06But the Note 10 Plus still feels great.
12:08They're both really good for digital artwork still.
12:11But yeah, so if you're a big fan of the stylus, you will notice it does feel a little bit
12:16more smoother and a little bit more instant on the S23 Ultra.
12:22But as far as the software features and all that good stuff, it's basically the same thing.
12:29Basically nothing you can't do with the S Pen.
12:31You can pretty much do the same thing with the S23 Ultra.
12:34There's no big difference.
12:36Alright, so here is the, I think the biggest difference between these two phones here.
12:41So the Note 10 Plus has a triple camera setup.
12:44It's a 12MP standard and a 12MP telephoto.
12:48It has 2x optical zoom.
12:50And then you also have a 16MP ultrawide and a 0.3 depth sensor as well.
12:55And it goes up so you can see 10x digital zoom.
12:58And then it has a 10MP selfie cam that has 4K 60.
13:04The S23 Ultra is basically like on steroids.
13:08It's 200MP camera for the main lens, 10MP periscope telephoto, 10x optical zoom, 10MP
13:17telephoto lens, 3x optical zoom, and then a 12MP ultrawide.
13:23It also has a macro mode, 8K 30, and then you also have a 12MP selfie cam that shoots
13:29in 4K 60.
13:31This phone is also able to go up to 100x zoom, and the zoom capabilities of the S23 Ultra
13:37is pretty incredible.
13:39So that's one thing that if you go to like sporting events and stuff like that, the 10x
13:43zoom is pretty crazy.
13:45You get extremely high quality shots, but also 30x is pretty good as well too.
13:50And like I said, it just has the beefier numbers.
13:53It takes higher resolution shots.
13:54It takes better low light shots.
13:57So I would say if you're into cameras, I think this is a pretty solid upgrade, but
14:01I took a bunch of side-by-side stills so you guys can see for yourself, do you guys think
14:05this is worth the upgrade here?
14:07So if you're not into the zoom and all the cameras and stuff like that, side-by-side
14:12stills, what do you guys think?
14:57Here's the video on the Note 10 Plus here.
15:08Can you guys tell the difference here?
15:12Let me know.
15:15And 1080p 60, I can only do 1x on this phone.
15:23But what do you guys think?
15:24Pretty good.
15:30Alright guys, here's just a little test footage of the S23 Ultra here for the video.
15:38The 3x, 10x, as you can see, just look at the detail, it's really, really nice.
15:51Very, very impressive.
15:52And we do have a 0.6 on here as well too.
15:56So just awesome image quality here, man.
16:02Alright, lastly let's touch on the battery life experience because this could be pretty
16:06important for you guys as well too.
16:08So the S23 Ultra does have a bigger battery size.
16:13It's a 5000mAh battery, 45W charging, wireless and reverse wireless charging.
16:18The Note 10 Plus does have a 4300mAh battery, 45W charging as well, so they both charge
16:24at the same speeds.
16:25And then it also has the wireless and reverse wireless charging.
16:28Surprisingly, for the first year, the battery life is improving on the Samsung's flagships
16:34because I did a battery drain test with the Note 10 Plus compared to the S22 Ultra, the
16:39S21, they were virtually the same, the Note 20 Ultra.
16:43They're all getting around 6 hours of screen on time.
16:46You are getting better battery life on the S23 Ultra, which is very, very nice.
16:51So it's actually really nice thanks to the Snapdragon 8Gen 2 processor on here.
16:56Just this phone being more efficient, so you are getting better battery life.
17:00So I'm really happy about that.
17:02Like I said, my Note 10 Plus, it can last me pretty much all day around 6 hours of screen
17:06on time, but you definitely get like a day and a half if you're a light user on this
17:10phone easily, if not more on the S23 Ultra.
17:14So if you're looking for a pretty nice battery upgrade, I think it's a pretty solid upgrade.
17:19So in general, guys, we can see that these phones are very, very close.
17:23I think it comes down to really the cameras and the, I would say the cameras and if you're
17:30a hardcore gamer, the chipset.
17:35But other than that, the Note 10 Plus, you can see it's still lasting.
17:38Also you get more major OS updates with the S23 Ultra as well too.
17:42That's something to consider.
17:44But man, the Note 10 Plus is still a very good phone that you can pretty much hold and
17:49it still goes head to head with the S23.
17:52So be sure to let me know what you guys think and I'll catch you guys in the next one.
