00:00If you're just joining us, the breaking news of the last 10-15 minutes or so is that Brock
00:09Purdy, who went out to throw today in practice and then left halfway through the session,
00:16will not speak to reporters.
00:18Thursday is the day that the starting quarterback speaks to reporters.
00:23Now Brandon Allen and Josh Dobbs will not speak to the media either.
00:27No quarterback will.
00:29And so the only way we can translate that now, I think, Dibbs, is to say that the 49ers
00:36right now don't know who their quarterback is going to be on Sunday.
00:39Right.
00:40Their starter couldn't make it through a practice, which happened yesterday too.
00:43He didn't throw.
00:44Today he tried to throw.
00:46He went through a couple of sessions and then he stopped throwing.
00:48And I would imagine he stopped throwing because the shoulder wasn't feeling great.
00:52And so he goes off the field and Allen and Dobbs finish up the session as QB1 and QB2
00:59for the day.
01:00And then you go into the locker room and you don't know the status.
01:02And so you're not just going to throw Brock out there coming off an injured practice,
01:07a Wednesday limited, a Thursday he didn't complete.
01:10And so you don't really know.
01:12How can you know until you see what Brock looks like tomorrow?
01:15And when he comes in tomorrow for the last practice before you get into your Saturday
01:20walkthrough and get ready for the game, you'll know tomorrow when he walks in if he's going
01:24to be able to get ready and go or if you're going to have to go to plan B.
01:28The Niners told reporters on the scene that Brock is in the middle of receiving treatment
01:34on the shoulder and so will not make the press conference.
01:37They did not say specifically, we don't know who our quarterback is going to be, but that
01:42Brock needed treatment.
01:43Now it's interesting because 24 hours ago Brock was at practice in a quote limited fashion
01:49but did not throw.
01:51And Kyle Shanahan was asked, what's your concern level?
01:53This is what he said yesterday.
01:57Not much right now.
01:58We'll see how this week goes, but it's limited today.
02:00So I think that's good news.
02:01Okay.
02:02Do you remember we went through this yesterday?
02:04We went through this yesterday and I feel like there's three ways that could have been
02:08answered and Kyle answered it the middle way.
02:12There's the, no, not concerned about it at all.
02:15Then there's the, no, there's some concern.
02:17It's pretty sore in there.
02:19Now he ends up saying it's a good sign he went through a limited portion, but I'm focused
02:25on the first two seconds of this bite.
02:28Are you concerned about Brock?
02:31Not much right now.
02:32See how this week goes, but it's limited today.
02:35So I think that's good news.
02:36That um and pause to me, and I remember saying this to you yesterday, that um and pause meant
02:43there's a thought that went through his head at least of like, I'm not a hundred percent
02:48sure.
02:49Right.
02:50And he, he ums a lot.
02:52He starts most of his answers with a good, healthy um.
02:55But not a pause and an occasional as well.
02:59But yeah, anyway, the um and the pause, you're right.
03:01And then, but then he goes on to say, no, not that much today.
03:05And by today he means Wednesday.
03:07And so yeah, we'll see how tomorrow goes.
03:09And today didn't go well.
03:10It did not go well.
03:11It didn't go well because he was unable to go out there and actually complete a session.
03:16And if it is Brandon Allen, his last start was January 9th, 2022.
03:21So we're coming up on almost three years since he started a football game.
03:25He was a Bengals and he took on Cleveland in the last game of the year.
03:30And he went 15 to 29 for a buck 36.
03:32How'd it go?
03:33Who won the game?
03:34They lost.
03:35Cleveland beat Cincinnati.
03:36But that was the last time he started.
03:37He started one game in 2021.
03:40And since then, he's been a backup and a backup who doesn't play.
03:45Yeah, it, I mean, wow.
03:49Even if Nick Bosa plays, he's dealing with a couple of obliques.
03:54And if you have your backup quarterback and you're already down your wide receiver and
03:58your top tight end is coming back off an injury, that's a big ask to go in there and get this
04:04done.
04:05Lucas, will you take down the tweet that you sent where I said that this is the biggest
04:08game of Brock Ferdy's career?
04:09Just take it down.
04:10It's getting a lot of interaction.
04:11Leave it up.
