00:22Venezuelans celebrate Wednesday the 104th anniversary of the Bolivarian military aviation
00:27and the 32nd of the rebellion against Carlos Andrés Pérez's government on November
00:3227, 1992.

00:58Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra García from Telesur Studios in
01:03Havana, Cuba.
01:04We begin with the news, stay with us.
01:23The Lebanese army announced that its forces have begun deploying to the southern Litany
01:27region in coordination with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon.
01:31According to local media, military troops and all security forces moved from various
01:36areas of the country to settle in the southern sector of the Litany region, located 70 kilometers
01:42south of Beirut.
01:44This move is part of the Lebanese government's commitment to implement the United Nations
01:48Security Council Resolution 1701, which calls for a full cessation of hostilities between
01:54Israel and Hezbollah and stipulates the deployment of the army in the south.
02:00On the other hand, the Lebanese army command urged displaced people returning to villages
02:04and towns bordered in Israel to obey the directives of the military units and not to approach
02:10areas where Israeli forces are present.
02:18Lebanon's acting Prime Minister Najib Mekati said that work will begin on restoring security
02:24in areas south of the country.
02:27Today we begin the journey to rebuild what was destroyed and we place our hope in the
02:31army to restore security in the south.
02:34We underline the government's commitment to implement UN Security Council Resolution
02:381701 in all its provisions.
02:43Lebanon's acting Premier called on Israel to fulfill its part of the agreement in the
02:47occupied territories.
02:51We call for the Israeli enemy's commitment to the ceasefire decision and withdrawal from
02:55the territories it occupied and we are fully confident that better days will come for Lebanon,
03:00provided we put aside our differences.
03:04In this regard, the Lebanese parliament called for the unity of all political forces in the
03:08country following the entry into force of the ceasefire from early Wednesday morning.
03:13The top government and parliament authorities urged the whole country to remain united and
03:19demanded the respect of the United Nations Resolution 1701 based on a ceasefire between
03:25Israel and Hezbollah.
03:27Prime Minister Najib Mekati affirmed that he is facing a historic national situation
03:32and it is a collective responsibility to maintain unity to warranty the security of citizens.
03:37The Prime Minister also thanked the Speaker of the Parliament, Nabib Berri, for his cooperation
03:42with the defence of the country against Israeli hostilities after months of bombing.
03:52Russia welcomed Wednesday the ceasefire agreement between the Israeli occupation and the Lebanese
03:57resistance movement Hezbollah and hoped it would be effective.
04:01Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova expressed that her country looks
04:06favourably on any agreement, potential or concluded, that would stop the spiral of
04:12violence and the bloodshed in Lebanon.
04:14However, she warned that the deal had to be actually effective.
04:18On Tuesday, US President Joe Biden announced that Israel and Lebanon had accepted a proposal
04:23to end the war, describing the development as good news.
04:27The ceasefire officially took effect on Wednesday at 4 a.m. local time.
04:37On Wednesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also welcomed the ceasefire agreement
04:41between Israel and the Lebanese resistance group Hezbollah.
04:48We are pleased with the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon that came into
04:52effect this morning.
05:00We expect all parties, especially Israel, to fulfil their responsibilities to the letter
05:04toward maintaining peace on the ground.
05:11I say that, as Turkey, we are ready to contribute any efforts to stopping the massacre in Gaza
05:16and establishing a permanent ceasefire.

06:02Welcome back.
06:10South Korea's capital, Seoul, is experiencing the worst snowfall in history and authorities
06:15are taking the necessary measures to prevent damage.
06:18On Wednesday, South Korean President Jung Suk-yoo urged relevant ministries to mobilize
06:23all available staff and equipment for snow removal to mitigate the risk of accidents
06:28and traffic congestion, and called for measures to improve access to public transportation.
06:34On the other hand, authorities warned that the heavy snowfall is expected to last until
06:38Thursday morning, so they are trying to quickly provide road and weather information to minimize
06:44the possible damage caused by the snow.
06:47The storm, which covered the Seoul metropolitan area and Gangwon province, is the largest
06:52ever recorded in November since modern weather observations began in 1907.
07:03In Sri Lanka, President Anurag Kamudha D. Sanayake issued an order for the protection
07:09of people in areas affected by the storm that threatens the South Asian island.
07:13According to the Meteorological Department, a deep depression is expected to approach
07:18the east coast of Sri Lanka in a few hours intensified by a cyclonic storm.
07:23The President urged rescue officials to go to the affected areas and provide immediate
07:28relief services to the inhabitants of vulnerable localities, as well as to ensure shelter in
07:33safe locations.