04:12Leave it up.
04:13Play.
04:14We don't know that.
04:15There's a good chance.
04:16Failure.
04:17There's a chance.
04:19Actually, you know what?
04:20Keep it up.
04:21Keep it up.
04:22Because here's why.
04:23Here's why.
04:24Ready for the new radio host take?
04:25It is the biggest game of Brock Ferdy's career because if Brandon Allen goes out there and
04:29wins it, watch what happens to the conversation the next week.
04:34Quarterback controversy.
04:35Oh, hey.
04:37You mean Brandon Allen can go beat Green Bay?
04:40He's a system quarterback.
04:41But Brockie Poo can't even beat a divisional opponent.
04:44No.
04:45But Brandon Allen can go to Lambeau and win a game?
04:49Well, the other side of it is Brandon Allen goes there and he stinks to high heaven and
04:53you get motorboated.
04:55Then it then you look at Brock Ferdy and you go, yeah, turns out, Brock, you're the man.
05:00I'll tell you this.
05:01Like, I'll give you an example of what you're talking about right now to me is the Miami
05:04Dolphins.
05:05I thought this year like no quarterback has shown his value more than Tua.
05:10Tua's making 52 million or that was the new contract.
05:14And a lot of people were like, damn, Tua?
05:17Is Tua actually that good?
05:19I don't know where Tua sits in the framework of the whole NFL.
05:22I certainly know where he sits in the Dolphins quarterback room.
05:26Good God, the team can't even move the ball four yards without him.
05:30But when he's in there, they're a legitimate team.
05:33They play football and score touchdowns and the whole bit.
05:36But Tyreek Hill and Jalen Waddell, you took Tua out and the two of them were looking at
05:40each other like, do you want to go get a bite to eat?
05:44Like there's no point in us even being on the field.
05:47So Tua really showed his value and sure, that could happen too.
05:51That could happen too.
05:52Maybe the 49ers won't even get a first down this week in Green Bay.
05:55Yeah, that might be a little dramatic, but you're right.
05:58I mean, if Brandon Allen comes in after almost three years of inactivity as a starter, January
06:04of 2022, so you're talking about a full 34 months since he started.
06:11And this is different than Sam Darnold too.
06:13I mean, Sam Darnold's better than Brandon Allen and even Darnold didn't get a chance
06:17to start last year until the last game of the year.
06:20And he was okay.
06:21I mean, wasn't that great?
06:22Not even really mad.
06:23Not even a real football game.
06:24It was two against two.
06:25That was a preseason football game.
06:26No doubt.
06:27And so this game is a little bit more of a real football game where Green Bay is playing
06:31for a lot themselves because, you know, they're starting to feel a little bit of footsteps
06:36behind them in the wild card.
06:39I can't believe this year.
06:42It's not over.
06:43No, I didn't say it was.
06:46I just can't believe this year.
06:48I mean, I can.
06:49I totally can.
06:50Because this is the way stuff goes.
06:52And if you wouldn't have blown games, it wouldn't matter.
06:54Honestly, if they were seven and three right now, if they were seven and three and this
06:59story came and Grandy hit the breaking news sounder, a lot of us would say, you know what?
07:04If you're not a hundred percent, yeah, sit this game out.
07:07You're seven and three.
07:08You have a little wiggle room.
07:10I mean, yeah, you don't want to play around with conference games and you'd rather be
07:13the number one seed and blah, blah, blah.
07:15But if you're not a hundred percent, but you're seven and three with a one game cushion on
07:20Arizona and the tiebreaker because you wouldn't have lost to him, you'd be feeling different.
07:25But five and five.
07:26Yeah, this becomes a huge deal.
07:28Well, I just like, again, go back to, for instance, not even just training camp, go
07:36back to when the schedule comes out.
07:38And I know you do it tongue in cheek, but when we play this stupid win-loss game, like
07:43you have no clue what the hell is about to unfold.
07:48Look at this.
07:50Look at this.
07:51Look at this pile of coal in the stocking that we got this year.
07:56And again, I'm not calling the year over.
07:59Brandon Allen, because I just checked, is allowed to go win the game and I don't even
08:03know if he's playing.
08:06But if he plays and the Niners go out and lose by 10 to 14 points in this football game,
08:12I'm going to sit there.
08:13Like to me, that's, that's throw your hands up time.
08:16That's throw your hands up time where you're just like, my God, my God, like, did you,
08:23I don't know.
08:24Did you, what, what's the bad luck thing under a ladder or something with a mirror, broken
08:28mirror, black cat swallowing gum?
08:30What the hell?
08:32What the hell happened this year?
08:35Well, of all the years, you know, Tom Brady going, there's no such thing as the Super
08:39Bowl hangover.
08:40I agree with them, but good Lord, there's something going on.
08:44There's something going on.
08:46A lot of it is self-inflicted.
08:47A lot of it is not, but damn, how would you answer it?
08:53If I asked you this, this, this year, so far, what's gone right for the 49ers?
09:00What's gone right?
09:01What has gone well?
09:03Juwan Jennings has gone well, George Kittle has gone really well.
09:07Anybody want to weigh in on that?
09:08Freddie Warner has been great.
09:10He was first half.
09:13First half he was otherworldly.
09:14He was DPOI.
09:15Right.
09:16Last five games.
09:17He's still been really good.
09:18Not according to numbers.
09:19Well, depends on what numbers you want to look at.
09:22Numbers are numbers.
09:23How about just give me your eyes and your heart.
09:24How many plays?
09:25Numbers are numbers.
09:26Numbers are numbers.
09:27But give me, Fred, last five games, what, what stands out?
09:31Give me the play that you remember.
09:33Oh, there's not a marquee play, but that doesn't mean he's not playing pretty well.
09:37He's not.
09:38I mean, he's not playing as well.
09:39He did the first five games.
09:40I saw his stats.
09:41A linebacker especially is really reliant on the guys in front of him.
09:45No doubt.
09:46Because if they don't do anything, then the offensive linemen are going to get to Fred
09:50Warner and now he's neutralized.
09:52But Fred is also a great coverage linebacker.
09:55And I'm going to check this because I don't know for sure.
09:58But I saw this on a social media post that in the last 30 passes thrown against Fred
10:05Warner in coverage.
10:06Do you know how many of them were completed?
10:09Last 30 passes, probably 20, 30, all 30, 30 for 30.
10:15All of them.
10:16Man, ESPN.
10:17Like a documentary.
10:18Exactly.
10:19So I'm sorry.
10:21Like I don't know that Fred Warner is playing well the last five games.
10:25It's fine.
10:26I don't want to stand out as being a liability, but I don't know if he's playing well and
10:30it lines up right with when he got hurt.
10:32Like I like there's also that I don't think he's playing at a hundred percent.
10:38I don't think he's himself.
10:40And that's what I'm getting at.
10:41You know, sure.
10:42We can name like if that's what you can name, what's gone right for the 49ers this year.
10:46And the best thing we can do is come up with a couple of names, Juwan Jennings.
10:51But like you told me yesterday that their offense has been great.
10:54All those numbers about.
10:56I did not.
10:57Points per drive.
10:58I did not say that.
10:59Yards per drive.
11:00I did not use the word great.
11:01Not once.
11:02Not ever.
11:03Well the numbers would indicate that they are great because they're and you mentioned
11:04they're top 10 in like these all 10 of these things.
11:07They're still effective except for apparently when it really, really matters.
11:11When it comes to scoring points.
11:13When it comes to the red zone or the fourth quarter or the third down or the whatever.
11:18Like again.
11:19They're good on third down on offense.
11:20I know, but they're also really good at shooting themselves in the foot.
11:22They commit a lot of key penalties in key moments.
11:25They do that.
11:27They have a lot of come from ahead losses.
11:30I don't think they've got any come from behind wins.
11:33So no, they haven't had to.
11:34So all of their, you know, the only thing that I would give them in terms of sort of
11:38a close victory, I guess, is Tampa Bay.
11:41But at the same time, that was totally self-inflicted that that game was close.
11:45That was a fourth quarter comeback.
11:47Sure.
11:48You're right.
11:49Tampa scored 30 seconds into the quarter to take the lead.
11:51They did.
11:52The liners came back and then they coughed that up and Jake Moody and all the misses
11:55and the fight on the side.
11:57I remember all of it, but I'm not going to walk out of that and giving them applause
12:01for their fourth quarter.