07:34In this regard, he ordered state jurisdictions to allocate sufficient funds for relief efforts,
07:40especially to the northern and eastern provinces, as they are at high risk due to the depression
07:46that is on the verge of becoming a cyclone.
07:55Around 2,000 people took to the streets of Romania's capital, Bucharest, on Wednesday
08:00to protest the non-expected lead of far-right presidential candidate Kalin Gheorghegu.
08:07The demonstrators gathered at the Victory Square in the nation's capital, bearing
08:11European Union flags and banners reading,
08:14The day we gave in is the day we die.
08:16And better dead than fascist.
08:19With more than 99% of votes counted, ultra-nationalist Gheorghegu had secured 23% of the votes, followed
08:26by centre-right candidate Elena Lascani on the Save Romania Union and Social Democrat
08:32Prime Minister Marcel Siolacu, who was the pre-election favourite.
08:37The latest count suggests Lascani is narrowly ahead of Siolacu by around 2,000 votes and
08:44is likely to face Gheorghegu in a final run-off for the presidency on December 8th.
08:56Venezuela hosts the International Antifascist Meeting for a New World.
09:00This two-day event is held on November 27th and 28th at the Bolívar Park Convention Centre
09:06in Miranda State.
09:08The meeting will be attended by delegates from different countries who will discuss
09:12strategies to give answers and assign tasks to prevent fascism from imposing itself in
09:18the sovereign peoples of the world.
09:20The meeting will also consolidate the ideas that emerged during the Antifascist Youth
09:24Congress that took place on November 22nd and 23rd in the capital city of Caracas.
09:31These events consolidate Venezuela as the capital of the struggle against fascism and
09:35as a space to unify people's voices that were and are victims of fascism.
09:50Fascism was almost defeated.
09:54Fascism muted in 1945.
09:57It blended with the oligarchies and the bourgeoisie of the time and slept for a while to re-emerge
10:04today with greater force to continue its domination over the peoples.
10:09Because they are the same today.
10:19If we look at who are promoting fascism today, who are supporting fascism today, they're
10:26the same who encouraged it 80, 85 years ago.
10:31They are just the same.
10:33That hasn't changed a bit.
10:40The top Venezuelan diplomat stated that fascism was but a tool of capitalism to keep exploiting
10:46the working class.
10:54Fascism is nothing more than a by-product, a tool used by imperialism and capitalism
11:01to keep dominating and exploiting the working class.
11:06So the anti-fascist struggle is also an anti-capitalist struggle.
11:11A struggle for the construction of socialism, which is the only way we know, as Comrade
11:19Rander said, to eliminate both capitalism and its most violent expressions, its most
11:27horrifying expression, which is fascism.
11:39Venezuelans celebrate Wednesday the 104th anniversary of the Bolivarian military aviation
11:44and the 32nd of the rebellion against Carlos Andrés Pérez's government on November 27th,
11:501992.
11:51In the context of the celebration, the Defense Minister, Vladimir Padrino López, congratulated
11:56the officers of the Bolivarian military aviation and highlighted their anti-imperialist spirit
12:02and courage during the popular rebellion that changed the course of the country's history
12:0632 years ago.
12:08On the other hand, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro thanked the Air Force for its work
12:13in protecting Venezuelan airspace and recalled that 32 years ago the Air Forces were re-founded
12:20as a patriotic, revolutionary and deeply Bolivarian body.
12:30The Venezuelan government issued a communiqué on Wednesday strongly rejecting the recent
12:35imposition by the outgoing U.S. government of new unilateral coercive measures against
12:40the Venezuelan people.
12:41The statement stresses that the measures announced today are a desperate act of a decadent and
12:47erratic government which seeks to hide its resounding electoral failure and the grave
12:52social crisis in which it leaves the country with a new aggression against the noble Venezuelan
12:58people.
12:59It adds that these measures do not promote democracy in Venezuela but rather seek to
13:03give a last breath to a scattered and discredited fascist group that has no roots in the Venezuelan
13:10population in order to prolong its failed policy of regime change.
13:15It also states, four months after the great popular victory, the Bolivarian government
13:20reaffirms its unwavering commitment to continue consolidating its democratic, participatory
13:26and protagonist model and strengthening its economy in the midst of constant, unfurnished
13:31aggressions.
13:32The communiqué closes by stressing that the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, faithful
13:37to its historical tradition of struggle and sovereignty, reiterates before any attack
13:42that the people of Bolivar and Chavez will never be defeated and that its junfied path
13:48towards the consolidation of peace and political, economic and social stability is irreversible.