12:03Like yes, it is still an effective team in terms of their stats, their movement, their
12:10effectiveness up and down the field for good portions of the game.
12:16But that hasn't really netted you anything.
12:20Give me the game they won where you're like, whoo, got away with one there, probably shouldn't
12:26have won that.
12:27The other team outplayed you.
12:29No.
12:30If the other team outplays you, you lose.
12:32And if you outplay the other team, you still might lose.
12:34Well, you should win, but you haven't.
12:36No.
12:37Like this year, wouldn't you, would you agree with this?
12:39The Niners have been outplayed twice and they're 0-2.
12:42Yeah, clearly.
12:43Okay.
12:44Minnesota and Kansas City.
12:45In the other eight games, they outplayed the opponent in their five and three.
12:48Yeah.
12:50And that's football.
12:51Sometimes.
12:52And that's what Kyle talked about.
12:53It comes down to the final four possessions of a game, and if it's close, you've got to
12:57be better than the other team.
12:58And they haven't been better than the other team.
13:00And that to me is, that goes beyond like bad luck or snake bit or the rest of it.
13:07You just haven't closed.
13:08And you've had your guys not close, you've had your reserves not close, you've had coaches
13:14make mistakes, you've had special teams errors.
13:17You as a team, as an organization, you have not closed out games.
13:20So yeah, we can look at the fact that maybe they're a little snake bit and you didn't
13:25have RB1 for the majority of the year and you lost your top wide receiver in game number
13:30five or game number six and all that's football.
13:33And you can look at most every other team and they're suffering the same kind of deal.
13:37A couple things I'd like to throw out there that have been reported by those who were
13:41on the scene today, as the 49er press conference with Brock Purdy got canceled, Tim Kawakami
13:48wrote, bit of an odd mood in the Niners locker room today, which is understandable based
13:54on all of the questions.
13:57So there was that.
13:59And then, Mike Silver, when a 49er player has an injury to his arm or leg, the organization
14:10often behaves as though his larynx is also impaired.
14:15That's kind of normal, though.
14:17Teams don't have injured people speak.
14:20That's totally normal.
14:21And I believe they've moved the quarterback availability to tomorrow.
14:25So from what I read from some of the tweets and some of the people who are down there,
14:29that the quarterback who's going to start against Green Bay will speak tomorrow.
14:33So maybe we find out at that point who it's going to be.
14:37And then also they said, you know, like Brock Purdy didn't just skip the press conference,
14:41but he was not in the locker room at all during the period where the media was present.
14:45Right.
14:46He's in the training room, which you don't have access to.
14:48And I do believe that when he walked off the field and he went and saw the trainers and
14:53they probably looked at it and realized whatever they already know about the injury and they
14:58went right to trying to treat it, whether it's, you know, stim, giving him the stimulator
15:03to try to work on the muscle or if it's ice.
15:05If there's inflammation, who knows what it is?
15:09Shoulder soreness is one that is so vague.
15:12So as to make it so you can't even really speculate, right?
15:16It could be a number of different things.
15:19Shoulder soreness.
15:21Is it just arm fatigue?
15:22Does he need to skip a start like a baseball pitcher?
15:25I do not think that, you know, walking out of the middle of practice because of fatigue.
15:30I wouldn't think.
15:31I wouldn't think so either.
15:33This feels more like an actual injury to me.
15:35Well, and if it is an actual injury and then we can go back to the game film against Seattle
15:39and we can start to think about when it might have happened and you actually said it on
15:43Monday I think, Monday or Tuesday, and it might have been the throw where his arm got
15:47hit, his hand got hit, and you know, that might have jarred his shoulder and not to
15:52make excuses or to give reasons, because I know those are two touch points, but that
15:57throw to Debo on the last drive where they looked to kill the clock, that might have
16:02been shoulder related.
16:04If the shoulder was already hurt and he wasn't able to really go through that throw and rip
16:09it, because that throw looks a little bit like a short arm and he kind of half-armed
16:14it and that ball just sailed out of his hand.
16:16Also could have aggravated something that was already going on because he has not been
16:20letting it rip.
16:21He's not been letting it rip.
16:22He's not been throwing it downfield.