14:41The Cuban people, together with President Miguel Díaz-Canel, paid tribute on Wednesday
14:45to the eighth medical students murdered by the Spanish colonialism 153 years ago.
14:52Students marched from the steps of the University of Havana to the location of the monument
14:57that commemorates the event.
14:59The young men were executed on November 27, 1871, after being unjustly accused of scratching
15:06the grave of a Spanish journalist.
15:08The incident occurred in the midst of a tense historical context, when university students
15:13were persecuted in an effort to prevent them from participating of the anti-colonialist
15:18fight.
15:19The crime had a profound impact on society and is remembered every year as the students
15:24march to reinforce the Cuban Revolution promises of freedom and sovereignty.
15:35I believe that, above all, this type of events, this type of gatherings, have an essential
15:40explanation and it is the support that the Cuban youth gives to the revolution and its
15:45highest leaders nowadays, and the best way to show our support is by celebrating a date
15:51as important as today, where it is demonstrated once again the injustices committed in that
15:56colonial era, and many of them have been suffered by the Cuban people.
16:01But even so, we remain united and with a clear mind in what we must defend, which is none
16:07other than the socialist revolution and, of course, defend the ideas of our undeniable
16:12leader Fidel Castro.
16:16The Mexican government warned Wednesday that the U.S. economy will be negatively impacted
16:21if President-elect Donald Trump follows through on his threat to implement his tariff policy.
16:26This way, the Mexican Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, alerted that close to 400,000
16:33jobs would be lost in the United States if tariffs against the country are increased,
16:37since the measure would significantly affect the three largest U.S. automotive companies
16:42in Mexico.
16:43Furthermore, Ebrard explained the action would be equivalent to doubling the tax on profits
16:49of U.S. companies, so consumers would have to pay for more expensive products, thus reducing
16:55the nation's economic growth.
16:57In this regard, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stressed her government is working
17:01on an immediate response to the measure.
17:10What we are doing with the letter, with the work that Marcelo, the Secretary of Economy,
17:15is doing, and that everyone is helping us with, is to put on the table the impacts that
17:21tariffs would have for the three countries that are trading partners.
17:26And as Marcelo explained, it would not only have an impact on Mexico, but also on the
17:31United States, it would have a great impact.
17:35Not only for the companies, but also for the consumer, for those who purchase a vehicle,
17:41which will have an immediate price increase.
17:44So we are putting on the table the impacts that would have.
17:51Also in this context, the Mexican Head of State Claudia Sheinbaum asserted she will
17:55always defend Mexican migrants, assuring they contribute greatly to the United States economy.
18:01We are now talking about the issue of tariffs, but we are also going to talk in this morning
18:12conference and in other spaces about what it would mean if there were deportations.
18:18How do Mexicans contribute to the United States?
18:31From the farmers who work the land, who are outstanding, to the scientists who work somewhere
18:37else, because all of our fellow citizens on the other side of the border contribute to
18:43the economy of the United States.
18:56And we are going to defend and vindicate all of them, because we Mexicans are outstanding
19:01workers, as I said.
19:04So, this idea that they are criminals is false.
19:07They are hard-working men, women like no other.
19:15Authorities from dozens of countries seized 225 metric tons of cocaine in a six-week mega-operation
19:22where they unearthed a new Pacific trafficking route from South America to Australia.
19:28The massive bust involved the security agencies of the United States, Brazil, Spain, the Netherlands
19:34and several other nations, as well as multiple international organizations.
19:39According to Colombian Navy official Orlando Enriquez-Grisales, the seizure deprived drug
19:44truck cartels of more than $8.4 billion and confiscated a semi-submersible wood and fiberglass
19:53vessel on its way to Australia with five tons of Colombian cocaine.
19:58The operation also uncovered previously unknown alliances between cartels from Mexico, Brazil,
20:04Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, with groups from Europe and Oceania.
20:13In Ecuador, the energy crisis continues despite the government's efforts to meet the country's
20:18energy needs during the month of December.
20:21The Minister of Energy and Mines, Inés Manzano, assured that the measures are being taken
20:26to fulfill the commitments of boosting the energy sector and advancing in projects that
20:31will provide solutions to the energy crisis.
20:34In this regard, the government stated that a new cutback plan and the activation of hydroelectric
20:40power plants that remain shut down due to low water levels will make it possible to
20:45reduce blackouts to 10 hours.
20:47In spite of this announcement, experts warned that due to the increase in the country's
20:52energy consumption during December, the measures implemented by the government do not represent
20:57a solution to the energy crisis.
